When I boot my PC with win 7 64 bit home prem., It says no keyboard present. It used to find it on rebooting. It is a Microsoft laser 6000 keyboard, wirerless. I have to hook another PS2 keyboard up to enter the setup. Can any one shed some light on this.

So I had a dual boot with XP and Windows 7 going. I just reinstalled XP onto the existing XP partition, so the Windows 7 one is still there. But now, my computer immediately boots into XP and skips the bootscreen. I'm assuming this is because my fresh install of XP overwrote the boot.ini file which makes the PC think that there is only 1 OS installed, when in fact, there are two.
I googled and ran accross this post (Windows 7 boot.ini file - Windows 7 Forums) and it is the exact problem I am having. The only thing here is that I don't know how (as seen in the fifth post of that link) he got into Windows 7 to install EasyBCD. Can anyone tell me exactly how to get the bootmenu back?
At the moment I'm dual booting XP & win7 32bit (7000) on different C & D partitions (same drive).
First Q? would there be a problem dual booting xp & win7 RC, 32 & 64bit together?
Q2, can I still install the win7 RC by mounting the image from XP (as i did with the earlier version)?
Q3, would I be better to format my D partition first from XP before mounting the image of the RC. ( because it still holds the old version of win7 on it)
or just mount win7 RC & let that do the formatting itself?
this is the scenario: i have windows7 installed on a single partition 500 gb hd. i want to install ubuntu as dual boot. (i have done this before but not with Windows 7.) can i go into disk management and reduce the win 7 volume by say 50 gb. format it fat32 and install ubuntu. and still have dual-boot? thanks in advance. i plan on using either ubuntu 9.04 or 9.10.
I just built a new system and I'm moving on to installing the OSs. I would like to dual boot Ubunto and Windows 7 Home Pro (both 64 bit). I've never done this before and I'm a little nervous about partitioning the drive. I've been reading this how-to on Lifehacker as a guide but I'm still unsure of how best to size the partitions of my 1TB drive. I'll primarily be using Win7 and running a fair number of apps on that platform while Ubuntu is primarily being installed as my first foray into playing with Linux. Any direction would be welcome.
So I'm a computer engineering student and I would love to be able to dual-boot Windows 7 and Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) on my Dell computer. However, I'm worried things will go terribly wrong and I'll end up screwing my computer up. I'm no expert (yet) when it comes to installation of OS's, partitioning, etc., but I'm pretty sure I could figure most of it out... if I had a guide.
Does anyone have/has anyone made a step-by-step Windows 7/OS X dual-boot procedure that is relatively simple to understand?
* As a note: I will be installing Windows 7 from a CD in about a week when I delete my Vista partition (after backing up all of my files). I'm assuming I would have to order Snow Leopard (a single use license) in order to install it!
I posted here earlier (a couple weeks ago) about a painless installation of Windows 7 on a resized C Drive, which I partitioned into into a C Drive (Vista) and W Drive (Win 7).
All was fine until yesterday - I had been able to login into and out of both operating systems without drama - when out of the blue, for no apparent reason, whenever I try and log onto the Vista operating system, it allows me to logon as Rod with my correct password, but after the logon screen I get the "Preparing your Desktop" and and am presented with a Desktop and icons - but not for me! I get a bubble pop up out of the System Tray that says "Windows had trouble loading your Profile and has loaded up a temporary profile. Contact your administrator".
That would be me! I for the life of me don't know what happened. I have created no new users, nor amended any existing ones. Though, when using Windows 7 earlier in the day, I had to give access rights and permissions to All authenticated Users in order to access and use files on a separate (D) Drive.
Will this have screwed up my User Profile and login to Vista? How?
I've had my P55 LE for about a month and a half now, but I just bought a 120GB OCZ Agility SSD that I want to migrate my Windows 7 install to from my 300GB HDD. I created a backup image using Norton Ghost 15.0 on a third backup drive, and restored the image to the SSD. Alas when I went to boot, I got the BOOTMGR NOT FOUND error, so I tried to reboot with the Windows 7 install DVD in the drive to fix the problem.
The DVD drive is my #1 boot priority drive, and it started right up, detected an OS error, and decided to reboot to begin the fix. Although this time, it prompted me for a "Press any key to boot from CD/DVD..." and my keystrokes were not detected. I tried several times and I could not boot from the DVD! I had issues seeing my USB mouse/keyboard when booting from Acronis TrueImage 2010 Home Trial (but weirdly, THAT had no issue with the "Press any key..." prompt).
Any suggestions? I would love to fix my Windows 7 clone and get up and running on the beautiful SSD.
i want to reinstall my windows 7. i made the cd already. the problem is, when it is asking me to press a button to boot from cd,my keyboard freezes.i cant press anything with it.i can choose the disc in the booting menu, but cant do anything with it.
I have Windows 7 installed on my Asrock Ion 330 system as a HTPC. It works great. I am using a Logitech Bluetooth keyboard with a BT dongle that goes in the Asrock's USB port. Well I am not able to wake the PC from Sleep mode with the BT keyboard. I have another Logitech wireless keyboard that uses a USB 27 Mhz receiver that is able to wake the computer from sleep. So I don't think it's an issue with my USB hubs not being powered in sleep and thus able to wake the system. The keyboard that is able to wake the computer does have a On/OFF button in the corner whereas the BT one does not.
I don't know if this has anything to do with it. Curiously under Device Manager when I look at the two keyboard properties the wireless one has a Power Management tab with an option to wake from sleep which is checked, whereas the BT keyboard does not have a Power Management tab available. I am wondering if this is a problem inherent in BT, or if I need to get a new BT dongle, or what.
USB keyboard is not recognized while booting with windows 7 DVD,
I wanted to format my machine by booting from Windows 7 DVD. At that moment, my USB keyboard is not recognized and I wasnt able to press and character. As a workaround, I managed to plug a PS2 keyboard and it is recognized and worked fine!
What settings in the BIOS might be related to this issue?
I have tried repeatedly to get my USB keyboard and mouse to function after booting into windows 7 64 bit.I also have one ps/2 keyboard Port .There is USB mouse attached to that via USB - ps/2 adapter ( do not yet have a ps/2 keyboard)There is no ps/2 mouse port on the motherboard. My keyboards and mouse work fine in bios and legacy usb is enabled. The motherboard is an asus striker 2 extreme and in addition i have a striped Hd on which there is some data i dont have backed up and need to access.
The USB ports work only in Bios. I have tried booting in safe mode and with a normal boot, i just get stuck at the password screen. How do i deal with this problem if i have do not have a ps2 mouse port on my motherboard?
My other problem is that all my data is on a striped raid configuration and probably not that easy to access otherwise i'd pull the hd and retreive the info. Most of my data has been backed up, but i do have some work data that i need.
really have never seen anything quite like this. When I boot up my PC and it gets to the desktop, a program window pops up and the mouse and keyboard will not work. Therefore, I cannot clear the program from the desktop or go anywhere to run scans or the like to see if the problem is virus related. When I go into safe mode, it does the same thing. I tried restoring to last known configuration with no System Restore shows no restore points. I can't do anything including get you information on my PC. I am running Windows 7 32 bit on a HP/Compaq DC 7600 C/PD 950. I am running Avast Anti-Virus Suite Pro. Regardless once on the desktop, I can not go anywhere. What the heck? Right now I am working on my laptop.
I've just built a new core-i7 system running Win7 64 bit, but none of my existing wireless adapters are able to get a working internet connection. I have an Airlink wirelessN, Dlink wireless g, and an Encore PCI card. None of it worked, and after some Googling, I found that this is a widespread problem - many of these devices simply do not work in Windows 7 64 bit.
I have no clue if this is a drivers problem that simply will take some time for manufacturers to address. But Windows 7 beta has already been out for a while, so this is discouraging.
Are there any existing known reliable wireless adapters (specific models) that work with Windows 7 64 bit? I'm desperate to find one that works, preferably something I can get at a store (Frys or Best Buy) so I can test it immediately.
There is no ethernet port in my apartment, so I need a wireless card that will work without the need to install drivers from the internet first. Are there any wireless-G cards out there that will work with 64-bit Windows 7 out of the box?
I have an Asus P5K-e/WiFi AP and am interested in installing Windows 7. I looked on Asus' support site and they dont have a wireless driver for Windows 7, only a LAN driver.
Anyone come across a wireless driver for this mobo for Windows 7?
Whenever I connect to my wireless internet, be it when booting up the computer or changing to it via the modem cables, it refuses to work. The only way it works is if I click on the network computer in the bottom right corner and then troubleshoot for a couple mins, until the computer automatically fixes the problem. Im guessing a service or something isn't working.Ive tried buying new modem to wireless modem cables but still no luck. Obviously using Windows 7 (Ultimate)
Admitted tech-tard here. I just got a new computer with windows 7 installed. Came with a wireless keyboard/mouse. I found that (only) in email my keyboard is not responsive. It is slow and types about every third letter. I got a new keyboard and it does the same. It is fine in word or searches--anywhere else. Anyone know if this is a windows 7 problem or is there is a fix? Also, it does it in all email-yahoo, gmail and outlook.
There is a new one on order. But to turn on my wireless I have to hold down the 'fn' key and also 'f2' as the keyboard is not working is there any other way of turning the wireless card on?
Recently upgraded from XP to 7 HE 64 bit, using a Keysonic ACK 540 RF wireless keyboard.
All was well until last weekend, when I was messing around with the AMD cool n quiet function.. When had issue and had to reboot a couple of times before pc would respond.
When it was back and running, had 2 issues;
black border around the screen image, quickly sorted by changing settings in ATI CCC.
Main issue was that the keyboard had stopped working. I changed the batteries first, still not working.
So, pull out dongle and re-insert... windows could not install driver files (or similar message)
Tried various usb ports, same result. Tried usb memory stick, works in all ports.
So, tried a roll back of Windows 7, now I get code 43, windows has stopped the device. Again, usb memory stick works in all ports.
So, am currently using extension leads for kb / mouse until I can get this sorted
Funnily enough though, when I plugged usb mouse in, the mouse does not work.
So, its not liking something to do with keyboard / mouse maybe?
i just bought a Trust Thinity wireless media keyboard. It comes with no disc or drivers and the usb receiver is just plug and play. When I plug it in it gives me the message "One of the usb devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned."If I keep unplugging and plugging back in it eventually picks up the drivers and installs, unitil I switch off my computer and then its back to square one.
All my motherboard drivers are up to date and bios is on latest version. Iv tryed uninstalling all my USB controllers and restarting. Iv even installed a fresh copy of Windows 7 64bit and 32bit to see if that made any difference but it hasnt.
The keyboard is brand new and I have tryed it on XP and it picked it up, installed the drivers and worked straight away.
I am thinking of getting a wireless keyboard and mouse, probably a Logitech, and wonder if, when I power off the computer, the mouse and keyboard will also turn off? It seems like a setting in Power Setting should offer the choice to do so.
For the past couple of days my keyboard starts to go crazy after about 2 hours worth of use. It will not let me type. And, if I hit a letter it will do something else that it shouldn't. For instance, if I hit the "letter" key it opens the file/save as.
I read a very old post here and tried to do what that said. I changed my batteries, cleaned the keyboard, and even used a different keyboard that isn't wireless. The very same thing happens no matter which keyboard I use.
Sometimes if I wait a few minutes and reboot it is fine again (like right now). This just started happening.
I have purchased a new Dell PC and a K260 Logitech wireless keyboard. I can't see if I'm on CAPS LOCK - it doesn't apear to have any light indication showing which is important when inserting passwords.
I have recently build a new system , windows 7 ultimate x64 and purchased a microsoft natural ergonomic desktop 7000 keyboard and mouse to use with it , I started it up yesterday for the first time , installed windows useing a wired key/mouse , upon completion shut down and restarted with the USB reciver in place , both worked fine , I then shut down and moved the PC into my office where it was to be used , fired it up , didn't work , tried instaling the drivers no joy , reseting , change batteries , no luck (strange thing though when i install the batteries the battery light glows for a few seconds then fades out , that is on both the mouse and keyboard )I then did a reinstall of windows 7 downloaded & installed the latest x64 drivers but nothing , I have tried it on my other PC (WINDOWS XP SP3) Nothing , i also took the pc back to the other room thinking there may have been interferance from the router etc , but the same nothing .
I have a Logitech DiNovo Edge Wireless Keyboard and a Logitech M510 Wireless Mouse.
I can't get my laptop to wake up by pressing keys on the keyboard or by clicking the mouse. The only way I can get it out of standby is to press a key on the actual laptop or click something with the laptop's built it touchpad.
I already tried looking in Device Manager but there is no Power Management tab for the keyboard or the mouse. There is only a Power Management tab on the laptop's built in keyboard and touchpad.
It's kind of annoying not being able to use the wireless devices to wake up the computer. I've read around that maybe it's because since the computer is on standby, the wireless keyboard and mouse's USB receiver aren't being powered by the laptop.
