I am trying to copy my Firefox profile folder from my older pc to my Win 7 net book. In the past i used the "run/%applicxxxxxx/profile" syntax to reach my profile. Now, when i do the same in Win 7, i had to create a new folder "profile' and then paste my older profile. In doing this I get the message that it is not accessible. Access Denied. Is there a different way to do this in Win 7?
View 9 RepliesIn order to make an older program run, I have to copy a stack of dll/ocx files into System32, and then register them. Yes, it's crappy design, but it's a game editor for an older game, and I'm evidently the last tech-savvy admin. That, or a sucker.I copied them onto the desktop, and am trying to copy them from there into the system32 directory. I hit the UAC prompt, and select continue. Then it tells me I need to provide permission for it. I am a local admin (as well as a domain admin).

The old XP way of creating the new user account,logging into it to create a profile, then copying one profile to another doesn't work. Perhaps there is a good reason. In desperation I even enabled the built in administrator account in cmd prompt and logged on as that user. But the copy area is still greyed out.

All our PC are XP Windows 7 What we are finding is for some reason on log off or on startup it is trying to delete a profile but cant and event viewer show errors either with event code 1533 or 1530 Description:Windows cannot delete the profile directory C:Users<username>. This error may be caused by files in this directory being used by another program. DETAIL - The directory is not empty.When it cant delete the profile it the goes to put a local copy of the profile in the users folder as username.001, .002 etc All that is left is a couple of empty folders. (each time the folders are different) the are no security on this folder and they can be delete manually. Now i did google this and i know this is quite a know issue with the profiles not always being delete. I know about the tools used like uphclean etc which help with this problem alot of people face but its there a permanant fix for this or is this just typical behaviour that we all must live with?

Does anyone know if one could designate a user folder location such as E:Data instead of using the users name and being a subdirectory of "Users". I am the ONLY one on my computer - and it would seem much easier to look to the top folder in the E drive than clicking thru E:, users, name, documents, project. I fully realize that I can set up shortcuts, but when you are in an application that wants to place a file somewhere else and presents you with an explorer windows it is a pain. The only method I thought of is using redirection with symbolic links.

Is it difficult to configure all user's profile and folders (Documents Pictures ect.) to be created on another drive or partition? I know I can just create new folders with these name and store my files on another drive ( that's what I have done for years).
This means I have to ignore the folders designed for my account. Even doing it this way programs by default drop stuff in the default folders. I want to create a lean C: drive. I assume this is a registry edit. I am getting ready to clean install WIN7 PRO. If this is possible can anyone tell me how?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a folder that mirrors my user profile in Windows. It is not a shortcut, but an exact duplicate which will cause any changes in either to be affected in sync. If I delete a folder in one, the folder is deleted in the other. The second folder is named "Test". I am unable to change the name on the duplicate profile and it does not show up when I access User Accounts.

For some reason, when changing users to my wife's profile, the desktop has to be prepared each time - as a temporary profile. The folder location has moved from Users/wife to Users/Users/wife and has a lock icon on it. I have tried moving the entire folder as administrator and received a not responding message.Short of a restore in which I will lose data is there a way to 'import' her profile under a new user and then delete the corrupted profile?

The favorites from i.e. were mostly held in 20 folders with sub folders then the rest, loose individual sites. The entire list - folders & loose sites now appear in the Private folder config: START > AaLF personal folder > Favorites. But in the firefox browser, I now see only half the folders from i.e. and also not the loose individual sites. How do I get My Personal Folder Favorites into FF's Bookmarks for easy use??

View 8 Replies View Relatedso I was on my desktop main account and then let my dad log on to a guest account I recently created for him since his laptop isn't working, then when I came back I logged onto my profile I couldn't open any browser, in the case of firefox this came up (firefox can't load host something, missing profile) and chrome (your preferences cannot be read)
then I couln't open some shorcuts (windows cannot find the target. and my utorrent setting reset as well, like if I had never used it, BUT the guest account works perfectly.
I'm able to open firefox with open as administrator but all addons, bookmarks are gone, I can't open the document, picture, and music links on the start menu either

How do I set up sharing so I can use my computer and not be told I can not do certain things. I am on a home group what ever that is. When I try to share the folders I am told I do not have permission to share that folder. And I do not have permission to share or stop sharing the folder.

* PPT - opens fine
* JPG/TIFF/etc - opens fine
* DOC - opens fine
* XLS - opens fine
* ACCDB - opens fine
* PDF - Acrobat Reader opens and then I get a pop-up "Error: Access denied."
To open any PDF I have to drag it from the network folder onto my desktop and open it from there. I can open PDFs from any OTHER network folder; it's just one specific path and subdirectories thereof where they won't open. Doesn't matter which office computer I use, I get the same error anywhere. I have R/RX/W/M (everything but full control) on the network folder. Same permissions as everyone else in my office.
I have:
* Reinstalled Acrobat reader (no luck).
* Disabled offline files (no luck because I didn't even know what that feature was for and never used it.)
* Double-checked permissions on the directory.
Originally I had all my data files in drive D and only programs in drive C. Somehow my old user profile got corrupted and the Backgound wall paper is not working properly. So I created a new admin profile to fix it but now I have a mess.After I created a new admin profile and moved the old users folder/files to the new user , I decided to delete the old profile after everything seems to be working properly . When deleting the old profile I elected to save old user files to my desktop ( fortunately) . I now have a very fragmented system . Some of the folder/files are still under my old username in D drive, nothing in my new user name in D drive plus almost all of the folder/files from the old user ( in drive D) are now in a folder on the desktop where windows elected to place them when I elected to save the folders/files. I really need all the old user folders.I would like to have the Data in either under my old or new username in Drive D instead of fragmented all over the place. I realize I ended up in this situation because I didnt understand fully what windows will do when creating and deleting user profiles.
