System Crash Solution

Dec 25, 2012

I got a new laptop, an LG A550, with an i5 and Geforce 640M two weeks ago things were running ok until yesterday, i was playing online and suddenly the flash game crashed. i thought it was a flash player problem, so i updated it, and problems began: not only stills with the game not loading, but also i had most web pages not loading properly. taking lots of time to load and when it happens it shows an text only creepy version of it that happens to facebook, kongragate and other sites i guess uses flash, but google and gmail and this forum works ok then i tried to update the java, but that bug makes me not be able to download that update.

I got mad and tried system restore.
All attempts failed.
Finally i tried to restore the whole system to factory conditions, to get rid of ALL softwares i had installed in this two weeks. when completed, guess what... the issue CONTINUES!

what should i do now?
could be a problem with the files at the D partition?
a hardware problem?
or some rare hard time register bug?

System Image On System Restore Disk Not Reading After Crash?

Oct 2, 2012

Using preinstalled Win 7 Home Premium 64bit on an HP 6813w Pavilion. The original hard drive, a Hitachi HDS721010CLA332 1Tb crashed.1) System Recovery discs was made along with a System Recovery with System Image disc.2) A more current System Image was made on an external hard drive. The Hitachi was replaced with the same model. Checked bios to make sure it was installed correctly.Under System Recovery, Image Restore, Select a System Image Backup there is nothing in the table to choose from as far as a source (disc drive or external drive).A) System Recovery (3 discs) has the HP preinstall file folder on the 3rd disc but is not read by the System Recovery program.B) Under System Restore, Image Restore, Advanced, it asks for a network or driver to be installed. That opens up the directory of C: which is the external hard drive. Under WindowsImageBackup the computer name is identified followed by three entries:[CODE]It seems to me the Recovery and System Restore discs are not functional. Am not a technical person but I have taken this as far as I know how at this point.Printed out all the instructions from HP and Microsoft to follow step by step but the failed discs will not allow me to move forward.

System Crash Every Hour - Bewildering?

Aug 9, 2012

A few days ago (8/6/2012) my system started experiencing hourly system crashes to the tee. No matter what I'm doing (gaming, skyping, browsing, idle) the OS siezes. Things I've done so far:

1) Reviewed event logs

2) Updated Motherboard & Video card drivers

3) Disabled all scheduled tasks

4) Reviewed memory.dmp (outdated - no new dumps)

5) Configured performance monitoring

6) Ran CCleaner

7) Disabled/Uninstalled unused applications

8) Watched process explorer around problematic time for any noticeble spikes. (none were found)

9) I've also ensured my antivirus has the latest definitions and ran a full scan. To be safe I also scan'd using trenmicro which came up empty.

By reviewing the event logs I learned that the crashes have been occurring every hour. A small sample shown below:

System Crash Due To Windows 7 Critical Update

Aug 9, 2012

I had Windows 7 automatically downloading and installing critical updates. NO MORE!!! On 8/7/2012 a critical update was automatically downloaded and installed, unnoticed by me. When my computer would not turn on yesterday, 8/8/12 I tried many things, eventually restarting in Safe Mode - which did at least get me out of the black error screen and into windows. After poking around and testing things, I finally decided the only way to go was System Restore. There, I found there'd been an automatic critical update on 8/7/12. After restoring to before that point and turning off all automatic windows updates, my computer is now running fine.

System Crash - No Recovery Options Work

Sep 20, 2011

I am helping a friend with her Windows 7 laptop which crashed this evening. Startup repair has tried several times but still cannot fix the problem. System Restore fails as well despite trying numerous restore points. The log show that a root cause was found:

Boot critical file
C:CI.dll is corrupt

She has important personal data on this system so a fresh OS install is not an option yet.THis will be a good learning experience for me as I am looking into starting my own computer repair business. I'm not quite sure how to proceed with this. What should I do from here? Do I need to remove her HD and use a data recovery app on a separate system to recover her files, then reinstall Windows 7?

[CRASH] System ID 41 Kernel Power Errors

Sep 16, 2011

The kernel Power errors happen when ever I play a rather large game, such as Left 4 Dead, Left 4 Dead 2, Dead Rising 2, Assassins Creed Series, and Battlefield Bad Company 2. I've tried unplugging all my external devices such as, my headset, It worked for about two weeks, but then the errors started happening again. I had this computer custom built for gaming, It's not even a third full, And I want this to stop. I've updated all my drivers, Uninstalled tons of my games, just to get one working. The errors don't occur immediately once I run the game. It takes about 20 minutes more or less to stop. The computer doesn't freeze, or give any warning that it's about to happen. Just swiftly shuts off. I gave up for a while and tried to restore my system to factory settings. I can't restore it to factory settings, because I don't know where the disc is, and when I try to reset it by a restore point, the restore points are only for this month.

Restore Point Reached With Error After System Crash

Feb 5, 2011

i was unable to create a restore point(or should i say the restore point which were created were all shown up with this following error earlier, Error message was: "System Restore" did not complete successfully. Your computer's system files and settings were not changed."Details: An unspecified error occurred during System Restore (0xc0000022).Anyways,today as i was updating my display driver, while uninstalling the old display driver and installing the latest one,my system didn't accept the driver and thus my system went out of order(more preciously,as i uninstalled the whole catalyst control centre, every icon was appearing bigger and my display adapter was also deleted). now, coming back to the problem, when i tried to go back to a restre point ,i actaually managed to get all my previous settings back but after the completion of system restore that same message was again there which saidError message was: "System Restore" did not complete successfully. Your computer's system files and settings were not changed."Details: An unspecified error occurred during System Restore (0xc0000022).Now,i am a bit confused to what actually happened as all my settings were back and the system was there in its previous setings but then why i got that error message?

System Crash Upod Uninstall/disabling Of Sound Card

Feb 2, 2013

I have a C-media sound card (CMI8738/C3DX PCI audio device) that was running fine on XP. But since I changed to Windows 7, the sound became choppy and delayed when watching videos. I used the same driver that I used on XP, I tried updating but Windows 7 said its already up-to-date.

The worst part: I tried uninstalling the driver and my PC turned grayish white..one time I even saw pixels of my mouse on the corner screen, much like a distorted screen of some sort. Even disabling the device crashed the screen same as uninstalling it (like a BSoD). Now I can't change the driver.

Details:
MOBO: ECS P4M800
Processor: Pentium D
RAM: 1GB
Video card: internal, 32 MB shared

Also, my MOBO had internal sound cards running previously on realtek that got busted after an internal short circuit...damn. Its undetected at the device manager.

Boot / Crash Dump And Primary Partition - System Recovery Option Incompatible

Jul 22, 2012

I have a brand new Windows 7 64bit build with a clean install from an Upgrade CD and noticed in BIOS that my 1st boot device must be "Windows Boot Manager" or it asks for the CD. I only have 1 storage device (SSD) in the system and when I look under Disk Management in windows, it shows a 100MB "EFI System Partition" in addition to the primary partition (which is labeled "Boot, Crash Dump, and Primary Partition" - so it seems to have the boot files on it).

My components are:
Intel i5 3570K
Gigabyte Z77-DS3H mainboard
16GB Crucial Ballistix
Intel 520 180GB SSD
LG BD optical drive
GTX 560ti

As I only have the one non-optical storage device I did not set any partition parameters at install. I Attempted to do a Startup Repair with the windows disc to maybe try and delete the EFI partition and got the "... System Recovery Options is incompatible with the version you are trying to repair" error. Not sure what that is. If Disk Management shows a healthy partition with "Boot" listed as being contained, why can I not select the SSD as boot device #1? I can boot perfectly fine with the Windows Boot Manager listed as boot device #1 and the SSD as #2, however it's not ideal.

HP Photosmart Driver Solution

Nov 22, 2009

I had my P1100 colour inkjet printer for over 4 years; working perfectly under XP-Pro.

After installing Windows 7 (dual boot), the P1100 printer could not install.

HP's web site stated that no drivers would be available. As there were no Vista drivers either, I thought I had to scrap the printer.

Then I had a go of systematically installing printers from the list (Control panelSystemDevice Manager etc.)

Eventually I came to HP DeskJet 970Cse and its driver - BINGO!

The Testpage printed ok and so does everything else, including Duplex printing.

Moral - think outside the box, don't give up

I hope this may work for other printers, where no Vista or Windows 7 driver is available.

Random Freezes - Solution

Dec 1, 2009

This is basically rehashing my post from this thread: Windows 7 freezes

I've been experiencing the same freezes a lot of you guys have been experiencing lately. The machine would simply freeze, mouse wouldn't move, keyboard wouldn't respond, and the only way out is a hard reset.

Then they got worse, and started happening within a minute or two of startup, very consistently.

However, Safe Mode still runs fine, so I figured something that's disabled in Safe Mode is the cause of the freezes.

At least for my machine, this assumption turned out to be correct, and I was able to fix the problem.

Here's my solution:

Step 1: boot into safe mode (if your system didn't just crash, do this by pressing F8 at the windows boot menu).

Step 2: click Start, type msconfig, disable EVERYTHING in both the start up and services tabs. Now reboot into normal mode and see if you still experience freezes. If you do, then this solution will not help you. If, however, the freezes stop, then you've just isolated the cause of the freezes to one of the services of startup items you disabled.

Step 3: run msconfig again (you can do this in normal mode, no need to reboot again), and enable all the startup items first. Now reboot and see if your machine starts freezing again.

Step 3.1: Freezing: if the system does freeze, then the cause is one of those start up processes now enabled. To find out which, disable the second half of the list (if your machine freezes immediately after start up, do this in safe mode), and reboot to normal mode to see if it still freezes. If it does, then the cause is in the list of enabled processes, and if it doesn't, the cause is in the list of disabled processes, so enable/disable a half of the appropriate part of the list, and try again.

Repeat this until you isolate the process that's causing the freezing, and remove the software related to it.

Step 3.2: No Freezing: This means your freezing problem is caused by a system service. Leave the start up processes enabled and continue to step 4.

Step 4: in msconfig go to the services tab, and sort the services alphabetically. Disable the lower half of the list and reboot.

Step 5.1: Freezing after reboot: the freezing is caused by one of the enabled services, so again, sort the list alphabetically and disable half of the enabled services and reboot. Repeat this step, minimizing the list of potential causes until you isolate the faulty service.

Step 5.2: no freezing after reboot: freezing must be caused by one of the disabled processes, so disable the enabled ones, and repeat step 5.1 for the second half of the services list, until you isolate the faulty service.

Step 6: verification: to verify that the faulty service is indeed the cause of your freezes, disable all other services and start up items and reboot your machine with only the faulty service enabled. If it still freezes, congratulations, you've just found the root of your problem.

If it doesn't freeze, then the problem is more complex and probably involves dependencies and concurrent services, and you'd have to use more complex methods to find out what exactly is causing this.

Step 7: fixing the faulty service: This is tricky, as these are all system files.

the first thing you have to do is figure out what files the service runs off of. In my case the service in question was Workstation and it was wksvcc.dll that needed replacing to fix my machine's freezing problem. I stumbled upon the service's .dll file name after many hours searching for a way to fix a corrupt service, so I can't offer any insights into how you might find the correct .dll file for your faulty service.

Now, to fix the service:

After you've tracked down the correct .dll file, locate it in windows explorer, change it's permissions so you can modify the file (do this by opening the properties of the file, and in the security tab's advanced page, first change ownership to yourself, then give yourself permissions to modify the file). Once this is done, you can rename the file to <filename>_CORRUPT.dll. Now, as far as your system is concerned, the file is MIA and the only fix is replacing it with a copy from the repository.

Click Start, type in cmd and right click the icon to run it as Administrator.

In the command prompt window, type sfc /scannow

This will run a system file scan and discover the missing/corrupted file, and then repair it by getting a clean copy from the repository.

Once this is done, go back to Start, type and run services, then find the faulty process and enable it. Restart your machine and see if this fixed your problem.

Hopefully someone can chirp in and include a link to to some comprehensive listing of Windows services and their respective .dll files, as I haven't been able to find such a list so far.

Edit: link to a list of services and their descriptions, thanks to kitesurfa: http://www.blackviper.com/Windows_7/service411.htm#A:

Once you go into a service's page, scroll down to see the .dll files listed in the registry settings (see attached picture for example).

The above solution worked for me, however, since it involves modifying system permissions and files, do this at your own risk.

Windows 7 Explorer.exe Crash/restart/crash?

Jan 21, 2013

I read through a few threads with similar topics but the issues were either not quite the same and/or resolved comparatively easily. I am trying to repair a 1.5 year-old HP Pavilion running Windows 7 Home Premium 64. This machine is used as the main office computer in a small doctor's office. In spite of my warnings, anti-virus software was not installed until it was too lateThere was a major issue about seven months ago that required another company to repairThe problem is explorer.exe will not run. Double-clicking a shortcut on the desktop, clicking the text name of a program from the Start menu, and even in the cmd results in the same response, a dialog box pops up stating windows explorer has stopped working.

windows is checking for a solution to the problem. followed by another box stating windows explorer is restarting. But the requested application never starts. I have run the Ultimate Boot CD 4 Win, replaced the hard drive and cloned all data, run numerous registry scans, malware scans and antivirus scans. Initially removing over 1500 virus/malware hits and over 1400 registry errors. But the main problem persists, explorer.exe won't open programs.

Windows 7 Not Genuine Quick Solution To Try

Mkv Playback Ez Solution X32 X64-NO CODEC PACKS

Aug 7, 2009

I have seen alot about no support for mkv in wmp and wmc on these and other Windows 7 threads/boards. I've seen solutions ranging from adding a complicated divx7(not a free codec) tool with necessary support, adding various codec packs, some crazy scripts and regedits with powershell, cmd etc. that can be disastrous with the slightest mistake.

First, if you want to find out the hard way that codec packs can be dangerous, install one. Some are probably better than others, maybe some even won't screw up your system?

But a prominent codec pack-(touted on these boards)- I tried-back when I was a newbie at multi-media playback-caused major system problems. At first it worked great! Then.......Wierd random icons started showing up for un-related programs, web pages, etc., various formats stopped working, program defaults changed by themselves-had to do a clean disk wipe and os install to correct it! Most claim to be minimalist but the point is, they can essentially take-over a system and cause major instability, freezes, etc. Maybe they work for you? Not judging, just suggesting.
