Can't Access Windows Files/how To Remove Standart Administrator Account?
Mar 12, 2011i did'nt do anything specific to make it happen, but all of a sudden i can't acces all those "my" files in my documents anymore, you know "my picture" "my music", all of those files. the icon is a little faded and shows a lock on it. when i try to acces it it sais "acces denied" (in my language). i can still acces all files i created myself though. also, a few days later, i all of a sudden have a stndart administrator account.i know that it is standard because my account is removable but the account "administrator" is not. now i would like to know how i could regain acces to my files, or even better remove to administrator account and turn my account back to the standard administrator account.

Jul 19, 2012I was using my computer and wanted to change the security setting and access level of the folder where the windows was installed. When i right clicked on the folder and then selected the properties,then the security tab and i saw many users ,which i think i have not created,. So, I deleted all the users and something went wrong now as I lost access to the whole folder of windows, Folder C.I am logged in as an administrator but still i don't have access to anything. I can't manage accounts, I can't create new accounts and I am really confused .

Jan 9, 2011In Win 7 Home Premium, I apparently did something wrong as I can no longer access the administrator account on my desktop. I am logged in as a guest and have tried just about everything suggested here. I have started in Safe Mode but can't access admin. I have used the installation disk to do a repair and used the activate command in the command prompt. I used the "enableadmin" mentioned on this site. Regardless of what I do here, when I restart I am back in Windows as a Guest. Even doing a system restore made no difference.
It would appear I have to do a clean install but before doing so thought I would ask to see if there is anything else

Nov 26, 2011Many times I have seen the "Access Denied" error while using an administrator account.Especially in disk management utility when I tried to edit disk partitions but couldn't even with administrator privileges.This is not a specific case - I just want to know how, even with administrator privileges, there are still restrictions (access, modify or change)And what can I do to bypass those restrictions?

Aug 4, 2011So I am using Windows 7 and I made an account for my nephew so he can use without nagging me about entering in a password. But I wanted to make it so that he cannot download anything or edit any files on the C: Drive without a admin password. I changed the security settings on C: so that it will not allow anyone who is not Admin to access any files in the C: folder. My problem is that it locked everyone out of C: ... Any UAC settings or account settings cant be done.
My account is an admin and anytime it try to access anything or run anything as administrator, It says Access Denied. (BTW I never get a prompt to put in an admin password). So I went on safe mode and made it so that the Built in admin would show and I logged on it. I opened an elevated cmd and tried to change the uac settings.. but all I get is an Access Denied! I don't know what to do and I do not want to have to reset the whole computer. I cannot use system restore because it says access denied.

Feb 23, 2012How do i access the already built-in administrator account so i can make security/privilege changes so that i can change time servers using the command linebecause every time i use the NET TIME command it gives me a "access denied" error; which tells me something, only Im not sure what needs to be changed. Sep 11, 2012I need to restrict internet access to windows 7 administrator account. JUDGE ORDERED THIS. PROBATION OFFICER NEEDS TO BE SHOWN. I have a computer savvy kid. Is there any foolproof way to do this? I changed my security network key. Somehow he figured it out. It is becoming a "You can't limit my access" power stuggle even though the stakes are high. He needs his computer for homework and writing assignments or I would just take it away.

Oct 31, 2011I am using Windows 7 Pro 64x and apparently the default user account (Owner) that I use is not working correctly. Unless I have UAC set to Never Notify, I cannot open Control Panel or UAC again. I have created a second user account as Administrator and it works correctly.

Nov 5, 2009I work at a company in the UK which is attempting to start rolling out Windows 7 to all computers (early adopters and all that, it's just a lot easier than the current mishmash of OSes we have!). One of the 4 users migrated so far is having an odd issue with her wired network (her network controller is a "Broadcom Netlink Gigabit Ethernet"). She's the only person not from the IT dept or the MD of the company to be moved across, so we set her up as a non-administrator to avoid problematic software etc etc.
Suddenly, 3 days ago, whenever she switched on her computer, the connection would claim "Limited or No Connectivity" (even though she appeared to be connected to the Domain), and there was no Internet access. Having played around with numerous things (driver updates, both from Broadcom and HP - the laptop manufacturer, being the main one), I found the only way to get it working again was to disable and re-enable the network controller. The problem with this is that it required a UAC authorization (even though I'd set UAC to never notify), and that requires a domain administrator password (which is a pain in the wotsit).
Anyway, I figured, reluctantly, that if I set her account up as a local administrator, that at least it shouldn't require a password to reset the device. Rebooted the PC, and suddenly the wired network started working from boot without the need to reset the controller.
My question is - has anyone else had any issues with non-administrators being forced to reset their network controllers to get internet connectivity, and is there a known fix?

Feb 18, 2012I recently logged onto my account about 2 days ago to finish a project. The music file I used for the account was could not be found and when I went to locate it I was told I didn't have administrator rights. I went to Control Panel because I was sure I was an Administrator, but sure enough, I was set as a Standard User. I tried changing it up but it wouldn't change. I tried changing the account name also, and it wouldn't change. I could only change account picture. I can't open UAC, I click it and it blinks but nothing opens. I deleted any recent program installations,I booted in safe mode, however I was still not able to change my account,I tried activating the hidden administrator account but I received an "access denied" message,I tried creating a new account but I received the following message:"The specified account name is not valid, because account names contain the following characters: /[]":;|<>=+,?*Please type a different name."I didn't use any of those characters in the account name.I ran 2 different virus scans, and they came up with nothing,I turned the computer off, unplugged everything, and pressed the power button for 30 seconds, and rebooted, but still nothing!My roommate shares this computer with me, and her account is still an administrator. However she has traveled and I haven't been able to get hold of her yet. We share music files and the file I was trying to use is in her account.why my account was changed and how I can change it back?

Nov 10, 2011Last night I was on the internet at home absolutely fine and my laptop automatically downloaded an update, since then I have been unable to connect to my wi-fi. I deleted the updates and was still unable to connect, so I tried to used a system recovery restore point and every one I use starts but fails to complete.So, I did a factory reset after around 8 hours of trying to sort it out today and I STILL have the same problem. I can plug in the cable to connect and my housemate is having absolutely no issues connecting and neither is my phone so now I am at a total loss what I should do to resolve this. Prior to the factory reset I was able to connect to the wi-fi but it was stating no network access/limited access and now it simply won't connect to my internet at all. It finds my full strength signal but will not connect.My drivers for the Broadcom 4313 802.11b/g/n card are the most up to date and the laptop (HP G62) says it is working fine.

Jan 21, 2011So I am very familiar with windows 7 and stuff, and for obvious security reasons I don't want to use a an administrator account just to browse the net and do day to day activities like most people do and then wonder why they have malware. So I have installed some software from the administrator account that was originally created during install and then I changed that account to a standard user account and created a separate administrator privileged account named admin. All should be good right? When windows starts up now in the standard user account that I want to use most of the time I need to use my password for certain startup programs like core temp i.e. you have to verify you want to them to run using the administrative password. What if I don't want to do this? I just want them to run without the password? I tried going in and changing the permissions to allow full control for authenticated users and my standard user account but it still asks for a password on log on.

- Disable, then enable my wireless card and reconnect.
- Uninstall the card, then re-install and reconnect.
- Disconnect from the internet myself and reconnect.
Either way it gets super frustrating. There is 1 other computer plugged directly into the router that does not experience any issues. In addition, I have 1 laptop (windows 7) that works great and 1 laptop (Windows XP) which works great.

Jan 16, 2013Have windows 7 os and have a problem connecting to certain websites e.g. google, hotmail etc but otherwise can surf the net. Tried diagnosing problem and the message came up "your dns server might be unavailable." I have tried troubleshooting from online advice - resetting the router, restarting everything, tried resetting the dns cache and changing the ip address but that just lead to an ip conflict.

Aug 29, 2011I'm in need of some serious help here. Working with a Dell Inspiron 1750 laptop that's running windows 7. The machine can not get full access to the Internet. It seems as if there is a software conflict, but I can't find what it is. It did display the BSOD a couple of times, but the screen was gone before I could see what the codes were. The system restore only has 2 days of restore points, neither did anything to help.Running the diagnostics produced the following codes. 0f00:0232, 968634624, 0x490, 0x8007042c, 2000-0151.All repair options suggest patches that require an Internet connection. Well...if the computer had an Internet connection I wouldn't be in such a state. Reminds me of the car repair manual that says to start the engine to preform a test when the problem is the engine won't start.Anyway, I'm at a loss. This isn't even my machine, it belongs to the sister in-law, which means I have no idea of what she may have done, if anything, to cause the problem.There's a lot of Apple software for the ipod, or itouch, whatever it is she uses.I can't access the recent update history, so I'm not sure if updates are a factor.It sure seems like a software issue, but what do I know? If I knew what I was doing...I surely wouldn't be here seeking help.One other thing, when the machine is first booting, a window of some sort appears just after the desktop appears. It only flashes for a split second before disappearing. Not long enough to tell what it is.Well that's all I have, I sure hope that someone has an idea. The computer isn't even 2 years old, so it'd a shame to have to throw it away. As far as programs goes, it has very little, and the 500GB HD isn't even 25% filled.
