It's been a while since I've been on here but I have a bit of an issue.It might be noting but I'd like to get it checked out.I used one of those "driver update" programs that scan your hardware and then gives you back your out of date drivers.Since updating an Intel driver I've now got an "Xeon E3-1200/2nd Generation Intel(R) Core(TM) Processor Family PCI Express Root Port - 0101" listed which I don't think was there before.
View 1 RepliesI sometimes buy batches of used computers from companies to resell, and today someone called me and offered a deal.He was offering some servers using the 5000-series chipset (vague, I don't know the full specifics atm), that supports two processors.The processors installed atm are two Intel Xeon E5345.Now, I looked at benchmarks about them and they are around half of most of the top ten CPUs apiece.I doubt the score doubles if there are two processors of the same kind, but I really hope it does.Also, assuming it has a PCIe 16x (the 5000X chipsets do, don't know if this is X or not), will games run well on a rig like this if I slap a good card on it? Or the fact there are two different processors prevents games from using the second's processing power, or somesuch? (like it was for older games designed for single cores when running on dual cores)In the past all servers I found were too damn crappy to do anything else than what they were designed to do (sit in a server rack and do something boring 24/7), so I have little experience in re-purposing them.
View 5 Replies View Relatedmy cpu is reaching 80 degrees in the hardware monitoring page of the bios at which point the temp lights up red and ive been shutting it off incase it burns out ive cleaned all dust from the intel stock hsf the fan on the hsf is spinning round at a normal speed as far as i can see i have securely fitted the hsf onto the mboard mounts there is no thermal paste on the cpu or the hsf if i get some good quality paste and reapply it could someone give me their thoughts on whether this will resolve the issue?
im also keen to find out the average running temp of the cpu during idle in the bios ive been running this pc without paste or any overheating issues for approx 6 months without any problems i know that isnt recommended i just forgot to buy it at the time and was keen to test everything then my son was literally born the day after so i havent had my mind straight since or i would of got some paste!

What I like is that Intel offers the choice of a Xeon 80 watt non-graphics processor versus it's 95 watt on-board graphics processor. It would have been nice if Intel offered that same choice in it's Core line. Many users prefer a PCI graphics card and don't use the on-chip graphics, so why not a choice, like with the Xeon line?

View 1 Replies View RelatedAs you increase the number of processors the performance improvement diminishes compared with the expected result -- for instance a system with 8 processors won't perform 8 times faster than a system with one processor due to the ovehead of managing the extra complexity of the interaction of all the processors. (Note the system will still be FAST of course !!).
Now wouldn't it be better to design say 128 and 256 bit architectures in the OS so you could still run many tasks concurrently but without the overhead of the multi processor environment - or at least have far less processors in the MP environment.
it was rumoured a while back that Windows 8 would have some 128 bit possibility -- I don't think there are any commercially available chips yet but thats only a matter of time.
i like many others have the problem of all thumbnails being spontaneously deleted every other day or so , and all the 250mb worth of thumbnails being slowly generated again only to be deleted..which is a major inconvenience since my processor is comparatively slow and videos take time for thumbnails to be generated.i found that the deny permission for the explorer folder where the thumbnails are stored does indeed work, however i noticed that while i have this workaround enabled, windows aero starts lagging (the scrolling of explorer pages, even firefox pages, and any graphical effects start occurring in short jerky steps) which i again hate. as soon as i removed those deny permissions (and the thumbnails spontaneously deleted) i haven't encountered that aero lag...so its not my graphics card or driver.i have currently disabled all thumbnail generation, folder browsing is behaving very fast but it just doesn't look good for pictures...for the videos its livable with.so any way i could limit thumbnail generation to pictures files only?

I have a HP Officejet 6500A Plus Printer. (all in one) In Windows 7 under Disk Manager my printer is listed as a Hard Drive thats weird. The printer is connected with a USB cable so I think the system and the drivers think it a flash drive.
Is this normal? Or can it be fixed? If so how? HP and MS have not repiied to my Quieies. My printer works but I'd like to know why.

Download the newest XP drivers from this german site:

You will need the SN ofyour scanner (it is on the scanner).
Get the one file instalation.
You will not be able to install the drivers but you can trick them to work.
The procedure is simple:
Do not plug in the scanner, start up the
Empty your systemrootwindows emp folder
Srart the instalation and when it asks "Select Language" stop there. Then copy the all contents (files and folders) of WindowsTemp to another folder (e.g. systemroot1)
Then plug in the scanner and windows should be able to find the drivers there if not guide it to that location and let it install Mustek Twain drivers.
Enjoy your scanner.

Have a friend with a new Toshiba Core i5 on which he has MS Office 2003 Professional fully installed, including PowerPoint. Three weeks ago, he complained that he could not open .pps files attached to e-mails, so he brought the computer to me. I opened the file associations subroutine, found .pps in the list of extensions, and ultimately (tha'ts another whole story) got MS PowerPoint registered as the default program to open such files.Today he claimed he got another e-mail with a .pps attachment, and could not open it, so brought the computer to me again. I don't know why he wasn't able to open it, because I called up the e-mail, clicked the .pps attachment and it opened perfectly. However, I opened the /Default Programs/Set Associations list and scrolled down to see what the .pps entry said was the current default.

View 2 Replies View Relatedi'm having a problem with the Time Zone selection, i'm running Windows 7 professional x64 and I want to change my time zone but it only lists two, which does not include the one i want... i right click on the clock (on right-down corner) , then adjust date/time, and i click on Change time zone button. then it brings me a drop down list which i can select, it only includes two time zones; UTC +2 and UTC +4. what i want is UTC/GMT +1 (Sweden time). how can i add an additional time zone to the drop down list so i can select it?

However, it did give me a rating of 7.4 for the RAM section. (6 Gigs of OCZ DDR3 1600 )
Is this something to worry about?
A program that I am familiar with that affects performance consuming at least half of CPU does not appear in the programs that can be uninstalled. I know it is there because it does show in the downloads located in the start menu. This program creeps in when you download certain programs from the internet such as toolbars if you do not uncheck them. I am usually careful about any downloads but since I enrolled in an on-line college course for my bachelor's certain programs do need to be downloaded.

View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen I click on the Windows icon in the lower left corner of my screen, a menu opens. At the bottom of that menu is a line that says "all programs". It opens into a menu of programs on my machine.
Inside of "all programs" is listed a folder called Microsoft. Inside of it is Outlook 2010.
However, I recently wanted to send an email using Outlook 2010 by clicking on a link on a website. A window opened that would allow me to select the email client I wanted to use from a list of programs. But I can't find Outlook 2010.
When I click the Windows icon in the lower left corner of my screen & then on "computer" and then on C drive, there is listed in C drive two folders, Programs & Programs (x86). However, the Microsoft folder containing Outlook 2010 is not in either one of them.
When I did a search for Outlook 2010 on my C drive, the result said it can be found at C:ProgramDataMicrosoftStart MenuProgramsMicrosoft Office
However, I cick the Windows icon in the lower left corner of my screen & then on "computer" and then on C drive, I cannot find a ProgramData directory. So, where is my Ourlook 2010?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've got 2 partitions, C drive being for the OS and D drive having my programs installed. I reinstalled Windows over the top the C drive with the impression that everything on my C drive would be wiped and replaced with the new system, and all the stuff on the D drive would be untouched (i.e. music, documents and program install files). The other day I upgraded from 32 bit to 64 bit Windows 7 however now on the Add/Remove programs list no programs appear, yet I can still use some of them. For example I can use Steam by running the .exe in the install folder but doesn't appear on Add/Remove, and for example Itunes doesn't work at all using the same idea. Basically, have I screwed up my PC and the partitions from upgrading, a bad install or should I just reinstall all the programs from scratch?

View 1 Replies View RelatedThis one has me scratching my head. Over the weekend I had a power failure that affected my system. It was up and running at the time, transferring files to an external HD. I was away when it happened (had gone out for dinner - power went out there, too), when I got home, I rebooted the system, it went through it's systems check, and appeared to start normally, with no major problems, aside from some corrupt files on the external drive.Monday evening (Aug. 27) I went to update my flash player for steam, and during the installation, I got an error notifying me I don't have permission. Ran as an admin and got the same error.
The only thing I can figure is something in the registry got tweaked when the power went outThis is the only account on the system. I created a secondary admin account to try and straighten this out, but had no luck. (perhaps I missed something?)Anyone know a workaround or method to restore myself back to Administrator? I'd prefer not to have switch over to a new account, but if necessary, i guess it's necessary.
