I purchased a laptop last week with Windows 7 home premium. Currently have desktop wire to router with Windows 7 home premium as well. Everything hunky dorry in regards to internet connection. 2 days later, I've lost internet connection to both computers. Both say I'm connected to my network. I have other mobile devices that can connect to the router, so I don't think that's the issue. I read about disabling Home Group, which I did and that didn't help. I've got to think that there is a setting I just need to tweek, but have yet to come across something that works. The laptop does connect at my work to the WiFi so the network card is working properly. Both computers will connect to the internet if I bypass the router and connect ethernet cable directly from modem to computer.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've got a desktop and a laptop both with Windows 7 on the same LAN and both have their network setting to Home. From my desktop, I am able to add a network location in My Computer to connect to my laptop. However, on my laptop I am unable to connect to my desktop. The desktop shows up in the list of network locations on my laptop but it always times out trying to connect to it and just says there was a problem with the connection. know the problem is not with my laptop because I am able to connect to my other PC as a network location. I really need to be able to connect to my main desktop though.

I'd rather use my desktop monitor and keyboard but need to access the files/applications from my laptop. I don't want to have to unplug the monitor/keyboard each time I'm home to work.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm unable to connect to a samba share on a FreeBSD (via FreeNAS) box when using the machine name.
The message it gives me is "The account is not authorized to log in from this station".
The share is in anonymous mode; there's on restrictions.
If I try to connect to the same share via it's IP, things work.
Connecting via name worked previously on this same machine from XP and after I first installed Windows 7.
I can also connect to it via a Popcorn Hour machine.
Any ideas?
just last night after i was finished playing skyrim for the night, i saw on steam that i had no connection. so i looked towards the internet bars icon next to the clock and saw a yello triangle with a "!" in it. so i disconnected and reconnected but still the yellow "!". so i just decided i would try again tomorrow (today).when i woke up today it didn't have that error, so i decided to go to Internet on chrome, but it had that "webpage not available" (wouldn't work for ie either). i figured it would soon fix itself like it always had, so i tried playing mw3 on my xbox, but it wouldn't connect to live either o.o and when my mom wanted to watch netflix on the living room xbox, she couldn't connect either! then i figured out it was definatly my modem that was refusing to connect to anything.
View 9 Replies View RelatedMy issue is that I have a usb device that when connected to my Windows 7 machine works just fine, however, when I connect it to a usb hub it does not. When connected to the hub, the device is detected by windows and goes from unknow device to the actual device name and the light on the device lights which it doesnt do if not installed properly.Has anyone else seen anything like this? Its not that the hub isnt working or that the device cannot be installed. Programs that interact with the device simply cannot when the device is hooked up to a hub.

In Google Chrome I get this:Error 137 (net::ERR_NAME_RESOLUTION_FAILED): Unknown errorAll my other Internet-reliant programs (Steam, XFire, SKype, etc.) work fine, with the exception of MBAM (can't connect in order to update definitions).I've ran TDSS Killer (found nothing), MBAM (found a few things, removed all), and Microsoft Security Scanner (found a few things, removed all).
View 11 Replies View RelatedMy desktop (windows 7 ultimate 64bit) has been able to connect fine to the internet until I got home from work this morning. My laptop is connecting to the same modem fine through wireless (along with my wii). The modem I am using is Motorola SB 901. When I rightclick my connection on my desktop and hit troubleshoot problems, I get 'local area connection 2 doesn't have a valid ip configuration'. Same thing happens when I switch the ethernet cord to local area connection 1. When I go to control panel, network and internet, network and sharing, the connection map at the top stops between my pc and the network (which is now labeled as 'unidentified network'). Here is a list of what I have done so far to try and resolve the issue:
1. Replaced the ethernet cord with one I know is working
2. Full scanned my pc for viruses
3. Disabled all firewalls and virus protection programs
4. Restored my pc to a previous save state
5. Reset winsock with cmd via these prompts: netsh winsock reset catalog and netsh int ip reset reset.log hit
6. This attempt is unfinished as I am getting stuck. I am attempting to setup a static ip to attempt to resolve the issue, but when I open cmd and type ipconfig/all, the default gateway under my local area connection is completely blank. Here is what comes up with ipconfig/all:
C:UsersPaul>ipconfig/all

I'm trying to connect to a network computer hooked up to a shared printer so that I can install the printer. However, when I try to connect to the target machine using either its computer name or its static IP address, I get an error: "Windows cannot access (target path) - Check the spelling of the name. Otherwise, there might be a problem with your network. To try to identify and resolve network problems, click Diagnose. Error code: 0x80004005 Unspecified error".
Network diagnostics revealed two problems: DETECTED - The remote device or resource won't accept the connection DETECTED - SBLSP over [MSAFD Tcpip [TCP/IPv6]] is not configured properly on this computer
My wireless adapter status reveals that IPv6 has No Internet access. IPv4 is connected to both the network and the Internet. Every service provided through my onboard wireless adapter is enabled.
Modem = sb5100
Wireless Router = Dlink 601
I think the issue is the network name for some reason is NETWORK 3 on my desktop but on my laptop it's something else, my laptop can create a homegroup but my desktop cannot. It's weird, my desktop cannot create not join my laptop homegroup but my laptop can create it just can't join my desktop so it's a desktop issue and I think it's the multiple network names after you set up a network and it asked you if this is public or home I created like 3 of them since my wifi routers kept on going bad.
So I opened up my tower to do some dusting and I accidentally dropped the tower door and the wires that power the tower door fan was ripped off. There was a red and black wire that has these weird looking prongs on them. I first did not know where they went... So I just looked at the 4 pin whole plugs and started to stick these two in these plugs to test... First few times I did this; the pc restarted and there was a spark....(could this be y my background no longer works?) Then I found two holes out of the four pinned plugs that powered my fan.. Hurray I thought cause the fan was powered, the blue light was on and I was happy for that moment. Then I realized my background was just a blank color.. So I right clicked/personalize/desktop background/ set up the photos I saved/hit save changes. and nothing. no background.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI hired a networking person to enable remote desktop connection between 2 computers for me. The computer I am trying to connect to uses a switch to run internet between 2 computers but I only connect to one of those computers. No-ip is set up on the computer I am trying to connect to to standardize the ip addresses and I am connecting using port 3389. What happens when I try and connect is as follows. If I have not connected for many hours (maybe 5 or more) remote desktop connection will not connect. In order for it to work I have to go to my logmein account and log into the computer there first then after logging out of the logmein connection and waiting a couple minutes I can log in using the remote connection fine. Then, for the rest of the day I can use the remote connection with no problems.
In the morning when I try again, it won't connect, I have to go to logmein once again and then it works. I thought maybe it had to do with a power setting so I created my own power profile and set everything to never sleep, hibernate or do anything except run and run at maximum performance...But that didn't affect it, I still can't log in using remote desktop connection after a long wait. I have also looked in the logs for both my Virus software (AVG) and the computer to see if anything sticks out but AVG firewall log stopped logging in November and I can't seem to reset it and the local cpu event logs don't show any issues with remote desktop connection.

View 3 Replies View RelatedAs title says, my wifi works fine on my laptop but won't work on my computer. This hasn't been an issue previously but I moved house and now can't get on. I've tried two different dongles, changing the channel my router goes on and a new router. The computer connects and says it has internet access but then whenever I try and load a webpage it just keeps loading and never actually brings up the page. Also tried a few ipconfig (flushdns, release and renew) through cmd as I was instructed to by a friend - but now can't think of anything else. Also, it has three out of 5 bars of strength but sometimes when I switch the computer on it doesn't even detect the network at all.

When I check device management to see whether it is an assignment issue, it is not in the list and regardless of the slot it is placed in, I receive the same message.
However, when I plug it into my tower (Custom built) I do not receive this message and it loads instantaneously. For the record, both are running Windows 7 Ultimate, wih he laptop in 32-Bit and my Tower in 64-Bit.
I am having an issue that has been an on and off problem for the past month. I currently am using a browser called torch which is a chrome style browser. But my main browser is firefox. Whenever firefox is open I cannot browse the web and when I try web pages do not load on any browser that I try to use, although I am able to use both ipads that are in the house and any applications/programs works fine with the internet. But ones I close firefox all other web browsers on my laptop work fine.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a HP dv6000 with a 4 GB RAM and Intel Core2 Duo @ 1.50 GHz processor. I have Windows 7 Ultimate, 32 bit operating system.
Sometimes the laptop gets stuck and then none of the keys or the mouse works. Yesterday I was watching a movie and the same thing happened but the movie didn't stop.
Today morning the laptop wasn't booting and then later I took out the battery and reinserted it and it worked. Are these two problems somehow related?
Ok, i've searched for the solution the whole night yesterday but couldn't find it. For some reason My laptop speakers won't output any audio when running windows 7. However when I plug something in like a headphone it works just fine!
