I've installed a new SSD as a secondary drive and it has worked for two days. At the moment, I can't see any mention of it in Computer (Windows Explorer) but the BIOS detects it.There is a screenshot below of the disk manager, I believe Disk 2 should be the 120GB Intel X-25M G2 SSD:Also, ignore the 8GB drive listed there, it's just a harmless USB.How do I fix this? I don't have any data worth keeping on it so I'm quite happy to get a blowtorch and format the drive if needed.
When I first bought my laptop installed with Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit, the built in webcam was appearing in 'computer' but when I installed Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Bit, it disappeared from 'computer'. My laptop is an Acer Aspire 5552 and my older sister also has an Acer laptop with a built in webcam and also not appearing in 'computer' and I think she is still using the default installed operating system because hers is Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit And I don't think she would choose to just format and install the same exact OS right out of the box...I called Acer tech support and they say they can fix the problem remotely but for a fee of almost 100$ which I dont have.
by the way it dont actually really matter if it works or not because I have my laptop connected to a 52" 120 hz full hd lcd hdtv via hdmi cord so the laptop is closed and upside down with the battery taken out ...on my fireplace mantel...all i use it for is to download 1080p bluray rips and watch 1080p bluray rips via 2tb external harddrive
And the driver for the built in webcam does show up in device manager without any problems there and it is also up to date
i'm using win 7 ultimate. when i plug usb drives, they are recognised also can be explored via computer management. but it is not appearing in my computer. any registry key problem?
Someone just recently got a new Gateway all-in-one desktop computer running Windows 7. He has a slightly older HP deskjet printer connected to it. Each day, a second iteration of that printer appears and sets itself as the default printer. When he goes to print, nothing happens because it is sitting in the queue of that second printer. Yesterday I reset the print spooler by turning it off an on. When done, only the original printer appeared and everything printed fine. Today he called me and said the second printer was back and he can't print.
It worked fine on Windows Vista. I just formated the first and installed Windows Seven on it. Now when loading up Seven, it says the 2nd is installed and working, but its not accessible and doesnt even appear.
why my system will no longer display the contents of my CD/DVDs? I have been going through some older CD/DVD (RW) that have various files on them, zip, jpg, txt, doc etc. Looking from Explorer 'Computer' the disk will show once inserted and state it has (for example) 23.2MB free of 702MB but when I select the drive to view the contents all I see is desktop.ini and nothing else. Strange since it recognizes the media has 23.2MB free which means there is data present.
Now, I absolutely know this system showed contents at one time (like yesterday)for anything I inserted to read. I've rebooted also. I can also move the media to another machine, running Linux ;-) and it displays the contents just fine. I have tried other media that I know I have recently written (from this system) and they show exactly the same thing now one file desktop.ini and that's it. I have seen this before under W2K, WXP and now Windows 7 but this system is brand new and much more modern hardware but never ever found a solution.
I am starting QTP application from my laptop. I can see the application successfully geeting the license details, then i couldn't see the application in my screen. When i checked the Task Manager-> Processes, i can see QTP is running. I have killed and tried again, same output. The application icon is not even visible in the taskbar aswell. I have tried using the multiple screen options aswell
A folder named "Favorite Bar" keeps appearing in my Favorite list even though I keep deleting it. Is there some way to remove it from the registry for good?
Lately on occasion the cmd.exe window will appear very briefly. Normally it comes and goes so fast that I cannot clearly see what is actually happening. Today it appeared and contained the words "0 files copied" which changed to "1 files copied" and then "2 files copied" before disappearing. This was the first time I could actually see what was written. About 5 minutes later it appeared very briefly again and I noticed the word "taskkill" before it disappeared.
I will be browsing or doing a lab for school and my command window opens up and closes so fast I am not sure what it is doing. It happens so fast but twice I saw what it said... 0 files copied and then 1 file copied...what the heck is my computer doing?
None of my dialog boxes are not showing up. Meaning when I go to "save as.." nothing comes up after I click on that. The little right click menu appears but when I select what I want, nothing else comes up. It's not behind any other windows or open programs or on the edge of the screen anywhere. I believe I did a defrag and I did a sweep with AVG anti-virus but nothing came up
I have a collection of mp3 files which I save in E:MusicMP3 Files and then in sub directories by artist.Inside some of the particular artist folders there keep appearing files called folder.jpg which are obviously album coverart for the artist. My question is where on earth these are coming from, I do not put them there in fact I delete them when I find them but they often re-appear soon afterwards.
When I boot up my computer, it displays the animated windows7 logo as normal, but where it would normally display the login screen all I get is a blank screen with the mouse cursor. I've tried all keyboard shortcuts and random clicks to no avail - it stays on that screen for hours with occasional HDD activity.I've tried booting in safe mode only to encounter exactly the same problem, and have no previous restore points (which I know is a big mistake).Due to it not starting in safe mode either, I tried to replace the winlogon.exe file from another Windows 7 instillation to no avail - I still get the same problem.I am able to boot into linux (off my removable HDD) and windows XP (from my secondary internal HDD), so I am led to believe it is a corrupted file or dodgy setting within Windows 7 rather than a hardware fault.
I am trying to run command prompt in windows 7 professional, but it is not appearing in front of me.
1. I tried to run it from Start --> Accessories --> Command Prompt
2. I tried to run by typing cmd on the start menu and then finding the .exe file
3. I tried to run using Run command by typing cmd in Run dialog box
4. I tried to run it from C:/Windows/system32 folder
5. I also tried to run it using right click and then selecting Run as Administrator
But whatever I tried to do I cannot see the command prompt window. Also, when I run the task manager, I can only see the cmd.exe running in the 'processes tab' and that too one new process for each time I have clicked on the cmd.exe.But it does not show cmd.exe in the 'applications tab' where it should be showing.
I have a couple of Windows 7 machines that have suddenly had several empty folders appear in the root directory of the c drive.
The odd part about it, they are all labelled <computername>.1234 or four to five seemingly random numbers. They aren't a jumble of hex numbers that I'd expect from Windows Update in XP (which is pretty much the only thing google has spat out for me on this issue). I'm trying to find out if this is a virus or what sort of software might be creating these folders. I did a full MBAM of the system, as well as a full GMER scan, and gave it a shot with TDSSKiller as well a Sophos AV and they have all found nothing. I also took a look using process explorer and autoruns and I didn't find anything suspicious as far as I could tell so I don't think it's malicious. I just want to figure out what could be creating them, or if anyone had heard of this issue.
Certain games are affected by this lag. The game will run smooth for a while (regardless of graphic settings) but eventually the audio will start crackling. Then graphical lag will begin. Changing the graphics from high to low does nothing and the lag persists for a while after the game is closed. Thing is, setting the affinity of the game to one core prevents the lag from turning up in the first place, however, when set to 1 core I need to have the graphics set to minimum or suffer graphical lag (which stops when settings are set down). When this first appeared I noticed that audiodg was using about 30% of my cpu. Took advice and changed my sound settings which got it down to 5% at worst. Now my CPU stays at about 70% during the lag and memory is in the 80% range. So I dont get what the problem is, if my cpu and memory havent hit max it shouldnt lag.
I have two drives in my system. I've noticed lately that on my D: drive I've been seeing a series of oddly named folders appearing there. The names are long, and are a random series of characters and numbers.
When I try to view the contents I get the message "You Don't Currently Have Permission To Access This Folder" and a button "Click Continue to permanently get access to this folder".
When I click continue, the folder contains two files, both with .vdm extensions.
A typical folder name is:
D:1e2724ed8a00dcab784e6e241ebc4a
It contains names such as:
984F4F99-4037-483A-890E-726F3A41D6C7mpasdlta.vdm
F1670E07-A29C-4C5D-831C-3CAB1235C2E6mpavdlta.vdm
Any idea what these are, why they are being created, why the D: drive, and how to stop it? Do I need these files? Can they be deleted?
When trying to open a CMD prompt it does not appear, even when run as Administrator. When checking in Windows Task Manager it appears in the list of Processes but in list of Applications.
Recently however there is a white line that is going through the wallpaper. and now add to that a red line. At first i thought it was my moniter but the lines only go through the wallpaper, they dont appear in videos, when im browsing the internet, or when in game. They are only appearing on that wallpaper. I can change the wallpaper and the lines aren't there. If i change back they are there. So i figured that my image might be corrupted so I went online and looked for the same picture again. I found it twice and both times the lines were there on the picture. Not after I downloaded it, as I found the picture online, on the webpage, before redownloading.
Since today I can no longer get the "Manage audio devices" window or "Change system sounds" window from the control panel to appear, nor will "playback devices" from right-clicking on the speaker icon on the task bar get me this screen. So pretty much the "Sound" options are not available.
And then 3.5 minutes later I will have it will magically appear.
While this is a fairly new computer it's been running fine for a bit. Only change yesterday: I installed Office 2010. I went through the update history and pretty much everything is office related. I updated graphics drivers. I shouted abuse at the computer.
Suddenly whenever I open the Tech Support Guy webpage in FF it comes up very differently. Once I get to the New Message stage the page appears normal. It opens ok in IE but not in FF. I've deleted all TSG cookies and tried again but the result is the same.
I am having an issue with all of my pictures in Windows 7. They do not appear as pictures, but icons. I have adjusted the slider on the right side but it only changes the size, not the actual content.
I recently performed a clean install of Windows 7 x64 on a laptop. However, Application tasks are not appearing in the Jump List. Certain features such as closing an application's windows or unpinning a program from the Start Menu/Taskbar works, however. I've tried various solutions, such as clearing the %APPDATA%MicrosoftWindowsRecentAutomaticDestinations folder and pinning/unpinning programs from the Start Menu/Taskbar. I also tried the solution posted here: Jump List tasks not working. Nothing works.
I tired of deleting more than two dozen emails that appear in my "Drafts" folder form no where, this is related to WLM only as my other emails work perfectly fine.
Is there any way I can force my wallpapers defined in my theme to appear at the login screen and when I lock my computer (Window key + L)? Also note that the wallpapers should cycle through their normal sequence and time at the login screen.
seem to have a bit of a problem with my start menu, when i8 click on a sub menu it does not away appear, i have included a pic, right clicking on one of the other sub menus then click on the one that just didn't appear makes it show up right, you can still click onto the menu and get an "unknown" item to work, its a custom install with RT Windows 7 Lite that i just installed?
I was cleaning out my computer and deleting the inactive accounts, setting up the guest account, enabling parental controls, etc. When I was finished, I had two administrator accounts (mine and my mom's) and we were going to set up a guest account with parental controls. As I went to do this, I was prompted to set up a password for her account. I clicked "Add new password," but when I did this it password protected the account without me even adding a password? So I signed out of my account to go to my mom's side, but I couldn't access it because there was a password!! But really that password didn't exist, so I went back to my account to remove the "password." After signing out of my account once again, I was able to go into her account which had then turned into a temporary account (no clue how that happened). So I went to switch accounts but the only accounts visible in the Startup screen are her's (which is still a temporary account) and an account titled "Other User" which requires a username + a password -- mine is completely gone.So when I'm in my mom's (temporary) account I can still access the control panel and My Computer, which shows that the accounts do exist!! And so do all of their files!! So all I need to do is get them to show back up in the Startup menu?
