View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently installed Windows 7. During installation, there will automatically be a user with administrative privileges. After completing, i created another "Standard User" as I wanted to limit other users for accessing all things. Then i opened the Built in Administrator account (net user administrator /active:yes). I deleted the account that i had created during installation of windows. Then I disabled the original administrator account (net user administrator /active:no)Now i only have Standard user account. whenever I try to open anything 'as an administrator', there will be a prompt in dimmed screen, asking for administrator password and click to yes; but there is not any place to enter the password.

View 2 Replies View RelatedJust got a call from a friend who recently bought a new laptop running Win 7. He says he was originally able to get to his email (presumably through a selection on his browser) but something changed and he can no longer find a way to access his email. The friend has little or no technical knowledge, so most of my questions resulted in an "I dunno" response.
I plan to visit him tonight for a look-see. I am not up to date with Win 7 features. Is OE still used for mail in Win 7? I use Thunderbird myself, and found it works well in Win 7. Do not know what mail prog. is now a MS standard with Win 7.I will try get more info and to dope things out on my visit. If we know his provider and email ID do you think we can get to his existing account and set up things so he can once again get is Email?
I accidentally changed my admin. permissions lost privileges and now I don't have access to my user files. I created a new admin. account and still cant find my old files.

View 9 Replies View Relatedyou will have to bare with me as my technical knowledge of computers is very limted!Whilst trying to join the local homegroup network, I found out the issue was that my WORK laptop was connected to a domain & unable to share files because of being connected to this EX company domain/network.Naively, without first checking consquences, disconnected from the WORK domain & made the computer use for home & renamed it. Upon doing so, was asked to re-boot.On re-booting, the adminstator login password had resorted back to the one when setup originally?? As my normal password was not being accepted. I must add - I NO LONGER WORK FOR SAID COMPANY AND HAVE NO WAY OF ACCQUIRING PASSWORD/NETWORK/DOMAIN ACCESS DETAILS ANYMORE!I then used the windows password unlocker tool (20 paid) to gain access back to my laptop. Obviously now realising a lot of very important information, emails, all desktop icons & file locations were no longer where they were supposed to be I spent an hour searching everywhere... The hard drive is still saying it has 150gigabyte of use & certain files display more data in 'properties' than is actually displayed in the folder itself. After doing a little research it looks like all my files, emails etc are in this imaginery 'domain' that I am now unable to access at all & no longer have the details to re-join again! A few files are still dotted around where they are supposed to be but a lot no longer accessable. With no access details to re-join this domain, is there any way AT ALL of re-claiming these files? Any 3rd party software, hard drive recovery software? Easiest way,

I have never had a problem before. The drive is from a True crypt encrypted file - I can mount the drive by entering the password to True Crypt, no problem. It mounts, shows up as local disc Q:, but when I click on it, it will not open and I get a message saying 'You don't currently have permission to access this folder'.When I follow the directions to security, and access the properties, I add my user name and tick full control but it the says:An error occured when trying to share Q, access is denied. The shared resource was not created at this time.I have also tried giving permission to 'Everyone' but the same thing happens.(This is complicated by the fact I have been having other problems today.Basically,I used HP Support Assistant to download updates for my laptop, since then I cannot open the devices and printers box - it just hangs and does not populate. View 2 Replies View RelatedI've got a bit of a problem with the x64 Beta of Windows 7 which has got me stumped. When I tried previous builds (including the x86 version of the Beta) it installed fine on my second hard drive in my laptop (Drive E - I have partitions C: and D: on my main hard drive, which runs Windows Vista x86)
But when I install the x64 version of the Beta on Drive E, after Windows 7 boots (which it does fine) then the drive that Windows 7 is on shows in "Computer" as C: - my D: partition also shows up (and is correct) but my Vista drive does not show at all.
Does anyone know a way around this? When I install 7, I just select Drive E to install on as normal, so not really doing anything differnt, except, of course, you can only install the x64 version by booting off of the DVD - whereas when I install the x86 version, I always start setup from within Windows.
If I could resolve this it would be great - I have no problem with installing 7 again if needs be. I should also mention that Vista still boots fine from C.
Need assistance on how to Logon: Administrator user account & Password Denied..Problems on computer with Google Chrome Uninstalled everything Google using Revo. I have disabled my Windows 7 log on prompt option, in order to run my "Auto Power on" application to log on automatically and schedule to start my torrent application.I have achieved disabling the Win 7 from asking from log on user name and password by Go to Start and type netplwiz in the Start Search and hit EnterThe User Accounts dialogue box will be displayed.NOTE: The abve image is I have just taken from the web for the reference and it is not the real imageNow uncheck Users must a enter username and password to use this computer option and pressOK. Thats all, now reboot your system and you will never see the login window any more. But after now I want to set back to normal default prompt screen while logon. In order to do this the OS is asking for administrative password, but in that prompt dialogue box, it is not allowing me to go ahead and enter my administrative password by enabling "YES" button(the yes button is disabled).NOTE: The above image is the real issue which I am facingThe actually problem is the dialogue box prompts and asking to enter the administrative password when ever I try installing software, but it is not showing any text input box to enter the password and also the "yes" button in the box is not enabled, only I can able to click "no" button

View 1 Replies View Relatedokay so i have kind of a huge problem. well not really i'm just being a bit dramatic. lol. i have recently gotten a new laptop (hp pavillion dv7-6157cl / windows 7 home premium) and since i set it up i have had a problem signing into facebook. the only time i was able to do so is the day i got it, when my sister installed some add-on but it stopped working less than an hour later. i am able to access the web page but am unable to sign in. at first, i would put in my information to log in and i would see a message saying i had to enable cookies.. so i did that and i still get that lovely message sometimes and i go to my internet options and the cookies are enabled. -_- but what i usually get now is "you must log on to see this page" after i attempt to log in.
i know my log in information is correct because i am able to log in on my android, so that is not the problem. also, i have restored the internet settings to how it originally was and nothing. another problem that i had, which i mention just in case there is some correlation to the problem at hand, is that i was having problems logging into my gmail and Internet account. the problem was that i was checking the box for "stay signed in." so when i didn't check that box i was able to sign into both. oh and i am trying to refrain from using any other web browsers because some have told me that it is easier to get viruses and that they cause unnecessary problems that may easily be avoided.
In Win 7 Home Premium, I apparently did something wrong as I can no longer access the administrator account on my desktop. I am logged in as a guest and have tried just about everything suggested here. I have started in Safe Mode but can't access admin. I have used the installation disk to do a repair and used the activate command in the command prompt. I used the "enableadmin" mentioned on this site. Regardless of what I do here, when I restart I am back in Windows as a Guest. Even doing a system restore made no difference.
It would appear I have to do a clean install but before doing so thought I would ask to see if there is anything else
Many times I have seen the "Access Denied" error while using an administrator account.Especially in disk management utility when I tried to edit disk partitions but couldn't even with administrator privileges. This is not a specific case - I just want to know how, even with administrator privileges, there are still restrictions (access, modify or change)And what can I do to bypass those restrictions?
