Can't Share Printer On Local Network (0x00000012 Error)?
Sep 26, 2012And also complicated, 'cos not even my CISCO Network teacher has been able to give me a solution. I think I need some smart people here The thing is that I can't share my printer (connected by USB to my PC) with my laptop on another room, over the local network (in Windows 7 the name is Home Group).The printer model is not relevant because time ago I was able to do what I'm trying now.All my configurations are OK, at least the basic ones, because there's definetely something wrong with my PC, and here's why: if I take my laptop and put it next to the printer and connect it to it (by the same USB cable), I can access the printer with my PC, while it's been shared by the laptop.That proves that the internal network is fine. Also, all the configurations of the printer and also of the home group are literally same in both PCs, the big one and the laptop.
Both PCs run Windows 7. I have tried this, Connect to printer error - Microsoft Windows Vista Community Forums - Vistaheads, but it didn't work.The printer is also properly installed on my PC, it is not a driver problem or something like that.My AV is ESET ESSBE 4, but I don't think it's related, because I have tried deactivating its firewall, and also, on the laptop the AV is the same and theprinter did work.The services are also equal in both PC's now. I have even tried changing the network adaptor on my PC (from Ethernet to Wifi). Nothing.I recently had problems with the home group, but they are solved by now. I guess the source of the problems is the same, but I don't know where else to look.

Jul 19, 2009I'm going to use Windows 7 for my media center PC. Its going to be a machine without a monitor, I'll just stream from extenders and control it with logmein.com for now. I've currently got 3 XP machines, I like to be able to share the hard drives and map them on my other PCs to easily drop files onto them. But I've noticed since Vista, I just cant access those hard drives. I try to map it, and usually the PC shows up but nothing is there to select. At the most, my wife's Vista laptop has allowed me to access her Public folder but thats it. Its got the be one of the biggest annoyances with vista for me. We have no firewalls or virus software (i just hate it..id rather reformat than sacrifice PC performance), we use the windows built in firewall but thats it.

May 18, 2012I just turned on an almost new build pc to install windows 7. The entire pc is a new build except the hard drive that has a good copy of xp installed. I am trying to install a new copy of windows 7 on the hard drive. So I turned the pc on and go into the bios to set the DVD to boot first. So windows starts to install and the window is loading bar comes up. After the bar gets over half full, the screen drops and there is a line of h's on the left side of the screen and the installation freezes.

Thought that this would delete the all of the old files. And, indeed, when I search for known file names, the search comes up empty.
However, the properties of the disk show the same amount of disk space used as before the install.

Access Denied And Can't Take Ownership On Network Hard Drive
Oct 17, 2010I have a network hard drive mapped as Z: which I have become unable to do ANYTHING with. I can't delete anything, change anything, or add anything to the drive. I just get that blasted "Destination folder access denied. You need permission to perform this action."
The internet has provided me with a plethora of solutions to this issue, and none of them have worked. I'm logged on as administrator. User Account Control is totally off. Windows 7 will allow me to neither change permissions nor ownership of Z: or any folder or file within Z:.
I try giving Full Control to Everyone and it says "An error occurred while applying security information to (file name). Access is denied." I go into Advanced and click the Owner tab. It states the current owner of everything on Z: is "nobody," and if I try to change the owner, it says "Unable to set new owner on Z:. Access is denied."
I've tried going into command prompt and changing ownership using "takeown /f Z:" and I just get "Z: Access is denied."

Dec 10, 2012I also got Windows Server 2012 and 2008 from being a student for free. I have a few programs I would like to be able to run 24/7 and this seems like a good solution. The thing is I don't have a ton of space right now so I would like to only need 1 monitor/mouse/keyboard. I also would rather not use a KMV. At my school we are able to log onto our windows user account on any computer in the school by connecting through the local network. I would love to somehow set this up on my new server and regular PC but don't know what its called or how to research it. It seems very similar to a VPS or remote desktop but is not really either.

Lenovo = IP 192.168.1.1
Gateway = 192.168.1.2
Subnet mask 255.255.255.0
Dell = IP 192.168.1.2
Gateway = 192.168.1.1
Subnet mask 255.255.255.0
I goto change advanced sharing setting: (in both laptop)
- Turn on Network Discovery
- Turn on file and printer sharing
- Turn off password protection
But I can goto to another laptop isn't name computer alfa1. I goto run \alfa1. But don't access to it! Also I'm a administrator. My OS is Windows 7 home premium and another system Windows 7 Ultimate.
Windows 7 Can't Recognize With Local Network Interface Driver Software
Jun 5, 2011dell has informed me that my problem with my PC Is that windows 7 can't reconize the local network interface driver and told me that it's a software issue. I reinstalled the local network interface driver from the original cd that came with the PC and 2x's restored the computer to another time and then restored it back to the factory settings-with a Dell tech on the phone- nothing helped. This problem started one morning when lighting was felt/heard very close to our home and in fact burned out our verizon moden/box that Verizon replaced. From this point I wasn't able to go on line because there was no local network avail for verizon to connect to is how I understand it.
