View 1 Replies View RelatedMy family's desktop has reset back to factory settings seemingly by itself. This has happened before but I was able to do a system restore and bring back all the settings, files, and programs. I tried the same thing today but the restore failed (it still failed after I followed its advice to turn the anti-virus off and then run restore) so I've got a large amount of files (pictures, music, documents) missing that I am hoping are still on the hard drive somewhere.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI bought a computer on craigslist a while back and it's been working great and all but lately it started slowing down really badly. I play WoW and Skyrim mostly. I used to be able to play at 60 fps or so now I can drop from 30-15 fps. I considered doing a system restore but there weren't any restore points because there weren't any being created every week or so for some reason. So really the only option I have now is to completely restore my computer to it's original settings. When I first bought the computer the guy who sold it to me told me that he'd wiped the hard drives clean and that's what I'm trying to do right now but he never gave me a back up disk or a disk for the OS which is what I'm really worried about. He had windows 7 ultimate installed. I'm afraid that if I try to do a factory reset that I won't have an OS to reinstall onto my computer.
These are my specs if they matter any.

I have a pc and recently it just kept throwing up BSOD with error "8E" after a factory reset with OEM partiton 30 seconds into loading windows and BSOD again. so I deleted vista and reinstalled 7 ultimate N. but left the OEM partition intact, which now runs smooth and all grand. what I was seeing was how or can I now go back into the OEM partiton and load the original OS back to vista to see if it blue screens again. do I have to install vista off a CD and then 'repair' after I have reinstalled to get to the OEM boot menu . when I loaded and put back to factory first time below 'command prompt' in "system recovery options" I had a Packard bell option to go to factory settings?

When I bought it I burned DVD's for the Recovery Disks. I have never used them UNTIL now.She was getting a message that it was NOT a Genuine copy, but it is.I figured that if I restored the laptop with the original DVD's that it would fix the problem.I loaded the recovery Disks On the last Disk it gave me this:Recovery Manager could not restore your computer using the factory image-Please contact HP support,Error Code:0xe0f00013.I tried restarting laptop and it said BOOTMGR is missing .Press ctrl+ALT+DEL to restart. I called HP and ordered the operating system. When it arrived I loaded the DVD's BUT on the last Disk it gave me the same ERROR.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI need to restore my laptop to default settings with no CD or backup. I had a problem with my CD key beforehand when trying to activate my Windows 7 Home Premium, saying it was invalid - which by the way is preinstalled by Asus (the manufacturer). The CD key on the bottom of my laptop was apparently invalid. I didn't really have the time to phone up Microsoft and sort that out so left it. Also I did not think (stupidly) to back up my files. How do I go about doing this restore? I have some games installed too - Battlefield 3 (I have the disc), Crysis 2 (direct download from EA), Skyrim (disc) and Dead Space (Steam). Will these games be reinstallable - Crysis 2 in particular, as it said something about backing up the files for the game after downoading it from EA (I again didn't sigh). Will they just let me redownload it? Also will the CD keys still work? Also how do I back up the saves for Crysis 2?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have taken many computers back to factory condition and never had any problems. This time, after backing up all my files to disc (15), in total, I have taken this HP laptop back to factory condition. There is no problem there. The restore is fine but I cant seem to load the discs I created. I have turned off the laptop completely, as directed and started it again with the alt f10 keys, which should automatically load my back up but nothing is happening and if I try to open the discs on their own, I get an error message saying that the path isn't there. I have already re-installed my various purchased software but it is the photos and personal files that I particularly want to get back. I have my own photos safely in a box but these photos belonged to someone else

When I get to disc 2 nothing happens at all. I do have an external hard drive. I was considering trying to copy the System back up discs from a different computer onto the external and then trying to do the system restore.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI am trying to setup a Win7 Pro PC backup so that the primary user does not have any admin rights. Setup Standard user login and then another separate login for file backups.
Created a new login called Backup1, and assigned this User Account to the Backup Operators Group, and Users Group. Rebooted, and logged in as Backup1. Attempted to run Backup.
I'm expieriencing a problem I can't fix.
There raises a flag that I have to make a Backup. I thought and read this is a well worked out function in Windows 7, let's try !
But as you expect and the reason why I'm here, there is a difficulty.
The function wants to backup 2 hard drives (C: and H:) and I can't uncheck H:. C: is my windows disk and H: is my disk where I keep movies and stuff . I don't want to backup H: . I only want to back up C:!
What I read on several places is that Windows 7 Automatically selects the drivers which contains System files (in the back up function he calls H: a system disk). In Disk Management it also says Disk H: System/Active/Primary Partition.
I am for sure I installed Windows 7 on C:. I didn't do anything on H:.
Also an other thing I found out is that MSE uses the biggest drive for downloading updates and installing the updates (use it as source). But I don't know if that is the reason it is called a system disk.
I want to make my backup this way, how can I only make a backup of C:
