I have Windows 7 Ultimate x64 and it's installed on a 120Gb SSD along with all my software. I only install software and drivers on this drive. I also have 2x1Tb drives for storing everything else.The combined total of all the visible folders in the main directory of my C drive is 77Gb (including the Windows folder) but my system tells me that I have only 1.6Gbof free space. This is causing a lot of problems with Photoshop, AE etc.
View 9 RepliesRecently my wife caught a virus on her computer (HP touchsmart windows 7 home premium). Your typical virus program that sends hundreds of pop up screens and says click this for full removal, blah blah blah. Anyways I used malwarebytes to see if the program could be removed, malwarebytes found 5 problems and I removed them. Afterward I noticed that there were no icons on the screen, I tried to bring up task manager and the computer rebooted. once the computer rebooted, there was a black screen with "no operating system found".
I tried the "repair your computer" option on the Windows 7 disk, but it was not able to repair the problem automatically, I also tried some manual command scan prompts that I found on the net. None of this has worked so far.
I figured that I would take the hdd out of her computer and dock it to another computer. The hard drive connected fine, but when I tried to open it there was nothing in there. I tried to make sure that all files were not hidden (they weren't). Funny thing is when I click on properties for the drive it shows that the drive is 2/3rds full but I can't see any files or information when I try to search the drive. I also just tried copying the hard drive to another harddrive and it was copying files but once I opened the new location, it was still empty (even thought the folder said in properties 84 gigs).
Is there something that I am missing, I would like to retrieve all of her documents, pictures etc. then I could reformat that drive and re-install windows if I can not get it to boot back up correctly.
I am using Windows 7. My "C" drive is 74.4 GB with very little room left.
Can I move some contents to my very empty "D" drive which has 1.36 TB.
It is telling me it is full and that back ups are failing! I have opened the D drive to see what files are in it but daren�t delete any as something terrible might happen!

Now I have a fresh install and i need to reinstall everything, but the problem isn't fixed. A while ago I accidentally tried to create a recovery in my recovery drive, which was bigger than the drive has allocated to it. So it maxed out the drive but couldn't complete the recovery file. So I tried deleting it, but the file kept re-appearing and re-filling my drive. So I tried copying the original recovery folder that came with the original install to my desktop and then re-formatting the drive. I haven't restarted the computer yet but as of now the drive is clear. Problem is, when I went to copy that folder back to the D drive, it is giving me an error when I try to open it. What files were in that folder, and how can I get them back?

I think at one time I tried to do this but did not know how. How do I do make a back up? Does it go on a disk ? Can you give me detail step by step on how to do? I don't even know what a back up is . It shows it is in the Lonova D and there is an error code 0x81000005. Is this why this is happening below?
I have windows 7 laptop and in the computer section it shows disk f disk c and lenova disk d and it is in red . It shows 7.81 mb free space of 28.9 gb. When I start my computer this comes up and says my space is full and shows the recycle bin but it is empty. Don't know much about computers and don't know what that disk is for . Can you explain before I erase something or do something I should not do.
My computer keeps popping up the message that my recovery drive is full. I have cleared all old backups, but it still has no room to create new backups. This is what I see when I open the recovery drive: s that what's supposed to be there? However, since then, I have removed 2 of the disks but I want to restore just one of the drives where the OS was installed (these are physical HDD= 3). Windows restore CD does not let me restore just one drive since the image is for all 3.Is there any way that I can force windows 7 to restore just one of the drives from the the full image with 3 drives? Unfortunately, the drives that I removed already have new data in another PC and pretty big (2T each). I don't to buy 2 drives just to install the OS image.

After a week, I suddenly noticed that it is now almost full, with only 1.46G free. When I open the drive, I only see recovery folder (16KB) and HPSF_rep text document (4KB). When I viewed protected program files in that drive, I saw a lot of files which I did not dare to modify or anything.What should I do? What will happen if D: becomes full?

Thought that this would delete the all of the old files. And, indeed, when I search for known file names, the search comes up empty.
However, the properties of the disk show the same amount of disk space used as before the install.
How can I remove these "ghost" files?
I've got a system with an 100 gig C Drive. There are very few programs/files on it, with a few exceptions such as Photoshop and some movie downloads. The drive should have enormous storage capacity. But, it lists that it is nearly completely full, and I have only a few dozen megabytes of storage space left!
The totality of programs on my computer totals at a little more than 8 gigs, and my download data is surely less. So then, where the hell is all this data coming from?, how can I view this mystery ~85 gigs of used storage, and what can I do to get rid of it / free up my C Drive?

I cleaned out the drive, did a firmware upgrade, changed the bios to ACHI. On a restart the drive reported correctly, initially & after I had transferred files onto it.While running a flight sim loaded onto the drive I got a message that the drive was full, but it is nowhere near full in fact.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI bought some software for MS Flight Simulator today which involved a very large download (over 10GBs) - I left it running whilst I went to work. I had 13.5 GBs left on my C drive (one of 2 partitions on a 128GB SSD) so figured all would be OK. When I returned 10 hours later, the download had failed, as, apparently, my C-drive was full. No idea why - I know there was enough room for the 10GB download. I could only guess that some temp files were downloaded at the same time (??).
The problem now however is that after deleting my browser (Firefox) cache, running the Disk Cleanup from Properties/Tools for C drive, I still have only 3GBs left. What happened to the 13GBs space I had this morning? What else do I need to clean up? Tried a System Restore - no change. I noticed that my ProgramData folder (hidden) is over 12GBs - most from the indexing service (Microsoft/Windows/Search), but that would have been there before today. (I've disabled the Windows Search service and moved that folder to an archive on another drive - I use a 3rd. party search engine, SearchMyFiles, for my PC, which is much faster than the Windows Search in any case).
Having removed the Search folder, if I show hidden files & folders, then select everything in the C Drive, sys files and all and then show 'Properties' - I still get some 4GBs less (28GBs) than is recorded in the Properties box when right-clicking the C-Drive root (32GBs) - where's the difference? I haven't run checkdisk yet, but before I do is there any obvious area I need to clean to regain the 10GBs I lost today?

I am trying to install a new copy of windows 7 on the hard drive. So I turned the pc on and go into the bios to set the DVD to boot first. So windows starts to install and the window is loading bar comes up. After the bar gets over half full, the screen drops and there is a line of h's on the left side of the screen and the installation freezes.
