Some updates like this IE8 security update that was released the 14th, we're not getting in Windows update. Why?
Shouldn't we at least get important or critical security updates even in the lastest builds? I could see why maybe not other less important updates but critical security ones?
And when I try to install it says it's not applicable to my system but updates like this one should clearly be applicable, no?

For the past day windows wants to install the same 4 updates over and over, I have windows update set to download and let me choose when to install.
I can't understand why I even need them, as I uninstalled net framework. Notice how the update at 8:17 AM., KB2656368, is the same as one of the 4 updates installed at 7:47 PM. Windows wants to install the same four kb files again. How do I stop this?

Does any know how to keep a SSID on top, under Manage Wireless Networks?. I know when the users add other SSID's, they go on top of the older ones. Over time our school SSID is pushed lower and lower, so when a user brings in their school issued laptop, the laptop tries looking for the SSID's that are first in line as their cached profile is logging in. Thus, our Proxy Server doesnt authenticate them, therefore they dont get internet access. I need to keep our school SSID on top. We are using Server 2008 R2 with Windows 7 and a handful of XP's and Active Directory.
how important the file timestamps are.Since copying my files from drives to drives I've noticed that these have been altered. I have some where the files have a modified time before a created time.I've lost my original created times. I've had some files that were created in 2004 now showing as created in 2012.
I recently reinstalled Windows 7 last night because it had kernel errors (the windows 7 interface, shell, exc. crapped out). I backed everything up to HD2 and then deleted everything off HD1 and installed. I was tired and never thought about it until now... Is it bad to install windows 7 on an un-formatted hard drive? Because I'm noticing this thing doesn't copy/paste/delete files as fast as it previously has. On a side note; wow did you know how many services and processes eat up memory by simply installing your everyday programs? This clean install of Windows 7 Ultimate has 1/3rd of the processes that it used to run!
I was manually deleting a virus on my computer because no antivirus software could detect it and in the process I accidentally deleted a couple of system files, i think one of them was spider.exe, now my programmes wont open properly, only some of them will open and i have to right click and run as administrator for it to actually open, i really don't want to restore my computer, does anyone have any suggestions. I'm running windows 7, starter pack of that makes any difference?
By a mistake today, a partition (400 GB) containing important data was deleted. The partion is now restored to NTFS format.how to restore some of the lost data.
Why is CCleaner trying to delete some of my important programs? Like Google earth, Skype, MS Anti malware which is program for the safty of my computer, and a dozen more important programs.
I installed Tuneup utilities software yesterday, it asked me to Optimize my systemBut today as i checked for my hidden folder in windows Drive (c) ,it had disappearedNow as to how i can restore that folder as it contained important data including photos, files, videos
I have some big problem.I m using windows 7 ultimate 32-bit, Before 1 month i installed one software name "My Secret folder" [URL]. The main function of this software is to hide or lock important file in his own folder. This software does NOT encrypt file,So I Hide my important 7-GB data using this softwares and recently my computer was attacked by a virus. So i formatted only my C:// drive, after formatted C:// drive My laptop work completely fine but icouldn't find my important 7-Gb data in d:// drive.
This folder is still in hidden mode and occupy my 7-GB space. I read all user guide manual from this software's website [URL] but I can't find this solution. I tried to see through CMD and and tools>folder option>(uncheck two option) 1. Show hidden files and folder 2. Hide protected operating system files. Using these two method I can't fine my hidden file. How I can get my folders back.
I have a Toshiba Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit laptop. It started malfunctioning really badly, to the point where we pretty much lost a lot of programs and such. It was the work of a very impolite virus. When you bring your mouse over the file that has all our important stuff, it says "Folder is Empty" So I decided to transfer all via a USB port, to move them from my sister's Toshiba to mine. Everything moved like normal, we had to wait a few minutes because there was a lot of file transfer.
I frequently backup files for other users and start w/ a new clean OS. I tried looking for some articles online, but none were really informative for me - wasn't what I was looking for.
I was wondering if I could get some help here. Doesn't really matter the OS, mostly XP, Vista, or even Windows 7, but I guess the file structure btw. Vista and Windows 7 arn't really much diff.
Yesterday my laptop had an update for me, so I attempted to install it. However, when it was done I was told that the installation failed. I restarted the computer and attempted to install it again, but it still failed. I looked into more detail on what I was installing, which was Microsoft .NET Framework 4 KB2468871, and went to the site it was based on and attempted to install it from there. When the setup came up however, I received this message:
"KB2468871v2 does not apply, or is blocked by another condition on your computer."
I'm not entirely sure what this means, and since this is apparently an important update for my laptop, I ask if there is a way I can solve the problem (also it's getting irritating to have my laptop keep on reminding me to update something that fails to update). My laptop has Norton 360.
my computer is missing important files from the windows folder..
such as Msiexec.exe and that causes alot of havoc sense i NEED that program to install games i do first time setup from Steam ( in this case Dragon Age Origins: Digital Deluxe )
the problem is that when i try to run it.. it freezes my entire taskbar.. however i can stil press buttons and so.. ( no CPU rapid increase )
I have a school report I've been working on for amonths now on my Mum's computer. I recently purchased my own, so I emailed the file from her computer onto mine and downloaded it onto my Office Word 2007. The file was uncompatible with my version of office (even though it was from the same disc we bought for my Mum's computer) so it was always saved to autosave. In order to upload it to the school it needs to be saved to the computer and not in autosave. So I tried to save it, and got a pop-up message that told me it was incompatible but I could still save it with no problems. (i don't remember the exact wording) So I went ahead and hit "yes". now the file is missing from the computer and no matter how much searching I do i can't find it. Any shortcuts or links to it that existed before don't exist anymore.
I have today been in contact with Nero with regards to the subimaging fault with Nero Vision 10. I have been assured by nero that their new program, Nero 11 which will be released in October 2011 will eradicate this problem.I have sent two diagnostig logs ( Nerovision.txt & Dx Diag log ) to Nero with which they said that they were unable to fix.I have also enquired with nero that they would look into this matter with regard to a possible patch for nero 10 in the future & pointed out that their reputation was at stake over this.
i did a registry cleaner(to erase some entries of a bad uninstalled software) (with comodo registry cleaner) after restart i notice that the antivirus and firewall icons on the clock area were gone, after couple of restarts they came back.... now the activity center flag is delayed (bt now i dont remember if it is normal or not) and once the flag is there i test the activity center by disabling firewall, then the flag come out with a red "x", but not with the antivirus. In this picture, as you seei have disabled both, antivirus and firewall and it only shows the firewall as "important" message.should not show the antivirus status as an important message too?
I just cleaned my laptop and it released a lot of dust, so my temperature is lower. The weather is currently very, very, very hot and my laptop is running 55-60C normally when i browse the internet, in a very hot room. Before i cleaned it - it was very hotter. I'm even sweating and i don't wear a shirt. But that's not the point. I i am running prime95 to test the processor, and after 1 minute of 100% usage it gets to 90C in the hot room again. But when i go to a clearly cold room, it doesn't turn off, it barely reaches 80-85C but never the maximum 90C.are the fans not spinning correctly or is the room temperature really important for a laptop?
I was reading yesterday that if I want to restore a file, I need to go to the file and right click and select restore. If the file does not exist anymore then one would go to the directory where the file originally was and select restore (or something to that effect). I have two disks and I want to save some important files from one disk to the other. I have always used Windows 7 Backup but now I am not sure I am doing the right thing. What would happen if my main disk crashed and there was absolutely no hope of salvaging it? Could I still restore from the back up made by Windows 7 Backup? I won't know the file names or directory structure if one disk goes down completely.
My partner has to move her machine to windows 7, from vista business. What would be the best way to prepare? Files and settings transfer or? Should I backup somehow the files and other important things like bookmarks and windows mail folder, to a usb hdd?
I have always backed my personal hard drives using images for easy restoration
However i now have 2 PCs that need backup performed and they just want the data so an image is not necessary thus i only want the important data ie; documents and settings important files no junk such as updates or temp files
I would prefer to remove the hard drives and plug it into another pc to perform the backup instead of doing the back up from the actual machine
Windows 7 re-install driver recovery failure For one reason or another, i decided to re install windows 7 onto my Samsung 7 Chronos. Since I've had no issues in the past with re installing vista on my other machine, i mistakenly thought this would be a walk in the park. Anyway, now after re installing windows, multiple drivers have gone missing, and i cannot connect to the internet (on that machine) to allow windows to find them for me.The devices that are missing drivers are the following
ethernet controller (location PCI bus 3. device 0, function 0 manufacturer unknown) Intel(R) Centrino(R) Wireless- N + WiMAX 6150 (location Port_#0003. Hub_#0004 Network Controller ( location PCI bus 2, device 0, function 0) PCI simple communications Controller (location PCI bus 0, Device 22, function 0) SM Bus Controller (location PCI bus 0, device 31, function 3) Universal Serial Bus (USB) Controller (location PCI bus 4, device 0, function 0) --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (All of these devices have the code 28 error)
Also, My Standard VGA Graphics adapter cannot start (code 10)I have the recovery disk for windows 7, yet it failed to install these drivers. I have 1 working USB slot, which i can use to carry the drivers over from the computer i am currently using, to the one which is severely crippled at the moment.

It is a Windows 7 Home Premium Hewlett-packard HP Pavilion dv6 Notebook PC (64-bit Operating System).
For a while now I have been experiencing a strange problem. My laptop keeps changing the Windows Updates without my consent. I know this has been raised in the past but my problem is slightly different.I prefer to choose "Check for updates but let me choose whether to download or install them", however periodically the settings change without my consent to "Never check for updates".This is very frustrating as I am constantly having to keep an eye on this, and change the settings back to what they were in order to receive critical updates, or indeed any other update. The laptop was bought new just under 12 months ago and came with Windows 7 Home Premium 64Bit pre-installed.Has anyone else experienced this, or can anyone advise on a fix?
My wifes computer has been acting up for about a week now. IE 8 is not loading properly and is crashing. I am unable to connect to MSE to get updates or to Windows to get updates. I have run Malwarebytes and Emsisoft and neither one can find a bug. Chrome works for a while and the she gets the AW SNAP message.
I did search out this problem...very old posts recommended I start a new thread. For the last 2 weeks every time I shut down automatic install...installs the same 8 updates.
