My laptop is an inspiron n5110 and before my warrenty expired i had to have the hard drive replaced. Its been maybe a year or two since that happened. My computer was not updating with windows update since mid oct. and my firewall was down for i dont know how long. I had the IT guy at my work look at it and somehow my BYTES (i think thats what it was) driver was deleted from my computer and my java update somewhere along the line had corrupted my updates too. He said to do a restore and if i wanted he could completly wipe my hardrive clean for me. Well i did a factory restore yesterday and finished installing the last two disks today. Now i cannot connect to the internet and it is saying my drivers were not downloaded correctly. Should i do a factory restore again or have the IT guy wipe it clean? We even hooked up my computer directly to the router through an eithernet cord.

I have a 2 year old Gateway laptop (NV5929u) i5 430M w/ 4GB. It came with Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit installed. The computer crashed with a blue screen a few months ago, and I could not locate the recovery disks, so I ordered a set from Gateway (1 System disk, 2 Recovery disks, 1 Language disk). My attempts at recovery were unsuccessful and I got the msg: failure disk 0 partition 3. I replaced the HD with a brand new one yesterday. My attempts at recovery went a bit further, to the point that the computer loads the information on the various disks, but when it tries to restart.

Purchased a brand new Asus USB-BT211 bluetooth dongle with the express goal of connecting a wiimote to my new computer. the machine runs Windows 7 x64, the drivers for the dongle install without a problem, and the bluetooth searching mode on the "add a device" screen appears to be running without a hitch.
when i place the wiimote into sync mode (holding down the red button), it never appears to be visible to the computer, and doesn't show up on the add a device screen. When I attempt this procedure with either of my other two laptop computers, (running Windxows Vista x86) using the same dongle, the wiimote syncs without a problem and can be used with other utilities such as glovePIE and JoyToKey and Dolphin.
So, tell me, Why is it that Windows 7 refuses to see the wiimote when i try to make the connection?

Just purchased a new MOBO and some other new hardware a couple of weeks ago. I am using the same Windows 7 Pro copy I had on my previous mobo and HD. After I installed Windows 7 Pro onto my SDD (with a HD as my secondary storage), I was getting BSOD and SP1 would not install (but other updates would prefectly fine). I re-installed (cleanly) Pro a couple of days ago. Now, barely any of the updates work. There are various failure codes, such as the ones in the title--and no distinct problem.
I was able to download some updates by only selecting 1-3 at a time. However, with 118 updates...I eventually lost my patience (plus, sometimes a few would still fail even at only 1-3 at a time).
The failure process at first was at the download stage - the progress would freeze randomly at 7% or whichever. After several more attempts it got through to the installation phase. Now installations randomly stop at a random file. Upon restart, Windows fails to configure updates and nothing is accomplished.
Now a weird thing is, that with some of my larger files (2+mb), I will sometimes see like 5.1mb - 10mb for the listed file size. Also, on my main Windows Update screen (the one which lists how many important and optional updates you can download), it says "79 important updates selected, 236.2 MB - 1,059.8 MB."
I have tried:
-FixIt
-Deleting all temp files
-Deleting DataStore
Random Specs:
Windows 7 Pro
ASUS P8Z77-V Pro
Samsung 830 64GB SSD

I have an inspiron 570 desktop with 4gb of ram already installed. I went on crucial, and it found compatible RAM, 1gb 240pin ddr3 128mx64. When I opened my computer up, there were 4 slots, 2 blue ones with the default ram, and 2 open black ones. I couldn't get the ram to seat properly, it took a lot of force to make it click on one side, it wouldn't clip on both sides at once. And I'm sure the ram was in all the way, because if I applied any more force I would snap it.
why my ram wont fit?

My desktop PC running Windows 7 64 bit behaves erratically when I close it down using the Start Orb - shut down button. Sometimes it closes down fully on other occasions the computer goes into a deep sleep, (the hard drive light continues to flash, the fans are running, the monitor screen goes off) but it will not respond to either the keyboard or the mouse, both of which are connected by USB cables.I then have to close down the computer by holding in the power button for about 10 seconds. When I next require the computer it boots normally and seems oblivious to its shut-down problem.I always ensure that no programs are running when I shut down the computer and cannot see any clues regarding what I was last doing before shut-down that might trigger a problem. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the USB device drivers to no avail.

I am running windows 7 and my cd rom is not working properly. It was reinstalled which seemed to help a LITTLE, but sometimes you have to incert a cd 7 or eight times before it will read it. I can see that there is a cd inserted (when I go to my computer I can see the D drive). Just doesn't read them all the time. I have a Dell with a vertical cd drive. When I view it through the control panel it says my driver is up to date.

Well basically I am restoring my computer like I do every one and a while, but this time it started freaking out it is at the install page for Microsoft Office 2010 and the loading bar wouldn't load past 18/27. I left it here for like 10 hours so i know it's not working right. I also tried turning my computer off and back on again, but it just goes back to the same screen. However when I turn it back on I can hit F2 and F12 for the booting menus, but I couldn't find anything of help there. Oh and if I close my laptop and open it in switches users and I can't log back in to the only account says I don't have permission. I'm not sure what to do after that, it didn't come with a disk it's all in the computer.I use a 64bit windows 7.

I have a three month old HP DV7-3085dx which suddenly stopped shutting down correctly. I hangs at the "shutting down" screen. I have to power it down manually to shut it off then of course I get the message that windows shut down incorrectly. I'm at my wits end with this. Today I restored the laptop for the fourth time back to when it was new. I used Mozbackup and even that didn't work with the Thunderbird backup so I lost all my contacts. It worked fine with the Firefox backup. I'm attaching the file that was in the minidump directory as several other posters were instructed to do.

I am running windows 7 64 bit on my desktop PC. I have had it for...something like a year and a half now. And just in the last couple weeks I have suddenly had this problem. The issue is that my Windows apparently cannot shut down properly. It shuts down, there is no hanging up or anything. Any time I shut down or restart, it goes to the blue "Shutting Down" screen and message, the cursor does it's rotating "timing" thing, and then the system shuts down. But when it restarts, I get the "Windows did not shut down successfully" and it asks me if I want to start in one of the safe mode variations, or to start normally. Every single time. Windows shuts down, but then restarts and tells me it did not shut down properly. And many changes I made before shutting down were not retained, but some are. For example, I patched a game, and that information was retained on restart. But I moved some desktop icons around, bookmarked some pages in Firefox, closed Firefox pages, changed msconfig for a clean boot, and none of those changes were retained.
I have gotten a screen freeze and BSOD a couple of times in the last few weeks as well, but only a couple of times, while the "failure to shut down properly" problem happens with every single shutdown and restart I do.
I'm losing my mind a bit here. The only real practical problem it's causing me at the moment is that every time I restart my computer, I have to rearrange my desktop icons, and every time I open Firefox, it wants to restore a session I had closed and exited from, and I can't bookmark any websites. It's annoying, but doesn't keep me from functioning.

I have all of my folders on my D drive set to be network accessible by everyone on the network, mostly so I can share them with my laptop. It's not very secure, but that's not the problem I'm having here. I recently changed some of the organization of the folders on the drive, which included changing folder names. As a result, I had to reshare them. All of that worked out fine and I've been able to access them. However, if I go to my D drive through "My Computer" I see all the old folder names with the old folder contents. I have to go to "My Network Places" and click on my PC's Location (while on my PC) in order to access the new folders.

I updated my audio drivers as per windows update because I noticed I had some new updates. Well now my speakers are not as loud as they used to be. I really don't know a way to describe this other then that, they just do not sound like they used to. They sound like they are not reaching their maximum volume, even though the volume ( master and others ) are all the way up, maxed out. Also, my Dell and the Audio drivers come with an IDT control panel, I do not know how to set up the IDT control panel for best playback, and I do not know how to fix this issue. I am on a Dell XPS 1645 using Windows 7 Pro.
