Still working on my friend's laptop. I told him to backup all of his files, and specifically directed him to his iTunes Music folder. I then wiped his drive, etc. Now, he says... when the iTouch is plugged in, it should 1) "automatically" install iTunes from the iTouch, 2) the computer will then "remember" his name, settings, and iTouch serial number, 3) so that it can restore the library from all of the music, etc. from the iTouch-- 4) which is NOT the same as the iTunes Music folder, as there is much more on the iTouch that is not in that folder. Again, he tells me this NOW. *Note* The data files (ie iTunes Music folder) have not yet been moved back onto this drive.
1) I had already installed iTunes before I let him try to resync his iTouch. He insisted that me installing it before he plugged the iTouch in is one of the things that is causing this not to "work," so he uninstalled, redownloaded & reinstalled the new version anyway, iTunes 10.5, this morning.
2) He insists that, upon opening up the program the FIRST time, the computer "remembered" his name since it says "[name, name]'s Library" under Preferences. "That's cuz when I installed Windows 7, I put your username as the same that you had. It's just taking it from your username." "So, it remembered?" And he says, "All the settings are the same." "Well, then, you must have just happen to have had them set as the same thing that is default." After nearly 2 weeks, he does not understand what an operating system is or what "erasing everything on the drive so it is completely and utterly blank," means.
3) As for restoring the iTunes library from what is on his iTouch, I'm at a loss there. My first experience with iTunes ever was when a friend put his whole library on my new & empty iTunes, but that was back in 2006.
4) Is it even possible to sync things onto your iTouch without going through iTunes, when it is set up to only work with iTunes, so that the content ends up on the iTouch, but is somehow NOT under iTunes control & thus dumped into the iTunes Music folder? Now I'm just getting confused...
How do i copy all my music from my old itouch to the computer/itunes,so i can put it on my new itouch. My OS is Windows 7.

View 1 Replies View RelatedAs you increase the number of processors the performance improvement diminishes compared with the expected result -- for instance a system with 8 processors won't perform 8 times faster than a system with one processor due to the ovehead of managing the extra complexity of the interaction of all the processors. (Note the system will still be FAST of course !!).
Now wouldn't it be better to design say 128 and 256 bit architectures in the OS so you could still run many tasks concurrently but without the overhead of the multi processor environment - or at least have far less processors in the MP environment.
it was rumoured a while back that Windows 8 would have some 128 bit possibility -- I don't think there are any commercially available chips yet but thats only a matter of time.
I want to move from XP home to Win7 64 bit Home Premium, and get a 32 Gb SSD for my boot/main drive. Currently I only have an old 40Gb IDE HDD, as my SATA WD sadly has died; I don't need big HDD though, as I don't store much on my PC. So, I started to think of getting the Corsair X32 and installing Win7 on it, together with one game I play and a few programs like Photoshop and Sonar6 (DAW software). I would keep all my docs on the HDD. So, is 32 Gb enough?
View 18 Replies View Relatedi like many others have the problem of all thumbnails being spontaneously deleted every other day or so , and all the 250mb worth of thumbnails being slowly generated again only to be deleted..which is a major inconvenience since my processor is comparatively slow and videos take time for thumbnails to be generated.i found that the deny permission for the explorer folder where the thumbnails are stored does indeed work, however i noticed that while i have this workaround enabled, windows aero starts lagging (the scrolling of explorer pages, even firefox pages, and any graphical effects start occurring in short jerky steps) which i again hate. as soon as i removed those deny permissions (and the thumbnails spontaneously deleted) i haven't encountered that aero lag...so its not my graphics card or driver.i have currently disabled all thumbnail generation, folder browsing is behaving very fast but it just doesn't look good for pictures...for the videos its livable with.so any way i could limit thumbnail generation to pictures files only?

View 2 Replies View RelatedThis is being used on PSP (File System is FAT32, was formatted on PSP itself) and had 26% fragmentation (6'6gb size of it). After copying all stuff I wanted to it (leaving 22% space) left all this fragmentation so decided to do a normal defrag (using defragler) since its going to need only 1 time as i dont plan to delete that stuff or replace it.
What is your opinion about if I could have gained any little performance on the memory stick doing this or not? Also didn't check yet if CCleaner can delete free space on this memory stick or not (not sure if this memory sticks store data like an HDD do so). Just doing a normal defrag on this memory stick took some good hours.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI purchased a Dell laptop last May with 64-bit Vista. A number of web design and graphics apps I use were not fully functional on that OS, so I downgraded to the 32-bit Vista.
I now plan to upgrade that laptop to Windows 7.
Does anyone have any idea if the compatibility mode selections in Windows 7 64-bit will allow me to run more 32-bit applications than on Vista? I would like to take advantage of the extra RAM on my system, but not at the expense of applications not having full functionality.
I welcome any insights anyone can offer before I do the OS installation.
Has Microsoft made significant changes in Windows 7 with respect to MP4 video compatibility, specifically in Power-point? I have been able to easily insert and play MP4 video files in ppt 2007 on my 7 OS, but the same files will not work on my other PC running XP with ppt 2007.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI am curious about accessing an 'XP machine' with a 'Windows 7 machine.'
I'm planning on buying a storage drive, probably a 1.5TB drive. The new ones, mostly WD for now, have a new partitioning system and require a WD utility or Windows 7. I don't have it yet but might upgrade my Quad Core machine to Windows 7. I have an older laptop that has XP. It's not really powerful enough to bother installing 7 on it so it will remain an XP machine.
I will write to the new HDD from both computers. I guess I would format the new storage drive to NTFS format from Windows 7. (Or I could use the WD utility from XP?). There won't be any issues, right? Windows 7 NTFS is similar enough to XP NTFS?
If I got Windows 7, I think I wouldn't go any higher than Home Premium. I think there are utilities out there to obtain the XP Mode if I needed it. I just need to confirm that both operating systems can write to a NTFS-formatted storage drive with no issues. It will store video files, music files, documents, .exe files or program files but nothing installed; it's just for storage.

View 1 Replies View RelatedAs we all know, game compatibility frequently changed from build to build - some games that worked in older builds stopped working, and some games that did not work in older builds work in newer builds. Some of the latter can be attributed to patches put out but the game companies, and some can be attributed to the inclusion in Windows 7 missing components necessary to fulfill the total gaming experience of certain games.
That being said, there are now 2 lists to work with - the other list has been changed to a Pre-release list (and un-stickied), and this is now the official repository of games that work with the RTM. Read more at the forum...
