I have all the Doom, Quake, Unreal etc. games that I would like to play again. I have plenty of removable hard drives and DOS 6.22 which might not even work but the oldest OS I have is ME so how I can play these old DOS and 3.1 windows games?
View 3 Repliesi am running windows7 ultimate x64 but my problem is,that when i run doom3,it does not come in full screen,it has 1inch border left from both left side and right side...it does never come on full screen.i even changed option to use high resolution,full screen but it didn't solve problem,then somewhere on net i read,hit alt+enter,i did this too.but still problem didn't solve.
i am using dell studio laptop 1737,and it has intel GMA 4500MHD vga,i hav downloaded the driver which is latest for it even for windows 7 (from dell...i couldn't find it on intel)
lately i installed NFS most wanted,then NFS carbon..both had same problem as doom3.they are not using full screen.but in my intel vga properties,it says that it is using full screen.i have attached the image of my vga panel.
Firstly let me state that I know nothing about the inner workings of a PC although I consider myself to very familiar with using PCs.I have had to renew my PC hard drive as my 26month old one crashed. I now have a Dell Inspiron and to my dismay after it was set up and all files restored from my back up disk and I was ready to have a little time playing Solitaire - boring I know for all you gamers - but I like it. No preloaded games are available. The games folder is there but it is empty.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'd hang on the windows 7 logo as it flies up (it freezes on the colored balls) and then it goes to a blue screen, hinting at hardware-related problems. After a restart or two, I am usually able to make it to the desktop like normal. I just took this easy route, assuming that ignoring it would make it go away.Well, this morning, it happened again, but then when it made it passed the windows7 logo, I got to a black screen with just my mouse. This is a common enough problem- plenty of complaints and advice out there. When I try running safe mode, it hangs on AVG-named drivers. So i went and deleted them all through a thumbdrive linux boot (Can't I just reinstall AVG or another program once my comp is working?) but now it hangs on a new driver so I stopped deleting them. CLASSPNP.sys, which is another hugely common problem. Safe mode is out.Put my digital copy of Windows 7 on another thumb drive and booted to that to try and use recovery mode. No recovery images, memory check didn't yell at me, chkdsk seemed to run fine (unless running it in the X or "boot" drive is wrong and I have to figure out how to navigate to the C or D drive in cmd ...but even then, what do I do with the result of chkdsk, especially when it will probably show no problems?) so I THINK recovery tools are out, unless I failed to use them correctly.So now I'm faced with re-installing windows, in which case I have no idea what my activation key is, being that it was a digital copy and I don't have the student access to where I originally downloaded it.
TL;DR:
1) Can I find my win7 activation key with a key-finding/decrypting program while using my linux boot?
2) I've read that my GPU (nvidia 460) or even PSU (Corsair 650) could be to blame- are there ways to troubleshoot/verify that if I don't have other parts to replace them with?
I've noticed on newer games that when I tap the "Windows" key on my keyboard, I can't get back to my Desktop. This is a bit of an irksome problem for me... I'd like to monitor some things in my Task Manager from time to time and can't do this without being able to get that Windows key to function properly (don't want to buy FRAPS etc because I don't mind exiting the game keeping it running to do it the good old fashioned way for free, when I can get it to work like that). I've tried Ctrl+Alt+Del, pulled up Task Manager, but when I'm done and it does launch that in my Desktop, I then am unable to get these games to launch back up when I'm done checking CPU/RAM and temperatures (so far this is going on with Fallout 3 and Skyrim; Sims 3 and Oblivion etc. are unaffected) how I can use my Notebook's screen to look at other things online and etc. while gaming on my external 23" Monitor. I haven't quite worked that out yet and I'd really like to stop using my old Desktop to do that (it's slow, dying and redundant in addition to a waste of electricity to be doing that).

Each time I have to eject the disc, then insert it and do the entire process a lot of times for the CD/DVD to be read.This problem has irritated me for a while now. There are many games which need the CD/DVD to be inserted, and each time when I change the discs, it takes away at least 5-6 minutes.Is there a way by which I can back up the discs in my HDD and play the games without inserting each CD/DVD every time? And the problem is DVD specific. For instance, the DVD of Ashes Cricket 09 is read in 2-3 attempts but that of NBA 2K11 takes at least 7-8 attempts for the laptop to read the disc. Is it a problem with my laptop or the DVDs? And I tried installing Alcohol 120% and Daemon Tools, but the installation process keeps on asking me to reboot. After a reboot, it gives the same message.I read somewhere that there are some issues of SPTD drivers on Windows 7 but couldn't really find a solution to it.

My computer has been doing this for awhile...I've had it for over 4 years and it works fine but it seems like lately my computer will freeze for a second and then it makes a suddle click sound then it comes back...Computer is not making loud noises or anything but when it freezes it sounds like it is switching gears before it works like normal again.Someone told me Memory issue and I have Memtest but not sure how to use the ISO.

I am having an issue with my laptop.It keeps starting back all the time and I have windows 7 ultimate 32 bit. I can't have access to safe mode, when I try safe boot repair it won't work either. When I try to start back from the last time it was ok, don't work either. I tried downloading something named AVG rescue cd and it doesn't seem to work either....my computer doesn't seem to wanna read CD's or DVD's.

View 9 Replies View Relatedso everytime I log-in to my computer it basically restores back to a certian point.And also It starts as a black screen with nothing except for my mouse until I open Task manager and run explorer.exe which for some reason doesnt run on its own anymore. Its probably due to the fact that I wanted to put a cool theme on my computer and that involves replacing the explorer.exe file and explorerframe.dll file, and I did that. But then I decided I didn't need a theme so I put the original Explorer.exe and explorerframe.dll back on to replace the ones I put on before. It changed everything back to normal except for the start orb. I wanted the old start back or atleast a new one. So I got windows Start orb changer. It worked well for some time until at one point everytime I turned on my computer I got an error saying expstart.exe failed and something about bitmaps. and It just black screens until I run explorer.exe from the task manager...and goes back a day or so

I have always liked the Hibernate feature and used it extensively when I was running Windows Vista Ultimate. Since installing Windows 7, whenever I run Hibernate the computer turns back on. When I used Hibernate in Windows Vista Ultimate I knew that the programs that I left open would be where I left off when I restarted the computer from Hibernate. Now, it just seems to turn on when it wants to. I am sure it is a setting in the Power Settings category in Control Panel. I'm just not sure how to set.

View 4 Replies View RelatedFirst off, I'd like to say that this isn't an overheating issue, because I am able to play Computer intensive games (like Star Craft II) for 4+ hours with no problems, but I can't play certain games for longer than 15-20 minutes. So far it has only happened to me with 3 games:
1. Halo Combat Evolved
2. Assassin's Creed II
3. Brink
If it was only Halo, which is an older game, my guess would be that it is a driver/compatibility issue. But when it happened with Assassin's Creed II and Brink, it totally baffled me as to what could be the problem. Before they shut down, They usually freeze for a second and then the screen goes black and then shuts down(without restart). Brink had the odd case of having it go a bit laggy, and the textures being blurry(not loaded properly) and then freezing>shutdown.because its making me feel insecure as to whether I should get other games, because I'm afraid my laptop will turn off, and I won't be able to play it properly.Oh I'd also like to say that after a shutdown, CS : S gets very buggy for a bit, and then returns to normal, I haven't noticed it on any other games happening though.
I am going to buy a Windows 7 laptop, but I have had experience with Windows 7 and personally hate it, so when I get this laptop I want to revert back to Vista operating system... How do I do it? Can the Vista be downloaded from Microsoft's website, or do I need to buy Vista in a CD?
