Make An Older Program Run / Have To Copy A Stack Of Dll / Ocx Files Into System32
Jul 20, 2011
In order to make an older program run, I have to copy a stack of dll/ocx files into System32, and then register them. Yes, it's crappy design, but it's a game editor for an older game, and I'm evidently the last tech-savvy admin. That, or a sucker.I copied them onto the desktop, and am trying to copy them from there into the system32 directory. I hit the UAC prompt, and select continue. Then it tells me I need to provide permission for it. I am a local admin (as well as a domain admin).

I know this is a simple question, but how do I make a backup copy of a new program disk in Windows 7... which I am allowed to do (according to the terms and agreement)? I want to do this so I have a backup in case the original disk fails.

Can copy I go into Computer>>Windows (C)>>Program Files (x86) and copy the files there, put them on a external drive, then paste them after I re-install the O.S.?

There are a number of games that MS issued back about 15-20 years ago that I have enjoyed playing even with Vista. However these games are incompatible with Windows 7 64 bit. Does anyone know how I can get these games to run on Win 7 64 bit. Its a shame if I can't since I have enjoyed them all these years. The games initially were issued as WEP 1, 2 and 3 and are as follows:
Blackjet, Winmine (the older minesweeper game), Cruel, Golf (not the golf game), Tetris, Fugigolf, Jezzball, Maxwell, Rodent and Tutstomb.
I would hope Microsoft would reissue these games in their original form but compatible with Windows 7 64 bit. They are not sophisticated, but they are very enjoyable.

I am trying to copy my Firefox profile folder from my older pc to my Win 7 net book. In the past i used the "run/%applicxxxxxx/profile" syntax to reach my profile. Now, when i do the same in Win 7, i had to create a new folder "profile' and then paste my older profile. In doing this I get the message that it is not accessible. Access Denied. Is there a different way to do this in Win 7?

Just downloaded the latest Java Version 7, no problems. However, when l tried to get rid of my older version, Java(tm) version 6 Update 32, it says that the installer is missing a dll (no name mentioned) and cannot continue.Did this via the add/remove programs in control panel, and also Revo Uninstaller, but the same message appears. Then tried downloading Java 6_32 again in case that was somehow corrupt, but it wouldn't install because of this un-named missing dll!I suppose l could just delete the directory concerned but surely that would leave remnants behind as opposed to a clean uninstall.

When moving or renaming files I frequently get an error messages informing me that "The action can't be completed because the folder or a file in it is open in another program". This typically happens with the second or third folder I try to rename or move. Navigating away to another folder and then coming back or closing explorer and reopening it usually helps but on the second rename or move I'm back to square one. I've been reading and searching on the forum and this is what I have tried so far:stop the windows media player network sharing servicepause indexingtemporarily disable antivirus softwareused the system file checker to check integrityall to no avail. This is without a doubt the most annoying "bug" I have run into so far as it makes it virtually impossible to get anything done or organised. Has anyone found a real solution to this problem that does not involve manually unlocking every single folder before working with it (using 3rd party software

I want to upgrade a computer that is running Windows XP currently to Windows 7. I know that it is possible and that this computer is capable of running Windows 7, and I have the Windows 7 Home Premium Upgrade package. However, there was some damage done by a virus on this computer. The virus was removed, but there are System32 files that are damaged as a result. The owner of the computer had this machine custom built, and they don't have any of the disks for Windows or anything to try running a repair. I am wondering if running the upgrade will fix the problems with System32 files or if they will even be a factor in the upgrade.

I have a good sony vaio from 2010 with a win7 home premium, 4 Gb Ram, 500Gb HDD, 50 Gb available currently. I know various System32 files are missing from information from a HijackThis Scan yesturday, eg lsass.exe. Explorer.exe does not handle folders well-double clicking should open any folder but instead it defaults to trying to open it with the first available software in the context menue, which happens to be VLC Media player. This is a known problem, to do with registry damage and/or windows explorer, not to do with VLC. I have been diligent with updating drivers, and am currently using Slimdrivers to identify further improvements to my driver lineup.
I will add a scan results from tweaking com windows repair after this post. Avast interenet security and Malwarebytes are up to date and scan have found nothing lately. MBAB had to be uninstalled and reinstalled today due to some sudden loss of the signatures update file(I think), but is running well again now. I wish to go through a range of tests and find out about some procedure to restore these corrupt system files. I am an advanced home user but have run out of idea with this problem.

I noticed my laptop being slow and so I checked the active processes. Found an unknown process dllhost.exe using a massive portion of CPU. A friend of mine managed to locate file and alter it so that it was restricted to only the admin of the machine (me), along with another file below it (dllhst3g) was worried that this was some sort of infection that went unnoticed by my antivirus software which at the time was Stop Sign. Since locking files computer worked faster but have been unable to scan computer for infections as Stop Sign couldnt be update for unknown reason. Since then have been infected with virus which stopped me getting to cmd tool, task manager and changed desktop background. Started laptop in Safe Mode with networking, got a copy of Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware which managed to find the problem and delete it. Then was advised to use Avast anti-virus and had no problems since. My main problem is that the 2 files are still locked off and I am wondering how important those processes are? Also, my primary concern is the sudden inability to perform administrator tasks. I am the only user on my laptop and am an administrator according to profile on Control Panel, but when trying to perform Microsoft Windows Update receive pop-up message saying: You need to provide administrator permission To complete this task, you need to log in as an administrator or ask an administrator to complete the task for you. One of the updates to be downloaded is Windows 7 Service Pack. gain admin privileges again and let me know how important the dllhost and dllhst3g files are and/or how to unlock them?

How can I get Windows 7 to name copied files using the scheme "Copy of" (used in Windows XP and earlier) instead of the default scheme "- Copy", whenever a file is copied to the same directory as the original file?In other words, if you copy a file named "Foo.txt" in a directory to the same directory, Windows XP would have named that file "Copy of Foo.txt", but Windows 7 names the file "Foo - Copy.txt". I want the copy to be named "Copy of Foo.txt".There are several reasons why I prefer the XP style file name:
1. It is familiar :-)
2. I have existing files that use the XP style file names, and I want all my file copies to use the same naming scheme. I guess I can do a massive file rename across all my backups, but that would solve only one of my problems.
3. Most of my folders are sorted by name, and using XP style would sort all copies together. On other forums it has been suggested that one can simply sort by date (to get the copies sorted together), but that advice assumes that all copies are created after all other files are created, which is actually not often the case.
4. I often work with long file names, which means that the end of the file name is often obscured, unless I have wide windows (not always possible) and use lots of horizontal scrolling every time I want to select a file. Hovering over a file to get its full name is a cumbersome solution.
5. On other forums some have given the advice to always make copies in subfolders, but I often make copies or copies of copies while I work (it allows me to roll back or to check earlier versions of a file quickly, during my work), and using subfolders would slow me down tremendously (not to mention confuse me).
I know that when TeraCopy is made the copy handler, it renames files in a different way than Windows 7 does, though unfortunately not the way Windows XP did it. Also, if one installs a third-party directory program such as Opus, it asks for a file name every time a copy is made, but I need something that simply names the file correctly immediately.

Just bought this net-book that came with Win 7 Premium. The first thing they recommend is to make a copy of their OS. Now this netbook did not come back with a burner, which i was aware of anyway. They do recommend a usb flash drive with the capacity of 12 gb's. I do not want to have to spend more money on another gadget just to make a copy of it. I do have a burner in my desktop which i have networked to the net-book, and am trying to see if i could at least copy or share it to my desktop and make copies there...but having a heck of a time so far.

I was wondering if there was anyway that I could make like a master copy of an OS, particularly Windows XP, but also Vista and 7. If this is a lame question please forgive me as I am not the most computer savvy , but I'm looking to have a copy of each of the above mentioned OS's that I can use to trouble shoot my friends and families computers, but I'm afraid I'm going to run into issues with the product keys only being able to be used a limited number of times. Is there anyway around this? Is there a more expensive master copy type disk that you can buy for such a purpose?

Below is a batch file I created to copy all the files from a program called A5V5. This batch file works to copy the files to two different drives What I want to do is if the J: Directory is not availble (This is a flash drive) that it will copy to the E: directory which is a second HDD and not leave a "The system cannot find the drive specified" when the flash drive is not inserted.
@echo off
cd c:
cd program files (x86)
cd A5V5
cd Ranch Mobile, Inc
Copy *.* "E:Ranch Mobile" (This is a second hard drive for backup files only)
Copy *.* "J:Ranch Mobile" (This is a Flash drive that is not always inserted)
Pause
I like the way batch files work and I can do these simple ones but when it comes to doing the more complicated ones I am at a total loss.

I have an external enclosure. Could anyone point to me where to go and read in point blank detail step by step how to:
1. Make a mirror image backup copy of the pc hard drive including partitions and the OS..
2. How to set it in such a way that I could save the eventual changes produced in that backed up copy by doing in future just an incremental back up each time (of only what has changed since the previous backup).I am running Windows 7 Home 64-bit.

I have a program installed under "C:Program Files (x86)CompanyNameSWName". When the program runs it's supposed to copy some files, say FROM "C:Program Files (x86)CompanyNameSWNameDrivers*.abc TO "C:Program Files (x86)CompanyNameSWNameDrivers*.xyz
The program works on every machine it's been installed on, except for one (customer's) Win 7 64-bit machine. On that machine, nothing happens.
It's noteworthy that on that same machine an "insufficient access privileges" (or some such) message pops-up when an administrator trys to copy a folder to "C:Program Files (x86)CompanyNameNewName".
why this particular Windows 7 machine is being so picky? What should I have the installer do so that the application will be able to copy/rename its own files?
