View 1 Replies View RelatedI connected my computer to the TV screen so my brother can see what I'm doing, when my mom comes up and tells me to get off the computer. I argue with her and then she starts pressing "Ctrl, Alt, Delete" for all she's worth. Somehow it flipped my computer screen SIDEWAYS.I figured out that if I disconnect my computer from the TV it goes back to normal. But I want to be able to connect it to the TV in the future so I can watch Netflix on movie night, ect.

View 6 Replies View RelatedAfter I had to reinstall my Windows 7 OS and the Samsung drivers onto a new internal hard drive, my screen images appear to be somewhat stretched sideways from normal. I right-clicked the desktop screen and was given only two screen resolutions to pick from, thinking perhaps was the problem, but neither option changed my problem.

View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen I boot up my computer, it displays the animated windows7 logo as normal, but where it would normally display the login screen all I get is a blank screen with the mouse cursor. I've tried all keyboard shortcuts and random clicks to no avail - it stays on that screen for hours with occasional HDD activity.I've tried booting in safe mode only to encounter exactly the same problem, and have no previous restore points (which I know is a big mistake).Due to it not starting in safe mode either, I tried to replace the winlogon.exe file from another Windows 7 instillation to no avail - I still get the same problem.I am able to boot into linux (off my removable HDD) and windows XP (from my secondary internal HDD), so I am led to believe it is a corrupted file or dodgy setting within Windows 7 rather than a hardware fault.
View 9 Replies View RelatedComputer will turn on and go through the motions of start up, but when the log in screen should come up it black screens on me. It doesn't shut off though...? Just goes black. So beyond that I can't even get in to tell you what is wrong and I can't get the pop up back that said what the problem was.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've installed a new SSD as a secondary drive and it has worked for two days. At the moment, I can't see any mention of it in Computer (Windows Explorer) but the BIOS detects it.There is a screenshot below of the disk manager, I believe Disk 2 should be the 120GB Intel X-25M G2 SSD:Also, ignore the 8GB drive listed there, it's just a harmless USB.How do I fix this? I don't have any data worth keeping on it so I'm quite happy to get a blowtorch and format the drive if needed.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently made a thread on this forum talking about how my new PC setup has suddenly started creating lines on my screen
Link: Wavy lines across screen, (usually grey-ish colours) on new setup.
After trying a full list of things; 2 different monitors 2 different VGA cables 3 different mice 3 different keyboards change power supply change graphics card used onboard graphics switched ram sticks and removed one at a time reformatted a dozen of times unplugged all sound from computer checked motherboard for any visual problems and couldn't see any updated all drivers I could possibly think of Ran Memtest for 7 passes with no errors I've finally found out the problem and that was when I connected my graphics card using HDMI to a HDMI compatable monitor it worked fine and I had no more lines!
So it seems that using HDMI is working fine but soon as I use a VGA cable its not working and the lines are back. It only confused me more when I connected a VGA cable from another computer to the monitor it all worked fine.
As far as I can tell it's something to do with my computers VGA/HDMI settings, I've tried onboard VGA and that still didn't work so it doesn't seem to be a graphics card problem just something is stopping VGA working properly but HDMI is working.
I'm gonna have to go buy an expensive new monitor with HDMI compatability.

When I first bought my laptop installed with Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit, the built in webcam was appearing in 'computer' but when I installed Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Bit, it disappeared from 'computer'. My laptop is an Acer Aspire 5552 and my older sister also has an Acer laptop with a built in webcam and also not appearing in 'computer' and I think she is still using the default installed operating system because hers is Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit And I don't think she would choose to just format and install the same exact OS right out of the box...I called Acer tech support and they say they can fix the problem remotely but for a fee of almost 100$ which I dont have.
by the way it dont actually really matter if it works or not because I have my laptop connected to a 52" 120 hz full hd lcd hdtv via hdmi cord so the laptop is closed and upside down with the battery taken out ...on my fireplace mantel...all i use it for is to download 1080p bluray rips and watch 1080p bluray rips via 2tb external harddrive
And the driver for the built in webcam does show up in device manager without any problems there and it is also up to date
i'm using win 7 ultimate. when i plug usb drives, they are recognised also can be explored via computer management. but it is not appearing in my computer. any registry key problem?

Is there any way to addup the choice to chose between the os on the c: and the os on the d: again via editing my current boot.ini?
View 3 Replies View RelatedMy promblem is, I shut down my computer earlier in the afternoon yesterday. I come back and turn it on and after running a minute or two, the fans are going like crazy and screen goes black, monitor goes to sleep. I manually hold down the power button, restart and choose the option to repair. Once again, after a minute or so fans start running hard, blacked out screen, monitor goes to sleep. My husband has tried F8 and we've tried going back to a restore point. It will start and sound normal, but when the fans start to run hard we know the screen will go black.Opinions from various people I know and from websites are stating it's my ATI Radeon graphics card. We've even tested the RAM, yet within those two minutes after start up, monitor goes black and states no signal or it's sleeping. We've also tried numerous monitors, just for sake of process of elimination.
View 6 Replies View RelatedMy Dell laptop always opens with the display sideways. I have learned to hit the key next to escape which allows me to choose extend and that fixes it, but I have to do it every time. I found a post on this forum which said to change the orientation in display preferences from landscape to portrait and I tried that, but then it's permanently turned sideways.

View 3 Replies View RelatedSomeone just recently got a new Gateway all-in-one desktop computer running Windows 7. He has a slightly older HP deskjet printer connected to it. Each day, a second iteration of that printer appears and sets itself as the default printer. When he goes to print, nothing happens because it is sitting in the queue of that second printer. Yesterday I reset the print spooler by turning it off an on. When done, only the original printer appeared and everything printed fine. Today he called me and said the second printer was back and he can't print.

View 1 Replies View Relatedwhy my system will no longer display the contents of my CD/DVDs? I have been going through some older CD/DVD (RW) that have various files on them, zip, jpg, txt, doc etc. Looking from Explorer 'Computer' the disk will show once inserted and state it has (for example) 23.2MB free of 702MB but when I select the drive to view the contents all I see is desktop.ini and nothing else. Strange since it recognizes the media has 23.2MB free which means there is data present.
Now, I absolutely know this system showed contents at one time (like yesterday)for anything I inserted to read. I've rebooted also. I can also move the media to another machine, running Linux ;-) and it displays the contents just fine. I have tried other media that I know I have recently written (from this system) and they show exactly the same thing now one file desktop.ini and that's it. I have seen this before under W2K, WXP and now Windows 7 but this system is brand new and much more modern hardware but never ever found a solution.

View 5 Replies View RelatedLately on occasion the cmd.exe window will appear very briefly. Normally it comes and goes so fast that I cannot clearly see what is actually happening. Today it appeared and contained the words "0 files copied" which changed to "1 files copied" and then "2 files copied" before disappearing. This was the first time I could actually see what was written. About 5 minutes later it appeared very briefly again and I noticed the word "taskkill" before it disappeared.
