Slow Dell Laptop Now Won't Boot Or Repair
Nov 23, 2012
I'm working my sister's Dell Inspiron n5010 running Windows 7 Enterprise. It has been fine until this week when it became slow to the point of unusable. I had installed Microsoft Security Essentials on it for her, and she said one night when she shut it down, it installed updates. It finished and shut down. Next morning, she opened the lid and the screen was on saying "installing update 1 of 12, 0%" as if it had never finished and froze up from the night before. It finally finished and when it booted into Windows, I tried to run a virus scan, but it said Security Essentials was out of date and failed to start. I tried unsuccessfully to update it, and I couldn't get much of anything else to run either, it was so slow. I used my install disc to start fresh with a new install of Windows, and it seemed to fix it, until I got to installing drivers. before beginning on the drivers, I installed Security Essentials and MalwareBytes, ran scans, and they came up clean. As soon as I started installing drivers, though, it became slow, froze up, and I was back to square one. Now when it tries to boot to Windows, it gives two options: launch startup repair (which freezes) or start Windows normally (which also freezes). Booting from the install disc to start again with a Windows install won't even work now. As soon as it boots from the cd, it freezes.

I turned on my laptop this morning after hibernation and said there was a fatal error coming out of hibernation, so I turned it off and chose "Launch Startup Repair" which was recommended, instead of "Start Windows Normally." After about half an hour it looked as though all had been fixed after a system restore. However, on restarting my laptop everything went slowly, start up was slower than usual. I couldn't open anything on the desktop or click the start menu without it freezing. After getting sick of this, I clicked shut down which also took forever as well.

After window installed some new updates my dell laptop was not able to start. It will boot and go in the screen for Window failed to start. "A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. Launch Startup Repair or Start Window Normally." I tired both options but eventually leads back to this page. Then i tried to enter all the safe mode with no luck. I then tried "Last Know Good Configuration" but with no hope leading back to the same screen.

So I have a Dell Inspirion 1545; One day when I turned it on, it started running extremely slow. It took almost 30 minutes just to boot to password screen, I put in the password and almost took another 30 minutes to get to desktop. Well then it started giving me errors like Dell Dock has failed and Windows (Something) had crashed, I got it up long enough to run Malware Bytes, and CCleaner to fix registry errors but nothing. Now I try to turn it on in normal mode and takes about an hour and thirty minutes to get through everything and to the desktop and thats if the icons decide to show. and if I try to get it into safe mode I get Bad_System_config_Info bsod.I dont really know whats going on, it decided that it was gonna shit out on a random day. The computer is out of warranty and Dell doesnt provide support for it anymore. Its basically un-bootable. There are no system restore points aswell, Repair your computer says it fixes everything but it doesnt.

I recently had to replace my motherboard when a power failure killed my HP Compaq nx9420, running Windows 7. When the repair was complete, the laptop would no longer boot to Windows on the internal HDD. Instead it boots to startup repair. Startup repair fails with the message, "Cannot repair this computer automatically".

My laptop takes lot of time for boot up.
Config :
Name : Asus K53SV - SX520D
Ram : 4GB DDR3
Processor : i5 2430 2nd gen
[Code]...
I've updated all drivers to latest version. I'm using CCleaner , daily clean files and registry , defragment drives, disabled everything from bootup using ccleaner (in msconfig all options are untick) .
Still laptop takes lot of time before the "Welcome" screen appears and when the "welcome" screen (in between the bg changes to black ). I tried creating boot trace but then I got a BSOD, I used system restore to fix it .

I happened to run across this forum while searching for answers to my computer troubles through Google. Here's the issue, my laptop is no more then a year old. It's a Dell Model N5040 running Windows 7 Home Premium, Service Pack 1. For the past week or so my computer has been running increasingly slower, and i cannot for the life of me figure out why.I am only using 36gb of a 446gb hard drive, I have 4gb of ram and have run a virus scan, disk cleanup, and a disk defrag.. It does not run slower while doing certain things infact it seems to selectively slow down. I attempted to complete a disk check of my C drive. This has found a few bad sectors which have been either removed during the check or manually however after a week of attempting to run the disk check I have yet to fully complete a single check. It will freeze at some point on every step and never recover.
I use Trend Micro Titanium as my virus protector and I have even attempted to use their house call software to check if maybe my virus softare was compromised I have used Spybot search and destroy and CCleaner in an attempt to clear up any clutter and/or spy/malware. My only conclusion is that maybe some Windows driver was deleted by mistake through CCleaner. I have attempted to start my computer in safe mode however even this cannot be completed, it freezes and never recovers.Nevertheless, I am at an impass i am unsure on where I go from here and would obviously prefer to fix this myself rather then let some self proclaimed "tech" at a shady I.T. company tell me i need a new computer because they cant figure it out either.

When I power on my Dell 1545, it goes to the Windows Error Recovery screen. Choosing LAUNCH STARTUP REPAIR results in a screen that says Windows files are loading, then goes to a blank screen where it hangs. Choosing START WINDOWS NORMALLY results in the process hanging at the STARTING WINDOWS screen.
Attempting to boot the computer in Safe Mode results in the process hanging at \Windows\system32\DRIVERS\CLASSPNP.SYS
I was able to remove the SATA hard drive, hook it to my desktop and recover all my files. Attempt to boot from the Windows 7 Installation CD results in the process hanging at the STARTING WINDOWS screen.
Attempt to boot from the Windows 7 Installation CD with the hard drive removed results in the process hanging at the STARTING WINDOWS screen. I was able to boot Ubuntu from the CD and navigate through the computer.
I'm at a loss as to what to do next. I am able to access the BIOS setup, but can't make any changes because the touchpad will not move the pointer. A USB mouse will allow the pointer to move, but not when I'm in the BIOS setup.

I'm working on my brother's girlfriend's Dell Inspiron 1764 that will begin to start windows and then immediately goes back to the post screen. I have tried to do a system restore, and recover from a system image... but of course she has made neither of these backups. The laptop will not load windows in safe mode and i have also tried to disable driver signature enforcement. I'm not exactly sure what happened before the failure, but i know my brother installed a Honda data logging program called HONDATA right before it crashed so I am suspecting some sort of driver issues. Is there anything else i can do besides the full Dell system restore that would wipe all of her data?

I bought this Fujitsu laptop for less than a year. Its only for my school work. It takes forever to bootup, startup and it sometime hangs when I open up a program or typing. For the bootup, it takes very long time on the window logo, after that the black screen, followed by the welcome page with the loading cursor. Each of this process take a long time. For startup, its not so long but its still quite lag. For the opening up of program and typing, everytime I open up my visual studio, it will take a long time to show up and even if it showed up, it will be "not responding".So I will have to open it a second time before I can start using itWhen I am typing my codes, it will randomly hang and show that the program is not responding. I am still able to move my cursor though.

I have a Toshiba Satellite C655-S5132 that just shut down & now will not boot Windows 7. Just goes to black screen w/blinking cursor then goes to 'startup repair' (which I'm postiive this is a virus of somekind) & will not allow me to do anything. Just repeats itself. I downloaded Windows 7 repair to a CD-R, chgd BIOS settings to CD/DVD to boot first, saved changes, and will NOT pull/boot up from disc. I've tried 2diff repair discs, both do not work. 'F8' does not do anything for me, not able to get to 'safe mode'. Computer is only 2yrs old.

Hardware Information (This is from memory and may not be completely accurate):The computer model is emachines The processor is a dual core Intel Pentium The graphics card is NVIDIA (Can't remember the model.)4GB of RAM installed Software Information (Also from memory, but this is likely to be more accurate than the hardware.): Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit Antivirus software is Comodo Internet Security - Also the firewall (product information).I often used Advanced System Care for optimization.-product information.after searching the internet for ways to fix my problem for the past three days, I'm at a complete loss. I was told by a professional that my registry was likely corrupted and that my best bet would be to re-install Windows entirely. I was hoping it wouldn't come to that, but was prepared nonetheless. So I inserted the installation disk, and wouldn't you know it, the installer wouldn't recognize my hard drive (BIOS recognizes it though). Searching for reasons why this was happening only turned up people saying to make sure it was recognized by BIOS, which I considered a no brainier. When it still didn't work for people in certain threads, they were told to try wiping their hard drives. I've done it. Windows still doesn't want to notice my hard drive. After that, I decided to try and install Windows to an external hard drive. I know this isn't how Windows was designed, and I knew it wasn't how Windows was meant to be used, but I was (to my knowledge) out of other options (Also, the external hard drive has 1 TB of space on it, so I wasn't concerned about speed loss). So, I searched for ways to do that, and I came across PWboot. The first half of the installation worked, the second half did not. I began getting an error that read (bootmgr is missing press ctrlalt+delete to reboot.) Which I did. But that didn't fix anything. So I tried the entire process again, and it didn't work. The "Repair your computer" feature in the windows install disk turned up nothing as well. I can't "Factory Reset" because it can't detect any installation of windows, the startup repair function can't "repair this computer automatically", and none of the other options will even open (with the exception of the command prompt, but most of the commands aren't valid for some reason.)

I have a Dell Inspiron 17R (7010) that I bought brand new and only used for about a year. The system keeps crashing, displaying various error codes that range from memory management to bad pool header.I've tried replacing the hard drive, the RAM cards, testing the video card, reinstalling Windows 7 AND flashing the BIOS.I can say that I will absolutely never purchase a Dell again, simply for the customer service. I was a month inside of my warranty when this started happening, and Dell kept putting me off until the remainder of my warranty expired.

My master boot record has become corrupted, but I can't even get to safe mode command prompt. When you press F8 at boot up and make the selection, the basic drivers start to load but halt at disk. I looked up these errors online, and it seems the consensus is to use the bootrec.exe /FixMBR command, or some flavor of such. But I can't even get that far! I've changed the Boot Order in BIOS so that an Installation DVD will take precedence, but I never get to the windows installation screen. It continues to try to boot from the hard drive and the cycle starts all over. I do have a copy of Acronis Backup 2009, I was able to have it boot, but I didn't have any options to open a command prompt. If this was a desktop, I'd simply open it up and install the drive in a good computer I have and work on it.

i have a dell inspiron 545s windows 7 home premium from dell.it is a desktop.it is about 2 years old.a few months ago a virus shut my computer down and i paid $275 for the software and software warranty. i also paid an additional $119 for 2 years unlimited technical support. after the technician got my computer up and running again i discovered the the audio for everything (Internet for music and movies) is very low and inaudible and also scrambled. i couldn't fix it myself for weeks so i called dell for help. they checked and discovered the speakers are fine. they told me to pay $59 for a technician to look into it (someone on a website says it's only good for 30 days) and fix the sound system if he could, otherwise i would have to buy a sound card of other hardware and install it myself. my computer which includes the monitor and keyboard and mouse only costs $650. if i shell out anymore i should buy another computer.i like my computer, and i'm trying not to throw anything of the sort into the landfill if i can help it.besides i'm out of a job. do you think i should pay dell any further since that problem only cropped up after they fixed the computer and i wasn't even using the audio when it went down?
