View 2 Replies View RelatedI am having an issue that has been an on and off problem for the past month. I currently am using a browser called torch which is a chrome style browser. But my main browser is firefox. Whenever firefox is open I cannot browse the web and when I try web pages do not load on any browser that I try to use, although I am able to use both ipads that are in the house and any applications/programs works fine with the internet. But ones I close firefox all other web browsers on my laptop work fine.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI purchased a laptop last week with Windows 7 home premium. Currently have desktop wire to router with Windows 7 home premium as well. Everything hunky dorry in regards to internet connection. 2 days later, I've lost internet connection to both computers. Both say I'm connected to my network. I have other mobile devices that can connect to the router, so I don't think that's the issue. I read about disabling Home Group, which I did and that didn't help. I've got to think that there is a setting I just need to tweek, but have yet to come across something that works. The laptop does connect at my work to the WiFi so the network card is working properly. Both computers will connect to the internet if I bypass the router and connect ethernet cable directly from modem to computer.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm using Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit.
Lately when I try connecting with any browser it says I can't like the internet is unplugged. But I can download and install Windows 7 updates. I was maybe thinking it was a virus so I installed Malwarebytes and Superantispyware. Malwarebytes wouldn't update but SAS would. It had AVG anti-virus 2011 and I uninstalled it with the Windows built in uninstaller. Then I tried using "avg remover 64 bit" and I got the message "the version of this file is not compatible with the version of windows you are running" which is strange because I have the 64 bit version of Windows. I got suspicious and tried running TDSSKiller.exe, rkill.com and some other AV programs but got the same "the version...". I read in a couple of searches that it's probably a virus and since I can't run any AV stand alone program, I suspect it is. When I ran Malwarebytes and SAS, it showed no virus's which I don't believe. Also everything in the Network and Sharing Center is totally normal showing that all is working fine. So if I can't run any of my anti-trojan, etc. programs, I can't see what it might be. This does the same in Safe Mode.
Modem = sb5100
Wireless Router = Dlink 601
I think the issue is the network name for some reason is NETWORK 3 on my desktop but on my laptop it's something else, my laptop can create a homegroup but my desktop cannot. It's weird, my desktop cannot create not join my laptop homegroup but my laptop can create it just can't join my desktop so it's a desktop issue and I think it's the multiple network names after you set up a network and it asked you if this is public or home I created like 3 of them since my wifi routers kept on going bad.
So I opened up my tower to do some dusting and I accidentally dropped the tower door and the wires that power the tower door fan was ripped off. There was a red and black wire that has these weird looking prongs on them. I first did not know where they went... So I just looked at the 4 pin whole plugs and started to stick these two in these plugs to test... First few times I did this; the pc restarted and there was a spark....(could this be y my background no longer works?) Then I found two holes out of the four pinned plugs that powered my fan.. Hurray I thought cause the fan was powered, the blue light was on and I was happy for that moment. Then I realized my background was just a blank color.. So I right clicked/personalize/desktop background/ set up the photos I saved/hit save changes. and nothing. no background.

Firefox and Chrome display error page like I wasn't connected to internet. It seems not related with browser's proxy setting. View 6 Replies View RelatedLet me start by saying that I have a background in computer programming and so I understand most jargon, however I don't have much experience with computer hardware problems and networking, so I may not have tried some very simple things. I believe I've tried everything and I have thus far found no solution to ym problem nor have I even identified what the problem is.So, yesterday morning I was browsing the web as usual, when a power cut happened, obviously stopping me from browsing. When the power came back on, I tried to use my PC again. My network adapter was able to connect to my router once it came back on and very simple programs on my computer were working (for example, little Windows 7 gadgets on my desktop, such as news feeds and even my anti-virus updater) but when I tried to log on to Windows Live Messenger or any of my web browsers (I've tried IE, Firefox and Chrome), nothing works and I can't connect to the internet.
Each browser has the same problem. I can connect to my default homepage (google) each time, but it takes longer than usual, but then it doesn't let me connect to another website. This problem appears to be localized, although I'm having the same problem on both my laptop and my desktop PC, whereas my brother's desktop (which I'm writing from now) and our family's laptop both work fine and are free from this issue. In order to fix it, I have tried resetting my computers, my network adapter AND my router several times, but there is no change. I have tried a full system restore to a restore point 7 days prior to the problem occurring, but no change. I have tried troubleshooting the connection but nothing happens. I have also run a full virus scan with AVG Free and a spyware scan with Windows Defender, both came up clean.
I'm dual booting Ubuntu and Windows 7 and I've got a wierd problem. Internet, both wireless and wired, works normally on Ubuntu but doesn't on Windows. I've installed wlan drivers but Windows somehow doesn't recognize any networks.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI hired a networking person to enable remote desktop connection between 2 computers for me. The computer I am trying to connect to uses a switch to run internet between 2 computers but I only connect to one of those computers. No-ip is set up on the computer I am trying to connect to to standardize the ip addresses and I am connecting using port 3389. What happens when I try and connect is as follows. If I have not connected for many hours (maybe 5 or more) remote desktop connection will not connect. In order for it to work I have to go to my logmein account and log into the computer there first then after logging out of the logmein connection and waiting a couple minutes I can log in using the remote connection fine. Then, for the rest of the day I can use the remote connection with no problems.
In the morning when I try again, it won't connect, I have to go to logmein once again and then it works. I thought maybe it had to do with a power setting so I created my own power profile and set everything to never sleep, hibernate or do anything except run and run at maximum performance...But that didn't affect it, I still can't log in using remote desktop connection after a long wait. I have also looked in the logs for both my Virus software (AVG) and the computer to see if anything sticks out but AVG firewall log stopped logging in November and I can't seem to reset it and the local cpu event logs don't show any issues with remote desktop connection.
my buddy has a laptop issue when its a wired internet connection. when its wireless, it has no problems with the internet, everything works fine. but when its wired, webpages will still load, but Internet videos wont work, anything that consists of streaming doesn't work, and he cant even use logmein. i have connected other laptops to the same cord and there is no problems. so i know its not the cord and i imagine its not the router since everything still works fine with other computers.
View 3 Replies View RelatedDefault Gateway is not Available. The internet on my laptop only works intermittently. After a minute or so of initial use, it stops working and when I run the troubleshooter it discovers that the default gateway is not available and then it says that it has fixed the problem. However, after only a minute or so more, the internet once again fails. I have tried the "run>cmd>enter>ipcongfig>enter" and found that the numbers for the default gateway are the same on my laptop as for a laptop that does work.

View 11 Replies View RelatedI've googled this and found heaps of people having the same issue, but nothing that actually resolves it. I'm using a laptop with internal wifi but I also have an external wifi dongle as I connect to my neighbours internet (I have permission and the passwords, etc). Both the internal and external used to work fine and both would have internet connection. But something recently has changed and now the internal wifi still works with both network and internet connection, but the external one only has network connection and no internet connection. The reason I use the external one is it gives much better signal strength than the internal one and, as said, both used to work just fine. Now I've tried uninstalling the external drivers and dongle and reinstalling it but no dice. I've tried doing the netsh stuff people have recommended in some of the search pages but no dice. Tried release and renew of IP, but no dice. I've disabled all firewalls but no dice (and I figure the firewalls would stop both connections anyway but I thought I'd try it

The error code is 137 and I am using chrome. Only internet explorer x64 works! I don't want to use internet explorer. This error could be a virus posing as my proxy then routing my internet traffic back to itself, therefore making it seem like I have internet wvwn though I cant get online. I need to get online on google chrome. I already tried normal internet explorer, safari, firefox, and opera and on the taskbar it says I have wifi but clearly no.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI formatted both my laptop and desktop computer. When i did with my laptop, everything was great. Wireless still worked. Of course i have my linksys router connected to get the wireless.
I then formatted my desktop. Its a dell. When i did this, everything seemed great. However, i noticed that if i remove my wireless router and just connect my cable modem wired, it works. However, when i connect my wireless router, then my wireless internet works but my WIRED connection does not work. It has this message that says can't connect.
I don't think this has ever happened before. I mean, there were many times where my desktop got formatted and my wired internet worked and i could not get my wireless connection to work. But never had i had my wireless work and my wired connection not work. The one thing i did this time was after i installed the drivers with my windows cd, i then deleted the old windows file that was about 25 gb.
I bought new laptop ASUS K55V, and had an idea to plug in an internet, because my old laptop is really "old", and I found a problem - internet runs really slow in normal mode:
but fine in safe:
I think its a quite big difference I searched all over internet, tried multiple cmd commands, winsock fixes, and son on, Its a new laptop, all I have already installed are Firefox and Photoshop.

My desktop (windows 7 ultimate 64bit) has been able to connect fine to the internet until I got home from work this morning. My laptop is connecting to the same modem fine through wireless (along with my wii). The modem I am using is Motorola SB 901. When I rightclick my connection on my desktop and hit troubleshoot problems, I get 'local area connection 2 doesn't have a valid ip configuration'. Same thing happens when I switch the ethernet cord to local area connection 1. When I go to control panel, network and internet, network and sharing, the connection map at the top stops between my pc and the network (which is now labeled as 'unidentified network'). Here is a list of what I have done so far to try and resolve the issue:
1. Replaced the ethernet cord with one I know is working
2. Full scanned my pc for viruses
3. Disabled all firewalls and virus protection programs
4. Restored my pc to a previous save state
5. Reset winsock with cmd via these prompts: netsh winsock reset catalog and netsh int ip reset reset.log hit
6. This attempt is unfinished as I am getting stuck. I am attempting to setup a static ip to attempt to resolve the issue, but when I open cmd and type ipconfig/all, the default gateway under my local area connection is completely blank. Here is what comes up with ipconfig/all:

I've tried two different dongles, changing the channel my router goes on and a new router. The computer connects and says it has internet access but then whenever I try and load a webpage it just keeps loading and never actually brings up the page. Also tried a few ipconfig (flushdns, release and renew) through cmd as I was instructed to by a friend - but now can't think of anything else. Also, it has three out of 5 bars of strength but sometimes when I switch the computer on it doesn't even detect the network at all.

Sometimes the laptop gets stuck and then none of the keys or the mouse works. Yesterday I was watching a movie and the same thing happened but the movie didn't stop.
Today morning the laptop wasn't booting and then later I took out the battery and reinserted it and it worked. Are these two problems somehow related?
