Reinstall Windows 7 OEM On A New Motherboard?

May 11, 2012

I found a really good deal for a P8P67 Deluxe motherboard and was going to get an i5 2500k but I have heard that doing so will not be do-able with an OEM copy of windows 7. !?

I was also going to get an SSD and transfer windows 7 onto it, can I do either of these things with an OEM copy ? and how would I go about transferring it from my mechanical to an SSD

Windows 7 Will Not Start Or Reinstall After Motherboard Change

Sep 11, 2011

My motherboard died on me, and so I had to change it together with the processor and RAM as there were no socket 775 motherboards available locally. However, Win 7 blue screens every time on start up, but very briefly, so I can't see the error message.

Win 7 repair then kicks in, but finds nothing wrong, so it goes round and round like that ad infinitum.

All the repair methods I have found require that you work within windows, which is patently stupid if you want to repair because you can't get windows to work - it's a bit like trying to open a box with a tool that's inside it!

I tried a new install, which has backed up my old Windows as Windows.old, and it goes though all the paces, but then refuses to accept the activation code.

I am now stuck with a non functioning PC, and am scared to add anything in the future in case of this type of thing.

Replacement Motherboard--Does It Need To Reinstall OS

Jun 5, 2012

I RMA'd the motherboard of a new system I am building because one of its' two banks of DIMM slots was defective. Is it necessary for me to re-install of the OS once I have the same replacement motherboard installed? If it is necessary for me to re-install, am I going to have issues with my licensed copy of Windows 7, since in theory it is being installed on another system?BTW, the OS installed fine and the system appears to be stable running off 16GB of memory. Nevertheless, I returned the mobo because I couldn't get my system it to recognize the other 16GB of memory installed. I am a PC convert after having spent the last 15 years working with Macs so my knowledge of PC OSs is not terribly sophisticated. This is my second PC build (the first being a hybrid with a mac OS).Delvin P. Blanders

Will Motherboard Swap Require A Reinstall

Jun 1, 2011

My current motherboard is a socket 775 G41 chipset with 2 x DIMM slots for DDR2 RAM. I currently have 2 x 2GB Kingston RAM in them, but need to increase RAM to 8GB.However 2 x 4GB DDR2 is so ridiculously expensive it is not economically viable to do this.Around 175 for branded RAM or 100 for unbranded stuff that might be dodgy. So I am thinking of getting a motherboard that runs DDR3 RAM, then I can put in 8GB of cheaper DDR3 RAM and even with a new Mobo I am still better off, even using branded RAM.16GB would be nice but I don't think socket 775 mobos exist that support that much.I am keeping the same CPU (Core 2 Quad Q8300) and everything else.Running Windows 7 64 bit. My question is will I need to reinstall Windows? in fact I probably wouldn't bother if that was the case.

New Motherboard, Can't Upgrade To Windows 7?

Jan 3, 2013

I recently built my new computer with a friend, and I used the Hard drive and Graphics card from my old one, which had windows Vista. When we finally finished, I popped in my Windows 7 disc and selected upgrade. It tells me that I need to restart my computer normally and run it from there, but the problem is that I can't! I also don't have a Vista disc, so I can't repair my vista install, and I don't even know where to find Vista disc anymore. My only other option would be to install windows 7 but that would wipe my hard drive, and I haven't backed anything up.

Windows 7 Re-activation After Motherboard Upgrade

Mar 27, 2012

I recently had to upgrade motherboards in one of my computers, resulting in Windows 7 asking to re-validate. I still have the disk, but all of the licenses on it are used up. Is there any way to get another license key without paying the $100 for a new copy of Windows?

Install is Home Premium from an OEM machine. I read that this doesn't give you access to Microsoft tech support, so is the option of calling and requesting a new one not possible?

Installing Upgrade Version Of Windows 7 On New Motherboard?

Aug 12, 2012

Just to be sure I am understanding the sticky above correctly, I wanted to ask a question.  My current PC has an OEM copy of windows XP. So I can go ahead and buy an upgrade version of Windows 7 for 119 instead of 200 for the full retail version and install it on my computer right? Then, when I buy a new motherboard soon, I can upgrade my computer and use the same windows upgrade version CD's to reinstall Windows on the upgraded computer right?

Reinstall Windows 7 From Upgrade Disk?

Apr 30, 2012

After a failed hard disk, I'm trying to reinstall W7 from my upgrade disk and I keep getting a "the product key is not valid" error. I read a MSFT support article saying you have to install Vista first, then upgrade to W7.However, how do I now boot from the Vista disk? I've put in the Vista disk, restarted my computer, but every time it just boots to the W7 install screen asking for the product key.

Reinstall Windows 7 Ultimate Upgrade

Dec 29, 2011

I bought a new computer with win 7 home basic and 2) I want to reinstall os of this computer which has been upgraded to win 7 ultimate from home basic. So I have a choice to reinstall the win 7 ultimate upgrade to this computer again or to the new computer which runs faster. But either way, how can I do it? I think (this is awhile ago) when I was doing upgrading to this computer I paid on line and got an email with an activation code and instructions. So my questions are 1) Can I find the code from this computer? 2) Can I use the code on the new computer? 3) should I format this computer first before I activate the upgrade copy on the new computer to avoid conflicts that both computers are using the same upgrade copy? The reason for the last question is I'd want to move every file to the new computer before I format this computer.

Motherboard & CPU Upgrade Without Re-install?

Oct 8, 2011

I would like to upgrade my very old Conroe 1333-D667 motherboard currently fitted with a Pentium 4 3gig processor & Win 7 Ultimate. Could I have some suggestions as to what would be a reasonable new mobo upgrade with maybe something like an Intel (what type) dual core processor or suggested alternatives - I need the whole system to be a bit quicker. Most importantly though without having to re-install Win 7 in the process. I would probably have to stay with 32bit as this is what everything is now.The new board must have at least 1 IDE for my Plextor PX-870A DVD and at least 4 sata connections. There is so much stuff out there which makes the choice confusing.

BSOD When PC Booting After Recent Upgrade Of Motherboard And CPU

Apr 24, 2012

I upgraded my pc components and now it will not start at all. As far as I can see all the bios settings are correct. On first start up a message come up first saying no disks found, then when I click onto the bios menu i have AHCI mode enabled and it detects SSD and CD drive absolutely fine. First I tried booting from original SSD with windows 7 already installed. Kept getting BSOD every time I get to windows loading screen.

Then after reading on forums people were re-installing windows back on to the SSD, but when trying to boot from the cd drive(yes its a bootable disc) nothing happens and it just goes to the windows repair screen then does nothing after attempting to repair. i have tried removing the SSD so only the cd drive is visible but then it comes up with the message "reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press any key"

I have removed graphics card and tried on board graphics.
I have tried barebones.
I have tried new cables.
I have cleared Cmos + update

My Components:
Mobo: AsRock Z68 Extreme4 Gen3 (NEW)

Reinstall With An Upgrade Disk

I always format my hard drive ever year so I get a fresh operating system to work with.

I bought a new laptop in August and am eligible for a free upgrade to Windows 7, but I am apprehensive to do because I'm not sure how I will do a reinstall. My computer did not come with restore disks and I don't want to buy them from the manufacturer. Do i need to reinstall xp or vista first in order to reinstall? If, theoretically, i used an activated version of vista, that isn't exactly...genuine (just to reinstall).... would it record that serial key and put my 7 installation at risk?

Laptop OS Reinstall After Ssd Upgrade - No Drivers?

Sep 16, 2012

I recently bought a samsung NP-300V5A laptop for compsci at school, and picked it due to the fact that out of all the laptops at microcenter, this one was at a reasonable price with an i7 2670qm, however, coming from building 3 of my own very high end desktops (3930k w/ gtx 690 & ssd's) the 5400 rpm drive just was unbearable, so I went out and picked up a crucial M4, and replaced it. I also bought a copy of windows 7 home premium OEM and tried booting from that dvd, and it would not work, I just got a backlight loop, so I inserted the Samsung recovery install disc, and used it to install windows, worked just the same as any other win7 install, however, my internet is not working now, and my laptop's monitor/display is recognized as a generic nonPnP and won't go to its max resolution.
