Wireless Works - Wired Internet Connection Does Not

Jan 15, 2012

my buddy has a laptop issue when its a wired internet connection. when its wireless, it has no problems with the internet, everything works fine. but when its wired, webpages will still load, but Internet videos wont work, anything that consists of streaming doesn't work, and he cant even use logmein. i have connected other laptops to the same cord and there is no problems. so i know its not the cord and i imagine its not the router since everything still works fine with other computers.

Wireless Internet Works, Wired Connection Doesn't Work

Dec 3, 2011

I formatted both my laptop and desktop computer. When i did with my laptop, everything was great. Wireless still worked. Of course i have my linksys router connected to get the wireless.

I then formatted my desktop. Its a dell. When i did this, everything seemed great. However, i noticed that if i remove my wireless router and just connect my cable modem wired, it works. However, when i connect my wireless router, then my wireless internet works but my WIRED connection does not work. It has this message that says can't connect.

I don't think this has ever happened before. I mean, there were many times where my desktop got formatted and my wired internet worked and i could not get my wireless connection to work. But never had i had my wireless work and my wired connection not work. The one thing i did this time was after i installed the drivers with my windows cd, i then deleted the old windows file that was about 25 gb.

Internet Access Randomly Drops On Wired & Wireless Connection?

Jul 18, 2012

I've got an older Acer Timeline 4810t running Windows 7. We recently switched from Cox Cable internet to AT&T U-Verse, and I've started noticing that my internet connection will randomly go out when I am connected. This occurs whether I am on a wired or wireless connection. Specifically, I will be browsing the web and, randomly, when I try to pull up a website, I get an error indicating that I cannot connect to that website because I am not connected to the internet. When I check the status of my connection in the bottom right corner, it will show that I am connected to the internet. If I disconnect the ethernet cable (or disconnect and reconnect to the wifi network), the internet service is restored, although it continues to randomly lose connection.

I initially thought that it was a U-Verse issue, so AT&T came out and replaced the router. Unfortunately, I still got the random drops. I then thought it was a Windows issue, so I reformatted by hard drive and reinstalled Windows - still having that issue. My wife has an older Macbook and does not have this problem. We also do not have this problem with any of the tablets or phones that connect to the network wirelessly.I am beyond frustrated and do not know what to do. I also don't know if this is a sign that my laptop is at the end of its life, which would be unfortunate since I've only owned the laptop for about 3 years (my last laptop, a Dell, is on year 7 and still churning).

Cannot Get Wireless Or Wired Router Connection To Work

Jun 19, 2012

I have been trying to set up a router at my girlfriend's apartment. I first tried a Linksys router that I had brought from home. I hooked it up from the wall port, to the router, to my computer. I was able to access the normal Linksys wireless setup page at 192.168.0.1 and set up a network fine. I then unplugged my ethernet cable and attempted to connect to the network and was not able to. If I recall, it 'connected' but there was no internet connection.

May 22, 2011

i'm having trouble getting onto the internet with my wired settings on my desktop. I usually have it connected through wireless (I have a pci-e wireless card), but when i try with my ethernet cable, it doesnt connect. I have two OS's installed on this computer windows 7 and vista. I have tried to on both windows to get on the net, but to no avail. I have tried the diagnose and repair, but it doesnt fix anything. It does however, says "Windows cannot connect to the primary DNS Server" or something like that.

Wired Internet Connection Keeps Dropping Out

Jul 1, 2012

I am currently at a hotel and am using their wired internet connection. Everything has been working fine until this weekend when I find that the connection keeps dropping out...specifically:

1) Unable to connect when I plug the network cable into computer on startup...have to plug and remove a couple of times till it connects.

2) Connection drops out every 5-10 minutes or so....have to either unplug and replug cable or enable/disable my network adapter on my laptop a couple of times for it to start up again.

3) The connection problem affects random programs but always internet explorer. I can be on yahoo messenger and msn messenger and even an online game and they won't be affected when the connection drops and internet explorer goes out. However, if I log off any of these programs, then I will have a problem getting back on until I repeat the connection methods listed above. Additionally, some IE pages will continue to function for a while if I click the links in them...just cannot access any new pages...

4) sometimes the connection will drop out but it will show that I am still connected in my taskbar at the bottom of my screen.

Everything else on the computer seems to be working fine, wireless also seems to be working too.

Wired Internet Connection Working With XP, But Not Windows 7?

Oct 4, 2012

My Dell Dimension C521 died on me maybe 6 months ago. It has Windows XP on it.

I put it to the side and bought a HP Pavilion G7 laptop to replace it with, which came with Windows 7 Home Premium. From what I remember I just plugged my ethernet cable into it at the time, and I was able to use my Virgin Media connection straight away, didn't have any problems.

So last week I finally repaired the old Dell and I've been using it for about a week now, while the new laptop sat unused in the other room. Now, today when I try to use the laptop again to connect to the internet, it doesn't want to play ball; troubleshooting the connection comes up with 'The default gateway is not available'.

I didn't change anything or do anything, I just didn't use it for a week and now it won't connect to the internet. The only difference I can see is one machine is XP and one is Windows 7...

I used the Windows 7 recovery disc to reinstall the OS hoping that would fix it (after a few system restores failed to address it), but no luck. When I ping my default gateway as it's shown in ipconfig, it comes back 'Request timed out' 3 times, then 'Destination host unreachable'.

"Tunnel adaptor 6T04 Adaptor: cable.virginmedia.net" doesn't have a Default Gateway listed, is this somehow relevant?

Regular Drops In Wired Internet Connection?

Feb 4, 2013

i'm having an issue where my internet connection will seemingly drop for a split second, and then reconnect.for example, i will be signed into irc and will have a momentary drop in connection which boots me out, and then i will instantly reconnect.another example would be when watching a streamed video (Internet). i will be watching a video and then the buffering would stop, until i manually navigated to a couple of seconds later, and then buffering would continue.a final example would be in skype, where people are constantly getting connect/disconnect notifications from me.i've had a go at pinging google (-t) to see if it sheds any light on the frequency of disconnection. it has an average ping of about 35 ms, and will occasionally spike to roughly 130-150 every 7 lines or so. but other than that it has no difficulty pinging at all.

Windows 7 Keeps Disconnecting Hard Wired Internet Connection?

Jan 31, 2011

I have all of my computers (4 of them) hard wired into the router. Then the other day my step-daughter needed to print something out from her computer that had a program on it that mine did not have and my computer is the only one with a printer (the kids 10 and she'll print out anything). So I created a home network so I could enable printer sharing and then the problems started. Now the internet on my machine and my machine only keeps losing my internet connection only when I wake up this machine from sleep mode (I guess it is going into to sleep mode) It is fine when I first turn it on in the morning (because of this problem I can longer just keep it on all the time - I have to shut it down at night). Anyway, if I walk away from my machine for a period of time, when I come back and wake it up it loses the internet connection and then everything is slow. So I have to shut it down and then when I restart it - everything is fine!

Disable Internet On Wired Connection But Still See Network Computers

Jun 16, 2010

The wireless is one I share with my roommates and is fast. The wired NIC connects to a router which has slower internet. The reason I connect to the wired router is so my PC can talk to a linux machine, which I use for some data downloading/analysis.I want to disable internet from the wired connection but keep the ability to talk to other machines on the wired network. I just changed the IPv4 settings and deleted the DNS server information. Is this the best way to do so? I want the wireless to provide internet.

Acer Aspire One Netbook Will Not Hookup To Wireless Or Wired Internet?

Aug 3, 2012

I just bought a used Acer Aspire One 10.1 netbook and I am having some issues. When I got it the pc needed 17 windows updates done. So I did that but I am not sure all the updates worked properly as the machine shut down but never rebooted after finishing updates. After I turned it back on I tried to connect to the internet through my wireless router (which is working fine for other devices), nothing. So I tried a wired connection, nothing again. The wireless is finding my router it is just not hooking up to the internet. I tried ipconfig/all in the cmd prompt and all it shows is that the media is disconnected??? Does anyone have any ideas as to what is going on? The compute seems to be functioning fine except for the internet

Internet Connection Works But Web Applications Are Not?

Sep 11, 2012

Let me start by saying that I have a background in computer programming and so I understand most jargon, however I don't have much experience with computer hardware problems and networking, so I may not have tried some very simple things. I believe I've tried everything and I have thus far found no solution to ym problem nor have I even identified what the problem is.So, yesterday morning I was browsing the web as usual, when a power cut happened, obviously stopping me from browsing. When the power came back on, I tried to use my PC again. My network adapter was able to connect to my router once it came back on and very simple programs on my computer were working (for example, little Windows 7 gadgets on my desktop, such as news feeds and even my anti-virus updater) but when I tried to log on to Windows Live Messenger or any of my web browsers (I've tried IE, Firefox and Chrome), nothing works and I can't connect to the internet.

Each browser has the same problem. I can connect to my default homepage (google) each time, but it takes longer than usual, but then it doesn't let me connect to another website. This problem appears to be localized, although I'm having the same problem on both my laptop and my desktop PC, whereas my brother's desktop (which I'm writing from now) and our family's laptop both work fine and are free from this issue. In order to fix it, I have tried resetting my computers, my network adapter AND my router several times, but there is no change. I have tried a full system restore to a restore point 7 days prior to the problem occurring, but no change. I have tried troubleshooting the connection but nothing happens. I have also run a full virus scan with AVG Free and a spyware scan with Windows Defender, both came up clean.

Unable To Connect To Modem/internet Via Lan But Wireless Works Fine

Dec 4, 2012

My desktop (windows 7 ultimate 64bit) has been able to connect fine to the internet until I got home from work this morning. My laptop is connecting to the same modem fine through wireless (along with my wii). The modem I am using is Motorola SB 901. When I rightclick my connection on my desktop and hit troubleshoot problems, I get 'local area connection 2 doesn't have a valid ip configuration'. Same thing happens when I switch the ethernet cord to local area connection 1. When I go to control panel, network and internet, network and sharing, the connection map at the top stops between my pc and the network (which is now labeled as 'unidentified network'). Here is a list of what I have done so far to try and resolve the issue:

1. Replaced the ethernet cord with one I know is working

2. Full scanned my pc for viruses

3. Disabled all firewalls and virus protection programs

4. Restored my pc to a previous save state

5. Reset winsock with cmd via these prompts: netsh winsock reset catalog and netsh int ip reset reset.log hit

6. This attempt is unfinished as I am getting stuck. I am attempting to setup a static ip to attempt to resolve the issue, but when I open cmd and type ipconfig/all, the default gateway under my local area connection is completely blank. Here is what comes up with ipconfig/all:

C:UsersPaul>ipconfig/all
Windows IP Configuration
Host Name . . . . . . . . . . . . : Paul-PC
Primary Dns Suffix . . . . . . . :
Node Type . . . . . . . . . . . . : Hybrid

Setting Up Wireless Internet Connection?

Apr 30, 2012

I recently purchased a new HP PC w/ Windows 7 Home Premium [64-bit] OS.When I ordered this computer from HP, it was supposed to come with a wireless internet card. However, the manufacturer made a mistake and did not install any card. I called and complained, now HP has sent me the following product:Linksys WMP600N Dual-Band Wireless-N PCI Adapter now onto setting up the connection....I did install a NETGEAR wireless card on the back of my old PC, about 6 years ago, so I think I should be able to install this card, however I did read some people have problems with the drivers on this card. Also, at my old apartment where I had wireless internet the first time, the landlord and maintenance people managed everything for providing the signal, so I don't really know anything about setting up router, signal, connection, etc.

Right now the primary internet connection in this house comes through the cable+phone company. There is an RCA Thompson Digital/Broadband modem or router or something, model #DHG535-2, and from there the connection plugs through ethernet cable into the Apple Mac that I'm using to type this right now.My new PC is in another room, and I will install that Linksys wireless card and use that PC most of the time. What I would like help with is:

1. What steps must I take to install the new PC

2. Do I need to get a wireless router, and if so, which ones will work best with the wireless card I received

etc. etc.I think I found my old NETGEAR wireless router, model number MR814v2(??), but I bought this 6 years ago and don't know whether it will work well or at all with the new dual-band card.

Wireless Internet Connection Lost After A Few Seconds?

Jan 25, 2012

The laptop can see the wireless networks (there are two wireless networks since it's a 2.4GHz/5GHz dual band router) and even connect to any of the two networks. It also gets an IP address from the DHCP server and the Internet connection starts working for a very short period (5-10 seconds). Then the connection is lost and though it occasionally returns, the computer is unable to access Internet most of the time. Apparently, it doesn't even get to the gateway. If I ping to the router's IP address there's no response, except for during the first few seconds after establishing the connection:[CODE]This behavior is absolutely consistent and can be observed each time one connects to the Linksys router from this laptop. Nothing I have tr includes: rebooting the laptop, rebooting the router, disabling one of the two wireless networks on the router, trying out various encryption settings (open, wep, wpa2), changing channels, disabling/enabling b/g/n modes, disabling firewall on the laptop, disabling ESET antivirus, reinstalling the wireless adapter driver, ... I could go on. I've been struggling with this for three nights and I'm getting desperate.

There are three other laptops (one Mac, two Windows PCs) connecting to the router without any problems. Strangely enough, the laptop only has this problem with the new Linksys router. It can connect to Internet via our old Airport Express wifi router without any problems. It can also connect to Internet via the Linksys router with an ethernet cable. One thing I have discovered is that rebooting the laptop in a safe mode with network enabled FIXES THE PROBLEM! However, when I boot back to the normal mode (even when disabling all startup items and all services, except for those needed for networking), the problem is back.

Bad Internet Access Via Wireless Connection Windows 7 64?

Feb 4, 2012

I have a problem with internet access when connecting wirelessly on ONE Win 7 64 laptop on ONE router. The same laptop connects to internet just fine to ALL other routers, while ALL other computers (with different OS) connect to internet just fine via this router. The laptop in question connects well to the router itself and you can red everywhere that it is connected to internet as well. But when i try to load any pages in any browsers i get "server not found" in FireFox or "This webpage is not available" in Chrome. Email and torrent clients don't work either. This does not seem to be a DNS issue because accessing sites via IP address does not work. Pinging any sites or IP addresses does not work. The strangest thing is that the situation have been worsening slowly over last 2 weeks - at first everything was just fine, then i would have to reload pages every now and then, last days i would succeed less and less frequently and as of yesterday - no luck at all.

Internet Connection Limited After Installing New Wireless Adapter?

Jan 19, 2012

I installed a new wireless adapter yesterday in the hope of increasing my internet speed. After installing the driver for the adapter I realised that my internet was no longer working. I can still see the connection but it is limited and doesnt allow me to connect to the internet. I also had a system up date the night before and hadn't been on the internet since that happened so am unsure if this has any part in it.I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers for both the adapters i have to no avail, as well as plugging my pc into a laptop and using internet connection sharing which also doesnt work.If i run a network repair i end up with two problems found:

1)There might be a problem with the driver for the local area connection adapter

2)There might be a problem with the driver for the wireless network connection adapter They both have yellow signs with exclamation marks next to them.If i type ipconfig/all into the cmd line I get:
