Recycle Bin Image Gone But Functional?

Jan 11, 2011

On my desktop, the IMAGE for the recycle bin has disappeared! The text for the icon is showing as normal and I can drag items to the space above the words "Recycle Bin" and then right-click that space to empty it, but no image of it.

So I decided to create a shortcut to the recycle bin on my desktop (through 'create shortcut' button). The icon then appeared BUT only on the shortcut, not the orginal.

Onscreen Keyboard Not Functional?

Feb 12, 2011

how to use the onscreen keyboard. There are a lot of articles that just explain how to start it, but not how to use it.I know how to access it. And it works when I enter letters in the search box of my browser. However, that's all it does. When I use it with a word processor, the keys do not respond. Strange. Also, when i click on alt+(number) on the numeric pad (which works perfect on a regular keyboard), it does not work at all. Don't get me wrong: it's not that I want to type a whole document with it. It should work, but it does not.

Motherboard USB Ports Non Functional But Have Power

Dec 21, 2011

The system is built around an Intel Dual Core processor, Asus P5K motherboard running 4gb DDR 2 RAM and an ATI Radeon graphics card. I installed a new copy of Windows 7 Ultimate on a recently formatted hard drive and added and an extra PCI 4 port USB card. My issue is that all of the 6 motherboard USB ports are powered (I can charge my phone from each one) but do not recognise any device plugged into them. Have tried keyboard, mouse, usb drive, camera and so on. Windows doesn't blink when anything is plugged in. When I plug a device into one of the 4 ports on my PCI USB card it installs new device and is working perfectly with absolutely no issues. I have done the following:

- Removed power cable and small lithium MBoard battery overnight,
- Flashed the bios several times upto and including the lastest version,
- Checked that USB is enabled in all BIOS settings,
- Downloaded and installed the latest Chipset drivers,
- Checked that Device Manager correctly sees all the USB ports and drivers. Everything is displayed with no errors or flags.
- Deleted and reinstalled all USB components.
- Windows is fully updated including the language packs.

With my 4 port USB card working perfectly am I to assume I have a biffed motherboard? I just cant understand that as they have power and are recognised in Device manager. And were working perfectly with Windows XP Pro installed previously.

Does Windows 7 Back Up A Functional Set Of Applications

Nov 15, 2012

Win 7 Back reads:Windows Backup won't back up the following items:Program files (files that define themselves as part of a program in the registry when the program is installed). Does that mean that the applications contained in the folder Program files will not be backed up ready for a restore when there is a system crash?I want to make a system image for restoring my operating system which will be located on C with applications.

Realtek HD Audio System Not Fully Functional?

Feb 18, 2012

After a reinstall of Windows 7 I got this confusing onboard sound system working after a struggle, but it is no longer able to record streaming audio as it did before; there appears to be no stereo mixer/what-you-hear etc.Windows insists the drivers are up-to-date. During several attempts to get it working, I found at least two different configurations: The first offered a confusing number of line-in and line-out options, the second configuration was a straightforward Line-In/Line-Out/Mic setup - but no stereo mixer.

Know If Updates Are Current In Windows 7?

Mar 12, 2012

I had done a large number of System Restores recently, then a complete re-installation of Windows 7 via the Toshiba software partitioned in my laptop. I had updates waiting to be installed before that and I'm also worried whether the ones previously installed were picked up automatically. Now I'm not sure how to proceed.

I just did some reading and found out how important the updates are security-wise. Previously I had thought they they were more or less optional.

Upgrading HDD With Current Windows 7 Image

Aug 10, 2012

I've tried all the methods I can find, and I'm not so strong with boot files or images in general.

I have an image of my current system, created last night ( created in windows 7 from the "Ctrl Panel> Recovery>Create a system image" option) stored on my external 1.5Tb drive. It is stored in the "WindowsImageBackup" folder that was created and contains two .vhd files. one is obviously the image at 39Gb)

With my system running (Win7 Home Premium) I want to install this image onto a new, larger HDD and then replace my current drive ( 80Gb ) with the new, larger drive (320Gb ).

I simply want to copy the image from my external 1.5Tb drive to a "New" 320Gb drive (connected to my system via a USB2.0 to IDE and SATA cables that I use for backing up people's files and things from crashed machines) The "new" drive shows up in "Disk Manager" as "E", healthy partition, formatted, etc.

Is there a way to install my backed up image to my 320Gb external drive, THEN open my desktop pc, and replace my current 80 Gb drive with the 320Gb drive (already imaged and bootable as if nothing changed except the size of the drive) ?
Also, do I need to delete the partitions on the "new" 320Gb drive so that it shows up as unallocated space?

Is It Possible To Make A F10 Or Similar Backup Of Current OS?

I ask if its possibly to make a F10 backup of my current drive so that should something go "pear shaped" then the option to restore my PC would be there. There is currently a hidden partition on my laptop with recovery software on it however as I resised the partition on the C drive this somehow "broke" the recovery software and is apparently a well know issue with Lenovo and their onekey recovery software.

Electric Current Felt Over PC Case

Aug 30, 2012

I moved recently to a new place, and hooked up my desktop PC. However, for some reason, there now seems to be a faint electric current running over my PC case. If I press my finger against the metal case, I can feel a tingling sensation which becomes painful if I hold my finger against it for too long. I've never had this problem before. I tried Googling my problem, and only found this thread: [Solved] Electric current felt all over the case - Power-Supplies-PC-Cases-Case-Mods - CPU-Components, I seem to be having the same problem as him. I also have the same case (Cooler Master nVidia edition chassis). Does this have something to do with my case not being properly "grounded"?

Possible To Install Windows 7 With All The Current Updates?

May 2, 2012

For one reason or another I am frequently installing a fresh copy of Windows 7 onto my hard drive. I use a lot of software so as things get installed and uninstalled bad things tend to happen and sometimes things are beyond repair. My question is can I use my product key to download from someplace an image of Windows 7 with all the updates already installed? Installing the updates becomes very time consuming and the machine has to be restarted many times over so I am trying to avoid this. I suppose I could disable the updates but that is not really my intent at this time.

Unable To Display Current Owner?

Why Doesn't Windows 7 See Current Raid 1

Jun 27, 2012

I had an existing properly working system consisting of a SSD 64GB for my OS and a Raid1 config with two 1TB drives for data. My SSD ended up being to small as certain programs do not let me remap content to a separate drive. I have upgraded (swapped out) to a 240GB SSD reinstalled windows on it and windows does not see my raid1 in disk management, nor does it see my two monitors or my connection to my router. It was my understanding I could just swap out the SSD's and reinstall windows and it would see everything.
