Sandy Bridge E3 Xeon Vs I7 Core Comparison?
Jul 2, 2011
I've been comparing the specs on the following processors and as a non-gamer the Xeon processors look very attractive. What I like is that Intel offers the choice of a Xeon 80 watt non-graphics processor versus it's 95 watt on-board graphics processor. It would have been nice if Intel offered that same choice in it's Core line. Many users prefer a PCI graphics card and don't use the on-chip graphics, so why not a choice, like with the Xeon line?

Well ive heard that Ivy bridge boost 20% performance and huge in GPU.I dont need Built in GPU.Ivy has integrated USB3.0, PCI 3.0 and thunderbird. Is it really worth to wait for the new Ivy Bridge i5 3570k? versus i5 2500k?I have a lesson for the previous CPU. Bought 3 computer Socket 1156 after 2 months of release! The result? i always got a BSOD.The Sandy bridge 1st release has a problem also with the chipset. If i remember they fix after 2 weeks with the new B3 design. Now guys because im really excited on Ivy bridge. The release date is April 08, 2012 What can you say? is it really safe buying for only a 1 month old after the release? Lets say i wait to buy on May 01, 2012?.Amd is creating a PCI 3.0 Hd 7 Series.

i have just built a new rig and i'm having a couple of problems. as i said in the title i have a msi 560 on a asus p67 mobo with a intel i5 2500.i've had the computer for about 2 months now and a few days ago, when i started the computer, a message saying "disk read error, push ctrl + alt + delete" came up. i restarted my comp' a few times and it eventually booted. then today the same message came up and i went through the same process and i got the computer to boot again.this i could deal with however, my computer now has been on for about 16 hours (no big deal) but now it wont play Internet videos and huge artifacts and random triangles and things com up in games like battlefield bc2. the reason i put the time up here is that when i first started the computer it was doing video things fine.

i can't find anything solid when i looked it up on google. Every forum i saw was BEFORE the release of ivy i3's and they are simply speculating but even then they say it is 10% faster.Anyways,i can sell my current i3 2100 which i bought barely 2 months ago for about 106 US$ and get an i3 322- @3.3Ghz for about 129$. The question is,should i? Previously i had an Asrock Extreme 4 gen motherboard and it had a few Pci 3.0 slots and everywhere i read it said that all supported GPU like 7770 will give twice the performance on 3.0 slot IF the processor was Ivy. Im always looking to experiment with these things, ive tried countless GPUs,CPU's and motherboards in hope's to find that perfect build which will cost the LEAST for a new PC gamer and give maximum performance . I think this might just be it. Even with the 2100 it never "bottleneck'ed" my system,it was always my GTX 460 which was lacking.
Anyways need your opinion, and would LOVE to hear from someone who has actually had experience with both or at least the i3-3220 processor. My current system is as mentioned in my profile, what im hoping to build is:
i3-3220
Any motherboard good for Ivy bridge processors
8GB (2x4GB) Crosair XMS3 DDR3 1600Fsb Ram
either 7750 or 7770 depending on the availability and budget left

I sometimes buy batches of used computers from companies to resell, and today someone called me and offered a deal.He was offering some servers using the 5000-series chipset (vague, I don't know the full specifics atm), that supports two processors. The processors installed atm are two Intel Xeon E5345.Now, I looked at benchmarks about them and they are around half of most of the top ten CPUs apiece.I doubt the score doubles if there are two processors of the same kind, but I really hope it does. Also, assuming it has a PCIe 16x (the 5000X chipsets do, don't know if this is X or not), will games run well on a rig like this if I slap a good card on it? Or the fact there are two different processors prevents games from using the second's processing power, or somesuch? (like it was for older games designed for single cores when running on dual cores)In the past all servers I found were too damn crappy to do anything else than what they were designed to do (sit in a server rack and do something boring 24/7), so I have little experience in re-purposing them.

my cpu is reaching 80 degrees in the hardware monitoring page of the bios at which point the temp lights up red and ive been shutting it off incase it burns out ive cleaned all dust from the intel stock hsf the fan on the hsf is spinning round at a normal speed as far as i can see i have securely fitted the hsf onto the mboard mounts there is no thermal paste on the cpu or the hsf if i get some good quality paste and reapply it could someone give me their thoughts on whether this will resolve the issue?
im also keen to find out the average running temp of the cpu during idle in the bios ive been running this pc without paste or any overheating issues for approx 6 months without any problems i know that isnt recommended i just forgot to buy it at the time and was keen to test everything then my son was literally born the day after so i havent had my mind straight since or i would of got some paste!

It's been a while since I've been on here but I have a bit of an issue. It might be noting but I'd like to get it checked out.I used one of those "driver update" programs that scan your hardware and then gives you back your out of date drivers.Since updating an Intel driver I've now got an "Xeon E3-1200/2nd Generation Intel(R) Core(TM) Processor Family PCI Express Root Port - 0101" listed which I don't think was there before.

I am seeing a utility that will let me enter the command that I use in XP and then tell me what the corresponding comand or sequence of comands are in Windows 7. What I am finding is I am spending many hours locating the correct set of sequences to do something which is very straightforward in XP and do the same thing in Windows 7. I end up going onto the web and have to search for the command and the information necessary to accomplish a task. An example of this is creating an ODBC connection. In XP it exists as an option in the Control Panel/Administrative Tools/Data SOurces ODBC. In Windows 7 now its buried in Windows System32/odbcad32. I am not seeing any real advantage of using Windows 7 other than running in 64bit mode. It seems that the order of where things/commands are located and what commands are called is many times changed as well.

I'm having is that I recently installed Windows 7 Ultimate (from XP Ultimate) and the computer was working really slowly.
First I opened task manager and found only one CPU was being monitored, there was only one window for one CPU, not two windows with only one firing!
This I found strange, checked the WEI and my processor got a 2.3 rating (its a Core 2 Duo @ 1,83Mhz, a T5600), I then downloaded a tone of widgets to check if they could "see" the other core, nothing. I went into msconfig, the no. of processors box is unchecked, if I check it, the drop down menu only gives me the option of picking 1 CPU.
using Vista, but I can't seem to be able to use his fix: [URL] (bottom of page, can't find the HAL detection checkbox)
I am running Windows 7 Ultimate on an HP nx9420 laptop with 3GB of RAM, a new HDD (250GB), the old one just stopped working really, and the Core 2 Duo T5600 @ 1,83Mhz that is running only one core.

QX9650, quad core, task manager, cpu-z, cpu-id, shows showing only 2 two cores.I recently upgraded an Intel E8500 to a QX9650 and had the problem of Windows 7 only showing 2 of the 4 cores. It took a few frustrating hours to find the solution, but I got there in the end without the need for a Windows re-install.
1st: You must have Windows 7 Professional. Home Premium does not support more than 2 cores. Upgrade to Pro.
2nd: If Task manager and CPU-Z are only showing 2 cores, you'll be feeling pretty confused, right?
Go to Start-->Run, type MSCONFIG.Under the BOOT tab, click 'Advanced Options'.In the top left corner it says "Number of Processors" (you'll have been here already and it says '2').Uncheck this and do a reboot. This solved my hours of confusion. Now I have 4 cores in Task Manager, CPU-Z and all is well.If all this fails, then get yourself set up for an OS reinstall; that should get you where you want to be.

I'm having an issue with my CPU. It seems that it is only using one of its cores. This issue first became apparent to me when I was trying to run Blacklight Retribution. It popped up a warning message saying that my computer does not meet the minimum requirements of have at least a dual core. And indeed the game was unplayable, with single digit fps constantly. However when i go to the performance tab of my task manager it shows 4 graphs, meaning that 4 cores must be running. Then I go the boot tab of my systems configuration, click on advanced options and underneath the "Number of Processors:" check box (which is unchecked), it shows 1 as the number of processors. My processor is an Intel(R) Xeon(TM) CPU 3.60GHz (4 CPUs), ~3.6GHz.

Ever since i upgraded windows has only seen one core even though its a dual core system. The processor is a AMD Athlon 64 Processor 3500+ 2.20Ghz.
I have checked the BIOS and cant find any related settings and when i go to msconfig in the boot menu (advance) Number of processors is unchecked by default and if i check it the drop down only shows one core. The device manager is not showing any driver issues.

aren't they supposed to carry the load equally, Or is that normal? When I have something else up besides the game I'm playing (MineCraft online) it evens out more.
My system specs are Windows vista (but updated to Windows 7 Home premium and completely updated) Pentium dual core cpu t4200 4.00 gb Ram. 64 bit

Which gpu has better graphics performance. I have the choice between those two (Geforce 630m or Radeon 7670m). I'm looking to buy a new laptop soon and that is the two I have choices from. I'd like to know which would be better. It would be for gaming some,Photoshop (graphics design and image editing), Skype, and so forth. They're both around the same price range, so I'd like to get the best for the money. They'll both be equipped with a Intel Core i5. The Geforce is priced a little higher than the Radeon, but not too much. As I said, they're around the same price. I've always liked Geforce, but I'd like an opinion.

I've been having some BSOD probs, so I'm currently updating all of my drivers. The only one I can't find an update for is called PCI Standard Host CPU Bridge. Could you point me in the right direction, so I can get the update?
Also, for some reason, PCI Standard Host CPU Bridge is listed twice in Device Manager... and both entries seem identical. Would this mean I have to update both?
Some spec info:
Dell Inspiron 1764 Laptop
64 Bit Windows 7 Home Premium (SP1)
Intel Core i5 2.27 GHz
Motherboard: Dell 0TKV96
4 GB RAM

I use a network bridge between my wireless and wired adapters to put my 360 on Live, because the 360 Wireless Network Adapter is just waaaay too expensive. Anyway, it all worked completely fine under XP, but I just installed 7 and there's a couple of things I'm having trouble with...
The network icon in the sytem tray shows either... well, I'm not sure exactly what icon it is when the 360 is on, or a disconnected wireless network icon when it isn't...
what I'd like is the normal wireless network icon with the signal bars (this is more of an annoyance, but I get really annoyed by stuff like this). More seriously, under (as far as I can tell) the same configuration as XP, the 360 can't get an IP address from my router.
If I set it to a static IP, it connects to Live, but complains about "moderate NAT" or some crap, and says that will stop me connecting to some games or players (and it does).

To create a Network Bridge, you must select atleat two LAN or High-Speed Internet connections that are not being used by Internet Connection Sharing. im useing a lan connection and a high speed wireless connection isnt that all i need....and if it's because of intnert connection sharing how do i turn that off in windows
