Unexpected BSOD Error Message On Windows 7 Startup

Jul 3, 2012

I am not computer savvy when it comes to these sorts of things. The heading states it all and am wanting a bit more of an insight at any problems that may be occurring etc.. Also, as of late I have noticed that my DVD player refuses at times to read a DVD movie or game title, and only after a few open / closes it seems to work. - x86 (32-bit) or x64 ? Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit - the original installed OS on the system? As Above - an OEM or full retail version? Retail Version

BSOD When Using UTorrent On 64bit Windows 7

Mar 7, 2012

I seem to be getting BSODs when running uTorrent. This has only started recently. Usually this is when i leave it on schedule mode, set to download overnight. Today I have tested and found that with schedule turned off and uTorrent running, BSODs still occur. I cannot be sure it is uTorrent, but it seems to only happen when it's open and downloading. I am currently running dskchk for bad sectors but as this is a second HDD supplied by the laptop maker. OEM Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit. I have updated uTorrent in the recent weeks/FONT]

Random BSOD's In Windows 7 64bit?

Feb 10, 2013

I recently bought some new ram *about a week ago* and since then I have been getting random BSOD's, but I'm not totally sure that its actually the ram as most of the time the PC runs just fine, mostly the BSOD's happen when I just turn on the PC from it being off *a cold start ?*.

System:
PII 955BE @ 3.9GHz
12GB DDR3 Cas 8 1600MHz (1 set of 2 x 2GB and another set of 2 4GB all running at v1.5 8-8-8-24-2T and Auto in the Bios)
Gigabyte HD4890OC
ASRock 990FX Extreme

I'm going to run memtest later tonight and see what that brings up and I'm going to check my system drivers etc, I'd just like some input from the community on this issue . I'm hoping its not my motherboard .

BSOD Soon After Installing Windows 7 (64bit) On Dell XPS 400

May 21, 2012

Recently I have been trying to upgrade one of our computers (Dell Dimension 9150/XPS 400) to Windows 7. While this Dell model is old, a brief search on the internet shows that several people have gotten Windows 7 to work on this model just fine, so I'm inclined to believe this should be doable. I have performed multiple clean installs of Windows 7 Professional (64-bit) on this desktop, but inevitably I will eventually start getting a BSOD. When the computer restarts, I get the notification "Windows has recovered from an unexpected shutdown" with the following details:

Problem signature: Problem Event Name: BlueScreen
OS Version: 6.1.7601.2.1.0.256.48
Locale ID: 1033 Additional information about the problem: BCCode: 24
BCP1: 00000000001904FB

BCP3: FFFFF88002AFEB70
BCP4: FFFFF800028EC185
OS Version: 6_1_7601
Service Pack: 1_0

Here are download links to the files that "describe the problem": Minidump file & Sysdata file.

The BSOD is kind of a crap shoot; on some installs of Windows 7 it happens occasionally while on others it happens as soon as the desktop loads. The problem gets worse (or more likely to occur) the farther I progress in "setting up" the computer. Here is a general procedure I have been following:

1) Clean install of Windows 7 Professional (64 bit) on hardrive
2) Install all the Windows 7 Updates (the only drivers installed are those recommended via Windows Update as Dell offers none for this computer on Windows 7)
3) Install Microsoft Security Essentials
4) Install Microsoft Office Professional 2010
5) Install Microsoft Updates for Microsoft Office
6) Install other programs I need

One time I got all the way to step 6 and was ready to transfer backed up files to the desktop when I started getting a continual looping of the BSOD...with the most recent install, I only got to step 3 before the first BSOD occurred. I have tried running CHKDSK but that does not find anything nor seem to prevent any problems. I ran a memory test via advanced setup (where you press F8 while the OS boots) and that said something like "Problems were detected...you will need to contact your hardware provider" or something to that effect.

However, no specific information was revealed; perhaps a summary is supposed to come up once you reach your desktop but this was during an install where the BSOD was continually looping so I never could see the desktop for more than a few seconds. Reinstalling the original Windows XP OS doesn't seem to fix the problem; regardless of OS, drivers, or other programs installed, the BSOD inevitably shows up and does not seem tied to a specific update, program, or action.

BSOD When Trying To Install Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit

Jan 28, 2011

I've build a computer and want to install windows 7 x64 on it. But when I start the setup I allways get a bsod: Most of the time with this error: 0x00000124. I also had these: 0x0000007F, 0x0000009C, 0X0000007E, 0x0000000A

These are my specifications:
Mobo: MSI P45 Diamond
CPU: Intel core 2 Quad Q9650 3GHz
RAM: Kingston HyperX (KHX1600C9D3K3/6GX), I've put in 2 X 2GB in slot 1 and 3 atm.
HD: 1 Maxtor I, 1 Maxtor II (tried seperatly, no success)
Graphics: Powercolor radeon HD 6850 PCS+
PSU: OCZ ModXstream Pro, 600W

The files are loaded from the DVD, then I see the windows logo. After that I usually get a BSOD. Right before I have to do the settings and create partitions. Very rarely I can get past it and start the installation, but then a blue screen comes up anyway. When I try in Safe mode, it loads drivers until driver.sys. Then it just stops.

Right now, I've put only one memory stick in (2GB) and I tested it with memtest86+, there were no errors. I also checked the hard drive for errors. I was able to successfully install windows 2000 professional.
I also tried to install Windows XP, but that didn't work either. Could it be my graphics card? If so, what can I do about it. I don't have onboard graphics.

Windows 7 64bit BSOD With Nothing In Mini-dump?

Jan 27, 2013

My W7 64 bit PC has BSOD'd twice in the last week. I am just learning this fascinating part of computers and am still very much in the dark, however I made sure that my OS was configured to create a dump file, and it was however there is nothing in the Minidump folder, as a matter of fact it doesnt exist. So much fro configuring the OS to create a dump file on a crash.I DL'd Bluescreenview and it showed nothing. The message at the bottom of the BSOD mentioned something about creating crash dump files but it seemed that nothing happened, there was no progress indicator, just a whole bunch of nothing. I left it for some time to see if the message or anything changed and it didnt. I restarted the PC and went hunting for the Minidump report, or any report for that matter.

BSOD Windows 7 64bit Fresh Install Custom I5

Jun 28, 2012

Recently I upgraded from an old core2 duo to an i5-2500 quad 3.3GHz, 16gb Patriot ram, Asus motherboard. I noticed the first time I booted up something was wrong with the voltages for my PSU (Corsair 520w modular) which I had used previously. I didn't get the details of it time before Win7 started. After that I have noticed the fan died in my PSU, so I'm not sure if this is causing my BSODs. I am using an NIC and onboard Audio, and a Geforce 430 video card. The details of my bsod are below. This has been ongoing for weeks now and it's very annoying. I recently updated my Win7, restarted hoping that would fix it. Also I've scanned with AVG, SuperAntiSpyware, and Malware Bytes. I am out of ideas since I have a new install of Win7 64bit.

BSOD When Dual Booting Windows Vista 32bit And Windows 7 64bit

Jun 25, 2012

I have another laptop and its a HP 2230s. I originally installed Windows 7 professional 64bit. But I have swapped the ram into my Lenovo ThinkPad. So the HP now has 2GB. I created a new partition and installed Vista Business 32bit on it. When I started the install windows .exe program in Windows 7, everything went well until it rebooted. When I rebooted, windows said something like:

Windows Boot manager:

The system cannot boot because of a recent change to files/hardware. (Something like that). Insert your windows disk.

So I just rebooted my laptop with the vista disk inside and installed. After, when everything was working, I wanted to go to the Windows 7 partition to un-install programs and copy some files over to the vista partition, the laptop just booted into vista.

I downloaded the easy BCD editior and visual BCD editor. (in the vista partition), I clicked the auto fix in visual BCD editor. It detected my windows installations. At the boot screen, I can select either Windows 7 or Vista. But when I select 7, the same error message appears.

Then I rebooted my laptop with a USB containing the Windows 7 (64bit) recovery tools. After, I don't have the message again. But when it goes to the starting windows animation, it stops halfway and it gets a BSOD. I tried debugging mode, it worked.

I found out that the larger partition, (Windows 7) is the C: drive. But when I boot into the smaller partition, (Windows Vista), the drive is also C:!. So I don't know what I could do.

I insert the windows 7 disk and repaired my installation, it just boots into windows 7. But when I insert the Vista disk and repaired my installation, it just boots into Vista!

BSOD When Trying To Dual Boot With XP Pro 64bit

Dec 23, 2009

I've followed your steps and have created a partition of 50GB for installing XP Pro 64bit.

However, when I boot from my Windows C.D, it loads up the Windows files but then I get a blue screen error....

A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

If this is the first time you've seen this Stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:

Check to be sure you have adequate disk space. If a driver is identified in the Stop message, disable the driver or check with the manufacturer for driver updates. Try chaging video adapters.

Check with your hardware vendor for any BIOS updates. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use Safe Mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 to select Advanced Startup Options, and then select Safe Mode.

Technical Information:

*** STOP: 0x0000007E (0xC0000005, 0xF85F9AD9, 0xF898B7A4, 0xF898B4A4)

What could the problem be?

Ntoskrnl.exe Causing BSOD On New 64bit Laptop

Dec 21, 2011

I've got this new laptop last month and after two weeks got my first BSOD. I've done chkdsk, sfc, and last know good config only to have it back again every 3 days or so. I don't have restore point far back enough and don't think I've installed anything that could cause this. The driv'ers are up-to-date, and I don't have Norton or AVG just Kaspersky Internet Security as my antivirus. But I do play LOTRO but at the lowest graphics quality. I don't have any CDs and the laptop didn't come with a Windows disk so I can't repair or reinstall it to its factory settings. Sometimes the BSOD appears when I starting shutting down, otherwise its random.

64bit Windows, original installation, OEM, age of machine < 1 year, have not reinstalled the OS. I've been having frequent BSOD problems lately. I've already tried updating my graphics card driver, BIOS, running chkdsk multiple times, running a virusscan and malware scan, and memtest. Chkdsk usually finds and fixes some corrupt values/clusters after a crash, but it does not stop the problem from reoccurring. The BSOD message mentions a "kernel_inpage_error", and the most recent crash named the ntfs.sys file.
