All Of Programs Want To Open With Notepad
Aug 17, 2012Well today i was trying to open something with java binary, and i didnt have it anymore for some reason, maybe becaues I got Java 64 bit, but ya, then I clicked notepad, and not I cant fix it? Ive tried reinstalling Java, even got the 32 bit. But I cant find a way to figure this out. Help please its urgent. I think it is a problem with the ".Ink" , but i dont know how to fix it. Only some of the things want to open with notepad, only the ones that are ".exe".

What I have noticed, is that for the past few days, if I have tried to open firefox, it has come up with error that its already open, but if I wait a few seconds, it works fine. The firefox prob happened once before and I hate to delete out a profile and bugger around with with another setting, but I cant remember what I did. ANother thing I have noticed, is when an app does eventually open, after about a minute, it states its not responding up the top, but then it disappears and app seems fine. If you try to use arrow keys to scroll down, it hesitates sometimes also....

Those that do open, when left clicked on for a menu item, the app closes.Although an app opens it is not functional. The only way to restore normalcy is to hard close the computer and reboot, then everything is OK.

Aug 30, 2012I can only connect to the network using 64 bit applications on Window 7 Pro SP1.The problem occured after installing the latest version of iTunes (may or may not be related). I uninstalled iTunes with no change. IE 32 bit crashes after opening. Firefox opens but gives Server Not Found error. I cannot connect webservers on the local network with Firefox either. Filezilla will not connect to local or remote servers. VNC will not connect to local servers - IE 64 works fine and command line tools like ftp and telnet to internal and external sites works fine - this is not a DNS, Firewall, or Routing issue.
Same results in Safe Mode
sfc /scannow runs clean.
I reset the winsock, uninstalled all my network adapters, including the drivers and resinstalled them.Rebooted multiple times.Unfortunately I just discoved that System Restore was not enabled so I can't roll back.I doubt this is malware related as I have multiple levels of defense (postini, SpyShelter, Symantec Endpoint) and outside of iTunes have not downloaded or installed anything or even visited unusual websites. I'm about to do a deep scan that will probably take a few hours just to play it safe.

Running Windows 7 for about 3-4 months after old motherboard died. System was idle for about 2 hours when screen went blank for about a second, then replaced by bluescreen.

Got this from event viewer. This has happened a couple of times intermittently, but let it go...til now, not sure if its the same error message, as this is the first time I got BSOD while system idle. Also, have had other erratic behaviour e.g.: while transferring large files to external drive transfer would stop leaving me thinking all done, this would happen when power options set to power down monitor after 30 minutes. Have set monitor to never sleep and problem solved, but maybe worth a mention here. Also, have noticed warning in event viewer, "dll's for all apps being loaded". Using avast free av, and noticed avast real time scanner going crazy with 100%...maybe its scanning all these dll's at that time but again not sure, just maybe worth a mention.

May 1, 2012So I just got my old computer up and running. I haven't installed anything, except put files from my other computer on it so I can sell that one. Problem is, after two days of it working fine, it says windows 7 won't start. I have tried the system repair and the system restore, along with a memory diagnostics test (because it was saying the memory couldn't be read, but after the test was done it said there wasn't any problems) So I'm thinking it has something to do with the hard drive, maybe being internally damaged or something but I have no idea... I have left it turned off for a day and a half to see if that would work but it didn't. I still keep getting a blue screen about the memory that flashes for 5 secs then it starts up then restarts itself.
