View 1 RepliesSo I was working with moving my My Documents folder from syncing with Dropbox to Box and I messed up a bit. Well, at least I've found it and have access to it. Now I'm working on restoring a previous version.
Problem A: It's hidden and I can't figure out how to undo that because:
Problem B: It's a shortcut and I don't know how to switch that back to something that works
Problem C: It won't let me access the previous versions. It says:
"Windows cannot access \localhostC$GMT-2012.09.07-20.26.55Users My Documents.
You do not have permission to access "Contact your network administrator to request access". I am the administrator and I have full access to the folder except for the "special permissions" check box which is grayed out empty.
I am puzzled by how to search for special characters in W7. I have some files that start with the Greek letter t I don't seem to find a way to make WS recognize characters like these for searches. When I type get no results at all. I have already tried with the advanced query filename:without getting any results. When I use Total Commander for searching for et all the results I am looking for, and I know that all these files are included in the Windows Search Index because they can be found if using some other parts of the file name, like for example searching for torrent it finds files with the name torrent.
View 3 Replies View RelatedWindows 7, won't accept a password I set to it for my HP 620, though with a special character; which goes for Kar's1990 --that's the password. Password that used to work flawlessly in weeks I have had it in use though until today after coming back from my morning routine, to boot the system, to find out every time I try to write "'" to complete the password properly, it instead adds another black dot to the input field in which case the form ends like: Kar'as1990 instead.
The keyboard isn't Spanish though configured, to international English, so to give me the special character without a problem. To throw as well, I had some virus attack yesterday; but swept them immediately. Nevertheless, I don't know if that have something to do with the keyboard no properly writing the a with the accent I'm seeking it to input.
I have tried to do a system restart and when it gets to the welcome screen login part my screen turned to a Red Screen with bright yellow text claiming that "The hardware on this computer has been deactivated" and to call my local provider. The message also says it's in 'Special Lockdown Mode'. I have the option of Rebooting or Shutting Down and even going to Safe Mode does nothing! I do believe this is a virus.

View 1 Replies View RelatedStrange problem about a month ago maybe once every 4 to 10 days the PC boots up and all the characters are strange, instead of the usual alpabet they are spercial characters. I do a system restore and all is fine. If anyone has any thoughts on this as how to solve this short of reloading windows. I included a screen shot to help with understanding what happens.
View 4 Replies View Relatednew win 7 install. Tried to move special folder from ssd to hdd.Create a new folder on the hdd with the name of the profile. I then assumed when moving folder into it they will be automatically created-> moved "downloads" folder first and selected that above folder without creating a "downloads" folder in that one and select that one. I realized something went wrong and wanted to move it back. On moving it back i made the same mistake, so the whole user profile folder is now the download folder and it is called "downloads" and not after the user name. However right-click does not work on that one. Can't change the path or move it.

This saves me a lot of time on a repetitive task with our software. However, when I asked one of our best developers how I could assign "mailto:" to another key, he had no idea how the existing functionality was set up. Googling "Windows 7 hotkeys" didn't find me any tips. What to do?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI dont know how many times you've been asked this, but as i look at other threads i'm not finding suitable answers. I have a brand new iMac with Windows 7 in parallel. I cant move ANYTHING. And not system files, i'm talking music and movies that been on my WD external for years - i cant move from portable-portable or portable to HD, which is ridiculous! Windows keeps asking for administator control - which i am, as the only user on my com. No method i've had explained to me makes this simple. C'mon guys, not technospeak, no 130 IQ requirement, just tell me what i gotta do to move files, 1 or 100, from one place to another
View 1 Replies View RelatedI get pretty tired of Vista and all this permissions stuff. I was testing out a file in different OS versions. I was working with it in Windows 7 Pro. For easy of use I moved the file over to the Windows 7's C Drive.Booted into Vista. I needed to make a quick change to the file. I go to Save the changes and I get another one of Vista's messages (that I probably never read) about you don't have permissions to save. I was like sure I do I'm Admin on my Computer (who cares what OS I'm in). The computer didn't answer me, which is probably good, because it would be laughing now. So I'm in Vista and I right click on the Windows 7 drive and I give myself permissions to acess the Drive. I'm not sure if that moved to all the sub folders or not.I get into Windows 7 and now Windows 7 Doesn't have access to the its own C Drive. I try to give it permissions like 3 or 4 times and it shows it should have permission but nothing happens. (I get an error message when trying to created a file in the C drive in Windows 7)I better go back into Vista and take off any permissions for that drive. Guess what? I do that. In vista I take any owner or permission off for the Windows 7 Drive. Now I'm back into Windows 7 and I can't even access the C Drive? I can't even access the permissions for the drive? How do I go about restoring Windows 7 permissions?

I installed Windows 7 Ultimate x64 SP1 and don't have any permissions on C:
Like for example i cant change or delete anything from Program files (x86) or Program Files! Folder Access Denied. You need permission to perform this action.
I am administrator on my system, and i even tried Built-in Administrator Account, still no permissions, same as my normal admin account, if i try to take ownership i get ERROR: Access is denied, same on both admin accounts.
I read many threads on this forum but no help for my problem, i really need to fix this cause this is my studio pc and i cant setup some software needed for my production because of permissions I never seen this problem before, i have used windows 7 as administrator on my other computers and they all work normaly.
i am unable to set permissions so that i can install programs or exe's in either administrator or user.
