Vista To Windows 7 Install Ending In System Recovery?

Oct 12, 2010

eway with Windows Vista x64 and want to upgrade to Windows 7. I've been trying to figure out how to do it by following along to another thread in here but as BarefootKid mentioned, it is probably best that I start my own threadAfter I install Windows 7 and it completes and reboots it takes me to system recovery but it is the system recovery for Windows vista. I've been trying different things like formatting the partition right before the install and making the partition that Windows 7 is going to go on "active" in the .cmd prompt. I keep going in circlesinstalling Windows 7, getting system recovery and eventually choosing to reformat from Gateway's manufacturer settings...although once I do this I can't actually get back into Windows Vista as that now seems to be messed up. (I don't have the original Vista installation cd). Then I try rebooting and installing from the Windows 7 cd again to try more techniques to get it to work...I'm at the point of possibly deleting the recovery partition because the Vista remnants seem to be on this partition and taking over once I install Windows 7.

2nd Win7 Install, Now Vista Loading Screen After Remove

Jun 30, 2009

Some might remember I posted a few days ago about installing Windows 7 (64bit) separately on this same comp (different hard drive) to test what drivers worked for the devices I had, in particular the Canon scanner.

Anyway it worked, and I booted into Windows 7 64b fine - but I had a few issues getting back into 32-bit one (64bit one became the active boot. even after i used diskpart and bcdedit etc.

Anyway, I got the 32-bit install to again load as the default (and deleted the 64-bit partition). BUT, I keep getting the Vista booting screen - i.e. the small green loading bar instead of the elaborate "Starting Windows'. I then put in the Windows 7 dvd in and went to repair the install (to try & get the Windows 7 boot screen back), but it wouldnt even find the OS install to repair it.

So basically, its back to the 32bit Windows 7 install fine - but with the older Vista loading screen. Any ideas?

Removing Vista And Its Recovery From Dual Boot With Windows 7

Sep 8, 2010

I have a Dell Inspiron 15 System. It came with Windows Vista Home Basic when I purchased it 2 years back.I installed Windows 7 as a dual boot with windows vista on it(with tut from here ) and it ran very smoothly. I am happy with my dual boot system. But off late, I am facing problem of low hard disk space(as seen in SS). This is because most of programs like MS office, few games, Acrobat, Winamp etc are installed twice, one in C: (Vista) and once in D: (Win 7)Now I am very happy with 7 and want to remove Vista. Pls link me to a tutorial that can help me to remove it. I want to remove C: and E: (Vista's Recovery which came by default with system) I want to retain my existing programs, settings in win 7 as it is. Untouched. I want to merge those C and E into one.

Old Vista Recovery Partition

I completed upgrading my DELL notebook to Windows 7 from Vista. This was part of the W7 promo that started this summer. DELL sent me the upgrade discs. I'm wondering now since I'm using W7 is there any need for the old recovery partition? Should I delete the partition? I highly doubt I'd be returning to Vista any time soon.

XP Recovery Console Versus Vista/7's Recovery Console?

Nov 19, 2011

It seems to me that XP's recovery console is somewhat better than the one that comes with Vista or 7, unless someone can point me in the right direction for finding further documentation on this topic.

The main difference is the lack of ability to tinker with services (LISTSVC / ENABLE / DISABLE commands). A missed opportunity is the lack of registry tweaking, considering that REGEDIT can be run, but I think it only allows you to look at the registry for the recovery console rather than the main Windows installation, which doesn't help much (though I haven't tried to import/mount the registry file from the main Windows installation).

Deleted Vista Recovery Data?

Dec 24, 2010

I originally had Vista on my computer when purchased. The computer had C:, D:,. The HP recovery was on D: with everything else on C:I deleted the Data from the D:recovery disc as I had no more use for Vista and most of the programs that came from HP would not work with Windows 7. I have recovery disc if I do need them at a later date to reinstall Vista.I installed Windows 7 Ultimate on C: This left D: partition empty. I have most recently used D which is about 13 GB for4 abackup of some of my programs.I also have another 640 GB hard disc which is G: that I use as backup for my windows system.I would like to do away with the D: partition because I can also put all my program backups on G: as well. How do I delete the D: partition and incorporate that space into the C: partition? Make Recovery Disk Win 7 Upgrade From Vista

Oct 29, 2009

Right now I will upgrade my Vista laptop to Windows 7 . I already did it before with the RC and worked great.

Anyways there are certain functions on my laptop I use . So that's why I didn't do a clean install. But if there is any problem and I need to reinstall windows. I will have to install Vista first . Till SP1 is the best I believe and then again Windows 7 .

A big hassle if you ask me?

Is there a way to make a boot-able DVD or something of my laptop once I upgraded to windows 7 and I take kind of a snapshot of that moment.

or something else'

Like when i got my laptop I had to make 2 DVD's so I could reinstall windows. Was hoping I could do the same with Windows7 somehow.

Another thing is. I have an English Windows Vista on a machine but will get a Dutch windows 7 upgrade. I don't think I can upgrade from a English to Dutch right? Although the upgrade is Ultimate?

I also can install an English version of Ultimate and use the key from the Dutch ultimate? or is the key from the box really only for the DVD that's in the box ?

Windows 7 Reset To Windows Vista After System Recovery

Jul 15, 2012

I recently bought a computer from someone that had windows 7 on it. It was an HP pavillion computer that came with windows vista and a windows 7 CD. He installed windows 7 on it... Before buying it, I ran a system recovery to reset the system to factory settings so it would get rid of all of his junk on it, and it reset the OS to windows vista SP1 (64-bit). He couldn't find the Windows 7 CD that came with it. I really do NOT like this OS. I have encountered some gaming incompatibility, I couldn't run netflix on firefox because silverlight was incompatible... and I really just don't like the feel of it, and I think it may even be giving me performance problems (I have an i7 1st gen processor and 3GB of trichannel RAM)

how can I get windows 7 back? =_= Do I really need to go and buy it if he can't find the CD? Because it will be quite a while before I can, especially considering I still have about $200 in modifications that I need to do to this comp

Does 7 Upgrade Overwrite / Remove Vista ?

Oct 24, 2009

I just want to make sure that installing 7 as an upgrade 'over' Vista removes all of Vista's operating system, particularly the registry. Is this a correct assumption? I've got some registry entries for magicjack that I can't remove with Regedit due to permission problems and since my "7 upgrade" is due in a few days I don't want to mess with trying to remove them again.

Remove Vista From Dual Boot System

Jul 6, 2009

I am dual booting Vista and Windows7 RC 7100. They are both on the same Hard Drive on different partitions. I have made the decision to stick with the new OS (Windows7) and give Vista the boot. So I want to get rid of the extra partition and revert to a single OS (Windows7).

I don't want to reformat the whole hard drive and completely re-install the windows7 operating system. I want to remove Vista from the dual boot menu and keep windows7. Then I want to format the Vista Partition. How can I do this and keep my present installation of Windows7 without having to reinstall Windows7?

Windows 7 Recovery Disk In The CD Drive, Attempted To Boot Up, But The CD Drive Just Spins And Spins But Never Boots?

May 29, 2012

My HP laptop HD crashed, am trying to replace it with a Kingston HyperX 120GB SSD. I do not have Windows installation disks, only have Windows Recovery Disks. All installation instructions I have found for SSD's is for cloning, which I cannot do since the HD is deadI have installed the SSD, booted into BIOS, this simple BIOS version doesn't allow me to change anything on the HD, but it does recognize it and let me do a HD test, so it does recognize the SSD. I then put the Windows Recovery disk in the CD drive, attempted to boot up, but the CD drive just spins and spins but never boots up. I thought the CD drive might be bad, so I tried an external USB CD drive with the Recovery disk, but it does the same (just spins). I even got a new Windows 7 installation disk (from another PC) to see if it will boot from it, but get nothing but a spinning CD I have not done anything yet to the HyperX SSD, haved not formatted or partitioned it.I thought this would be done by Recovery on the OS installationThe BIOS is set up to first boot from the CD drive, so the boot order is not the issue.
