XP Machine Can See Machine But Can't Access Shared Folders
Jul 31, 2009I have Windows Seven 7600 and i'm trying to share files with a XP SP2 machine!
Problems:
-XP machine can see Seven machine but can't access shared folders!
-Seven machine can see XP machine but when i'm trying to see shared folders it gives me an error(see on screenshot)
-Network map doesn't work(see screenshot)
-Both machines have same workgroup MSHOME but when i go to homegroup it says there is no people in the homegroup!(see on screenshots)
Other info:
Before i couldn't turn network discovery on,every time i was set it to on he was going to off so I searched on this forum(great forum) and finally i was able to turn it on,maybe others have this problem so there what i did:i go to start=>run=>services.msc and i turned on(also i switched them to automatic startup) these services DNS Client, Function Discovery Resource Publication, SSDP Discovery, and UPnP Device Host services.
IPv6 currently is enabled!
Can't Open A Shared File On A Windows 7 Machine If It Is Already Open On An XP Machine In Same Network
Jan 23, 2012I have a small network of six computers. Five of them run XP and I just added a Windows 7 machine. I've got a Microsoft Access 2003 database that all of the computers share that is hosted on one of the XP machines. The Windows 7 machine can access the Access database through the network just fine, as long as no one else is accessing it. However, if someone else on an XP machine on the network is using the file, it won't open on the Windows 7 machine. Doubling clicking the file on Windows 7 gives me the circling blue icon for a second or two, then nothing happens. If the XP user exits the database, then I can open it fine. Permissions on the XP that is hosting the database is set to allow everyone. And all the XP machines can access it at the same time.

Feb 27, 2012I tried doing a lot of searching on here and google, but didn't find a resolution. I have a Machine with Windows 7 Alienware x86 hosting a shared network printer. I am able to find and print on a machine with Windows 7 Home Premium x64 with no problem. Both machines belong to the x64 Homegroup. I have a netbook with Windows 7 Starter and find the printer on the network and even try adding it with \hostnameprintername. I find it no problem and drivers install on the netbook, but when I try to print it does nothing. Works great on the other two machines. I also joined the homegroup to see if that will work, but it didn't.

Jun 19, 2011I'm trying to access a shared folder on my windows xp machine. i went to map network drive, use different credentials, and typed in the account name and password that i had given rights to on the other computer. but it just reprompted for different credentials.as a temporary fix i created a user on this computer with the exact same credentials as the ones i typed in, and it works for that user. so apparently the computer didnt understand what i typed in for 'use different credentials'?

Apr 24, 2011I just bought an Alienware laptop with windows 7 home premium 64bit. As soon as I got it, I connected it to my network and attempted to access my shared files, but it wouldn't detect any of my computers on the network. I have an iMac with Snow Leopard, sharing a few hard drives, & an old Qosmio with Windows XP Media Center Edition, sharing one hard drive. The iMac and Qosmio both detect each other with no issues, sharing files has never been better. I don't remember doing anything special, other than sharing files, on Windows XP, for the files to be present on other devices. On Snow Leopard, I added the XP account, & the Windows 7 account. I enabled sharing files, specifically, AFP & SMB.
And then checked both XP & Windows 7 accounts to assure accessibility. The Group (Workgroup) is the same across all 3 devices. XP detects my iMac & can access the files, & the iMac can detect XP & access the files. Now, my iMac can sometimes detects the Alienware/Windows 7, but since I'm not sharing any files/folders on it, it can't access it. My main problem(s): Windows 7 never detected XP. Once, Windows 7 detected & accessed all files on the iMac, but after shutdown/restart (Possibly updating Windows 7 to Service Pack 1), Windows 7 does not detect or show any computer on the network folder other than itself.
If I turn on "PS3 Media Server" on the iMac, Windows 7 detects it, but when I open it, it takes me to Windows Media Player, which then tells me that the PS3 Media server is empty. On Windows 7, Advanced Sharing Settings, "Home or Work" network settings (I'm have my network set to "Home Network"), Network Discover is ON. File & f=printer sharing is ON. Public Folder Sharing is On. Media Streaming is On. File sharing connection is set to 40- or 56-bit encryption. Password protected sharing is Off. HomeGroup connections is set to "Use user accounts and passwords to connect to other computers". I have Kaspersky Internet Security 2011, if that matters. XP has it as well.
Make Documents Folder In-accessible From Other Computers On Network
Dec 2, 2009I have tried over and over to completely disable sharing over my home network of my personal documents folder (not the public folder) yet it still shows up and is fully accessible on any computer in the house. I have a password but that's not the point, I want to be able to make the my documents folder inaccessible completely from other computers on the network. It's disabled in the sharing properties but that makes no difference. Any ideas?

One of the Windows 7 machines is acting as a server providing all the other computers with shared folders that they network to via the "map network drive feature". The two Windows 7 machines connect to this central Windows 7 machine no problem. But the XP machines will sometimes lose connection to the network drives when accessed. They cannot see the network drives until the central Windows 7 computer is restarted. The other two Windows 7 machines have no problem connecting, even when the XP machines are having problems.

There aren't any versions of Windows listed anywhere in the article, or none that I can find. In addition to that, it doesn't specify whether I'm supposed to be doing this on the server end or the client end. I would assume the client end but it's just another thing I want to make sure of before I go ahead and do it.

ive set up many networks in the past with a bunch of xp machines without any trouble but now i am having trouble my first step was on the windows 7 machine, i went to control panel -> network and sharing center -> setup a connection or network -> set up a new network this is where i believe i am making a mistake of some kind, it seems that the windows 7 machine is assuming that i want to set up the network wirelessly, when it is connected to the router via Ethernet. it simply brings me to a screen that says choose the wireless router or access point you want to configure, and hangs there with a greyed out next button everything seems to be going fine on the xp machine, i created a new network called "share bear", told it that the computer connects through a residential gateway, enabled file and printer sharing, rebooted the machine, and confirmed that there was a new folder in the network places for shared documents..i went back to the windows 7 machine where it was still hanging, rebooted it, looked for the new network in network and sharing center and it wasn't there, i tried again to "set up a new network" on the windows 7 machine with the same hanging screen
Networking - Machine Can Only See One Another Machine
Aug 18, 2009I have a small three PC home network. Two PC are running Windows 7 and one running Vista.
All three machines have the same homegroup settings. The ability to view machines on the network is very patchy. One machine can see the others, while another machine can only see one other machine. Sometimes machines cannot see any others on the network.
All machines are connected wirelessly with strong signals through a BT 2700HGV Business Hub router. All of the machines can access the Internet without problems.
All machines run Eset Smart Security with the Windows firewall is turned off.
Any advice to create a stable network would be appreciated.

Dec 17, 2012Installing W7 using an old HDD on an old machine to install W7 on a new SSD to be used on a new machine.I'm currently using this old machine from '09 and its performance levels have died down a lot. I bought all the components to build a new machine except I didn't want to spend extra money on another HDD to install the OS on my new 180GB Intel SSD. So basically, I want to use the HDD from my old computer, install W7 onto the SSD, then transfer the drive to my new computer, and use it on the machine and just reinstall all my other files.

Mar 8, 2012Three Computers on a home network. Desktop in Office (Windows 7) . Wife's Laptop (Windows 7). My laptop ( Vista unfortunately). Norton Security Suite and all three. I have a network setup and a Homegroup established.
Everything was setup and working so that I could share files between all three. My wife was able to open a desktop file make changes and save it back to the desktop computer.
All of that changed. Now we get a message when trying to save the file. "You do not have permission to save in this location. Contact the administrator to obtain permission".
I have given the entire "MY Documents" sharing permission to everyone. I have checked everything. I have looked over all kinds of forums and nothing has worked.
I am to the point of doing a complete reinstall of Windows 7 on my Desktop.

7.I understand the lockers created by "Folder Lock" are UNDELETABLE.

Using Mac Shared Printer On W7 PC
Dec 16, 2009I have a Home network that was configured as follows:
Computers:
XP-Pro PC - connected via USB to a - Shared Photo Printer
Mac Leopard - connected via USB to a -Shared All-in-One Printer
XP-Pro Laptop
I also have an Ethernet networked Laser Printer and an Ethernet networked NAS.
With this setup I could print on all three printers from all three computers. I stored all documents, photos, music, etc on the NAS and it could be accessed very quickly from all three computers.
I replaced the XP-Pro PC with a new Win 7 PC. Now I cannot see the Shared All-in-One that is connected to the Mac via USB. I cannot get into the Mac from the Win 7 machine without an ID and Password which I never set and do not have. I can still print on the Mac-attached printer and get into the Mac from the XP-Pro laptop.
Can anyone help me to be able to access the Mac and to use the Mac-attached shared printer from the Win 7 machine?
Can't Cut From Shared Network Drives
Oct 19, 2011ok i have a home network set up on 2 pcs with win 7 64bit
i have set up shared drives on both pcs ,, i have set the permisions on the shared drives so that everyone can do whatever they want change files delete files ect
so i expect to be able from one pc to cut files and paste to the other but i cant ,,, i cant even copy from one pc to the other unless i do it from the pc that is going to have the file added
