View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a couple of Windows 7 machines that have suddenly had several empty folders appear in the root directory of the c drive.
The odd part about it, they are all labelled <computername>.1234 or four to five seemingly random numbers. They aren't a jumble of hex numbers that I'd expect from Windows Update in XP (which is pretty much the only thing google has spat out for me on this issue). I'm trying to find out if this is a virus or what sort of software might be creating these folders. I did a full MBAM of the system, as well as a full GMER scan, and gave it a shot with TDSSKiller as well a Sophos AV and they have all found nothing. I also took a look using process explorer and autoruns and I didn't find anything suspicious as far as I could tell so I don't think it's malicious. I just want to figure out what could be creating them, or if anyone had heard of this issue.
I have two drives in my system. I've noticed lately that on my D: drive I've been seeing a series of oddly named folders appearing there. The names are long, and are a random series of characters and numbers.
When I try to view the contents I get the message "You Don't Currently Have Permission To Access This Folder" and a button "Click Continue to permanently get access to this folder".
When I click continue, the folder contains two files, both with .vdm extensions.
A typical folder name is:
D:1e2724ed8a00dcab784e6e241ebc4a
It contains names such as:
984F4F99-4037-483A-890E-726F3A41D6C7mpasdlta.vdm
F1670E07-A29C-4C5D-831C-3CAB1235C2E6mpavdlta.vdm
Any idea what these are, why they are being created, why the D: drive, and how to stop it? Do I need these files? Can they be deleted?
this afternoon they began showing only ONE column, on the left side of the folder. the remainder of the folder is blank. see attached screen shot.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI previously had a computer with Vista on it. I purchased a new computer with Windows 7 and installed MS Office 2010. I transferred all my files from my old computer to my new computer and now when I go to insert pictures into my website, the pictures are not showing up as thumbnails so I can view all at the same time. They just show that little icon.I have went through a lot of the threads in response to this problem and have tried them all without any success. Could it be old settings that transferred over and are not compatible.
View 4 Replies View Relatedi was having problems with files giving me an in use error when trying to rename, move or delete files......especially mkvs.....i found an online tutorial using a windows configuration file to disable thumbnailing.....now i have a bunch of photos i need to go through and i can't even open them in the previewer...I can't remember how i got to that file to change it or how to even word the error so i can recreate the search....its nothing simple like disabling it in visual settings.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a 50gb partition that holds mostly video files. In Explorer they show the icon for their file type generated by KMPlayer (my default media player) but I cannot figure out how to go back to thumbnail view.
I tried the View settings in Explorer choosing large icons. And in Organize>Folder Options choose to uncheck the box for "always show icons never thumbnails". But I can't get this drive to show thumbnails. The root folder and all subfolders show only KMP icons.
So I've been seeing this instead of like a thumbnail of the beginning of the video.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've tried going into folder options and unticking and ticking. I've ran disk clean up I've ran sfc /scannow I've installed some codecs
I did find something about editing the registry but when I was following the instructions I couldn't find the specified area mentioned in the article. So I haven't actually change anything in my registry yet.
Using Word 7 and choosing pics to include in document. How do I change the VIEW of my pictures? It currently shows the name of the jpeg only. How do I change it all over to thumbnail of the pictures?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have Windows 7 ultimate 64bit, I just upgraded from professional, when I had professional, all of my videos had thumbnail previews. Now, just about zero do. Is there a way to get this back to the way it was before? For example, I use VLC as my default player to open vids and it is just the cone, no thumb. The same goes with WMP
View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm using Windows 7 just like you all. Ultimate edition, 64-bit. The system is running perfectly without any problems, but I got one issue after two weeks of using Windows 7. The problem is that video preview thumbnails are not showing up. "Show thumbnails instead of icons" in view options is checked.Take a look. On the left side is my HDV camcoder captured files, .mt2 format. But on the right side is my video folder, contains .mp4 and .wmv formats. As you can see .mp4 .wmv thumbnails are missing.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have this issue with thumbnails of photos taking a very long time to load when I open a folder in windows explorer. I mean a really long time, like 5+ minutes, for a folder that contains say 200 pictures. And this happens all the time, regardless of what else may be running, and regardless of what size thumbnails I select. What's weird too is that if I have an external harddrive hookep up through a USB 2 or 3, and open a folder in windows explorer with a similar number of pictures, those thumbnails load normal, fast. So it's only slow when it's reading thumbnails from my internal harddrive. Otherwise I don't believe my internal drive is slow, as everything else like launching programs etc works fine.
btw, I'm on an Envy 17 laptop, i5, 8 gigs RAM, 640 gig hars drive, Win 7 home premium. But I don't think my system config matters, since as I said, thumbnails load fine when reading from an external drive.
When I upgraded from XP (a long time ago) I deleted all the thumbs.db files. I can see thumbnails on my local C: drive. If I browse my network drive I can see thumbnails.
But I have also mapped my network drive as Z:. If I browse the mapped drive I can't see thumbnails.
Can anybody confirm that they can/cannot see thumbnails on mapped drives that don't contain thumbs.db.
Folders don't initially incorporate Folder.jpg into their thumbnail. If I browse into the folder I can see the thumbnail for Folder.jpg only. If I then return to the parent folder the folder now incorporates Folder.jpg into it's thumbnail.
Recently I had to restore my laptop to factory settings and now when I go online and try to click on an image it will not open. the screen goes slightly darker and a single white bar about 6 inches long runs horizontaly across the top of my screen. The background is still visible but thats it. I am using win 7 home on a 64 bit system. Is there something I can reload or enable?
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy thumb nails for every file format is just the generic video file icon. This is very very annoying when trying to video edit.
View 5 Replies View RelatedRunning Windows 7 Pro X64. Some *.avi files show thumbnails but others show an icon. Folder view options the same for all sub-folders in the main video folder. "Always show icons, never thumbnails" is unchecked. Switching that setting causes a change in some folders but not in others. Not a train smash.
View 9 Replies View RelatedOK basically the title explains it all i thought i fixed this by system restore but after a few days my video and music files are not generating thumbnails all there is only VLC icon is showing. (some thumbnails are showing and all picture files have thumbnail)
here is a example Image - TinyPic - Free Image Hosting, Photo Sharing & Video Hosting
Suddenly, I am getting half greyed out images when I click on a thumbnail. Had 25 out of 67 on a card I just uploaded and thought it was a corrupted card but just tried to open an image from several months ago and the same thing happened - only get the top half of the image. Not always half, might only be a third.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI had to try this because most of my video files would not load thumbnails.
View 2 Replies View RelatedAbout a week ago thumbnail images suddenly stopped showing (mainly .jpgs & .pngs) in several of my folders. It seemed to be fairly random across all folders & drives (2 partitions on C drive) whereby some display correctly within a folder but most now show as windows photo viewer icons.Images uploaded in "My Pictures Folder" on C drive are not affected.
I have done the obvious:-
1. in folder options > always show icons, never thumbnails (unchecked)
2. deleted & rebuilt the thumbnail cache
3. run malwares scans (system is clean)
4. done restores (Microsoft & Adobe updates)
5. selected medium icons to view . . .
Also, using the Windows Photo Viewer default preview pane no longer works if Id/click on an image it opens in a new window.I had been using Mystic Thumbs successfully for a while to enable me to see .svg, .pspimages & .psd files (as a graphic designer I want quick access to these) Uninstalling it hasn't made any difference.
Is it possible to load all the thumbnails for a folder when i open the folder in windows 7? Currently, windows only loads the thumbnails for the pictures that i have in view, and I have to scroll down for it to load the rest. I'm using fastpictureviewer to view thumbnails of my RAW .CR2 pictures so the thumbnails take some time to load, and my folders can have hundreds or thousands of pictures in them and i dont' want to have to scroll down and wait repeatedly to load all the thumbnails.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI've spent the last couple of days trying desperately to resolve this issue. I have looked everywhere but cannot find an answer... PROBLEM: I have thousands of PDFs in hundreds of folders. When I go to a particular folder, I use the slider to change the Explorer views from "Content" to "Extra Large Icons" but cannot get a thumbnail preview of the PDFs - all I see is an Acrobat Icon preview.I know that this is an issue on the X64-bit verson of Windows 7, but I'm running 32-bit Windows 7 (Ultimate)! ATTEMPTS: I've tried several ways to resolve this but nothing worked so far. Specifically, I: 1. Made sure that the File Type Associations are correct.2.Unchecked Folder options>View>"Always show icons, never thumbnails".3. Made sure that Folder options>View> "Display file icon on thumbnails" is checked.4.Made sure that Performance>Settings>"Show thumbnails instead of icons" is checked.5. Tried the simple method suggessted at other forums: going into Adobe and opening the directory to preview the files as thumbnails from there and then refreshing the folder in Windows Explorer to display a thumbnail preview of the PDF file - Didn't work either!6. Ran "Repair Acrobat Installation".7. Uninstalled and Reinstalled Acrobat 9 (including associated registry files).8. Installed the latest version of Reader.9. Tried installing other software (PDF-XChange and Foxit) but these don't create PDF thumbnails in Windows Explorer either.
View 9 Replies View RelatedFrom a fresh start up of the computer, I can get my thumbnails to generate any where on my computer, the NAS, or the USB attached to the NAS. However, after a short period (not specific, can be 5 mins or 30 mins), the USB drive attached to the NAS will no longer generate thumbnails, however, everywhere else still does (ie local files or even NAS files).
I have multiple machines, and it happens on this machine only (brand new only 2 weeks old, fresh windows 7 installed only 2 weeks ago).
I am using Windows 7 64bit Ultimate, but so are the other 2 windows 7 machines, and they do not forget to show thumbnail previews after a little while.
- "Always show icons, never thumbnails" from folder options is UNTICKED. - tried all options from here Thumbnail Previews - Enable or Disable - Windows 7 Forums (with everything set to enable thumbnails)
What seems to happen is that it suddenly forgets that thumbnails are enabled, but only for that specific drive. Using the link above, it should always be the first example "EXAMPLE: Thumbnails Enabled in Windows Explorer" but when it decides to stop working it becomes "EXAMPLE: Thumbnails Disabled in Windows Explorer", however, it only effects that one specific USB device attached to my NAS.
It has to be a Windows 7 issue on this machine only, as all my other Windows 7 and XP machines always show thumbnails. As far as I know, all the Windows 7 machines have exactly the same software loaded (I re-formatted them all about 2 weeks ago when the new machine was built).
If I restart the computer all thumbnails are working again until it no longer likes me.
I installed a program that works with images and then uninstalled it because it doesn't do the thing I needed it to. However, in a Winrar-style fashion, thumbnails of the images it would work with are replaced with the program's icon. This effect has stayed even though I uninstalled it. It's just an annoyance, but is there a way that I can get the image thumbnails back?
