Explorer Set To Open Computer As Default
Dec 2, 2009When you open Windows Explorer it shows as default 'My Documents' folder.
Can i change this so that it opens the item 'Computer' instead every time i open explorer?

Explorer Optical Drive Default To Open Not Play
Jan 7, 2010I'm running Windows 7 build 7077. I've messed around with all the autostart/autoplay settings I can find. But I can't find a way to change my optical drive default in Explorer from Play to Open(as in explore the folders not play the video.)
It's just a nuisance to forget, double click, get the error(because I have WMP disabled in local security policy) then right click on the drive icon and click Open. Life would be easier if I could just double-click it!! Anyone know the secret?
Change Pinned Explorer To Open Computer
Aug 11, 2009I'm totally new to these forums but I wanted my pinned windows explorer shortcut on my taskbar to open Computer instead of Libraries.
So I've figured it out and wrote a application for it.
It will open anything you select from the list. (Thanks Brink for the list)
Program is attached.
It'd be nice to see some replies regarding this.
P.S App is written in C# for those who wonder...
W7ExplorerShortcut is the console application that only allows you to set it to open My Computer.
7Tweaker is the GUI application that gives you a list of options.
Windows 7 Explorer (Libraries) Open On Every Computer Startup?
May 18, 2011I have a HP Pavilion dv7 Entertainment Laptop. Lately, when I start up my computer, Windows Explorer (Libraries) open automatically. I can close it out with no problem but find it annoying to see it on EVERY startup. I don't know if something happened during a HP or Windows update or if possibly picked up some spyware or malware somewhere. I ran scans with Avast anti-virus, Spybot S&D, and Malwarebytes with nothing serious showing up...just cookies.Everything seems to run properly with no problems but this showing up on startups/reboots, opens on safe mode also. I checked to see if anything in startup folder...Nothing. I checked msconfig settings...can't find anything unusual.[CODE]

Nov 20, 2011I know it's a small thing really cause all one has to do is click "Switch to Library" in the upper right hand corner. But who wants to do that every time a person opens WMP 12? I know its not the end of the world, but I never use the Now Playing screen as I'm always in the Library. Is their a quick fix for this to have WMP open by default to the Library instead of the Now Playing mode?
Forgot to add that I already went to Organize>Options>Player Tab and "Keep Now Playing on top of other windows" is already UN-checked. So that's why I'm confused.

Some of them open with the "Name" column selected, so the arrow keys don't initially scroll through the items in the folder.
I know this is very specific, but there HAS GOT to be a way to define what it opens to by default... especially since some of my folders default to the list of items within the folder.

Nov 30, 2011I have a user who is using Outlook 2010, and intermittently recieves the error "Cannot open default email folders. Server is not available." When she receives this error, outlook closes.She is connecting to a POP3 account online, everything checks out in the "mail" settings in the control panel. Her .pst files aren't too big.I've tried a repair install, an uninstall followed by a fresh install, and updating to SP1 for Office 2010. Nothing seems to be helping, it is hit and miss when it does it, which makes it that much harder to troubleshoot.

Dec 27, 2011I upgraded to windows 7 through a clean install. I just reinstalled itunes but when it prompts me to change itunes to the default program to use for audio files, I click yes and nothing happens. It prompts me every time I open itunes. I went to control panel -> programs -> default programs -> set default programs and itunes wasn't there. I then went to ->associate a file type or protocol with a program but when I tried to change the default program for .mp3 the following happened:
- I double click .mp3
- I click browse
- Secondary Drive -> Itunes -> Itunes.exe
- I arrive at the screen that popped up after I double clicked .mp3 and itunes isn't on the list.
I tried going to a random .mp3 file and changing its default program but the same thing happened. I googled what to do and I looked for a software that would change the default program for filetypes and I used both. They didn't work. I tried the following:
a. Click Start, type regedit in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.
b. Navigate to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionpoliciesExplorer
c. In the right side of the screen double click on "NoFileAssociate".
d. Change the value of "NoFileAssociate" from 1 to 0. If the value is not present, create a DWORD value and enter the valaue data as 0.
e. Exit Registry Editor and Restart the computer and check.
But I didn't seem to have the nofileassociate part in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionpoliciesExplorer

Jul 24, 2011Does anyone know how do I set the default program to open media files in Windows 7On WinXP it was right click -> open with -> checkmark "set as default program for opening this type of file" -> double click program. I did the same thing on Windows 7 and it has absolutely no effect. I do NOT want to play music/movie files with Windows Media Player, yet every time I try to play any music file (.mp3, .wav, etc), it ALWAYS open with Win Media Player, even though I have clearly set the default program to open these files as something else... same thing applies to movies
