View 0 Replies View RelatedI usually have about half dozen IE windows opened at anytime. I might start a few more and then close a couples. But eventually I notice one or two if the IE processes start to use up several hundred MB ram up to eventually 1GB ram. When one of the IE processes hit the 1 GB ram mark, it's inevitable that one of the IE windows then stop functioning, as clicking the link you don't get any page loading. If I then shut down that process, then everything works again.
Once in a while, I notice that one of the IE process would reach high ram usage of hundred MB ram and the screen saver would stop coming on as well as the power setting for turning off screen would be disabled. This is even if there's no IE process running a video at that time. It's possible that I might have open IE to say view a video before but I know I close that IE process and yet this still happens. If I go and shut down all the IE processes that seem to take a lot of mem, then screen saver comes on again. I imagine that this also affects other browsers as well?

View 3 Replies View RelatedSometimes you want to do CTRL+Z in an application but since it's not focused you happen to do it in windows explorer by error, undoing stuff you've done like renaming/moving directories. So I would like to disable the CTRL+Z hotkey in windows explorer (not in other applications though); I don't use it anyway.
View 2 Replies View RelatedDoes Windows 7 finally allow me to disable this "feature"? It's one of the few things which I have an irrational hate for. If I want to rename the file I will use the rightclick context menu. PLEASE. I only use the left mouse button for two things:selecting something and doubleclicking to open something.
View 4 Replies View RelatedNot sure if "focus" is the right term here, but anyway. I use "list" view almost exclusively so this may not be an issue with other views. But one of my beefs with Windows 7 is: if you're viewing a folder that has multiple rows of files or sub folders; then you click on of the the folders that's more to the right of the window and the entire contents of the window reorients itself so what you clicked on is now more towards the left area of the window. Know what I'm saying?
Here's a before and after of what I'm talking about.. Open Window...
Now I click on a file that's slightly out of view and it does this without me touching the slider at all.....
In Windows Explorer, Detail View, is there a way to remove/disable the additional columns? (ie: Track, Artist, length, etc) I'm a simple person, and only want the main columns displayed, (Size, Type, Date) and Windows 7 seems to ignore me when i change the views. Even the "Reset All", and "Apply to All" seem to be ignored after a day later. In XP your could remove them from RegEdit under HKCRSystemFileAssociations and deleting the "Audio", "Video", and "Images" keys, and Explorer would 'forget' how to handle them, and details view would remain the same, but Windows 7 doesn't seem to respond to this either.

At first I thought this would be easy but Im still completely lost, I have tried searching for possible solutions like blocking port 80 from the hosts file, or disabling tcpip from the registry but no luck.
Is anyone else with me on this? I run UAC high, prompts all the time, tis what i want. What i DONT care for is it being accompanied with a slight pause, then screen goes black for about 1/2 second THEN the prompt shows.

View 4 Replies View RelatedFor security reasons, I want to turn my Internet connection via my Netgear router on and off, as I like.In Windows XP it was eay. I could pull out a LAN icon from the Network connection section in the Control Panel to the desktop. Then all I needed was to click it and choose to disable/enable the Internet connection.I could also disable it from the tray icon and enable it from the LAN icon.In Windows 7 I don't find such a possibility. It is in the Internet all the time, or if I disable it, it is complicated to enable it again...

View 2 Replies View RelatedI currently am forced to have to use public computers where all the security is on the lowest security options ergo meaning there is a warning stating: "to not expect any privacy, and therefore any information used or stored on library computers may be accessed by others."All of these are unadvisable, as I used to run corporations where we were adament in regards to protecting the privacy and rights of others. How with their being a warning "I do not have access to administrative details," can I disable all network connections, as well as disabling the internet to guard my privacy? The system I am speaking of is known as "CASSIE," and previous to the city over seeing all aspects of IT, I had no problems. Now essays have been changed, I have had pertinent details, i.e. how to pass the bar, mastering the essay portion of the bar.... and all of these have been erased from my USB's along with many other pertinent files.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI've got a desktop computer with XP Pro SP3 and a laptop with both XP and Windows 7(dual-boot). These two computers are connected through a router in a network(desktop comp-wired, laptop-wireless). Everything works fine, except the sharing in Windows 7. From the desktop computer I can access all resources on the laptop without problems. From the laptop, everything works fine too, when I try to access the desktop computer's shared folders and printers, but ONLY FROM XP. Every time I want to do this from Windows 7, I'll be prompted for a "network password". I have no idea what I had to enter - I did a search over the internet, and found following suggestions:
-turn on network discovery, file and printer sharing, public folder sharing at the Advanced Sharing Settings, and disable password-protected sharing
-both computers are in the same workgroup
-disabled the limitation of blank passwords in the group policy editor
NOTHING WORKED. (firewall might not be the reason, because I use Windows Firewall, and it's configured to enable sharing)What username/password do I have to enter, or how could I access the resources without a password?
The wireless is one I share with my roommates and is fast. The wired NIC connects to a router which has slower internet. The reason I connect to the wired router is so my PC can talk to a linux machine, which I use for some data downloading/analysis.I want to disable internet from the wired connection but keep the ability to talk to other machines on the wired network. I just changed the IPv4 settings and deleted the DNS server information. Is this the best way to do so? I want the wireless to provide internet.

View 10 Replies View RelatedThis is a bit of a strange problem, admittedly. Nonetheless, I'm hopeful that someone here may have a solution.Win 7 Explorer has this "feature" whereby you can undo all sorts of file operations (rename, move, delete) by pressing ctrl+z or by clicking the "undo <whatever>" menu item in the context menu.I find this incredibly annoying, because the only time I use this feature is by accident (either I was trying to ctrl+z in another program window without realizing the focus was switched to, say, the desktop; or I simply failed to click the menu item I was aiming for, and hit the undo <whatever> instead..)
