Keyboard Issue - Microsoft Wireless Optical Desktop 700 V2
Dec 23, 2009
I tried to type a pound symbol(£), so I pressed shift+3, and got a hash instead of £.
All letter keys work perfectly, as far as I can see, it is only the 2 and 3 keys which dont work.
2 gives me the @ symbol, whilst pressing the @ key gives me ".
3 gives me #, whilst pressing that key gives me , shift pressing the # key gives me |.
What has just happened?
The keyboard is part of a keyboard/mouse set, the Microsoft Wireless Optical Desktop 700 v2, and I am running Win 7 Home Premium x64.

Running Win 7 64 bit on a Dell laptop. Previously had an older MS wireless mouse that worked fine. Went to upgrade to IE 9, and the mouse quit working. After repeated tries at un-connecting/re-connecting the USB, restarting computer, all met with failure. The system still does not recognize the device in the USB port. Have tried other ports as well with same result.
Being an older wireless mouse, went and purchased a newer HP optical wireless mouse. No driver included to install (no software at all). Same results in each port tried (3 in total) as the previous mouse. Device not recognized and not installed. Plug and play is on per what I can find in the system. New batteries were tried for both devices. Placing the mouse and receiver in different distances between while hitting the 'connect' buttons did no change.
Verified the new mouse is on the compatibility list for Win 7 64bit. Tried running the troubleshooter but it takes me continuously to the device page telling me the device is not recognized and not installed. Tried a system restore to yesterday, before I did the IE 9 upgrade/install (via online). Noticed System Restore said 2 windows updates were done at the time I did the IE upgrade. Completed system restore - no change for either mouse after trying all the above again, with system restarts as well.

I was using a Microsoft Wireless Mobile Mouse 3500, which has worked flawlessly for me until now, when it suddenly stopped working. I was simply watching a video embedded in a webpage when it suddenly stopped late on the night of October 3rd (a few hours ago). I've downloaded or installed nothing. The mouse is in use 18 inches from the tower. It's plugged directly into the tower. Thinking I would reinstall the device driver I uninstalled it, but now Windows won't recognize my mouse at all.

Laptop Keyboard types gibberish after plugging in Microsoft Natural Keyboard Pro.I connected my Microsoft Natural Keyboard Pro to the USB port on my Samsung R70 laptop and the device automatically installed itself OK and keyboard worked.BUT I then disconnected the keyboard, reverting to the laptop kepboard, and some of the keys have changed.I was only able to get the laptop keyboard working again by doing a system restore.I checked the keyboard driver and it only has 1 listed.

Since I'm running Windows 7 I thought I'd try to solve this on this forum, although the problem has plagued me all through vista as well but perhaps not nearly as much as it does now in 7.I have a Microsoft 4000 usb (wired) ergonomic "Natural" keyboard. I'll be on a forum typing up something (or in notepad, or anyplace I could possibly type) and all of a sudden the keyboard will stop responding to any key strokes. The only way to get it back to life is to logout and log back in, then the keyboard is working fine (unplugging it from the usb port works as well, although logging out and in is easier for me). When this happens, everything else on the computer is working perfectly fine, the mouse, display etc. It's just the keyboard that basically becomes totally inop. It doesn't matter what key I press they don't respond.
It's not a matter of an older keyboard that the wires might have broken or anything like that as this is a brand new keyboard. I've been using these MS 4000 keyboards for a few years now and have to replace them every year or less due to them wearing out from my fast and excessive typing but it doesn't matter, new or old, at some point, sometimes multiple times per day the keyboard stops responding on me.Any clues as to what might be causing this and more importantly how to prevent it from happening any further?

Admitted tech-tard here. I just got a new computer with windows 7 installed. Came with a wireless keyboard/mouse. I found that (only) in email my keyboard is not responsive. It is slow and types about every third letter. I got a new keyboard and it does the same. It is fine in word or searches--anywhere else. Anyone know if this is a windows 7 problem or is there is a fix? Also, it does it in all email-yahoo, gmail and outlook.

Can't believe what you read nowadays anymore. I bought a Microsoft Wireless Mobile Mouse 4000 to replace an ailing optical laser mouse that's on its last legs, and on the package it said that one "AA" battery would last for one entire year without replacing. What it meant was, it would have took until the next spring before it's time to replace the battery.Apparently, the mouse doesn't think like that, it appears, and when I was looking down at it, there was a red warning light indicating that the single battery had already been exhausted from use. Between surfing the web and playing some Team Fortress 2 now and then this is more than just a "mobile" mouse.

Recently upgraded from XP to 7 HE 64 bit, using a Keysonic ACK 540 RF wireless keyboard.
All was well until last weekend, when I was messing around with the AMD cool n quiet function.. When had issue and had to reboot a couple of times before pc would respond.
When it was back and running, had 2 issues;
black border around the screen image, quickly sorted by changing settings in ATI CCC.
Main issue was that the keyboard had stopped working. I changed the batteries first, still not working.
So, pull out dongle and re-insert... windows could not install driver files (or similar message)
Tried various usb ports, same result. Tried usb memory stick, works in all ports.
So, tried a roll back of Windows 7, now I get code 43, windows has stopped the device. Again, usb memory stick works in all ports.
So, am currently using extension leads for kb / mouse until I can get this sorted
Funnily enough though, when I plugged usb mouse in, the mouse does not work.
So, its not liking something to do with keyboard / mouse maybe?

i just bought a Trust Thinity wireless media keyboard. It comes with no disc or drivers and the usb receiver is just plug and play. When I plug it in it gives me the message "One of the usb devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned."If I keep unplugging and plugging back in it eventually picks up the drivers and installs, unitil I switch off my computer and then its back to square one.
All my motherboard drivers are up to date and bios is on latest version. Iv tryed uninstalling all my USB controllers and restarting. Iv even installed a fresh copy of Windows 7 64bit and 32bit to see if that made any difference but it hasnt.
The keyboard is brand new and I have tryed it on XP and it picked it up, installed the drivers and worked straight away.

I am thinking of getting a wireless keyboard and mouse, probably a Logitech, and wonder if, when I power off the computer, the mouse and keyboard will also turn off? It seems like a setting in Power Setting should offer the choice to do so.

For the past couple of days my keyboard starts to go crazy after about 2 hours worth of use. It will not let me type. And, if I hit a letter it will do something else that it shouldn't. For instance, if I hit the "letter" key it opens the file/save as.
I read a very old post here and tried to do what that said. I changed my batteries, cleaned the keyboard, and even used a different keyboard that isn't wireless. The very same thing happens no matter which keyboard I use.
Sometimes if I wait a few minutes and reboot it is fine again (like right now). This just started happening.

I have recently build a new system , windows 7 ultimate x64 and purchased a microsoft natural ergonomic desktop 7000 keyboard and mouse to use with it , I started it up yesterday for the first time , installed windows useing a wired key/mouse , upon completion shut down and restarted with the USB reciver in place , both worked fine , I then shut down and moved the PC into my office where it was to be used , fired it up , didn't work , tried instaling the drivers no joy , reseting , change batteries , no luck (strange thing though when i install the batteries the battery light glows for a few seconds then fades out , that is on both the mouse and keyboard )I then did a reinstall of windows 7 downloaded & installed the latest x64 drivers but nothing , I have tried it on my other PC (WINDOWS XP SP3) Nothing , i also took the pc back to the other room thinking there may have been interferance from the router etc , but the same nothing .

I have a Logitech DiNovo Edge Wireless Keyboard and a Logitech M510 Wireless Mouse.
I can't get my laptop to wake up by pressing keys on the keyboard or by clicking the mouse. The only way I can get it out of standby is to press a key on the actual laptop or click something with the laptop's built it touchpad.
I already tried looking in Device Manager but there is no Power Management tab for the keyboard or the mouse. There is only a Power Management tab on the laptop's built in keyboard and touchpad.
It's kind of annoying not being able to use the wireless devices to wake up the computer. I've read around that maybe it's because since the computer is on standby, the wireless keyboard and mouse's USB receiver aren't being powered by the laptop.

I have a custon ASUS m48A89GTD MOBO runnin windows 7, and a apple wireless keyboard and magic mouse with a cheap generic USB bluetooth dongle, which runs on a "broadcom 2.0 + USB dongle driver" .The keyboard and mouse pair with no problem, i can restart the pc and re-pair the devices perfectly. However, if i manually remove the dongle and reconnect it, all pairing info is lost and have to re-pair,
While the pc is shut down, the dongle remains lit with a "standby" power supply, If i remove the dongle and reconnect it, even if the pc is off, the problem repeats itself.same goes if i disconnect the pc from the wall outlet.Apparently the dongle has to remain "powered" for it to remember all the pairing and devices info.this is quite annoying, because i have to whip out my wired keyboard to re-pair every time this happens.
