I have had windows 7 installed for over 12 months now but lately I am finding my pc to be a bit slow. I have just purchased some more RAM for it and I am going to get a 2tb internal HDD as well in the next few days. Then I am going to format the HDD and reinstall windows 7.Now I already have a 600gb HDD which is partitioned into 3 drives (1 of these has win 7 installed). Is it possible when I put the windows 7 installation disc in and reformat the HDD to unpartition 2 of these drives and leave the other one untouched?

So, I have my computer set up so that Windows 7 is on my C: partition, and all my programs are installed on my D: partition.
If I was to do a clean install of the C: partition, how would that affect the programs on the D:? Would I have to reinstall them all?

I have 3 identical PCs with 2 partitions: C and D.I created a system image for one PC, C only. But when I restore that system image into the other 2 PCs (using Wind7 DVD), it formats both C and D and restore. The problem is that I have data on D and I don't want it to be formatted. I only want to restore the C image.

I have a Toshiba laptop that came with a preinstalled copy of Windows-7 (64 bit) version purchased in July 2010. No setup disk came with the laptop, but there is a "Toshiba recovery media creator" utility. Now, I want to format my laptop, and here I have few queries regarding this:
[1] What is the better option for formatting my drive? Should I use the Toshiba media-creator or install a clean version of Windows-7 from an ISO download (am I allowed to do that? If so, what is a good site to download?) There is a "sticker-certificate" on the bottom of my laptop with a product-key. Will it work with the new install?
[2] Do I have the option of installing a 32-bit version of Windows-7 instead of 64-bit with the above license? The reason is that most applications I use are 32-bit and hence a 32-bit OS is better suited for me. But does the license allow me to do that?
[3] (The tricky part) - Since I have a good 320GB HDD, I want to dual-boot by creating two partitions - with a linux distribution (Ubuntu/openSuse) running on the second partition? Assuming I don't have the option of clean-install, will I be able to create the extra partition for linux using the Toshiba utility?

I recently installed a fresh copy of Windows on my SSD. During setup I opted to delete all my old partitions on the drive, however I did not format the drive. Will this decision have an impact on the performance of the drive? Should I have reformatted the unallocated space on the drive to get better performance?

One of my friends has a windows 7 computer with an account for himself, his mother and his 2 sisters. All the home directorys are stored in drive C. Partition D is shared. The question is, how to get a partition layout like this?
Partition 1: OS + programs
Partition 2: home partition for himself
Partition 3: home partition for his mother
Partition 4: home partition for his sister
Partition 5: home partition for his other sister
Partition 6: shared partition for some photos.

My friend wiped my friend's computer on a Vista installer by choosing "load drivers" or something in the partition screen and then pressing format. I can't find this anywhere, or what I mean is there are no drivers to load. When I try to format, I can only format so that my computer saves a Windows.old file. Does that get rid of viruses? Does it get rid of a slow computer?

I have a Sony Vaio with two partitions, a main one that 412 GB and another one that is 39GB. The operating system is on the main partition (412GB) but I have been having a lot of problems with it so I want to install a new Windows 7 Home Premium version.
The problem is that I do not have an external hard disk drive and cannot afford one right now. I have the Windows 7 DVD that came with the computer (Home Premium 64-bit) and I also created a USB drive off of it, and will probably be using the USB since it's much faster and smoother.
Anyway, my question is how do i install Windows 7 to the main partition (400GB one) without having to format it? I am aware that I can probably install a new version of Windows in the same partition and then the old Windows will be moved to a folder called Windows (old) but in the past I have struggled with deleting that folder and it created more problems than anything

I re-installed Windows 7 on a fresh partition this morning after I started experiencing some glitches. Got the new partition up and running with a fresh version of Win 7, but now I'm unable to delete / format the previous partition it was on. When I select format drive, after warning me all files will be lost, it says Windows is unable to complete the format. If I try and manually delete all the files, it tells me I need permission from "Trusted Installer" to make changes to certain folders.
