Remote Desktop Connection But No More Keyboard

Sep 9, 2009

This morning I was working in eplorer to move some files, and Windows 7 asked me if I wanted to turn on filtering mode, and I confirmed.

Now when I use my remote desktop session from a windows xp machine that has always worked, I now only have control with my mouse, but no more keyboard input.

I do not know if the filtering mode has anything to do with it, but I cannot figure out why I cannot use my keyboard anymore in RDP. Funny thing is, it DOES work when I login to windows 7, I can type my password but when the desktop is there, I cannot use the keyboard anymore..

Any suggestions anyone?

Mouse Visible Under Remote Desktop?

Sep 9, 2011

We have recently upgraded to Windows 7 at work. Our work have enabled access to my main work machine which is still on XP. I have just logged in, and for some reason the mouse icon was still visible on the machine and it was really annoying. So, here how I was connected:

MyLaptop (Windows7 Home) > Secure RDC onto Windows XP > RDC onto Windows 7 Pro

Before the last machine was upgraded, there was no extra mouse visible, but suddenly there is another mouse icon following my mouse icon.

Is there anyway this extra mouse icon can be removed?]

Can't Setup A Remote Desktop Connection

Apr 25, 2011

I have been trying for a very long time to set up a Remote Desktop Connection to my work server, and am unable to set it up and connect. The network administrator gave me the IP address for the server and I have double checked that it is correct. He told me not to add anything else to the number when I set it up, but Windows Remote Desktop Connection setup wizard says it must have "https://" before the IP number so I put that in.I always get this error: Quote: An error occurred. Contact your workplace administrator for assistance. I thought it might be a Windows Firewall issue, so I went to check if it was allowed. Remote Desktop Connection Windows 7 how to add it because when I clicked to add another program, it was not listed as an option.I read this tutorial Remote Desktop Connection (RDC) - Network and the first photo under "Option Two" in that post shows Advanced System Settings with a section on Remote Desktop. On my computer it only shows the "Remote Assistance" section and does not show "Remote Desktop" at all, and I'm not sure why.My ISP is AT&T. I have DSL with a wireless router. Is it possible that AT&T is blocking the port I need to use? I connect to the server at my office and know my credentials are good, but I don't even get to the point of being able to enter them when I try to set up the Remote Desktop Connection at home.

Cannot Establish Remote Desktop Connection?

Nov 8, 2009

I cannot establish a remote desktop connection between two computers in my home LAN running Windows 7.I have two computers in my home network, VAIO and SCALEO. On VAIO I installed Windows 7. On SCALEO I installed both Windows XP and Windows 7 as dual boot configuration. The Windows 7 version I am using is the free downloadable evaluation installation of Windows 7 Enterprise. Both installations are activated. When I run Windows XP on SCALEO (and Windows 7 on VAIO), I can establish RDC between both computers, both ways, without any problems. When I run Windows 7 on SCALEO (hence, on both machines), establishing RDC fails on either machine with the following message:"Your credentials did not work. The credentials that were used to connect to ... (VAIO/SCALEO) did not work. Please enter new credentials."I have followed all instructions in the tutorial of this forum how to set up a computer for remote desktop connection. I can see both machines in their network folders. I successfully established a homegroup where both machines share data. I am able to share folders on both machines and map them as network drives. I am able to copy data between both machines.

Sound And Mouse Choppy After Using Remote Desktop

Dec 1, 2009

I have a peculiar problem that seems to be related to Remote Desktop Connection in Windows 7.

I connect to my Windows 7 Enterprise x64 RTM box using a Remote Desktop Connection.
When I return to the console session (I log on to the computer when I' in front of it again), the sound crackles and stutters and the mouse is jerky and non-responsive when I browse the Internet in Internet Explorer (or Firfox).

If I log off, or reboot, the problem goes away.

This problem occurs in any music player (in Windows Media Player, or Winamp), and it seems unrelated to the sound card, because I tried two different USB sound cards and heard the same problem. The problem occurs with any mouse also.

Here's what I've tried:

Installed the latest Realtek drivers – a scan from PCPitstop indicates the drivers are up-to-date – no change in the problem.

Tried disabling the NVIDIA Hi-def components in Device Manager – no change in the problem.

Tried using 2 different external sound cards – the problem is the same with any sound card or device.

Installed the Codec lite pack – no change in the problem.

As per http://www.intel.com/technology/serialata/ahci.htm, I tried setting the Msahci value from 3 to 0 – no change in the problem.

Disabled speaker effects (enhancements) – no change in the problem.

Reset the BIOS to the factory default settings – no change in the problem.

Tried using different apps to play music –the problem occurs in all programs.

Ran Hijack this to make sure nothing questionable is running.

use Shell Ex View (http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/shexview.html) and disable all the "Groove" extensions.

Remote Desktop Connection - Save File As XPS

Jan 4, 2011

I'm having some trouble with remote desktop connection. I have successfully configured my desktop to remotely access it. But every time I start up remote desktop connection it prompts me to "Save File As ... *.xps". The application is driven by the mstsc.exe process, so it starts up when I start my remote session. If I try to save it, it immediately prompts me again for the same thing. Also my One Note Application starts up on my client pc (Laptop) and is also triggered by the RDP connection process.

Here is what I have already tried:
- Tried to just end the Save As .. Application thru windows task manager, but since it is driven by the mstsc.exe, It also closes the remote session
- I Also checked my remote desktop settings on my laptop to check and see if there are any programs listed to start up when I connect, but no progams are set!

Also every once in a while it actually starts up without the prompt and I actually experience a perfect and smooth remote session!

Can't Connect To 1 Of 2 Printers When Using Remote Desktop Connection

Jan 9, 2013

We have 2 printers (one color, one b/w) in our office and 4 local computers.

The printers are connected by USB to one of the computers (a PC running XP) and they are shared on the local network. All of the 4 local computers can print to either printer with no problem.

The problem is that when I use remote desktop connection from one of the PCs (the only one that has Windows 7) I can only print to 1 of the 2 printers (the color).

When I use remote desktop connection from any of the other 3 computers then I have no problem printing to either printer.

I've tried speaking to the IT guys who run our offsite server and they have been no help (despite being expensive) so I'm trying to troubleshoot as much stuff on my end as possible to avoid spending a crazy amount on them. what I can check, or what other information I can provide to make diagnosing this problem easier?

Remote Desktop Connection Works Intermittently

Feb 11, 2013

I hired a networking person to enable remote desktop connection between 2 computers for me. The computer I am trying to connect to uses a switch to run internet between 2 computers but I only connect to one of those computers. No-ip is set up on the computer I am trying to connect to to standardize the ip addresses and I am connecting using port 3389. What happens when I try and connect is as follows. If I have not connected for many hours (maybe 5 or more) remote desktop connection will not connect. In order for it to work I have to go to my logmein account and log into the computer there first then after logging out of the logmein connection and waiting a couple minutes I can log in using the remote connection fine. Then, for the rest of the day I can use the remote connection with no problems.

In the morning when I try again, it won't connect, I have to go to logmein once again and then it works. I thought maybe it had to do with a power setting so I created my own power profile and set everything to never sleep, hibernate or do anything except run and run at maximum performance...But that didn't affect it, I still can't log in using remote desktop connection after a long wait. I have also looked in the logs for both my Virus software (AVG) and the computer to see if anything sticks out but AVG firewall log stopped logging in November and I can't seem to reset it and the local cpu event logs don't show any issues with remote desktop connection.

Remote Desktop Connection / Network Question

Oct 12, 2009

1. What's the difference between inputting the Remote computer's IP address and inputting the Remote computer's name? When I put in the IP, it connects fine. When I put in the name, it does not connect.

2. When I click on Desktop>Network, I see 2 names for a network computer. This networked computer has been renamed from A to B, but both A and B appear in the network. Why? And how do I remove the old name (A) from the network? I think it confuses the Remote Desktop Connection Client.

Unable To Establish Remote Desktop Connection Windows 7?

Dec 30, 2011

I am trying to access my work PC remotely after doing a fresh install of windows and receiving the below:"Remote desktop can't connect to the remote computer for one of these reasons:

1) Remote access to the server is not enabled
2) The remote computer is turned off
3) The remote computer is not available on the network

Make sure the remote computer is turned on and connected to the network, and that remote access is enabled."I have established some sort of VPN connection through the browser with work (sorry I am not very technically inclined, icon says "network connect" in the taskbar and shows I am conected), our techie guy said then just run Remote Desktop and type in my computer name and should connect, which it is not.
