I tried doing a lot of searching on here and google, but didn't find a resolution. I have a Machine with Windows 7 Alienware x86 hosting a shared network printer. I am able to find and print on a machine with Windows 7 Home Premium x64 with no problem. Both machines belong to the x64 Homegroup. I have a netbook with Windows 7 Starter and find the printer on the network and even try adding it with \hostnameprintername. I find it no problem and drivers install on the netbook, but when I try to print it does nothing. Works great on the other two machines. I also joined the homegroup to see if that will work, but it didn't.

The PC is also running a weather station via Cumulus Software to weatherunderground. The PC has to run 24/7 (advice from tom's hardware has helped with the 24/7 set up
However a few times the station has gone off line, up on inspection I have found that the PC clock - as displayed bottom right - has advanced its self by 12 hours. The last time this happened was Friday 28 Sept. The weather base station showed 16:45, the Cumulus display on the desk top showed 16:45 but the PC clock showed 29 Sept 04:45, 12 hours in advance. Similar time slips both forwards and backwards have happened. Each time I have reset the PC clock on 'Adjust Time/Date and all clocks are at the right time allowing data to be transmitted / received and all seems to be OK for anything up to a week.

The three in use every day are new win7pro x64 machines. Our server is xp pro (32bit) with a shared drive as our "server" drive. We access this for all our job related materials, etc. There is no network setup, just shared folders among our workgroup. we just got the new win7pro machines setup and are using Windows Backup function to create system images to the "server" computer in a shared folder. We've got the images created on 2 computers, and can see the .vhd files and associated folder structure. When testing to see if we could restore from these images, we got the error "Cannot locate backup sets on machine, etc."I moved the backup folder to the root of the drive, and made sure it was WindowsImageBackup or whatever the default is, but still could not find it.

I usually have to boot my machine twice. I boot the first time, log into my (domain) account, and once windows loads, I get a BSOD. After that, if I reboot, the system works all day.
This happens if I'm bringing it out of sleep or hibernate too, but it has to be inactive for a few hours for it to give a BSOD.

currently i own a dell studio xps, running ms windows 7 home premium 64-bit sp1.i have the following playback devices, as listed by windows:the problem is that the sound only works with one application at a time, meaning, if i open itunes first, and then skype, only the sound on itunes will work. if i close both, then open skype first, and itunes second, then only the sound from skype can be heard. this has happened with every program so far, such as google chrome (watching a video on Internet), video games, and vlc media player. i've had this problem for as long as i can remember, as this computer is fairly new.i'm willing to divulge any more information required.

I use the word switched instead of upgraded because I formatted my old drive instead of installing over Vista.I have been using two screens for forever now, both LG Flatron L1750HQ, both are digital and have served me well. My graphics card is an NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS, which has two digital outputs. I have the latest NVIDIA drivers, and I have the drivers for my screens (though they are old, June 2007, and I can't find any newer ones... which might imply an EDID problem? Dunno). I have also run every Windows 7 update known to man.To describe the problem: only one of them ever works at a time (which implies the screens themselves are okay), and both outputs work as well. To top that, Win 7 does recognize I have a dual display, but one is always in digital power-saving mode (no signal, I guess).When my computer boots up, the left screen shows the boot process, while the right one has no signal. When Win 7 boots, its the other way around.
In the NVIDIA -and- the Win 7 control panels both screens are visible, shown side by side, and set up properly with and without the screens' driver, but that does nothing to solve the problem.I've also examined my BIOS, but I doubt its anything to do with that since I haven't touched my BIOS in ages and it worked just fine on Vista. I'd wager that if I go ahead and install Kubuntu on this machine, I'll get my dual screens back, but I don't want Kubuntu.
I have windows seven RC1(32 bit) and I get a BSOD when my computer works hard for longer periods of time. I do not have this problem with my vista partition. For example if I do a 30 mins skype call or play a game for 20 mins I get the BSOD. However I can surf the internet and listen to podcast for hours and have no problems.

I spilt some water on my laptop a few days ago but fortunately it's completely dried out and working perfectly.... apart from this minor (but important) issue.
Problem: the system time does not stay correct. Even after manually updating the BIOS time and also even after manually syncing it with the various servers available under the time options.
Fix: set the internet time sync interval to every minute rather than its default setting? How do I do this?
P.S. This couldn't be a CMOS battery issue surely because even when the system is on and plugged in the system time still deviates from correct. (I assume the CMOS battery is only used when the system is powered off.) If I need it replaced, how does that sit with my Dell hardware warranty?
Each day, the first time I opening 'any' existing Microsoft Works Word Processor file that I have, such as ones I have for phone numbers, addresses, etc., I have to wait about 45 seconds for the file to open. And while I'm waiting, I can't do anything else on the computer. Any of those files I open the rest of the day, open immediately. It's just the first time each day.

Additional details: Around 160 GB of data. Data is uncompressed.
I have a Windows 7 Professional system that I went to take an image of using EASEUS TODO Workstation. When I went to do the backup, I noticed that there was no 100 MB System Reserved Partition. I made the image anyway.When I tested the image on a new machine, it prompted me to repair or start windows normally. Unable to start normally, so I did the repair. After about 10 min, the system came back and said it cannot repair.Outside of start a system from scratch, is there a way I can get the system reserved partition out of the Windows 7 partition?

I am wondering what is the best way to get them to wake up so that my backup program can run a scheduled backup job at like 2am?
I have tried just setting the scheduled backup in my program (Cobain Backup), but it doesn't seem to work very often, and I think that the machines are just not waking up. Is there some sort of scheduled task that I can create or something in XP or 7 to make it wake up at a certain time automatically?
For the past week the System idle process has been hogging all my CPU. Have done the usual investigative routes, scans, safe mode scans etc. I have used my residential products: Malwarebytes, Superanti-spyware, Eset SS5 and have tried a couple of others being Hitman pro and Kaspersky on-line virus scanner. Since the problem started I have been trying to think of any odd installations but nothing springs to mind, to that end I have already put two different OS's on the machine and the problem still exists even in safe mode! View 7 Replies View RelatedSo I've got an ASRock motherboard that's about 3 months old and I'm running Windows 7. Earlier today, I started having a strange problem with the system time changing randomly. At first, I thought it was just a daylight savings time issue, so I disabled the automatic updating for daylight savings time. The problem still persisted. I also tried disabling the automatic time synchronization, but that didn't fix the problem either. I thought it may have been the CMOS battery, so I rebooted and checked the time in the bios. The bios shows the correct time/date. The only incorrect time and date is shown in Windows itself. After this, I tried updating the synchronization task to run every 5 minutes, but the clock is still changing to a different time. The time change is random, from around an hour to up to six or seven hours. The date doesn't change, just the time. My timezone is correct, and as the problem persisted without having automatic adjust for daylight savings time enabled, I can't see that it's the problem.Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this? About the only idea I have left is some sort of virus. But AVG and Malwarebytes haven't picked anything up. Is there some kind of software that gets auto-installed that can screw with system time?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI am going to upgrade to Windows 8 Consumer Preview, so before doing so I backed up Windows 7 as a system image to my external hard drive. In doing so, I forgot that a system image includes all the files on the drive, which means it backed up about 700 GB worth of data. That's OK except I already had those files backed up individually, so now my external drive is basically out of space for future use. Instead, what I'd like to do, is do a system image of factory state without having to lose the files already on my drive. Is that possible? I could always go back to factory condition, and save the system image, but then I'd have to re-add all my programs and files after I get the Windows 8 upgrade completed. I'd rather not have to do that unless it's an emergency.
