Stall When Screen Resume
Sep 6, 2009So, when I let my laptop sit for a while, eventually the screen will turn off. When I shake the mouse to bring it back, the computer stalls for about a minute before it will resume operations.
Any idea why?

Screen Does Not Resume On Resume From Sleep?
Oct 17, 2012I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium SP 1 64-bit on a HP 620 (just a year old).
Lately, whenever I return to the laptop having left it alone for some time (Power Management set to 'Sleep' after 10 mins), and try to resume, I can hear the it resuming (fans etc.), however, the screen remains completely black.
The only solution is to shut down the system manually and boot it up again.

I know that on display properties there is an option to set a logon screen on resume, but I would like to get a welcome screen.Actually, I'm pretty sure that my settings were like that till yesterday - after 10 minutes of inactivity my display would turn off, and then on resume I would get a welcome screen.

Jan 28, 2012I've just put together my new pc and i'm now having trouble trying to install windows7 64 bit from a usb boot. When i boot from the usb key it hangs on the starting windows screen. It takes no longer than 1 minute to get there and then it seems like the computer isn't responding.

Usb Drives Stall At End Of Copy?
Jan 1, 2013My computer will start out copying to a usb flash drive at 80+ MB/s, and progressively slow down until less than 5MB/s. Then at the end of the file copy, it will stall out for a while and finally close the save window. The drive is rated at 30+MB/s and certified usb 2.0. The port is also usb 2.0. What can cause the usb bus to slow down and act this way? Trying to copy files that are greater than 4GB onto NTFS filesystem.

Aug 8, 2011I'm running windows 7 pro 64-bit and whenever my asus U31F goes into hibernate and i try to system resume, it takes over 5 minutes. The screen freezes on just saying system resume for a minute or two, then as the coloured balls that come in to make the windows logo - they come in frame by frame, pausing for ages on each frame.This whole process means i have to hard reset my computer if i need it quickly and is really really starting to annoy me. Nov 20, 2010I'm having a problem where if my laptop is idle and the screen goes black, I can't get it to resume. I try moving the mouse and hitting buttons, but nothing happens. But I want to get rid of the blue background with my picture, which needs to be clicked on to resume, every time my screen goes black (which happens if I don't use the computer for a few minutes, don't know what does this). Why should I have this blue screen and need to click my picture if I am the only possible user? I did delete an account with some funny name that I did not create, but I can not delete the administrator and guest accounts. When I have to click my picture, it is the only picture.

Nov 13, 2011Whenever my machine sleeps/hibernates on its own, for battery or whatever, the display doesn't come back upon resume. The O/S comes up and I can actually ctl-alt-del and hear myself log in, but I cannot see anything.
I think I am having an ATI Mobility FireGL V5200 driver issues on Windows 7, but I've not seen any updated driver. Also I tried uninstalling the driving and running a less than ideal default windows display driver which works fine, but eventually gets overwritten by windows update with the latest and faulty driver.
I have to power down and potentially lose work to get the display back. If i self sleep/hibernate the machine, it comes back fine. It's only when after some time on battery or if its sleeps due to inactivity that this happens.
I see a bunch of Linux/Ubuntu wikis on workarounds but nothing for Win 7 so far.

Have been reading bleeping computers.com and figured out where to find the error report, and pasted it below. NO hardware or software changes done, everything seems to be updated from the update advisory. Anytime i start the computer from a shutdown or hibernation/sleep it gives me the option of continue with system resume or delete restoration data and proceed to system boot menu. If i click continue with resume it gives a black screen with this "_" in the upper left corner and never loads. It doesn't let me go back to what i was doing upon using hibernate, sleep, or anything that would save what i was doing.

May 24, 2011I've been searching for a solution to this one for a while, and many people seem to have similar issues, but with subtle differences.
For me, the are occasions when I can't get windows to resume. Basically, it seems like 3 out of 4 times I can bring the computer from sleep or hibernation just fine, but the fourth time, the monitor will turn on, try and find a video feed, but find nothing, and then just go to sleep. I hold the power button until the comp powers off, then try again.
It again tries to resume, but this time, I only get a black screen with the blinking white cursor. I shut it off again, and this time it asks me if I want to try again or delete the restoration data and continue to windows.
There doesn't seem to be any pattern to this. It SEEMS like every fourth time it does this, but I'm not sure. There are no other major issues with this installation. I have the entire computer hooked up to a surge protector. If I press any keys when I'm trying to get it to resume, nothing happens

Last night I had recovered a Word Document Office 2010 and not saved it. Then I saw another post that said to hit F12 and run the diagnostics... that is what I am doing now. It is in the prediagnostics now and said the next test is 30 minutes. All tests were passed and it is doing memory checks. Other post said it ran all night.Do you need to go through all the diagnostics to be able to use F8?Or will I need to turn the computer off and on again and see the resuming screen and then hit F8?

Dec 2, 2011I've recently encountered a problem on trying to take my laptop out of Hibernate mode. The machine hibernates normally, but when attempting to resume it will display a black screen with a flashing cursor in the top right-hand corner, then get stuck there. At the moment this is more an irritation than a serious issue as manually turning the machine off and on again at the power button offers me the choice between trying again and deleting the hibernation file's data and rebooting as normal. If I choose the first option the computer will lock in the same place as before; the second option has it booting as normal.
I've tried troubleshooting the problem myself but my limited understanding of how my laptop actually functions means there's only so far I can go by myself. Is there any way I can go about fixing this or will I need to get someone to take a look at it? ETA: I just tried waking the computer from Sleep only to find that it had a similar problem there as well. No flashing cursor, but the screen just went black and the machine wouldn't respond until I turned it off and back on.
Monitor Will Not Resume After Lid Is Closed?
Jun 3, 2012I have an Alienware M11x r1 and have disabled hybrid graphics to be able to use latest Nvidia drivers. Dell/alienware is not supporting new drivers for this. All seems to work except that when I close the lid then open it after machine goes in to sleep mode the screen will not turn on and machine requires a hard restart. I paid Alienware for help...big mistake now my laptop is worse.

Frozen Windows Resume Loader
Feb 9, 2013I have done some looking around and have found lots of mentions of the same issue but people tend to skip through some of the in between key steps as they are working on their own computers and not trying to do this blind.
I had no idea at first what she'd done but apparently this is a common problem. Basically, if a netbook's battery goes dead while it is hibernating then it creates a problem when the user reboots. The machine gets to the windows resume loader page and then freezes there. It offers you a choice but the keyboard is unresponsive. I got her to force quit and restart but same thing.
I found that many were able to use a PS2 keyboard to work around this but my mom does not have one. She doesn't have a start up disc or anything like that.
I found this solution elsewhere but as you see, the guy skips the key steps: Hopefully your computer gives you the opportunity to visit you bios settings/ peripherals. You can usually access this at the very beginning of startup by following the prompts such as "F1, F9, DEL, TAB, "....etc. I am pretty sure that each Motherboard has a different setup. Once I found My way to the peripherals I was able to scroll down to "USB keyboard" and saw that it was disabled. I enabled it, saved those settings and continued on to the "RESUME LOADER" page that had not been responsive before and Ta-Da!!!! it worked.
So, I need the easiest, most explainable steps to follow so I can walk my mom through them. It is the f8 key you press upon startup to get to get to safemode? Or does this guy mean to actually press F1 then F9 and so on?

PCI-E Slot Not Working After Resume From Hibernate?
Apr 6, 2011[URL] my problem all started when I accidentally pressed the sleep button on my keyboard. While that was happening I had just started loading a game called League of Legends, had my web browser up, and had a microphone program called Ventrilo all running in the background. Monitor went black and into standby, computer's main light went from blue to orange. When I tried to click on my mouse/press keys on my keyboard it came out of sleep but still no signal from the monitor, I then restarted the computer from it's main switch and still no change. I could hear through my headphones that the computer had booted and made it to the log in screen, but still no monitor signal. The graphics card I'm using in my PCI-E slot at the moment is a Galaxy 450 GTS, been working fine for over 4 months until now (Uses a DVI Cable). At this point I decided to switch out a PCI-E card that uses VGA instead of DVI to see if my chord was buggy knowing that the card is in fully working condition just less powerful, still no change. I plugged my monitor into another computer and my onboard graphics card, works fine.
Thing that I've tried:
-Reset cmos
-Reset motherboard battery
-Seated a VGA PCI-E Graphics Card that I know works fine, still no monitor signal
-System restore
-Tested RAM and took each stick out one by one booting each time individually
-Reseated the graphics card
-Tested Monitor on another computer (Working)
-Made sure all power connections are firm
-Changed my power settings to never hibernate
Onboard graphics card is working, but won't recognize that there's any card in my PCI-E slot (Fan works on the card showing it has power). I've read through different forums that people have had a similar problem but none seem to be exactly the same as mine. I've searched through my BIOS (Very limited options to say the least) and cannot find anywhere how to disable my onboard graphics card and make PCI-E primary. I've tried to uninstall my video drivers and reinstall, but because it doesn't find the GTS 450, it wont let me apply the drivers. The other day it made 7 beeps during post, from what I read means it's a video ram issue, but now that has stopped after putting my BIOS settings to default. The only solution that I can think of off the top of my head is to reformat Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit.
Sleep Mode Resume Bsod
Jan 10, 2012i am including the minidump from the latest crash to see if i can get some help with this one, it is driving me nuts. i put the pc to sleep at night and then when resumed in the morning i am either greeted with a smooth working desktop or a bsod. i am at my wits end trying to sort this out, so i will come and ask the experts.

I have only a single user account, with no password associated with it, and yet I'm still unable to find a way for my computer to skip the login screen when I lift the lid of my notebook after the machine has suspended. Jun 30, 2012I have a Lenovo ThinkPad T400 running a fresh install of Win7 Pro x64 with SP1. I did the clean install as normal, getting necessary drivers from Lenovo and leaving the rest to Windows. In the past this has worked well.
This time I am having an issue where resuming from sleep or hibernate takes longer than starting the system from shutdown. Looking at the event logs it seems to be driver related. I open the lid, press the power button, and I get nothing other than a power light, no HDD access light as usual. This usually takes quite a while. Once I get to the logon screen, it is unresponsive to both password and fingerprint reader. It sits like that for a while and than after logging on everything works fine.
The machine has ran Norton Internet Security 2012 from day 1 and I have no reason to believe that this is malware related.
I have saved the "Diagnostics-Performance" section of event viewer an EVTX file which should be attached to this post. It will open in event viewer.
