DVDRW Drive Doesnot Always Open
Aug 18, 2011sometimes if I hit the button to eject the drive, it acts like its about to eject but doesn't, and if I try again the same result occurs. If I hit it two or three times it will eject but it doesnt always at the first push of the button.

Jan 17, 2013One of my Dell systems took a dive (no power, etc.) so I pulled out the hard drive and hooked it up to this Dell Vostro 260 so the person could have access to their files. I've checked the BIOS to boot from it, but nope, doesn't work. The system goes black, little cursor for a moment then asks me if I want to run repair to start normally. I've tried repair and normally but still can't boot from this external. The system does see it, so I'm really not sure what to do

I initially got an error on both drives for "Windows cannot verify the digital signature for the drivers required for this device. (code 52)"
Both listed the cdrom.sys driver but also the unsigned file GEARAspiWDM.sys in the windowssystem32 directory.
I figured I'd rename the GEAR file and uninstall/reinstall the drivers for the optical drives, but it just tells me that it loaded cdrom.sys but can't load any device driver for the hardware.
Device manager shows them with yellow caution tales and lists both reasons as "Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing (code 39)
On the driver details tab both show C:windowssystem32cdrom.sys as the driver and it shows it as signed.
Can't Open Any Type Of Cd In Windows 7. 3 Different Dvdrw's Connected
Apr 24, 2011I am trying to load battlefield bad company 2, sims, dvd's, and cd's on my computer, but when I go to My Computer and double click the dvdrw's, windows says it needs to format the disk.
if I press format, it has an error, if I dont, it also has an error.
I have installed 3 dvdrws that I have tested and had working in another computer, and the same goes for each one.
When I insert a disk, the mouse cursor shows the little CD right by it, but nothing happens after it blinks a few times.
Bios recognizes each dvdrw drive, they will boot windows 7 disk before loading windows even, disk management shows each one is working good.
I got one dvd to read through a third party program called dvd decrypter. I didn't go as far as to see if it would copy to the hdd, but it showed all the files.
I used another third party software to analyze the sims2 disk to see if it could copy (i didnt have the full version so I couldnt copy it onto the hdd) but it did show the files as well.
I cannot see any music disks, cdrws disks, dvd's, etc in itunes or windows media player.

Nov 18, 2011It is occurring on my Dell Studio XP - running Win7 Pro. Intel® Coreâ„¢ i5 CPU 650 @ 3.20GHz.
I'm trying to back up to ext hdd. But however I connect one, I mean to whichever usb port, win explorer fails to pick it up. Although the machine does play a sound so I would have thought it would be recognising it at some level.
The problem is not the hdd. I've tried with two different hdds both of which work with other desktops.

I can see in the device manager that there are (intel) drivers that support USB3.0. The external device (WD mypassport) advertises USB 3.0 support. Is there a way to find out in windows 7 (home premium) if the actual usb connection is really using USB3.0 or if it is falling back into USB2? Is the transmission speed in the USB connection the only hint about what is happening in the USB connection. That is, a higher speed means that USB 3.0 is really being used?

Aug 21, 2012I have a USB external hard drive that I keep all my documents etc on (had it for years)I upgraded from Vista Home to & Home Premium then had to upgrade recently to Professional to run my Sage. Through all these upgrades my ext. drive ran fine. Occasionally the drvie letter would change if I had something else plugged into the USB, this was always easily corected in disk management by changing the drive path.The connection on the case packed up so I had to get the drive put into a new case, now when I plug it in the drive is assigned G instead of F, I tried to change the drive letter allocation in Disk Management but it won't let me as the program still thinks I have a second ext. hard drive which is labelled F. I suspect this has happened because when the usb connection broke the drive was disconnected suddenly instead of a proper eject.How do I get Disk Management to remove the inactive drive - i can't find any obvious way - eject, delete etc are all missing when I click on tools or tasks.

I noticed that if I do anything to a file that is in an external drive, that file can not be saved under the same name (read only). In order to do so one must save it internally and then copy or move it to the external drive.So I did just that--I copied a file from taken from an external drive, saved it in the internal one and then copied it back to the external one. Now if I r-click the propeerties of these 2 same files and then go to the 'Security' tab a difference is immediately apparent: The internal one has -1- System & -2 My-computername (user-PCuser and -3- Administrators (user-PCAdministrators) with all 3 accounts allowing all (full control, read, write, etc..). While the external drive has in Properties; -1- System -2- Administrators (user-PCAdministrators) and -3- Users (user-PCUserrs) with this final 3d one (and different one) with no Allow for "full control, or modify or write. So how does one have all its files in this external drive behave and be equal to all the same files in the internal drive?Since -3- Users (user-PCUserrs) in the external drive is that which is differnt from the internal drive I was wondering if it is OK to delete this Permission or 'attribute' or whatever it is called and create instead one equal to the one in the internal drive -3- Administrators (user-PCAdministrators)? Apr 4, 2011i got a new processor, the o.c software and teh bios filed to set on auto, so i had to do it manually..over and over and over and over again. around 8 am i started to tweak the setting on the o.c software and in my slep deprived state i did something very stupid..i set the o.c software to load the last setting on startup.afterward i hit a setting the crashed the computer, so now i can't boot it, cuase the o.c software is loading those com crashing setting on startup. so i when to use a back up harddrive which was empty, so i am now using teh computer with a fresh hdd. the other hardrive is as it was when i screwed up royal.all ihave to do is load internal harddrive on my external hdd dock, in a virtualized environment which i looked for help threw google, which lead me to virtual box..which was 3 hours of wasted time, then i ran another search which lead me here eventaully, which referred me VMware, so i went to VMware only to find a god awful amount of crap i don't need and getting support from them was a joke, put in a ticket and await..wait..wait..wait, two hours later , i come back here. i had no idea what api from VMware to go and get most of it seems like its meant for servers, and im not running a server.i have a hdd thats good, in a external dock, i can load its internal working threw my computer, but i need it virtaulized in order to uncheck that box in the o.c software so it doesn't load on startup, thats it >.<

Mar 21, 2012Recently my wife caught a virus on her computer (HP touchsmart windows 7 home premium). Your typical virus program that sends hundreds of pop up screens and says click this for full removal, blah blah blah. Anyways I used malwarebytes to see if the program could be removed, malwarebytes found 5 problems and I removed them. Afterward I noticed that there were no icons on the screen, I tried to bring up task manager and the computer rebooted. once the computer rebooted, there was a black screen with "no operating system found".
I tried the "repair your computer" option on the Windows 7 disk, but it was not able to repair the problem automatically, I also tried some manual command scan prompts that I found on the net. None of this has worked so far.
I figured that I would take the hdd out of her computer and dock it to another computer. The hard drive connected fine, but when I tried to open it there was nothing in there. I tried to make sure that all files were not hidden (they weren't). Funny thing is when I click on properties for the drive it shows that the drive is 2/3rds full but I can't see any files or information when I try to search the drive. I also just tried copying the hard drive to another harddrive and it was copying files but once I opened the new location, it was still empty (even thought the folder said in properties 84 gigs).
Is there something that I am missing, I would like to retrieve all of her documents, pictures etc. then I could reformat that drive and re-install windows if I can not get it to boot back up correctly.

But I have a C drive with a lot of empty space, and an external hard drive that I need to back up. So... is there any way to get around the default behavior so I can back up FROM the external drive TO the C drive?
