View 6 RepliesSo I just got my old computer up and running. I haven't installed anything, except put files from my other computer on it so I can sell that one. Problem is, after two days of it working fine, it says windows 7 won't start. I have tried the system repair and the system restore, along with a memory diagnostics test (because it was saying the memory couldn't be read, but after the test was done it said there wasn't any problems) So I'm thinking it has something to do with the hard drive, maybe being internally damaged or something but I have no idea... I have left it turned off for a day and a half to see if that would work but it didn't. I still keep getting a blue screen about the memory that flashes for 5 secs then it starts up then restarts itself.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a HP Pavilion dv7 Entertainment Laptop. Lately, when I start up my computer, Windows Explorer (Libraries) open automatically. I can close it out with no problem but find it annoying to see it on EVERY startup. I don't know if something happened during a HP or Windows update or if possibly picked up some spyware or malware somewhere. I ran scans with Avast anti-virus, Spybot S&D, and Malwarebytes with nothing serious showing up...just cookies.Everything seems to run properly with no problems but this showing up on startups/reboots, opens on safe mode also. I checked to see if anything in startup folder...Nothing. I checked msconfig settings...can't find anything unusual.[CODE]
View 9 Replies View RelatedI just recently bought an HP Pavilion p6730f BV533AA#ABA Desktop PC - Intel Core i3-550 3.2GHz, 6GB DDR3, 1.5TB HDD, DVDRW, Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. Right out of the box it started acting a little touchy. I bought to get a project done for a client, so immediately I installed Adobe premiere cs5 along with a slew of other programs I use day to day. Within the first two days I noticed it would sometimes fail to open new programs after it had been left on for about a day. For example: lets say I go to open firefox, so I click on the firefox icon pinned to my taskbar. It glows, as if it is loading then fades. As if the computer forgot what my request was. I try clicking a few more times; same thing. So I go to the shortcut in my start menu, click it: same thing. the little circle appears next to my cursor for a moment, then the request is gone. Tried hotkeys; (windows button plus number position on taskbar) still nothing. I then try every program on the taskbar, each with the same results. (and giving proper time for the computer to think) Even simple programs like text editor will not open. To top it off, the shutdown process wont even initiate! At which point I have to hard-crash out to restart. After a fresh restart it works fine for a few days or so till this happens.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI took out my Windows 7 boot drive and put it inside of a USB enclosure and when I try and go to my profile, I can't open Users folder on other computer. I don't have an administrator account on this other computer. Is there any way to open up the folder? It just says access denied when I try and open it up on a windows xp computer with no ADMIN privileges (I can't get admin on this computer).
On a XP computer that has admin it opens fine. I figured since I actually wasn't using the OS that was on the drive I wouldn't have any trouble reading any folders on it (but I guess that because it's NTFS there are more security measures, unlike FAT32 which would let anybody read anything). Would I just need to open up the folder on a computer with admin and then copy the things over while I still have admin.

View 2 Replies View RelatedMany of my documents that I copied over to my new computer from my old one (which I still have and runs Vista) were written on Microsoft Works & have the file association WSP . As Win 7 doesnt come with this older program, short of going back to my old computer & converting them to a program I can download onto both (which would be very time consuming to say the least) is there some way to either convert them to a file association that a program on Win 7 can open or download a program that could open them?

View 4 Replies View RelatedMy computer will not allow me to open any programs except those that came installed initially. For example, I cannot open firefox, itunes, adaware, etc. However, I can open IE, paint, games. I also cannot install anything either whether in safe mode or not, even if I change the exe name. I checked the processes and there is nothing out of the ordinary. Lastly, I tried a restore and nothing helpful came from it.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI use a seperate SDD on which I play DCS World Games .Win7 is also on that disk as part of a dual boot but here it only serves to operate the games and ancilliaries. I have found that when clicking on 'Computer' in the Start Menu or the icon on Desktop ; there is no response and I cannot gain access to computer on on that disk.I have run various malware, anti virus programs but all seems clear I have formatted and reinstalled Win7 and the games from DCS. At first all was well but the problem has returned . I should have mentioned that last week the problen extended to 'Task Manager' ans 'Waste Basket' ; neither would open to a double click. The fact that the problem has returned makes me believe that a virus is high on the list of suspects but I cannot locate it[CODE]

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've just realized a strange bug, when I open "My computer" or just "Computer" in vista/Windows 7, when I double click or when I right click and then choose "open", it, most of the times, opens two instances of this hard drive. For instance, if I double click on the c: drive, it opens two identical windows with the content of C:
I've included the psr file, you can see that it opens two instances of the windows. Just unzip the file and open it and you'll see the problem.
Anyone has this problem?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm totally new to these forums but I wanted my pinned windows explorer shortcut on my taskbar to open Computer instead of Libraries.
So I've figured it out and wrote a application for it.
It will open anything you select from the list. (Thanks Brink for the list)
Program is attached.
It'd be nice to see some replies regarding this.
P.S App is written in C# for those who wonder...
W7ExplorerShortcut is the console application that only allows you to set it to open My Computer.
7Tweaker is the GUI application that gives you a list of options.
I'm using Windows 7 (RTM) and I've got a few questions.
How do I close any open network ports on my computer?
How do I network all the computers so I can remotely shut them down.
Like the server I have thats mapped to my desktop.
if i leave my comp idle for a few hours i find that none of my programs start, and sometimes i cannot even open olders on my desktop, double clicking any shortcut or even the .exe in the root program folder results in nothing happening. the start menu still opens but i cant select restart or log off as they do not appear, i can still shutdown but it takes about 30 seconds before acually responding and shutting down. Also should mention that if i open any program eg: photoshop or nero and leave the computer idle, when i return and try to continue using the program it will stop responding most of the time, any either ctrl-alt-delete or shutdown is required to quit.my power management setting are all off, hybrid sleep is off....my comp is set to never sleep in any way.i am running windows 7 pro x64, i3 processor, 4gb ram?
View 3 Replies View RelatedJust yesterday my desktop (currently using laptop) randomly restarted and now no .exe files will open. I have searched the forums and some posts suggested combofix. However, I cannot access the internet nor can I open any files. I also ran the computer in safemode and still no luck. I have the following antivirus programs: AVG 2012, Malwarbyte, Super antivirus, and CC cleaner. Oddly enough, CC cleaner and Super antivirus works normally but doesn't fix any problems. I would say 90% of my programs cannot open. I can run the command prompt as well.Things I have tried:
1) system restore
2) System recovery options
