Aero Lags For Quick Second When Closing Window?

Nov 7, 2009

I'm running an original Windows 7 (I preordered it) and I've updated all graphic drivers, but whenever I want to close a window, Windows Aero lags for a quick second and closes the window, however whenever I minimize a window, it closes down nicely with the effect. Why is this occurring?

My PC Specs:
Windows 7 Home Premium 32bit
3.5GB Ram
Intel Core 2 Duo 2.20GHz
NVIDIA 8400 GS 512MB DDR2

I've updated everything, it gets annoying when it lags when it closes.

Window Screen Opening And Closing At Startup Instantly

Sep 16, 2010

I have two computers that have win 7 x64 pro/ult. Recently, both computers, after typing in my poassword for login to windows, I get the desktop, icons, the hardware meter gadgets, then a windows pops up, near the top left corner, about a 1/6 of the screen size, and it immediately closes. It isn't there long enough for me to read anything in it, or even see if there is anything in it. Under start-up folder in the start menu, both computers do have logitech registration.

I click it, fill it out, and re start the computer. Still happens, and the start up folder still has logitech's product registration there. I complete it, restart the computer, and the window still shows up, then closes. Damn near instantly. Under start-up, the logitech thing is gone, so it is blank. But it still happens. Installing the webcam and using it for Logitech Vid, is the only thing I have changed recently on both computers. Also, windows 7 did have an update. I have no idea what to look for in regedit.

Slow Motion Effect When Opening / Closing Programs

May 4, 2011

A person who works from home brought his laptop in today as he was having issues printing. We have the same printer here so I hooked it up as he would do and got rid of his problem (a print job stuck in the queue! He has just called me and says that now he is back at home, his printer works fine but when opening or closing programs it goes in what he describes as 'slow motion'. He likened it to the same effect as when you switch on the trail for the mouse pointer. I haven't done anything which would affect things to my knowledge as I didn't install any updates / drivers / software etc.

Screen Stays Dark After Closing And Opening Lid Of Computer?

Dec 29, 2011

If I let the computer sit unused, the screen goes black, as most monitors would; however, the screen stays dark when I move the mouse or hit buttons or something. Similarly, if I close the lid of my laptop when its turned on, and then open the lid, the screen stays black. Not only that, but when I closed the lid of the laptop, the computer never turned off. It was still running.I reset the power options to default as well, so there is nothing wrong there. Perhaps I should also mention that the screen successfully turns off and on in safe mode?

edit: Just tried a system restore to two weeks ago and the system crashed. Both times.

SiS671 Mirage3 - NO AERO But W/o Drivers = AERO

Oct 18, 2009

I am currently looking a way to enable Aero in my machine. (as note, currently I am missing the Aero Glass, Aero Peek, and Aero Flip.

I did a clean install of Windows 7 on the machine. Because my screen is WideScreen, at first the graphics are all large and mushy. But at this point I HAVE AERO!

Then, I installed the driver for the gfx card, which was SIS UniVGA3 v.3.85. After installing and restarting, I get the normal resolution (1280x800) but NO AERO.

I thought this was driver problem, so I downloaded UniVGA5 v5.07, UniVGA5 v5.20 (which is the driver for Windows7, according to the site), and the SiS driver update from Windows Update, all of which didn't enable Aero for me.

I am completely stumped on this. I just don't get why the heck I get Aero WITHOUT driver, but no Aero with drivers.

Windows 7 - IE 9 Tab Closing Causes Crash

May 20, 2012

I just got a new HP laptop running Intel Core i7 and Windows 7 Home Premium. I'm also using IE 9. A lot of times when I have a tab open in IE9, and open a new tab, either by clicking on the new tab, or a link inside the current page opens the new tab when I click it - when I'm done with what I needed and go to close the new tab, I get an error message 'Internet Explorer Has Stopped Working' IE freezes until I close the error window. It doesn't happen every time a new tab is opened - I just can't narrow it down to what is actually causing it.

Low Memory / Windows 7 Closing Programs

Jan 15, 2013

Relative info: I have 8GB RAM, 64-bit OS

Earlier I tried playing some Minecraft and noticed I would stop moving every 5-10 seconds, MC would freeze and then regain control after a couple seconds, then this behaviour would loop. I had Resource Manager open to the side and noticed C:pagefile.sys taking between 10-90MB/s HDD usage. I used the Crystal program thingy a couple months back and I think my HDDs had about 85MB/s Read/write. So obviously there's my problem.

Found out how to disable the pagefile.sys, and did that just fine. Now I'm getting some silly warning saying my memory is low ect ect. I have 8GB RAM and have 4 of those dedicated to MC in it's settings because I pretty much always have at least 5GB free, even when I have all my browser tabs/other programs open. I heard that this warning appears when you're at 75% used RAM or something, which is silly with PC's nowadays. Is there any way I can go about disabling this super awesome function?

Is It Possible To Receive A Corrupted Copy Of Windows

Feb 4, 2013

The PC in question is a Dell OptiPlex 580 which came with an OEM installation of Windows 7 Pro x64.Is it possible to purchase a bad copy of Windows? What exactly do I mean by bad copy? I'm not talking about a pirated copy with a fake license. I mean, is it possible the copy of Windows that came installed on my system is damaged, corrupt, or incomplete? All the data on the OEM disc was transferred from somewhere, from something. When the manufacturer created this disc, is it possible that something went wrong? Why do I want to know? Well, here is my story:About two years ago I purchased a brand new PC from Dell. I noticed within the first week or so, practically right out of the box, the PC crashed and displayed a BSOD. The PC crashed again about a week later. I was a little concerned when I saw the first crash, but the second got my attention for sure. However, every time I tried investigating an error code, the probable cause was always vague. I couldn't find anything that pointed to that one silver bullet fix.I looked for answers everywhere, often on boards such as this one. The fixes suggested to me were numerous, well thought out, but all too often varied. It's the hardware! I's the software! It's a third party driver! It's Windows! Whatever the suggestion, I tried it, but nothing worked.I am not a computer expert, guru, or whiz of any kind. I'm just a guy that has been able to troubleshoot or fix numerous issues over the years with the assistance of great people who contribute to forums like this one. But in regards to this particular issue, no matter what I have looked for, no matter what test I have used, I have never been able to identify the cause of these BSOD, nor have I been able to prevent them from continuing. Here are a few things I can tell you about this PC. I don't have any weird/uncommon software installed (just your basic things like Office, Acrobat, etc.). I'm not overclocking anything. I've checked the power supply and it is fully functional. I have run more memory tests then I care to remember. I've scanned for malware over and over again. I have run diagnostics to check for damage on the hard drive. I've uninstalled and reinstalled drivers. I've run stress tests on the drivers trying to force a crash. I physically removed a graphics card that I thought might be the issue, never plugging it back in. I've opened up the PC and reseated everything. I've kept the insides clean. I've checked the temperature inside the machine. But in two years of working on this computer, I have never found a single hardware defect with this system. And not one single tweak I have made to it has kept it from crashing. Even when I reformatted the hard drive and did a full reinstallation of Windows, which was the recommendation of Dell's paid software support team, the PC quickly went back to more BSOD. If someone told me they reinstalled Windows on their system but it kept crashing, I would probably assume there was a hardware issue too. But again, I have searched and searched for evidence that the hardware is broken, but cannot find anything. All of this makes me wonder; maybe the PC arrived with the problem. Perhaps the OS was initially installed with a bad copy of Windows? Maybe when used that same disc to reinstall the OS, I just put the same problem back into the computer. It has been suggested to me that I conduct a Repair Install of Windows to fix some issues I discovered. Recently I ran the sfc/ scannow command and received a message stating that there were corrupt sectors that could not be repaired. But I am afraid to try to fix it with the OEM CD. This is the same CD that failed to fix the issue when I did a full install. Is it possible that if I use this same disc again that I could be replacing the same corrupt system files all over again?I am curious to hear feedback from others. Have any of you had an experience like this one? Is it possible that the OEM CD I received is damaged?

Can't Install Windows 7 32 Bit - Receive BSOD

May 6, 2012

My friend recently installed windows 7 ultimate 32 bit on his laptop, everything went perfect and is running fine.

He then decided to also upgrade his desktop, he had successfully installed it and was able to get to the log in screen without any problems, once typing in his password and logging into to windows, the screen would flicker and go black and blue and sometimes the pc would shut itself off. The error which we could make out before the screen went off was 'Kernel driver has stopEd responding.' something to that effect, I can't remember the exact message. But we managed to figure it was an issue with the nvidia drivers, as it seems to be a wide spread problem with nvidia GeForce cards (my friend has a 8600gt). Now since then we decided to format the hard drive and perform a fresh install of windows 7. Now this wer things get interesting.

We booted from CD and ran the windows 7 installation, when the screen comes up to ask which partition/hard drive you want to install on, we formatted the hard drive on this screen and then tried to perform an installation, the installation started, but stopped at some point and we received a blue screen, now weneva we attempt to boot from cd, the windows installations files are loaded and the windows starting logo is displayed, but then we receive the BSOD.

I cannot provide you with any dump files as there is not operating system, but I have taken a picture of the BSOD that we receiving.

System specs:

Biostar Tforce 965PT
Nvidia GeForce 8600GT 512mb

Receive A Corrupted Version Of Windows?

Windows 7, Closing Laptop Lid Causes Volume To Automatically Reduce?

Aug 14, 2011

Just having a weird problem with Windows 7. When I am using earphones or my laptop speakers and then I close the lid on my laptop, it causes a great reduction in the volume of the sound output automatically. While the laptop lid is still open, the volume on all programs remains normal. However, when I close my laptop lid, it seems Windows automatically reduces the volume.Let's say I put the volume on my laptop to 40/100 units in the sound mixer. All programs I am using are set to use the volume the sound output device is using, so everything else is also at 40/100 units, including Media Player Classic.I am usually using Media Player Classic to play some FLAC music. I usually have earphones connected, but this issue recurs without them as well.

When I close my laptop, in about 2 seconds the sound volume will automatically reduce to 5/100 units in the Volume Mixer in the taskbar. This sound reduction also only applies to the program I am currently using to play music (e.g. MPC or iTunes, the two which I've tried so far). After re-opening my laptop, I check the Volume Mixer and it shows only MPC or iTunes sound output is reduced. The system device speakers will still be at 40/100 units volume.his is really frustrating, because I like to turn on some music,

[WiFi] Windows Did Not Receive Any Response From The Wireless Router

Jun 19, 2012

I have a D-Link DIR615 router which I've been using for the past 5 months (no problems whatsoever). After i've got my laptop from the support service I can't seem to successfully connect to my home network.

My phone can connect with no problem to my router. My laptop sees other wireless networks. This is how it goes: when I try to connect it immediately says "unable to connect" when I run the diagnostics I get the "windows did not receive any response from the wireless router" message. I can only connect after like 30 mins of changing the wireless settings (usually SSID and security) from my router + rebooting it countless times. Even then, I usually check "automatically connect" and the next day after I arrive from work, it doesn't really connect automatically and can't even connect to it (unable to connect message). Even typing a wrong passphrase when it's secured it doesn't say "wrong passphrase" but "unable to connect".

Another very wierd thing is that my wireless network disappears from the network list after a few minutes, I still see other secured wireless networks.

I can connect to a wireless network made by phone (wifi hotspot) with no problems.
