View 3 RepliesI have my Win 7 PC set to back up to an external HD and have yet to get a successful backup. The Action Center gives me the message:Windows Backup failed while trying to read from the shadow copy on one of the volumes being backed up.When I look in the event viewer, I find the following error: The backup operation that started at [date] has failed with following error code '2147942405' (General access denied error).I've searched for that error code but haven't found any useful info. I've confirmed that both the Volume Shadow Copy and SPP Notification services are running. I suspect file permissions may be involved. The files I'm backing up are on both the original C: drive and another internal drive I added.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI just replaced the internal hard drive in my laptop, and now I'm trying to set up Windows Backup to backup to an external hard drive. It always fails, giving an I/O device error. I looked for a fix to this, and everyone says to run chkdsk on both hard drives. I ran it on the internal (running Windows 7), and it was really slow (it ran all day, and I went to bed and the computer had restarted by the time I got up). Running it on the external from within Windows, it gets stuck very early in the process and won't proceed.

He is thinking of getting a new router with a USB port so that he can connect the external drive to the router and then setup automated backups to that drive from the new laptop. Will the built-in backup program in Windows 7 HP work with a network drive?

View 12 Replies View RelatedI was contemplating using a Raid 0 array as my primary C: drive with OS. I understand all the issues with that and do regular daily backups. I used to use Acronis which had no trouble with a raid array. But on this new build I was wondering if the built in backup tools would be able to image and more importantly restore my data to the array. My back up drive is not part of the array. I would guess that it would see it just fine from the OS and have no trouble creating the backup image, I am more concerned that if I had to use the rescue disk and reload the image whether or not the array would be visible to the restore disk.

View 3 Replies View Relatedi installed windows 7, and everything seemed to work fine.
installed a bunch of programs, they also all seem to work.
but then i decided to do some backups; i created the rescue cd using windows, and then cloned the hard drive also using windows 7.
but then i noticed the backup program, and decided to click on "set up backup"; nothing happens.
if i try the same from a disk drive/properties (ie click on backup there) nothing happens either.
any ideas? maybe something i installed broke this, but it seems like a pretty basic function to break like this.
when I go to control panel and chose backup I get an error saying the page failed to load.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI work in an architecture office using Quickbooks to track hours, expenses, billing, etc. The company QB files reside on the server in a shared directory that is mapped as drive Z: on all machines through a domain logon script that runs when each person logs on to their machine. The company file runs in multi-user mode so that everyone can access the file and enter their hours at the same time. The problem is that if anyone happens to leave Quickbooks open at night, the server backup process (running BackupExec) will skip the files that are in use, usually either 2 or 3 files. This is potentially bad news because if anything happened to the server the following day after those files were skipped, we would not have the file from the night before to restore, which could potentially mean lots of information lost (sometimes lots of info is entered in one day, especially on "billing" days).Sometimes people will leave in the afternoon for a meeting, thinking they'll be back later and leave their programs open. But then the meeting ends up running long and they don't come back until the next day. That's usually why Quickbooks ends up getting left open on a machine overnight. What I'm wondering is if there's a way to make the program automatically close, if it's open on any machine, perhaps just before the backup process starts on the server. Or, make the program close if the computer has been idle a certain amount of time.Is there any way to make this happen? All machines in our office that have Quickbooks on it run Windows 7, except for one machine that still runs XP.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI recently purchased a new Toshiba 1tb HDD. My old WD 1tb HDD has been giving me trouble of late. I occasionally get the BSOD. Also, on occasion, when I reboot the computer it automatically runs the chkdsk program and reports several bad clusters. However the chkdsk program never seems to flag the bad clusters, so periodically, when I reboot, it runs and reports them again.
I would like to image or backup all of the files on my problem HDD, then do a fresh install of Win 7 Ultimate 64bit (my current OS) to the new HDD, then restore the cloned or image system and program files to the new HDD. I don't want to have to go through the process of reinstalling everything again, when everything seems to be working okay. Since the Win 7 image program makes and exact image of the HDD, then to use that program would cause the new install of Win 7 Ultimate 64bit to be overwritten by the image restore. Therefore, if there should be corrupt data under a bad cluster from the old HDD, that data would not be transferred and my existing problem would be transferred to the new HDD.
On the other hand, if I do a disk clone, I am not sure that the existing programs would continue to operate on the new HDD, and would require a fresh install of each program after the fresh install of the Win 7 OS! I would have then wasted my time doing a transfer of program/data files to my newly formatted and freshly installed OS.
Does anyone know of any program (Acronis True Image, Paragon, Norton Ghost, Macrium Reflect, etc.) that will let you image or clone the program and data (incuding the necessary operational files such as: Win32 system files, activation files, etc.) so that they will work correctly on the fresh install of the OS?

View 3 Replies View RelatedIn the 20 years I have used Backup programs like Acronis True Image which don't give free support. I have never seen a company give free support with their backup programs. Support is worth half of the product. So is there or does anyone know of a backup and restore program that gives free support like a printer, scanner, router, hard drives which gives you years of support and no change?

Only choose the folder of c:program fileswindows photo viewer
Do not choose [Include a system image]
d. Backup summary
Items are c:program fileswindows photo viewer
