I want to stream content over a LAN. One computer will act as the "content host" and one or more computers will act as "content clients". Is there any software that can stream content from one computer to several computers.
My network contains DHCP addresses, and it is comprised of Windows 7 x64 Professional Computers.
Ideally the "content streaming" solution will be compatible with Multiple Operating Systems.
I am a recent resident at an assisted living facility. Because I have some experience with PC's I was asked to maintain the facility resident computer, a PC with Windows 7.The computer is in the back of the media room, a 50 inch TV is in the front of the room. Also in the front is a modem and router. The computer is wireless and gets on the internet wirelessly through the router. The room is about 45 feet long.I would like to play video from the computer to the TV.

View 4 Replies View RelatedMy computer is getting really hot lately (CPU can get to 96C/~200F), and I have some weird bugs as well. I have an HP pavilion laptop running Windows 7 Ultimate.
Some of the bugs are when SOMETIME I'm trying to delete a big file, it says "discovering..." but doesn't delete anything. When I open certain folders the green bar at the top just keeps on loading and loading even after all the previews of pictures/videos are done. Sometimes it doesn't even show the previews of some pictures/videos (and it did show without a problem in the past). It also happened to me that I opened the control panel, and I couldn't see anything (usually when the temp are really high and the fan is on max). After restarting my computer everything turned back to normal, but then it happens again...
For an antivirus I'm using Microsoft Security Essentials and for anti-malware I'm using Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware.
i've been having an issue with flash content for the past three weeks now, i've tried just about anything and i'm becoming desperate. i've conducted a wide variety of tests on the various components in my build, but i'm still no closer to discovering what the issue may be. the issue occasionally, when watching flash content, my computer will freeze and i'll lose all control over the mouse and keyboard. it sounds like the computer is about to blue screen (looping audio), but it doesn't - it just hangs on the same image for anywhere between 15 seconds to 2 minutes. sometimes, i need to hard restart my system in order to use the computer again. this will typically happen when flash content is played full-screen on websites like Internet and twitch.tv, and on resolutions higher than 480p - but i have experienced (less frequent) crashes when the content is not full-screen, at 360p. it just seems to be video that causes the problem, as i've yet to have any issues with websites that present an alternative form of flash content. hardware: processor: intel i5-2500k @ 3.30ghzgraphics card: nvidia geforce gtx 570 1280mbmotherboard: asrock z68 extreme4 gen3memory: kingston hyperx genesis grey 8gbpsu: cooler master silent pro modular 700w nothing is overclocked, and i'm running windows 7 x64 home premium sp1. i've uploaded my dxdiag here. what have i done to try and diagnose the problem? -enabled and disabled hardware acceleration.-updated to latest graphics card drivers, also rolled back to previous versions i've known to work previously with my system.-monitored system usage/temperatures when watching hd flash content. nothing out of the ordinary.-ran memtestx86 for 24 hours. no errors.-ran prime95 blend for 24 hours. no errors.-furmark for 2 hours to test graphics card stability, things seemed fine. have been playing far cry 3 continuously on high settings for the past few days with zero instability.-i've tried downloading older versions of flash, and using different browsers. no change. when did it start? the issue started when i updated the bios for my motherboard (asrock z68 extreme4 gen3) from v1.20 to v2.20, since then i've updated to v2.30. i would roll back to v1.20, but it's simply not possible according to various sources i've read online. thoughts i'm pretty sure my hardware is fine. all the tests i've done indicate my system is stable when i'm not running flash content. i've been playing games, writing documents for university and browsing the internet with absolutely no issues (as long as i don't watch any flash content). i suspect there are compatibility issues with flash, my hardware setup and the latest bios updates from asrock, but maybe i've missed something.

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy Windows 7 Ultimate x64 machine recently stopped being able to communicate with any other machines on the network.It can ping them by name, but can't browse to any shared folders or use any shared services.I do have one networked printer, but access was via http so it seems to work. The big problem is that I have some Windows XP machines that have shared folders and shared printers and I can not access them.Here are the details of my setup.
- Linksys WRT54G router drives the internet (updated to latest firmware)
- Windows 7 Ultimate x64 machine plugged directly into WRT54G ethernet port
- Epson Workforce printer plugged into ethernet port
- 2 Windows XP machines connected via wireless
- 1 Windows 7 32-bit laptop connected via wireless
Since the Epson worked fine I thought may it is a wireless issue or maybe an issue connecting from Windows 7 to Windows XP.I went through hundreds of forum posts about people with issues connecting to XP with no luck (i.e. network discovery is on, file/print sharing is enabled, all machines on the same Workgroup, etc.).All of the various XP machines can see each other, ping each other, and browse each other's shared folders.In fact, all of said machines are capable of browsing the Windows 7 64-bit machine's shared folders, but it can't browse theirs.
From the Windows 7 machine I can ping all of the others by IP or even by hostname, but if I put "\hostname" in the run dialog, it can't make a connection.In the Network & Sharing Center I do see the other Windows 7 32-bit laptop in the network map, but I can't browse to it's shared folders.I can RDP this laptop by connecting to the IP address with remote desktop.I can ping the XP machines by IP or name, but they do not show up at all in the network map and I can't browse to them from the run dialog.A few months ago I could never access these machines by "\hostname" but if I put in "\IP_ADDRESS" it would pop up a username/password box and I could get in.This is now no longer working either.I've tried numerous things and from the firewall/network settings it seems like everything is set up to be able to discover other machines, but it still won't work. Something changed on my Windows 7 machine that has locked it from doing any outgoing connections.
i have 4 networked computers (all connected through ethernet cables) They used to talk to each other fine. Now one (Call it KPC) is able to access all of the computers but none can access it. Another computer (RPC) says that it does not have permission to access it, even though i have all my file sharing turned on.
It used to ask me for a password and even though i would enter the correct password (the same on all computers) it said "logon failed: wrong username or bad password".
Also I have added KPC to the RPC homegroup using the password and it just doesnt show up on the RPC homegroup page. I really NEED RPC to be able to access KPC's everything (documents, printers etc) the rest arent a big deal at all. What happened and why did it just stop working??
I think i read somewhere that i could route all the comps on my home network through my computer in order to cut down on my kids getting around the firewalls and virus protection. i am fixing to go to linksys E3000 and AE2500 adapters for their comps. can anyone point me in the right direction on how to make everything run through me, so i dont have probs with the kids circumventing the network.
View 5 Replies View Relatedmy brother gave me a new motherboard last weekend and I had to reformat consequently, since then however I have been unable to view or access my netbook or network drive. Before reformatting I was running on Windows 7 ultimate x32 and I am now running on the same however in x64 instead. I know that my network is working as I can access my network drive through my netbook but I am unable to see my computer or netbook through both devices, but seen as my net-book was able to see my pc prior to reformatting I am pretty sure it is an issue with my computer. I have done all the usual checks through the network and sharing center to ensure that everything is shared correctly and that network discovery is turned on.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently replaced my wireless router and Bellsouth DSL modem with a single Netgear DGN2200 DSL modem/wireless router. The problem is my desktop which is wired, cannot see the laptop computers that are on the network via wireless connection. If I start a homegroup with one of the laptops, the other laptop can join but my desktop cannot (no "join now" option). If I start a homegroup with my wired desktop, neither laptop sees it.However, if I connect my desktop to the network using my USB wireless adapter, then I can establish a homegroup with either a laptop or the desktop with no problem.I have checked that IPv6 is enabled and that all the services listed in other posts are enabled. I'm fairly certain the cause is some setting in my router security, but I don't see anything that would prevent my desktop from linking. I can also get on the internet with no problem.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am using a DVB-T receiver Intel CE9500 without any problems under XP. With Windows 7 the DVB-stream is interrupted every 2 or 3 seconds for 1 second. I am using DVBviewer, that requires BDA drivers and under Windows 7 I am using the system default MPEG2 decoder.
The driver for Windows 7 was found by Windows Update "Intel CE9500 DVB-T (Enh) Receiver" v 2.1.0.136
Anyone experiencing the same issue? Or any hint?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm abroad and have only my company laptop wich I have administrator privileges. It has Windows 7 installed and the HDD is encrypted with some software and I'm not sure if I have BIOS access to change boot options. So when I was watching a streming match of football the pc crashed and I forced the shutdown. When I restarted it a BSOD shown up with the message Unmountable Boot Volume. As I'm used to deal with some of this problems but it is my first time on Windows 7 the first thing I tried was normal start up. When windows starts to load, there's no logo on the "starting windows" window and then when the bar starts to load it stops in the next sec and BSOD is shown. Next step was to start on safe mode but the same problem was shown, first the windows "STARTING WINDOWS" with no logo, then a grey window saying "LOADING WINDOWS FILES" then the window where the bar starts to fill but it only takes a sec and the same BSOD appears. Next try was the repair option but the same problem as in safe mode. So as it was now, windows is not starting in any mode.Next step was to try to boot ubuntu from a usb pen I always carry on my trips, but since the HDD is encrypted the first thing to boot is the disk and the password for hdd access, so I cannot boot from the usb with the HDD connected. I then used the laptop with my usb to continue watching the game on the stream channel, but then I really need to have my PC fixed with Windows 7, since I'm not returning home the next days and need to have my home company laptop working because I need to be 24h available to connect me. What I'm thinking is download and burn a Windows 7 DVD from M$ servers and try to access the command prompt while booting. Then try the check disk command and see if it works. I'm also downloading Hiren's boot cd or partedmagic to try different things.Next problem will be to boot from CD but since I didn't tried yet I cannot tell you if I can or cannot, but with the HDD connected I think it will be difficult since the first screen to be shown is always the encryption hdd software asking for password.Since the hdd is encrypted I think I will not be able to backup my files which can be a problem too.Do you have any suggestions? How can my windows 7 not start in safe or repair mode?Remember I'm abroad and that laptop is the only thing I have to work with at home, so no desktop to connect the HDD, no backup HDD to save files and no recordable DVDs (that I guess I'll need to buy to boot from Windows 7 CD). The only thing I have is a 4GB usb pen with ubuntu and a 16GB pen with work documents that can save some files

I've been faced with blue screens when playing on steam games, I know it's not an issue with overheating, as I've been checking the hardware monitor temps in the bios straight after system failure. As far as I know, my hardware drivers are up to scratch and my rig more than meets the requirements to play these games, i.e. left 4 dead 2. Saying that this rig is very new, it's a bit of a heart break to have it fail on me.

I've spent most of the day setting it up and getting things ready to roll and I went to stream Netflix and saw this. very. halting. stop. and. start. playback. Worse than the old crappy laptop I'm replacing! So I google and find that I need Adobe Flashplayer. I check the programs that were loaded by the manufacturer and it wasn't included. Only Adobe Reader, whatever that is. So I downloaded that. I downloaded Java for the hell of it, though I'm not sure if that was necessary.
I restarted the computer and tried Netflix again. Same. exact. problem. I'm pissed, to be frank. I haven't purchased a new computer in 12 years and I remember the first one I bought came fully loaded with virtually every program I needed to hit the ground running.
I have Windows 7 on the new laptop. I couldn't bare the thought of tackling Windows 8 so I chickened out. things to look for in the computer, or things that I should download, I'd be ever so grateful. It's nearly midnight here and I'm just going to go to bed without my favorite bedtime movie to lull me to sleep. Cry me a river. I know. Anyway, I look forward to seeing what you have to say.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have two pc's- one a Windows 7 the other is a xp. I have two streamers: Boxee Box and Pop Corn Hour. Through various trial/error I have determined I can't access the workgroup from both the Windows 7 and xp on either streamer. In other words, both streamers should be able to access workgroup on my network and neither can. I have tried resetting the router, both pc's, streamers etc. All files/folders set to share. I am not an expert but it seems since both streamers can't access my workgroup, the problem might be with windows.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have been having some trouble with File Sharing today. I have been working on setting up my media center with XBMC. All of the media and data is stored on a home server. A large percentage of the time when I try to start a movie or something, my computer will "disconnect" from the server. It will try for several seconds and then fail, or if I tell Samba (on the server) to terminate the connection. I have tried using another computer (a laptop) and it works fine, even when the trouble computer will not work. Because of this, I do not believe it is a server-sided issue. I can also browse the folders just fine until it "disconnects". The strange thing is that when this happens and until it fails, the Computer and Network folders won't load.

It wont show the button or option at all.I have also tried to open homegroup and turning on media sharing and it wont turn on. The button turns grey for a moment then it goes back to saying "Turn on media streaming".From the Windows Media Center I can get some kind of connectivity to the Xbox, but its very brief. Usually when I go to set up the extender it gets to building media library on the "Windows Media Center" then the "Xbox Windows Media Center" gives a failed to connect, retry or cancel.If I take a peek into the network from the explorer the media devices shows Xbox 360 Media Extender and it disappears within 3 seconds also another that says Xbox 360 which stays.I have tried going into services.msc and making sure UPnP, SSDP, Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service are enabled. I also disabled Windows Media Player/Center from the windows defaults to try and reinstall it.
