View 2 RepliesI have my mbp for 9 months, snow leopard should find automatically every pc on the network but It never found my home desktop everytime, only some times.
but I could easily connect to it using automount maker or in finder with go -> connect to server. I haven't change anything (at least as far as i know) and now my mac can't find or connect to my Windows 7 desktop...!
my desktop see's my mac on the network and can connect to its shared folders but my mac can't see the desktop. my other laptops at home runing windows xp and ubuntu can see the desktop too, so i don't know what is wrong! workgroup is the same.
this is definitely a problem from my desktop as my mac can connect to other pcs too.
I have six workstations (Dell T-7500s with Windows 7 Pro) set up on a HomeGroup and all running as if an Administrator is logged on. I have two sets of Printers attached to two of the workstations, one each DNP DS-40 & DS-80 printers on each of those machines. I have shared the printers out to the other workstations and the printers function properly with one exception. On the machines that are using a shared printer two of the advanced document settings are grayed out, "Overcoat Finish" and "Print Retry". I am not too concerned about "Print Retry" but I need my folks to be able to access the "Overcoat Finish" selection. I have tried setting the printer properties to full control for everyone but it made no difference. The settings in question work normally on the host machines and also on the machine that I set up the HomeGroup on, which is not one of the host machines.

However, the odd thing, to me anyway, is if I use Explorer and type the Desktop address I can access the folders.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have no problem networking the two operating systems and sharing folders and printers (use work not home on Windows 7). BUT, the minute I open network and/or network sharing on the windows 7 computer I lose my internetconnection on both computers and have to go through a shut down of the Windows 7 computer and unplug the cable modem and the router and restart everything. You can't get to shared folders without going through network. If you do you have to restart everything to get back internet connection.

Is there something I am missing or doing wrong?
We have just installed Windows 7 on one of our computers last week and we have 2 other computers that have an XP operating system The XP computers need access to shared folders on the Windows 7 computer and this was working fine yesterday However today it has suddenly stopped. View 3 Replies View Relatedi had a couple off folders shared, no problem we could work in them, and all was well. But now, the folders are not accessible. Also when i look at the network, i can only see my own machine. The other machine's are not there. When i try to open my shared folders, i get this message: (keep in mind that its translated)\CLOUDAFS-HZFPCLOUD is not accessible. You may not have the permission to use this network resource. contact the server administrator if you want to know if you have access permissions. View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a new HP8710W laptop that originally had Windows XP Professional installed from the factory. I just received my Windows 7 Professional 32 bit upgrade kit and have installed it on my computer
I also have a Desktop PC that is running Windows XP Professional.
Prior to installing Windows 7 on my laptop I was able to see the shared folders on HP8710W laptop while running the Windows XP Professional operating system. I would like to be able to access the shared files on my Desktop computer that is running Windows XP Professional with the HP8710W laptop that is running Windows 7 Professional 32 bit. I am a novice when it comes to networks and would appreciate any suggestions on what to do to get this to work.
I anticipate installing Windows 7 on my desktop in the near future but have not done the conversion as of this date.
I would appreciate some step by step instructions if they are available and not too much trouble to pass on to me.
I am running a TRENDNET TEW-432BRP wireless router H/W:vDl.OR
So basically new folders added by uTorrent to my "Download" folder which is shared to everyone on my network don't show up when I access the older from any computer on the network. (except the one where the files are located)I have to say they do eventually show up... I guess when I restart the host or something maybe?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've placed two computers in a homegroup. Computer 1 can access Computer 2's shared folders, however, Computer 2 cannot access Computer 1's shared folders. When attempting to access the shared folders (with read/write permissions), I get the spinning wheel and then it just eventually says 1 item selected at the bottom of the explorer window and stops. The folders do not expand. They're on the same workgroup with no other computers, I read that they should be or something.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm using Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit and it's on a network with a Techgear MB902 PVR. I used to be able to watch movies in my Windows 7 shared folders on my TV via the MB902 but after I bought a new PC and installed Windows 7 I've had problems accessing the Windows 7 shared folders.
When I connect to my PC it asks for a login and password, and none of my pc or network passwords work. Strangely enough, when I restart Windows 7 the problem goes away and I can login successfully without a password, but then later the same day or the next day the login/password problem has returned.
I've trawled the internet looking for solutions, and tried all of the plausible looking ones, editing the registry, unsharing and then resharing. They all seem to work but then I realise that it's the reboot that works and not the fixes because the problem returns.
The MB902 has a hard drive and I can access the files on that from my PC with no issues it's just going the other way that I have problems.
I've been wracking my brains, but cannot make this work in windows 7. It was super easy in xp. How can I set up 2 computers to share folders? I've created a homegroup, on both computers, but still they aren't communicating.

View 1 Replies View RelatedThe HomeGroup shares have been a recurring issue that I haven't been able to solve, but the really perplexing one is the shared folder issue which just cropped up. Some of my shared folders still work, but e, g and h (music and video respectively) for some reason spit back "Access Denied" on all of the other computers in my house, this is in spite of the fact that Permissions on them are set to Full Control for Everyone. With regards to HomeGroup shares, they simply don't show up no matter what I do, I'd like to fix that one too, but I'm not sure what I can do to fix that.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have installed Windows 7 on a new PC and been playing around with it for a couple of days.
I have added it to my home workgroup and shared out some folders. I have turned off Windows firewall, however if I try to view the shared folders from other machines (XP) on the home network I get asked for a login and password.
Yet if I browse the other XP machines from the Windows 7 machine I can see all their folders. I can't find a setting anywhere that would seem to address this!
I have a very strange problem with a new Dell optiplex Windows 7 professional Pc I am using it as a file server. I keep getting messages in the shared folders. Access denied, file in use, You don't have permission. Something thinks these files are in use and they are not. If you reboot the computer they all clear but it comes back on different files. It is not a permission problem.
View 1 Replies View Relatedi have multiple family members in the household, along with two Windows 7 desktops and three Windows 7 laptops. All pc's are on the same workgroup with file and folder sharing working faultlessly - we do not use Homegroups.I have a large amount of important data on my desktop that serves as a data backup for all work I do on my laptop. On top of this it contains a large amount of media files that get shared to all pc's too. All communication is done over the network. However, as the other family members are far less tech savvy, shall we say, than I, I am growing concerned with how easy it would be for someone else to access my laptop backup work, as it is all business related, and do something disastrous to it.I would like to have it so that my laptop is the only machine allowed to access this backup data from my desktop. The rest of the shared folders on this desktop would have to remain accessible to 'everyone'.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have three computers all running Windows 7 Ultimate x64, one of which functions partly as a media center (hosting music etc), the second and third being my office workstation and laptop respectively. The media center has a hard line to my cable modem (via Trendnet wireless-N router) while the latter two connect via wireless; the workstation via a wireless ethernet hub and the laptop via it's integrated wireless.I currently have all of my media folders shared via homegroup on the media center.
My laptop (Lenovo Thinkpad W500) can access all of the shared folders. My office workstation, while I can "see" the shared libraries/folders on my media center, hangs (the explorer window appears to be perpetually loading) whenever I attempt to open any of the folders. Sometimes when this happens I can kill/restart explorer but ever so often explorer itself will be unable to restart and I will have to reboot the entire machine.I have Windows Security Essentials running on both machines - all three are almost identical with respects to the installed software.I have tried reconfiguring the homegroup multiple times, flushing the dns cache, resetting and cycling the router, and have even swapped out wireless adapters (on the problematic workstation) to no avail.
I decided to connect the xbox to my home network, but when I did so all of the shared files and folders got locked. Being locked I cannot watch the videos or play the music with manually unlocking them first. So is there a way to revert them back to their unlocked state? There has to be an easier way than manually doing it... because I have around 50GB of music... that would take an eternity. Here's a screenshot for reference: [URL].
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a laptop with Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit. My desktop has Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit. I have been trying to allow folder sharing between the two, but it won't work.
On my desktop, I can access all my files from my laptop. However, when I try to access the shared files from Vista on my laptop, it takes forever and then I get a message that says "Windows cannot access \BILL-PC." But I can access all of the media files.
They are both on the same network entitled WORKGROUP.
So far, I have done the following on both PCS
- Enabled sharing of the printer itself.
- Gave permissions to 'everyone' and full access under c:windowssystem32spoolprinters.
- Added guest users that share all files and folders.
They are obviously on the same network since I can see them both listed. However, why it keeps telling me it cannot access my desktop.
have shared a printer on Windows 7 and in the security tab I gave "Everyone" access rights. I still get the error message - I keep getting the error messageWindows cannot connect to the printer. I was able to shared directories and able to access them without any problems. It's the darn printer that I can't connect. It's part of my assignment to test the printer to see if I can install the driver via point and print to a shared printer on Windows 7. Someone told me it's a Windows 7 security issue. On both another Windows XP and another Windows 7 PC able to to connect to a second Windows 7 PC and see the printer, but it won't let me connect to it. Any ideas how to resolve it. Is it because one pc is on a domain while the other is in a workgroup? If so why am I able to access shared folder, but cannot connect to a shared printer.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have an intermittent problem with networking my desktop machine to my laptop. Sometimes after I hibernate my laptop and then wake it up, I am unable to access my shared drives on my laptop from my desktop. I am always able to go the other way (access shared drives on desktop from laptop. When it does this, even reboots of both machines don't help.
I just asked Windows 7 to diagnose and I get this. Usually after "messing" with the network settings, log offs, reboots, who knows, it usually starts working both ways again until some later hibernation restart of laptop. I wish I could pinpoint some common things that cause it but I just can't figure it out. Any ideas?
I've been running disk and system maintenance on my computer, and sfc found some corruption it couldn't repair. It looks like it's .NET framework 4 that has the errors, so I uninstalled it and its updates, then reinstalled it and updated it, but the problem remains. Since that didn't solve it, I'm not sure if that's where the problem is or what to do about it. Anyone know which files I need to look at before I resort to doing an upgrade/repair installation?

Before i couldn't turn network discovery on,every time i was set it to on he was going to off so I searched on this forum(great forum) and finally i was able to turn it on,maybe others have this problem so there what i did:i go to start=>run=>services.msc and i turned on(also i switched them to automatic startup) these services DNS Client, Function Discovery Resource Publication, SSDP Discovery, and UPnP Device Host services.
IPv6 currently is enabled!
I have a Home network that was configured as follows:
Computers:
XP-Pro PC - connected via USB to a - Shared Photo Printer
Mac Leopard - connected via USB to a -Shared All-in-One Printer
XP-Pro Laptop
I also have an Ethernet networked Laser Printer and an Ethernet networked NAS.
With this setup I could print on all three printers from all three computers. I stored all documents, photos, music, etc on the NAS and it could be accessed very quickly from all three computers.
I replaced the XP-Pro PC with a new Win 7 PC. Now I cannot see the Shared All-in-One that is connected to the Mac via USB. I cannot get into the Mac from the Win 7 machine without an ID and Password which I never set and do not have. I can still print on the Mac-attached printer and get into the Mac from the XP-Pro laptop.
Can anyone help me to be able to access the Mac and to use the Mac-attached shared printer from the Win 7 machine?
