View 1 Replies View RelatedI have forgotten my Administrator password. I have tried a couple of the free password crackers, but no luck. Also tried the command net user, with no luck; I get the "Access Denied" message whenever I try this. I've looked at a lot of the threads here, but they all seem to be just a little bit different. All I have access to is this other user profile, and I can't install anything on it without the Admin password. I have the Windows DVD, and have tried a boot repair, but it tells me that the OS is booting correctly (which it is). Where to from here ? It's wasted a helluva lot of time, and I just seem to be going round in circles. How can I give this profile I am using Admin rights ? Don't seem to be able to do anything without the Admin password.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have win 7 ultimate 64bit and a while ago i tampered with file encryption and was dumb enough not to back up my encryption key. However, i remember my password that i used to encrypt those files. I formatted C: and re-installed Win7, just to notice i can't access some of my important files on another drive. So, i thought several possibilities of recovery, and i appreciate if you guys could express if any of the options below are viable.
1) Since i didn't back up my encryption key, where is the original one located? (if i use some recovery program to restore it)
2) Can i use recovery programs to restore pre-format a) user account, or b) encryption key, or c) windows (which actually then works)?
3) I remember the password i used to encrypt the files, so can i just make a new encryption key and kind of import it to my present windows to decrypt those files?
4) Does "Advanced EFS Data Recovery" or some other encryption key recovery tool work for my problem?
A friend of mine has lost his password for his laptop. He has 3 users set up on the laptop and decided to use the same password on all 3. He then forgot it. I have tried to use safe mode but it still asks me for a password. He doesn't have a password reset disk.I'm looking for some software to maybe rest it or delete the password.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a Toshiba laptop with Win 7 Pro. I set up the fingerprint utility early in the setup of the new system, and now I do not have a valid login ID for Window 7. The one I thought was correct doesn't work. So I can login in with my fingerscan, but I cannot login with a password. I would like to be able to login with the password, or to give it to someone who hasn't enrolled fingerprints.
Is there any way for me to remove or change or find a working Win 7 login password?

View 4 Replies View RelatedJust got a call from a friend who recently bought a new laptop running Win 7. He says he was originally able to get to his email (presumably through a selection on his browser) but something changed and he can no longer find a way to access his email. The friend has little or no technical knowledge, so most of my questions resulted in an "I dunno" response.
I plan to visit him tonight for a look-see. I am not up to date with Win 7 features. Is OE still used for mail in Win 7? I use Thunderbird myself, and found it works well in Win 7. Do not know what mail prog. is now a MS standard with Win 7.I will try get more info and to dope things out on my visit. If we know his provider and email ID do you think we can get to his existing account and set up things so he can once again get is Email?
I feel somewhat ashamed to say that somehow I have locked myself out of access to ALL files on of my user accounts on my computer. I can log in but can't even see the original desktop

View 9 Replies View Relatedyou will have to bare with me as my technical knowledge of computers is very limted!Whilst trying to join the local homegroup network, I found out the issue was that my WORK laptop was connected to a domain & unable to share files because of being connected to this EX company domain/network.Naively, without first checking consquences, disconnected from the WORK domain & made the computer use for home & renamed it. Upon doing so, was asked to re-boot.On re-booting, the adminstator login password had resorted back to the one when setup originally?? As my normal password was not being accepted. I must add - I NO LONGER WORK FOR SAID COMPANY AND HAVE NO WAY OF ACCQUIRING PASSWORD/NETWORK/DOMAIN ACCESS DETAILS ANYMORE!I then used the windows password unlocker tool (20 paid) to gain access back to my laptop. Obviously now realising a lot of very important information, emails, all desktop icons & file locations were no longer where they were supposed to be I spent an hour searching everywhere... The hard drive is still saying it has 150gigabyte of use & certain files display more data in 'properties' than is actually displayed in the folder itself. After doing a little research it looks like all my files, emails etc are in this imaginery 'domain' that I am now unable to access at all & no longer have the details to re-join again! A few files are still dotted around where they are supposed to be but a lot no longer accessable. With no access details to re-join this domain, is there any way AT ALL of re-claiming these files? Any 3rd party software, hard drive recovery software? Easiest way,
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have lost the ability to access a mounted drive.Previously, I would mount the drive and it would immediately open, saying it was Q: shared drive...). I have never had a problem before. The drive is from a True crypt encrypted file - I can mount the drive by entering the password to True Crypt, no problem. It mounts, shows up as local disc Q:, but when I click on it, it will not open and I get a message saying 'You don't currently have permission to access this folder'.When I follow the directions to security, and access the properties, I add my user name and tick full control but it the says:An error occured when trying to share Q, access is denied. The shared resource was not created at this time.I have also tried giving permission to 'Everyone' but the same thing happens.(This is complicated by the fact I have been having other problems today.Basically,I used HP Support Assistant to download updates for my laptop, since then I cannot open the devices and printers box - it just hangs and does not populate. I have done system restores, followed instructions from this forum about turning on bluetooth support, printer spooling, resetting explorer, but nothing has worked.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've got a bit of a problem with the x64 Beta of Windows 7 which has got me stumped. When I tried previous builds (including the x86 version of the Beta) it installed fine on my second hard drive in my laptop (Drive E - I have partitions C: and D: on my main hard drive, which runs Windows Vista x86)
But when I install the x64 version of the Beta on Drive E, after Windows 7 boots (which it does fine) then the drive that Windows 7 is on shows in "Computer" as C: - my D: partition also shows up (and is correct) but my Vista drive does not show at all.
Does anyone know a way around this? When I install 7, I just select Drive E to install on as normal, so not really doing anything differnt, except, of course, you can only install the x64 version by booting off of the DVD - whereas when I install the x86 version, I always start setup from within Windows.
If I could resolve this it would be great - I have no problem with installing 7 again if needs be. I should also mention that Vista still boots fine from C.
