Followed all instructions in BSOD posting. Running retail Windows 7 x64 Ultimate SP1 with all latest updates. Age of system and OS is 3 months old.
Before the BSOD I've noticed symptoms whenever I play Battlefield 3. The system keeps asking me if I want to use Windows Basic Theme and said my system was out of memory, which I think is not possible since I have 2GB of video RAM and 8GB of system RAM.
I do not install anything unnecessary on my system other than things I need and know I will use. I run weekly full system images using Acronis TIH 2010 (build 7160)
Is there a way I can open and view the BSOD's error code? I forgot to take a picture when it BSOD'ed on me.
I have Windows 7 64-bit and Firefox as my browser. I cannot preview .pdf documents in Windows explorer. Does anyone know how to get around this?(I don't have Adobe Reader, just Adobe Acrobat, v.8.2.6)Florio
I'm using windows 7 home premium on an asus laptop. Whenever I use windows explorer to look at files it'll crash. It starts to crash much quicker when I am copying documents. It closes itself down the restarts fine. I have done a SFC /scannow which shows that only the Chinese mandarin language pack is corrupt.
I have also wiped the hard drive before which solved the problem, it then came back so I have just wiped the hard drive again. This time it has not fixed the problem. I am thinking of upgrading to Windows 8 while it is on offer but wanted to get my laptop fixed before I upgraded it, alternately will installing Windows 8 fix the problem completely because it is a brand new OS?
Since last Tuesday's Microsoft Windows Update, my Windows Explorer is experiencing a number of issues. The update hung for hours on "preparing to update" or some such thing.I had to manually shut the computer off several times and finally tried the safe mode start, which warned me that the update was not fully done. Now, when I click on Favorites/My Documents, it hangs; like it is searching but when the shaded bar gets to the end, it stays there and Explorer freezes. When I click on any the window, it goes whitish and a message pops up asking if I want to continue waiting or should the program be closed. I shut the program down.If I click any other item on Favorites or Libraries, even Documents within Libraries, Explorer does ok.
When I try to save a file in Photoshop or Dreamweaver or any other program, a message pops up saying the program failed to respond and gives me the option to wait or close the program.Even if I try to print to PDF, it does the same thing. In other words any time I need to save any item from within any program, the programs freeze. I even changed the save folder in PDF Phantom, from documents to downloads and still it won't save.My next step will probably be PC Restore and to hell with everything.
when i try to open my windows explorer to view the documents....it displays 'windows explorer had stopped working' and then it shows 'windows explorer is restarting' then nothing happens..
I have been searching the internet for the past few days for answers to this problem and haven't found anything yet. Randomly in the past few days Windows 7 explorer/my documents folder/anywhere in my computer locks up and stops responding when I try to use my keyboard. No matter what I try to do, renaming documents, using ctrl-c, pressing shift, using any key on the keyboard, it locks up. I have tried running windows updates, running virus scanning, spyware scanning....nothing will work
I created a second user last night and found a few folders in My Documents for the 2nd user had come from a Users/Public folder, when they were made in My Documents of the first user. So I went into the Users folder and looked into my first user and was able to access any folder despite being in the 2nd user. In Win XP I'd be blocked from accessing that folder because the user is password protected; in Win 7 that seems to be a security flaw since I'm not blocked.
Does anybody know of any file converters out there (free if possible) that can convert ClarisWorks files to Office Word files? I have a lot of old documents that I wish to convert.
Windows Explorer ( not internet Explorer) starts up when I turn on my computer ( without my request). This just started to occur yesterday. It must be in some startup menu . Where do I look for this to remove it ?
I have a new Samsung laptop with Windows 7 Home Premium and an older desktop with XP running in it. I have a Servioo(same as Samsung file share) program running in my desktop XP which allows me to view my vid/music/photos through my Samsung BR player.I can now view my documents from my new laptop back through Servioo and on the BR player. However I cannot see anything on my laptop from my XP desktop...it shows my Servioo program but it is unable to view anything. I'm trying to view it through the Windows Media Player. Is there a way to do it? I just can't get the "door" to open. sunlaker has chosen the best answer to his/her question.Click here to view the answer that was selected.
In Libraries/Documents for example, it points to 2 REAL Folders My Documents and Public Documents, but when you click on Libraries/Documents you see files for both places and if you click on any of the files, there is no path info to let you know "At a Glance" where the file is really located. Now looking through Windows 7 Inside Out Book, they have screen shots of files in the Libraries/Documents folder with the "Full Path" under the filename in what appears to be "Content View."
My 6 year old Dell crashed. It used Windows XP. I bought a new H-P and it has Windows 7. I can't make heads or tails of the video tutorials. I bought "Windows 7, Quick Steps, and it's beyond me, too. I need a: first point cursor at.., then left-click mouse...I had to mark, "Configuration & Customization" but maybe "General Discussion" would have been better. See what I mean, I lack vocabulary.
I have a folder I use to collect files for a program. It is subordinate to My Documents. Three days ago it disappeared. It is not, however gone! I can put the path into the address line of Explorer (the files version - not the browser) and it magically appears. Also I can search and find all the files/folders in that folder individually by name with 'search'. I've set cursor on My Documents and opened >Tools>Folder Options>View and checked "Show hidden files folders and drives". I've tried this at various levels as well. I also ran a batch attrib e.g.:
@echo off Echo This script will unhide all files in the current folder and all subfolders. Echo If there are a lot of files, it may take some time to complete. Attrib -H /S /D echo Unhide Complete pause
This obviously ran for a few minutes from C:
Wierd. I can get to the files, but the folder does not show up under My Documents as it should. I've tried to recreate the folder directly subordinate to My Documents, and get a warning that the folder already exists. This is not a total loss since I can get to the folder, but would be nice to simply open My Documents, scroll down and find it.
Will the excel, word and power point dcuments created under office 97 and office 2007 now running on an xp machine contiue to work in Office 2010(64 bit) under Windows 7-(64 bit)? If not, would they work on Office 2010 (64) bit on Windows 7 Professional in XP mode? If not, would I need to have both Office 2007 and Office 2010 loaded (ie 2007 to use in XP 32 bt mode)
I had a redirect virus...uninstalled & then reinstalled windows 7 home premium. I also saved my documents. However, when I just went to open my documents, they wouldn't open because they end in .doc
A couple of years ago, I moved all the 'My' folders (e.g My Documents, My Music, Downloads, etc.) from my user account to a different drive (i.e. not the system drive). I used the Properties - Location dialog box to do this. The drive these folders was on recently crashed, and was not recoverable. I have a back up of all the files, so no worries there. What I have found though is that now a bunch of programs that I think are looking for something in those (now departed) folders are not working correctly or at all. For example, Windows Explorer no longer lists any Favorites, nor can I make more favorites. Windows Scan wont even start up, etc
i opened %userprofile% folder and found that there are 2 My Documents folders.Does windows 7 allowing same names now ?Both are exact same name, copy name paste to other has no effect as if they were named differently but not. This making me confused where user data is stored. Is this normal ?And why folders are being created when i removed them ? Folders like my pictures/videos/music ? i dont use media player/dont upload pictures or recording vides so WTF is up with that ?
I have documents created in Works 7 Database. Is there any conversion means to open them in Windows7 ? I have found a Microsoft site offering conversion software but only up to Vista.
Windows 7 will not start and I have been through the various repair and system restore processes with no success. Before doing a recovery, I have some files I would like to retrieve from the MyDocuments folder (pics, etc) but cannot find the directory from the command prompt. I have already copied some documents that were not in that folder, but I haven't been able to find the MyDocuments directory tree.
Windows 7 adds the .jpg xtension to many of my files which are for example:
Adobe InDesign files Photoshop PSD files Camera RAW files Adobe PDF file
how I can prevent Windows from doing this? I archive my files according to the program they are created in and I need to keep all my with file original xtension.
I use adobe bridge so I do not need to view the contents of my files in any Windows Explorer window.
how to make W7 explorer display the file tree the same way that XP did? The W7 way is a total mishmash, IMHO. I can't understand the directory structure. The indentation on the display is very slight and hard to see so that it is very hard to tell where a subdirectory starts and ends. It takes a long time to fill in the file structure so that after several seconds, even minutes, the display is still jumping around. There are a lot of things that I like about W7 but this is NOT one of them. I use windows explorer a lot.
I recently moved from an XP system to WIndows 7. Under XP, I could easily copy any EMail from Outlook Express to any other location on my hard drive, like My Documents. I'm now using WIndows Live under Windows 7, and see no way to do that simple thing.
I have Windows 7 64bit and downloaded some updates today and Windows 7 SP3. Since then I can't open the "My Documents" folder I had on my Desktop. I don't get any messages. It just won't open. Also on my taskbar I have a shortcut that shows my Libraries. I can access the Music and Video Libraries when this opens. But not the Documents or Photos one's. I get a click sound, but they won't open. I also can't save any picture project am I am working on in the photo's library. It just says I can't save there.
I have Office 2000 and I like it, I moved it over to my new Windows 7 laptop and moved all my Word docs over and now I can't do a thing with my word files - they are all read only.
I have a hp laptop w/ w7 64 bit and I just bought an MSI all in one pc w/ w7 32 bit. Tried the easy transfer with a flash drive and was told could not transfer 64 bit to 32 bit files . Some tips said that this could be done manually but I'm not sure what that means. Is that w/ a data line? and physicaly connecting the two computers? Do I have to do it all thru emails. I'm not trying to transfer programs, just pics, video and documents.
