Screen Freezes On Just Saying System Resume For A Minute Or Two?
Aug 8, 2011
I'm running windows 7 pro 64-bit and whenever my asus U31F goes into hibernate and i try to system resume, it takes over 5 minutes. The screen freezes on just saying system resume for a minute or two, then as the coloured balls that come in to make the windows logo - they come in frame by frame, pausing for ages on each frame. This whole process means i have to hard reset my computer if i need it quickly and is really really starting to annoy me. Is there anything i can do???Note: On further inspection - i've realised that the drive doesn't start spinning while the screen is freezed, and then when it does that's aboutwhen they balls start to come into the screen.

I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium SP 1 64-bit on a HP 620 (just a year old).
Lately, whenever I return to the laptop having left it alone for some time (Power Management set to 'Sleep' after 10 mins), and try to resume, I can hear the it resuming (fans etc.), however, the screen remains completely black.
The only solution is to shut down the system manually and boot it up again.

win 7 hangs on startup and freezes or BSOD 0x000000d1 within 1 minute usually. system runs fine if I boot to safe mode.no serious hardware or software changes around the time it started happening (that i recall) I didn't use my pc much for a few days and then the first time i noticed (around June 7th, 2012) I just logged in and there was a popup saying something like windows had recovered from an unexpected shutdown and the system was really slow and then it froze. Makes me think maybe a power outage corrupted something (i'm not on a UPS) or a windows update went badly. i tried to update several drivers in safe mode but none were succesfull. Catalyst Install Manager says: "Failed to load detection driver"sfc /scannow reported no violations perfmon /report gives me...."Error: An error occured while attempting to generate the report. The system cannot find the path specified. "My oldest system restore point says June 7th, 2012 so i did restore but it still has the problem.I built the system 1-2 years ago and haven't re-installed the OS since.

Although I found some issues that are almost similar, nothing seems to really solves the issue I have.
Build 7068, x64 freezes after a resume from sleep (S3). The desktop image is visible but the system totally hangs. Only a hard power down works.
I use two USB devices (keyboard and remote) and both can resume the system from sleep. Strangly the system did work for the first day and now even a clean install fails on resume...?
Vista x86, had no issues at all, rock solid operation for almost a year.
System config:
Gigabyte EP45ds4 (BIOS P9), E8400, ATI HD2600pro (this card only works with driver 8.12 in Vista SP2 compatibility mode to enable svideo output), HVR2200.

If I don't move my mouse, or type anything for 1 minute, Windows 7 automatically brigs me to the log-in screen / change user screen (locks the pc).
I have set all the power settings for sleep, hibernate, dim, turn of HDD to none, or never. I also do not have a log-in password for my username (there is only one user).

The connection has 5 bars so I checked the event log, and here is what I found.Name resolution for the name teredo.ipv6.microsoft.com timed out after none of the configured DNS servers responded.I am using windows 7 ultimate 32 bit on a desktop pc with a built in linksys card.

I recently have noticed longer boot times with my computer. This happens with Vista or 7 both 64 bit.
After I am at the OS select screen, ill see the little Windows load screen w/ the small bar. After that I get a blank screen that lasts as long as 2 minutes before Im taken to the log-in/welcome.
There is no cursor, just a blank screen. I noticed this when for Vista 64, but did not see it when I had 7022 on the Win 7 side. But now see it as well for Build 7048.

This is the weirdest problem that iv been trying to solve myself for months now. Basically while playing pc games the screen goes black for a second then comes back and resumes as normal. thing is it is totally intermittent and slightly different for different games. e.g Titan quest, mass effect 1 and 2, need for speed shift 2 unleashed, HoN - it will go black for a second or so but the game will carry on as normal, sound continues and when the short black out is over my character has carried on moving as normal just without me being able to see what is going on F1 2010, Grid, Quake live - No black outs occur whatsoever Dead space, Dead island - the blackouts seam to affect the game either pausing or freezing the game when they occur to be honest it looks to me like the graphics driver is stalling for a few seconds and then recovering, But iv updated my graphics card drivers 4 times since this problem started and that hasn't changed anything, i even completely uninstalled the graphics drivers and reinstalled them to no avail. The only thing i haven't done is reinstalled windows and replaced my graphics card. Both of which i don't want to do unnecessarily. I read somewhere that video codex could be the issue, so a while ago i uninstalled k-lite and it seamed to fix the problem in mass effect 2, (not completely but id did seam to reduce it (coincidence?)) but after i finished that game i noticed it cropping up in other games again. So basically the advice im asking for is, Do you think its a hardware problem, should i invest in a new graphics card? or do you think its software that either a fresh copy of windows or some installing/uninstalling combination of different software might resolve the issue?

My recently purchased Laptop, a Lenovo IdeaPad v570 (1066CLU), has been having problems with the display driver. After a minute or so of gameplay using the NVIDIA driver, my audio starts to stutter for a few seconds, and finally, it blue screens with "Attempt to reset the display driver and recover from timeout failed", and something about nvlddmkm.sys. Sometimes the BSoD doesn't even show up. I tried downgrading to the Lenovo recommended driver from the latest build, but I'm still having the same issue. On some occasions, it doesn't BSoD, so I can alt-tab and see the message:"Display Driver stopped responding and has recovered".Even if games are running smoothly, they still have issues. One example is Team Fortress 2, but If I disable the NVIDIA driver in Device Manager, the Intel one works fine, with a worse framerate. Pretty weird. I have both the Intel HD Graphics 3000 and GeForce 525M driver versions supplied by the manufacturer (Lenovo).

I have an ssd and my windows usually boots really fast, like around 15 seconds. Recently though, I've encountered a problem where after the glowing windows icon and before the login screen I get a black screen for about 1-2 minutes. I have no idea what might be causing this and I want to fully experience my SSD's capabilities. I miss being able to reboot in a matter of seconds instead of minutes. My SSD is doing great, it doesn't seem to be failing at all, still super fast after the boot. I've tried googling it but its kind of a catch all and most things I find are windows hanging indefinitely during boot.

I am versed in group policy and recently applied screensavers with idle lockouts, but would rather the user is just kicked back to the login screen after idle timer is reached. How can I accomplish this?
In the registry settings, the SCRNSAVE.EXE has to be set to something, and I can't figure out an option other than the screensaver files located in windows/system32. I've seen "logon.scr" used as the value in SCRNSAVE.EXE, but it does nothing on my laptops. Nor can I even find that file on computers where it does work (not owned by me, its a friends).
Further, when applied via GP, some users aren't catching the timeout setting properly and its kicking the screensaver after 60 seconds, instead of 900. Any reason some have a delay, and it takes days for the setting to fully apply and get into the registry?

Is it possible to set a welcome screen on resume? I know that on display properties there is an option to set a logon screen on resume, but I would like to get a welcome screen.Actually, I'm pretty sure that my settings were like that till yesterday - after 10 minutes of inactivity my display would turn off, and then on resume I would get a welcome screen.

My promblem is, I shut down my computer earlier in the afternoon yesterday. I come back and turn it on and after running a minute or two, the fans are going like crazy and screen goes black, monitor goes to sleep. I manually hold down the power button, restart and choose the option to repair. Once again, after a minute or so fans start running hard, blacked out screen, monitor goes to sleep. My husband has tried F8 and we've tried going back to a restore point. It will start and sound normal, but when the fans start to run hard we know the screen will go black.Opinions from various people I know and from websites are stating it's my ATI Radeon graphics card. We've even tested the RAM, yet within those two minutes after start up, monitor goes black and states no signal or it's sleeping. We've also tried numerous monitors, just for sake of process of elimination.

So, when I let my laptop sit for a while, eventually the screen will turn off. When I shake the mouse to bring it back, the computer stalls for about a minute before it will resume operations.
Any idea why?

I'm having a problem where if my laptop is idle and the screen goes black, I can't get it to resume. I try moving the mouse and hitting buttons, but nothing happens. I have to completely shut the PC off and start it again. Also, if I put it to sleep, the same thing happens (it goes black but doesn't sleep or resume). My drivers are all up to date but it still happens.

I just installed windows 7. I am the only user of this computer, and have disabled the need to enter a password. But I want to get rid of the blue background with my picture, which needs to be clicked on to resume, every time my screen goes black (which happens if I don't use the computer for a few minutes, don't know what does this). Why should I have this blue screen and need to click my picture if I am the only possible user? I did delete an account with some funny name that I did not create, but I can not delete the administrator and guest accounts. When I have to click my picture, it is the only picture.

Whenever my machine sleeps/hibernates on its own, for battery or whatever, the display doesn't come back upon resume. The O/S comes up and I can actually ctl-alt-del and hear myself log in, but I cannot see anything.
I think I am having an ATI Mobility FireGL V5200 driver issues on Windows 7, but I've not seen any updated driver. Also I tried uninstalling the driving and running a less than ideal default windows display driver which works fine, but eventually gets overwritten by windows update with the latest and faulty driver.
I have to power down and potentially lose work to get the display back. If i self sleep/hibernate the machine, it comes back fine. It's only when after some time on battery or if its sleeps due to inactivity that this happens.
I see a bunch of Linux/Ubuntu wikis on workarounds but nothing for Win 7 so far.

I just finished building my computer the other day and installed Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit edition. The install went great and the computer is amazingly fast, but I am less than impressed with the boot time. I have windows installed on two Corsair Force GT 60 GB Solid State Drives in RAID 0 configuration. The motherboard is a GIGABYTE G1. Sniper and the processor is an i7 990X. As I said, I am very impressed with the performance once the computer is on, but it takes ages to get there. I had some trouble with it stalling at the "Verifying DMI Pool Data..." for about 30 seconds each boot. That seems to have been fixed when I cleared the board and reconfigured BIOS. The problem I am having now is that when Windows begins to load, it says "Starting Windows" (right before the logo flies in). It will sit at that screen for over a minute before it starts to animate. It only takes about 5 seconds to load after the animation starts. No problems after that. It does change depending on the BIOS settings. It did not always do this. I have been messing with them so much to try to isolate what's causing it but I cannot.

During a full system restore of my computer i didn't realize it was not charging and left it to finish the restore. Shortly coming back later, it had died so i rebooted it. During the reboot, it did its normal process well restoring," Setup is starting services.", but then during the process when gathering windows data to restore the computer in its final stages, it gives me the message" Windows could not finish configuring the system. To attempt to resume configuration, restart the computer." Shortly after starting my computer, going through the same process, it gives me that message again, and then it repeats, and eventually of course, goes into a circle of completing the same issue.

As of about 3 days ago my Dell Inspiron N7010 (Windows 7 Home Prem 64bit) fails to boot up. It gets to the initial Windows screen before the login screen and freezes, then sends me into Startup Repair. [code] I've tried running the diagnostics and get no error codes. I've tried restore points, memory diagnostics.. pretty much everything except factory image, with no success. I have a lot of government programs installed on this laptop, so.

I've been getting a series of system freezes (black screen, clock on my Logitech gaming keyboard freezing for ~20s before the system resets) and BSODs for about 5 and a half months. Looking through the Event Viewer the first seems to have been 19th Jan 2012 while the latest was today. There seems to be no pattern to when they happen - some as soon as the Windows desktop loads, others after the PC has been on and running fine for hours. Most of the time I get freezes but from time to time I get the blue screens with errors such as 0x4e, 0x19, 0xA, 0xC2 and 0x24. Various internet searches have told me it could be hardware-related (particularly memory) or something to do with the registry. I did install two new memory sticks (the Corsair ones) around the 15th Jan (4 days before the first crash) and I seem to remember the system crashing during a programme install at around the same time. Looking through the Event Viewer shows each crash (84 to date) is marked by "Critical 07/06/2012 18:07:51 Kernel-Power Event ID:41 Task Category63)" with a total of 17 different BugcheckCodes of which 78 is the most common, followed by 26.
I've attached all the SF Diagnostics, CPU-Z and RAMMon readouts in the following zip file:MrCheeseUK-Seven Forums.zipforgot to say that I've tried the Windows chkdsk and memory diagnostic and both came back clean (though the system crashed when Windows had booted right after the most recent memory diagnostic).

The problem occurs while playing Starcraft2. The system will freezes after maybe 10 min of play. Screens go black and sound is frozen, and I have to reset manually. Sometimes though, I can play for hours with no freezeThe Windows install is only a few weeks old and I led Windows install every driver for itself, and then updated my graphics driver to the newest from nVidia.com, installed the drivers for the Razer keyboard and mouse and then went on to install my usual stuff from Ninite.I am aware that it might be a problem with heat (on the graphics card), however it should not be, since the computer is placed in a closet with a very large fan installed in it, so that fresh air is constantly flowing. Also no weird artifacts are displayed before the crash, which is usually the case with heat problems on the graphics card, in my experience.I used the verifier.exe procedure to force a BSOD (don't know if this isctual freeze is not a BSOD). The BSOD happened before I could get to desktop. The dump analysis and health repport is atttached. My system specs are in my profile
