My computer suddenly tells me it can't open my pictures on one of my user accounts by asking what file do I want to use to open it or to go online to search for an opening file. I tried to start a new user account, and I'm told I need to tell what file I want to use to complete and open this account.

Nov 8, 2011I'm not sure what's going on so I'll quickly describe what I've been experiencing. First off, this a three month old computer. I don't use any P2P applications. I'm good at not clicking false links, etc. I'm up to date with Microsoft Updates and all of my software is up to date as well. I ran a virus scan and it came back completely clean. Sunday afternoon, I left my computer up with a bunch of windows open in Google Chrome. Everything was fine. I came back and no web pages would load. I disconnected my ethernet cable and plugged it back in. Everything was fine for a little while. Then everything started getting choppy. Programs were taking forever to open and once they did, the entire computer started lagging. For example, songs in iTunes would pause for about a half a second and jump right back in. It happened almost routinely, every 3-4 seconds. The mouse cursor was also jumping. I restarted and the same effects were observed. I can no longer open any MS Office products. This REALLY screws the computer up. I opened task manager and I can see Powerpoint, for example, running in the background and using about 100kb of memory. "End Process" does not even end the process. I tried using PSKill.exe to kill the process, but to no avail.

Feb 10, 2013I just uninstalled something related to Microsoft Office and now I can't seem to open any .docx files in my documents anymore. I am currently using Microsoft Word Starter 2010. The only way I seem to be able to open the files in my documents folder is opening Microsoft Word Starter 2010 first then go to file -> open the .docx file. If I try opening it directly from my documents folder without opening Microsoft Word Starter 2010 first, there's a popup that says "This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action Please install a program or, if one is already installed, create an association in the Default Programs control panel."

Jan 15, 2011Whilst using my Acer laptop it crashed and went to 'startup repair'. The repair lasted roughly two hours but once it had finished and I had turned the laptop back on, the user account had become de-personalised and looked like a 'guest' account. My immediate reaction was to switch user but then it remained at the 'welcome' screen and wouldn't stop until after an hour I gave up and switched it off.It then wouldn't get past that screen on the numerous occasions I restarted the laptop after that.I have tried a startup repair after pressing f8 at start up and have tried loading in 'safe mode' and its other two variations and I still have the same problem. The startup repair this time detected no problems and I have now let it do a 'Windows Memory Diagnostic' check.

May 16, 2011The other day I had to access User Account Controls because I was having some problems with Itunes and when I tried to open the Configure User Account Controls panel, a blank window opened for about 10-20 seconds and then it closed on its own. Jul 17, 20111) Asus Laptop Model UL50VT with Windows 7 Home Premium. 2) Hard Drive crashes dies, send it in and get it replaced. 3) Several months after getting the Hard Drive replaced (Yesterday) I noticed that my D drive had 350GB of memory as compared to about 150GB in my C Drive. This was a problem considering my C drive was nearly full.4) I decide to just put new files to the D Drive and that I will copy files over to the D drive to use it as my primary driver. I use Yahoo!Answers as my reliable source of information on all things registry. After following the instructions that I can no longer find, I edited several files in the registry, believing myself to have changed the primary drive from C to D.
5) ^^ The above instructions given were most likely from an epic troll. Everytime I open any System 32 file I get an error that Windows cannot C:/Windows/System32/Application I tried to open/etc... This includes, sadly, my regedit application.6) I copied my System32 folder over to my D drive and attempted to open the application from over there, but it has not worked.7) Many files on my computer are unable to be found by windows, System32 is not the only case. It appears to be somewhat random8) I tried as a cop-out way to fix this to create a new User Account, and that also failed... It simply will not open the Control Panel section for creating a new account.9) Lastly... and perhaps this was my stupidest mistake of all... I never created a recovery disk.
Cannot Login - Administrative Account Won't Open / Others Working Fine
Oct 13, 2012After log in desktop it's all blue and only can move the cursor, other accounts work fine it's just the administrative account that wont open, I had tried from restoring to a previous point (it only gives me 1 and it's when the problem started) and did not work, I tried system repair and still don't work, I ran malware clean up and virus check and mostly every cleaning there is, and still nothing. (Btw I am running windows 7 ultimate.)

There is no password setTHere is just one user/account which is obviously also the administrator. (the Account tab shows also HomeGroupUser$, but I guess is a default option...)the point is that when I switch the pc on, I have to click on the icon of the user account in order to see the desktop. Is there any chance I can login automatically without even clicking on the user icon

Oct 31, 2011I am using Windows 7 Pro 64x and apparently the default user account (Owner) that I use is not working correctly. Unless I have UAC set to Never Notify, I cannot open Control Panel or UAC again. I have created a second user account as Administrator and it works correctly.
I would like to know if there is any way to fix this problem short of a clean install of Windows. If not, is it possible to move all of my settings to the user account that works correctly and delete the one that does not.
