View 1 RepliesI have a problem with a second hard disk. I can't see it on computer. It seems only in disk manager and it says 'unallocated'. What do I have to do that I get it to view like my primary hard disk (C)? I don't want to format it because it includes a lot of important files.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a Getac B300 laptop running W7Pro on a single partition. Through a rather bizarre mix of nostalgia and my love for sheer simplicity, I somehow got it into my head that I wanted to run an XP Pro installation on the same machine.
The next station of this (surely flawed ) thought process led me to wonder whether I could do just that with the already existing Windows 7 installation. I got around to shrinking the C: partition, which netted me some 51 gigs of free space that I figured I could use to create a new partition on which to install XPPro. So far, so good.
As you'd expect by now, simply sticking the XP CD into the DVD drive and restarting the machine just won't work: I got the "XP can't see the hard drive" message. So, armed with Google as my friend, I ended up educating myself about how to use nLite to create a copy with integrated iaahci and iastor. Problem is, Having prepared three copies already, after I start the installation sequence and the XP CD installer starts loading files, I'm ending up with the message "the file iastor.sys could not be found," even though I did make sure to include the file that I downloaded from somewhere in the integration process.
So what am I missing here? What am I doing wrong? (I know that the whole concept is "wrong," but there you have it.)
Here are some of the specs of the machine in question:
Getac B300
32-bit W7P SP1
320GB Toshiba MK2555GSX ATA HDD
3GB RAM
ICH8M chipset.
it contains only 1 system drive c which is 575 gb capacity and other system, hp tool, recovery and all are basi partioni shrunk C into two now i have 291 c and 283 unallocated but i cant make it or convert it into drive as it only allows dynaic drive which will make system unstable or may be i can't reboottell me the solution to use unallocated disk space so that i can use it as a backup

View 1 Replies View RelatedIs it possible to overwrite unallocated portions of your hard drive, primary drive with OS and files, without losing anything?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI read up a bit on this on other threads but none of them are exactly specific to my issue.I need to expand my C partition by utilizing the free unallocated space on disk D (a separate disk) that I just made by deleting the only partition on there.I guess this is not possible through windows disk management tools but I didn't want to start downloading any 3rd party software for this before I got some guidance from here. lease take a look at the following screen and let me know if using the 238.38GB of unused (unallocated space) I can extend the C partition without having to delete that partition, having to backup the files on it or making images. I already backed up everything I had on the D partition and then went ahead and deleted it through the computer management tool.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have been running a Dual-Boot Setup of XP Pro and WIN 7 successfully for some weeks while I get familiar with Windows 7. Recently I have almost exclusively been booting into WIN 7. In this D.B. Setup The booted OS appears as Primary Partition on the C: drive with the non-active OS as "Unallocated Space " on the D: drive. This all happens on the No 1 Hard Drive. No 2 Hard Drive has been partitioned into several Partitions, the First one as a Primary Partition with the remaining Partitions as Logical drives.
Today , when I booted into WIN 7 , there was no sign of the second hard drive and its Partitions even although both drives (Serial Drives) were recognised in the initial part of the Bios screen during this bootup. When I looked in Disk Management, I saw that the first Partition on the second hard drive appeared normally as a Primary Partition but that all remaining space on this drive was shown as "Unallocated Space". I then re-booted into the XP OS . This showed the second hard drive and all its Partitions normally, i.e. with its first Partition as the Primary and all subsequent ones as Logical Drives.
I currently just set up my new build. I decided to go with Western Digital Caviar Green 3TB for my hard drive. However, I split the hard drive into two parts: 2 TB and roughly about 770 GB unallocated space. I installed Window 7 on 2TB partition. Now, I decide to use the rest of 770 GB of unallocated space. I tried to use Computer Management, but it doesn't give me the option to create a new volume from unallocated space. Similar thing happened with EaseUS Partition Master. With Acronis Disk Director, it doesn't even recognize the unallocated space at all!!! So how can I create a new volume or even merge it with my C drive? Do I have to reformat my hard drive and split them again and do a clean installation again?
Note:I already checked, my BIOS recognizes my hard drive with 3 TB. The unallocated space is right after my C drive. There is only 1 primary MBR partition (C drive), and 100 MB system files right before it.
I have a 500GB hard drive that has 2 unusable bits of space. My obvious question is.Can it be fixed so they can be used or is this stuck like this?

i remember, last week everything was ok and all of sudden this problem has occurred. all other drives are ok only these three are way over their own heads.
my system is
Intel Core i5-2300 cpu@2.8ghz
2.79ghz,3.48 GB of RAM
and windows is 32 bit/
I have few questions on Windows 7 Upgrade. Currently I'm using windows vista home premium 64 bit and I bought an windows 7 home premium 64 bit upgrade disk.
first thing is I want to format my previous operating system and all the data in my laptop and install windows 7 in it using the Upgrade disk.
second thing is I don't have my vista installation disk with, my laptop was pre-installed with vista so in future if I want to switch can I get back VISTA using system restore.
third is can i install windows 7 on a new hard disk using a windows 7 Upgrade disk?
i'm going to flash my bios to a newer version with DOS, but i'm not sure how to make a DOS-bootable DISK?
View 9 Replies View Relatedhard drive 1: (vista)Plugged the hard drive in, the start up screens and the bios both recognise it, yet under 'My Computer' and when trying to install vista on it, it wasn't showing up when asked where I wanted to install vista to. I'm positive I have wired it up properly as there's only 2 wires which are completely different from one another. I do have with me the original installation disk that came with the PC also.
hard drive 2: (windows 7)Same sorta situation with the PC not finding it really. Though his PC only has enough power connections for the 1 hard drive and he wants both at once (there's 2 power connections that fit, but the other goes to the CD drive) Also in the 'cage' bit there is only room for 1 hard drive. also I can't seem to make a installation disk, when I have the old hard drive in, it created a repair disk, not installation disk.
Situation: I have RAID 0 as C with Windows 7 installed and E with old Vista installation.
I want to remove E disk because it is failing and I don't need Vista on it either as it is non bootable from previous crashes. However E disk is System disk and if I detach it, my Windows 7 on Raid 0 does not load with error: "A disk read error occurred Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart." When I connect E back everything boots up normally.
I forgot to say that before detaching E disk I performed Change boot drive action in EasyBCD 2.1.2 to C, but as I said disk read error then happens. I also tried startup repair with Windows 7 installation cd but it founds no problem.
I come with cap in hand and head bowed in shame at this, my first post - after so many months reading the knowledge that so many of you seem to have.
I seek your help if you would please. After downloading at 45k all day what I believed (and still believe to be!) was the iso image of the RC, I (merely?) have the RC content that I need to create a bootable disc.
I have used Bart's BBIE to extract a boot image file from my previous W7_7068 disc and I now have 'image1.bin' at 2k.
But from here? - How and where do I merge this bin file with my W7_RC content? (I'm using 'CDBurnerXP').
Call me a 'noob'or call me a 'knob', either way I'll cop it sweet.
I download a software, it has iso file. Because I have no CD-ROM, I want to make it to a USB bootable disk and boot this software from USB, rather than. install it on my hard drive. Can Everyone help me?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI used to have only 1 partition to do everything with. I'm reinstalling windows 7, and I would like to take this chance to partition my drives the correct way to help the computer run faster and waste less memory. I browsed through multiple articles on disk partitioning but I just can't grasp the idea. I'm not too good with computers. Would any be kind enough to explain/teach me how to correctly and efficiently partition my disk?

I have a hard drive that needs a firmware update. The update is an exe that has to be run from a dos environment running from a cd. how do I make a cd that can do this? I have tons of stuff, but the only cds that will boot don't have the exe, and modifying any dos boot image to add the exe makes it unbootable. I really need to do this, because the hard drive is useless without it. vockleya has chosen the best answer to his/her question.Click here to view the answer that was selected.
