View 1 Replies View RelatedI have my Win 7 PC set to back up to an external HD and have yet to get a successful backup. The Action Center gives me the message:Windows Backup failed while trying to read from the shadow copy on one of the volumes being backed up.When I look in the event viewer, I find the following error: The backup operation that started at [date] has failed with following error code '2147942405' (General access denied error).I've searched for that error code but haven't found any useful info. I've confirmed that both the Volume Shadow Copy and SPP Notification services are running. I suspect file permissions may be involved. The files I'm backing up are on both the original C: drive and another internal drive I added.

View 3 Replies View Relatedi installed windows 7, and everything seemed to work fine.
installed a bunch of programs, they also all seem to work.
but then i decided to do some backups; i created the rescue cd using windows, and then cloned the hard drive also using windows 7.
but then i noticed the backup program, and decided to click on "set up backup"; nothing happens.
if i try the same from a disk drive/properties (ie click on backup there) nothing happens either.
any ideas? maybe something i installed broke this, but it seems like a pretty basic function to break like this.
when I go to control panel and chose backup I get an error saying the page failed to load.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI just replaced the internal hard drive in my laptop, and now I'm trying to set up Windows Backup to backup to an external hard drive. It always fails, giving an I/O device error. I looked for a fix to this, and everyone says to run chkdsk on both hard drives. I ran it on the internal (running Windows 7), and it was really slow (it ran all day, and I went to bed and the computer had restarted by the time I got up). Running it on the external from within Windows, it gets stuck very early in the process and won't proceed.

Will the built-in backup program in Windows 7 HP work with a network drive?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI was contemplating using a Raid 0 array as my primary C: drive with OS. I understand all the issues with that and do regular daily backups. I used to use Acronis which had no trouble with a raid array. But on this new build I was wondering if the built in backup tools would be able to image and more importantly restore my data to the array. My back up drive is not part of the array. I would guess that it would see it just fine from the OS and have no trouble creating the backup image, I am more concerned that if I had to use the rescue disk and reload the image whether or not the array would be visible to the restore disk.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI created an image using the Microsoft Backup and Restore tool in Windows 7. I saved the image on a network shared folder.I then went to the Advanced Recovery Methods in Windows to restore my image...that I just created. It restarts the computer and goes into recovery mode, I point to where the image is located, I entered the network credentials and it give me an error. View 5 Replies View RelatedAny simple backup program that is capable of backing up large files incrementally by splitting the file and backing up only changed parts of the file? The files I'm talking about are files that get altered by appending stuff at the end of the file, e.g. log files or mailbox files, so it's generally possible to split a new version of the file at the exact point where the old version stopped, purely by file size.
Specifically, I want to back up Thunderbird and SeaMonkey mailboxes without having to create additional subfolders within those programs. I understand that if something had changed near the beginning of the file, then the whole file will have to be backed up, unless the backup program is capable of some very clever searching, but mostly the files will change only by having data appended to it.
Which backup software to backup Pictures/Documents/Videos so that when you do a fresh install you don't loose anything.apart from your programs of course, just the documents backed up what do you use?
View 13 Replies View RelatedI'm running Windows 7 64x Home Premium on a Toshiba Qosmio X505 laptop. I just got it back from the warranty repair center, where they replaced the hard drive and graphics fan & heatsink, and reloaded the factory windows version. Before I sent it out for repair, I used Windows Backup to create a backup of all my files on a Toshiba casio 500GB external USB drive (I had over 300 GB of files, so it was easier to use Windows Backup than drag and drop all the files, at least at the time). Now that I have the laptop back, I'm having trouble restoring my files. When I go to Control Panel-> Backup & Restore, a message appears in the restore section, saying "Windows could not find a backup for this computer." I've tried reconnecting the drive as well as restarting my computer, but to no avail. I can see and explore the files in My Computer, so I know the hard drive is properly connected.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI backup 100GB of data with Windows Backup and over the time where I do all my backups there is like only 30GB of data which changed from those 100GB and also new files were added. Now my external drive is full. When I now delete the very early backup, the first one where the 100GB of data was saved, will it delete then ALL those 100 GB, or will it just delete the previous versions of the files which were modified AFTER that time, which are in this case the 30GB I talked about? Because otherwhise I would then have in the end an uncomplete, messed up backup.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm using Win 7 Pro and want to schedule several backups to my NAS. With Win XP, I was able to schedule multiple backup jobs, which makes things easier since I have 116 GB of data. I like to backup my documents, email files, etc. every week, but my photos, MP3s, etc. don't change as frequently so once a month is fine for that. Not surprisingly, the media collection takes much longer to backup, which is another reason I try to separate it from my "regular" backup.Unfortunately, Win 7 backup only seems to allow one backup job to be scheduled, which seems awfully limited. Am I missing something? Are there other free backup utilities that would work better, or do I need to shell out some cash?

I tried everything I can think of to change the desk top back ground but it just stays the same- Windows 7- picture. So not sure what to do now or if it is a fix from microsoft that has to be done? I did follow all the right instructions to do the change but with no change. The Theme will change when I click on it but not the back ground. Read tutials and treads and made sure I was doing it right and all settings were right but still no good!! It really isn't that big of a deal but if it's suppose to work why not on my brand new computer and operating system?
