Copying EMailsfrom WIndows Live To Documents Folder?
Jan 28, 2012
I recently moved from an XP system to WIndows 7. Under XP, I could easily copy any EMail from Outlook Express to any other location on my hard drive, like My Documents. I'm now using WIndows Live under Windows 7, and see no way to do that simple thing.
I'm using windows 7 home premium on an asus laptop. Whenever I use windows explorer to look at files it'll crash. It starts to crash much quicker when I am copying documents. It closes itself down the restarts fine. I have done a SFC /scannow which shows that only the Chinese mandarin language pack is corrupt.
I have also wiped the hard drive before which solved the problem, it then came back so I have just wiped the hard drive again. This time it has not fixed the problem. I am thinking of upgrading to Windows 8 while it is on offer but wanted to get my laptop fixed before I upgraded it, alternately will installing Windows 8 fix the problem completely because it is a brand new OS?
I have two laptops on my network both wireless, I also have a WD Live Hub on it too but that's hard wired into the router.
When I copy over large files to the WD box from either PC, sometimes more often than not (randomly) it will at some stage just reboot the PC, no warning nothing, Just windows restarts. I can then start the copy off again and it might work it might not.
There is no set pattern to this and its annoying that if you walk away while copying then you don't know if the copy is 100% successful because you come back and the machine is stilling there with nothing on the desktop and quite happy. Has the copy finished or has the machine restarted!?! I have to leave another window open to be 100% sure.
The second laptop is slightly different to the first in that does a BSOD memory dump when it happens and then reboots once its dumped 100% of the memory, where as the first just restarts instantly.
I don't know if anyone else is having or had this type of issue, is it because its the 64bit OS? I'm sure before when I had XP on both machines this never happened so its only since I upgraded them to 7 64bit but that was a long time ago.
I only get this issue when copying files to my WD box, the rest of the time - playing games, browsing the net, watching movies, the laptops are fine...
copying a file to a Web Folder in Windows 7.I am able to connect to the web folder and see the subfolders. I am able to copy a local folder to the web folder as well. The only I am facing is when I am trying to copy a file. I am getting the error 0x80070057(The Parameter is incorrect). I have checked with fiddler and it does not look like its a server side issue. And I have also tried stopping most of the services as I read on the net that having 'Kaspersky' enabled and running interfered with the I/O for webdav.
I am trying to copy an email with pics of my grandson from windows live mail to a usb.All I seem to be able to do is copy to the Library.I found it very easy in XP but I have just replaced the old lap top with a new one
I just did an install of W7 on a new partition. I was trying to carry my Firefox settings from XP to the new install in W7. I followed some instructions I found online and copied the Profile folder for FF and merged/replaced it with the one in W7.Now the Mozilla Profiles folder is read only, and I get an "Access Denied" message if I try to change it. I also can not "take ownership" of the folder or change any of the security options.
I am working in Windows 7 XP Mode, trying to install and run a Microsoft utility called: WT1230: Batch File Converter for PowerPoint for Windows 95. (See WT1230: Batch File Converter for PowerPoint for Windows 95). Yes, the utility is intended for Win95, but I'd like to see if I can get it running in XP Mode. The utility installation instructions ask that I copy 2 files to the "Windows/system" folder. Of course, these instructions were written for Win95, not XP, let alone XP Mode. Still... if I copy the files, the core executable runs fine, but it can't find the 2 files that should be in "Windows/System". So, I gather XP Mode must have its own Windows/System folder.
I have a folder called Mystuff on the Desktop which contains all my files. I try to copy to a folder named Backup on Drive D, but it wants to copy only files that have changed since my last copy.I have tried doing a 'send to' to Documents but it does the same thing. How can I copy all files in the folder to Drive D then to USB Drive H? It seems I was able to do this up until recently has something in WIN 7 changed?
I have a folder I use to collect files for a program. It is subordinate to My Documents. Three days ago it disappeared. It is not, however gone! I can put the path into the address line of Explorer (the files version - not the browser) and it magically appears. Also I can search and find all the files/folders in that folder individually by name with 'search'. I've set cursor on My Documents and opened >Tools>Folder Options>View and checked "Show hidden files folders and drives". I've tried this at various levels as well. I also ran a batch attrib e.g.:
@echo off Echo This script will unhide all files in the current folder and all subfolders. Echo If there are a lot of files, it may take some time to complete. Attrib -H /S /D echo Unhide Complete pause
This obviously ran for a few minutes from C:
Wierd. I can get to the files, but the folder does not show up under My Documents as it should. I've tried to recreate the folder directly subordinate to My Documents, and get a warning that the folder already exists. This is not a total loss since I can get to the folder, but would be nice to simply open My Documents, scroll down and find it.
I have a video folder that is quite large and I don't want to lose the files in it.I copied the folder to a separate drive but the drive is small(160GB) and will not allow me to copy the folder twice to it.I add more files to the original folder and when I go to coy/backup I end up having to delete the folder on the separate drive so the original folder with new files will fit.My question is:Is there a way of 'Syncing' the folders so only the new files are copied? Or should I use Windows Backup just for this folder?
Advanced user new to Windows 7 - I need to copy about 220 MB of files from one folder to two other folders, all on the desktop. In XP, opening the source folder and doing SELECT ALL would give the COPY, MOVE, DELETE options on the left hand of the folder. How best to do in Windows 7? Use the Copy to Clipboard, then Paste to the two other folders? If so, is the Clipboard big enough to handle the copying of up to 1.5 GB in files?
I made a really dumb mistake last night while setting up a VPN. Long story short I deleted my user account. Now, I did not lose any data at all (the account's folder still exists, untouched, in the /Users folder), it is just the user account picture and log in information that are gone. I have no way (that I know of) of re-referencing it so that it appears on my log-in screen again. My issue is that I effectively lost some programs and all configuration files that were exclusively associated with that account. Which is years of config data that I would HATE to have to do again. My questions are as follows (which are two sides of the same coin really).
Is there some way to re-reference this user account so it shows up and loads up like normal on windows login once again? (The system displays it as "User Unknown")f not, is there something that I can do with the /AppData folders of the new (recently created) and old ("deleted") accounts to make my new account be just like the old one?
I just want to share my problem regarding with the folder copying with the same permissions. Here's the scenario I installed domain server in my company and create a users ofcourse and in client pc we make 2 partitions in it(hard drive) C & D on drive D I make a folder Users with the permissions.
- C Drive OS Installed and basic programs - D Drive (with Users folder)
This is where I want to put the profiling on every users login on a client pc. My problem is:
1. How can I copy the Users folder in every client pc with the same permissions so I don't need to set in one by one on a client pc. 2. If there's a software or simple program that can do such thing transferring a folder to another pc over network with the same permission.
I am really perplexed as to what is going on with a Documents folder. It's not MY DOCUMENTS, but rather, the Libraries-Documents folder (versus the my documents under my user profile/name).The folder is FULL of garbage. This includes things that appear to be "temp files" (but with valid file types such as jpg, mp3)also in there doc files, png, tdb, diz, ebc, and others I don't even recognize. Some of these things include package files from the Sims series games (there were a TON of them in there) and others included pictures that I did NOT save locally (as if it were a temp file from the web)There are even many duplicates of some of these pictures. Some I *DID* save as part of a genealogy project, but I didn't save them there.I saved them in a completely different folder with a completely different name.I've got a LOT of work ahead of me cleaning this sucker out (thousands of files to the tune of 16.5gigs...seriously).How are these files getting here and how can I prevent it from happening again?
I have a folder that I'd like to periodically mirror to an external hard disk. How can I easily copy the source to the target, deleting files now deleted in the source, updating files that have been changed in the source, and adding new files to the destination. Would an XCOPY with the appropriate set of switches do the trick - maybe something like
I have a lot of directories that need to be transported via USB drive later (the files/folders vary each time). I want the files to remain in their original location, but have some kind of folder or structure where I can group the folders so that when I need to copy them, it is a simple matter of selecting one folder and copying it to the USB drive. I don't want to create duplicates of files or folders. Basically, I want some kind of folder or holding area that will have pointers to the folders/files I need to copy. Can I do this in Windows 7? I had was to use Libraries. That would kind of work, but it isn't drag and drop and is more awkward to add folders to.I know at the beginning of the week which folders I will need for that week, so I want to set it up in advance sow hen it is time to do the copy, it is easy.I know I could setup a simple batch file (with XCOPYs) , but was hoping for a better solution where I could browse the files before I copy them, etc.
I've got a weird problem I couldn't find any solutions for on google. In trying to move my 'Users' folder to my new 1 TB Media Drive M: I accidently moved the directory (right click>Properties>Location Tab>Change directory path) "C:UsersScottMy Music" to "M:UsersMy Music" where the system MERGED it with "C:UsersScott" instead of creating it adjacent to that directoryAfter that the system has decided that the directory structure of "M:UsersScott" is the same as "M:UsersMy Music" so whenever I move a file or folder to "M:UsersScott" in trying to complete the migration it puts it in "M:UsersMy Music" instead. If I create a new folder in "M:Users" and rename it to 'Scott' the system asks if I wanted to merge the two folders as it thinks Scott already exists, even if it shows My MusicThis problem is not a huge issue and because of other potential problems this may have caused I am going to create a new profile, move my data over, and remove this profile, but I wanted to find out what is causing thi
I'm about to back up my Gta save file, and it should be located on my documents folder,c:usersamielmy documentsgta user files but unfortuntely I don't see My documents folder just like I used to.I only saw Documents,My Pictures,My Music and Contacts.
Somehow (pilot error, I'm sure) I have what appears to be duplicate instances of my Documents Folder, one instance in my Documents folder, the other as a subfolder in my Pictures folder.
When I Open up an Excel workbook, I would like to set up a default Folder when opening up regular workbook. For e.g I would like to set up My Documents as the default folder. If I open up a workbook in say "Downloads" Folder" , the folder must default back to My Documents" so that when I want to open up another workbook, it defaults back to My Documents?
I was using Chrome looking at some info on Cisco's website and my browser crashed, and all the contents of my Documents folder are missing as well as the desktop shortcuts associated with them.I've tried system restore but that didn't even complete, and EASEUS Data Recovery Wizard Professional and I have not been able to locate them.
I am using 7 Ultimate. Two days ago I was tempted to try I.E.9, D/L it but decided it wasn't for me.Did the uninstall in "Add/Remove".Later I realised that my yellow folders, from "My Docs" etc down to folders I'd gathered work in would not now open with left clicks, only with R click and "Open". The message I get is "This file does not have a program associated with it for performing these actions. Please install a program or, if one is already installed, create an association in the default programs control panel".how do I define my "yellow" folders in order to assign 'em to something that will open them with? If I drag "My documents down to the taskbar and pin it to Windows Explorer then it will open from there with no problem.I gather that Windows Explorer is the programme to link 'em to but how?
I noticed that a number of documents I worked with and did a "save as" went not into my documents folder (as I had assumed, but into a folder called "NSP1RMCB" and when I go to Windows Explorer I can not see such folder. I have hidden folders set to show. How do I find the folder and why does windows 7 do this? How can I make sure that does not happen again?
windows 7 36 posts Gaithersburg,MD.I have a devil of a time quite often finding documents I just created and saved. But I did not look which folder it saved it in, since from years of working with computers it would always save it to Documents, where a normalperson would want it.BUT I noticed (after hours of searching,) that it saved the document (a .pdf file) in a Folder called XKVBTW02, but NOT also in Documents. This drives me crazy. It's idiotic!!! Why does it do that and why could I not find it when I searched for .pdf? How do I fix this so every document is saved in the Documents folder?TW It also did not show up under Recent documents, that why it took me hours to find it again. In above crazy folder.I have worked with some documents today and saved them "save as" and gave it a name. But I did not look what folder it went into since I was used from years of computing that it would go to my documents.
I have windows seven home premium on a lenevo 3000 N100.I was running Super Anti spyware free edition and it said that a folder in my documents which contained 2 MP3 files and 2 image files was corrupt. I know it was not like that to begin with as I downloaded it on Jan 7 and have listened to the songs a few times since then. I can't delete it because it is corrupt. It recommends I run chkdsk. I go to it by going to my computer, drive c, properties, tools, check disk. Then it says it can't run it when windows is in use and asks if I'd like to schedule a scan the next time I turn on my computer. I have restarted and shut down my computer atleast 5 times now and it will not start that scan, it'll just boot up like it normally would.
I accidentally merged the desktop folder and documents folder. (Not sure how). Nothing is missing. I just have no "desktop" folder under my user folder and all of the individual files from the documents folder are on the desktop. I'd rather not system restore.
My computer wouldn't boot to Windows, so I had to do an F11 system recovery. It reinstalled Vista and the OS began working again whereupon I used my disks to upgrade it to Windows 7. It installed with no problem. But when I looked for my text, photo and video files, they were all gone! However iTunes was able to reload my music library. It is my understanding that F11 system recoveries do not delete text and media files. But if that's true...
I have a folder in My Documents that doesn't open up (other folders in my computer works fine). I double click on it and it makes that clicking sound and flashes for a sec but nothing opens up. I can only look at what's in the folder by using Word 2007 then open and select all files. I scanned it with AVG and there's no virus. Most of the stuff in there are not downloaded, it's mainly documents which I typed on this computer, and the few things that have been downloaded I have opened before and there never seemed to be a problem until recently. I made a copy of the folder to an external hard drive and funnily that opens up. I tried to delete the original folder in my documents but it says folder in use and won't let me delete it.

I want to move the My Documents onto a separate partition, which appears very straightforward in 7.
However, the first time I called the partition (as that was all it was going to be used for) 'My Documents' and just wanted to move the sub folders there.
Unfortunately, having moved the first item 'Desktop', the partition itself became 'Desktop' and behaved like that folder. The only way I could get it back was by creating other users and deleting the initial profile.
Subsequenty, every time I try to move 'My Documents', the folder selected is renamed by Windows to whatever folder I'm moving and the path afterwards reflects that, irrespective of my instruction.
i.e. I want to move 'My Documents' so create a folder called 'Information' (either before or during the move dialogue makes no difference. I confirm the notification to move files and receive confirmation of success.
Bizarrely, the new folder, previously 'Information', is now called 'My Documents'.
I want to move My Documents folder to another partition (D:) but I'm wondering if I do will other users on the computer now be able to access the contents?
