I'm dual booting Ubuntu and Windows 7 and I've got a wierd problem. Internet, both wireless and wired, works normally on Ubuntu but doesn't on Windows. I've installed wlan drivers but Windows somehow doesn't recognize any networks.
View 4 RepliesWhen using the installed windows 7 my laptop keeps crashing no matter what web browser I'm using, what antivirus I use etc. The 'not responding' thing always bugging me plus occasional BSoD and regular freezes. I tried clean installing using windows CD but that didn't solve my issue.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Lenovo Thinkcentre M55 8813-a21 (LKRYA75). The sound works just fine in any Ubuntu installation i do, but I cannot get sound in either XP or Windows 7. I also couldn't get the networking drivers to work in XP so I am now on Windows 7. I have tried the driver download page on the Lenovo website, but none of them work. I don't know where to go from here.

I think its a quite big difference I searched all over internet, tried multiple cmd commands, winsock fixes, and son on, Its a new laptop, all I have already installed are Firefox and Photoshop.

Lately when I try connecting with any browser it says I can't like the internet is unplugged. But I can download and install Windows 7 updates. I was maybe thinking it was a virus so I installed Malwarebytes and Superantispyware. Malwarebytes wouldn't update but SAS would. It had AVG anti-virus 2011 and I uninstalled it with the Windows built in uninstaller. Then I tried using "avg remover 64 bit" and I got the message "the version of this file is not compatible with the version of windows you are running" which is strange because I have the 64 bit version of Windows. I got suspicious and tried running TDSSKiller.exe, rkill.com and some other AV programs but got the same "the version...". I read in a couple of searches that it's probably a virus and since I can't run any AV stand alone program, I suspect it is. When I ran Malwarebytes and SAS, it showed no virus's which I don't believe. Also everything in the Network and Sharing Center is totally normal showing that all is working fine. So if I can't run any of my anti-trojan, etc. programs, I can't see what it might be. This does the same in Safe Mode.
I have a laptop from my company and I have a problem accessing the internet:- When I'm connected to my company network : everything works fine.I go on internet through IE, Chrome, Firefox etc.- But when I'm at home or in another company or my 3G usb stick:Only IE works for internet. Firefox and Chrome display error page like I wasn't connected to internet.It seems not related with browser's proxy setting. (I have tried all options and moreover, my home connection doesn't require proxy settings for example)
View 6 Replies View RelatedLet me start by saying that I have a background in computer programming and so I understand most jargon, however I don't have much experience with computer hardware problems and networking, so I may not have tried some very simple things. I believe I've tried everything and I have thus far found no solution to ym problem nor have I even identified what the problem is.So, yesterday morning I was browsing the web as usual, when a power cut happened, obviously stopping me from browsing. When the power came back on, I tried to use my PC again. My network adapter was able to connect to my router once it came back on and very simple programs on my computer were working (for example, little Windows 7 gadgets on my desktop, such as news feeds and even my anti-virus updater) but when I tried to log on to Windows Live Messenger or any of my web browsers (I've tried IE, Firefox and Chrome), nothing works and I can't connect to the internet.
Each browser has the same problem. I can connect to my default homepage (google) each time, but it takes longer than usual, but then it doesn't let me connect to another website.This problem appears to be localized, although I'm having the same problem on both my laptop and my desktop PC, whereas my brother's desktop (which I'm writing from now) and our family's laptop both work fine and are free from this issue. In order to fix it, I have tried resetting my computers, my network adapter AND my router several times, but there is no change. I have tried a full system restore to a restore point 7 days prior to the problem occurring, but no change. I have tried troubleshooting the connection but nothing happens. I have also run a full virus scan with AVG Free and a spyware scan with Windows Defender, both came up clean.
my buddy has a laptop issue when its a wired internet connection. when its wireless, it has no problems with the internet, everything works fine. but when its wired, webpages will still load, but Internet videos wont work, anything that consists of streaming doesn't work, and he cant even use logmein. i have connected other laptops to the same cord and there is no problems. so i know its not the cord and i imagine its not the router since everything still works fine with other computers.

After a minute or so of initial use, it stops working and when I run the troubleshooter it discovers that the default gateway is not available and then it says that it has fixed the problem. However, after only a minute or so more, the internet once again fails. I have tried the "run>cmd>enter>ipcongfig>enter" and found that the numbers for the default gateway are the same on my laptop as for a laptop that does work.

But my main browser is firefox. Whenever firefox is open I cannot browse the web and when I try web pages do not load on any browser that I try to use, although I am able to use both ipads that are in the house and any applications/programs works fine with the internet. But ones I close firefox all other web browsers on my laptop work fine.

I'm using a laptop with internal wifi but I also have an external wifi dongle as I connect to my neighbours internet (I have permission and the passwords, etc). Both the internal and external used to work fine and both would have internet connection. But something recently has changed and now the internal wifi still works with both network and internet connection, but the external one only has network connection and no internet connection.The reason I use the external one is it gives much better signal strength than the internal one and, as said, both used to work just fine.Now I've tried uninstalling the external drivers and dongle and reinstalling it but no dice. I've tried doing the netsh stuff people have recommended in some of the search pages but no dice. Tried release and renew of IP, but no dice. The error code is 137 and I am using chrome. Only internet explorer x64 works! I don't want to use internet explorer. This error could be a virus posing as my proxy then routing my internet traffic back to itself, therefore making it seem like I have internet wvwn though I cant get online. View 2 Replies View RelatedI formatted both my laptop and desktop computer. When i did with my laptop, everything was great. Wireless still worked. Of course i have my linksys router connected to get the wireless.
I then formatted my desktop. Its a dell. When i did this, everything seemed great. However, i noticed that if i remove my wireless router and just connect my cable modem wired, it works. However, when i connect my wireless router, then my wireless internet works but my WIRED connection does not work. It has this message that says can't connect.
I don't think this has ever happened before. I mean, there were many times where my desktop got formatted and my wired internet worked and i could not get my wireless connection to work. But never had i had my wireless work and my wired connection not work. The one thing i did this time was after i installed the drivers with my windows cd, i then deleted the old windows file that was about 25 gb.
My desktop (windows 7 ultimate 64bit) has been able to connect fine to the internet until I got home from work this morning. My laptop is connecting to the same modem fine through wireless (along with my wii). The modem I am using is Motorola SB 901. When I rightclick my connection on my desktop and hit troubleshoot problems, I get 'local area connection 2 doesn't have a valid ip configuration'. Same thing happens when I switch the ethernet cord to local area connection 1. When I go to control panel, network and internet, network and sharing, the connection map at the top stops between my pc and the network (which is now labeled as 'unidentified network'). Here is a list of what I have done so far to try and resolve the issue:
1. Replaced the ethernet cord with one I know is working
2. Full scanned my pc for viruses
3. Disabled all firewalls and virus protection programs
4. Restored my pc to a previous save state
5. Reset winsock with cmd via these prompts: netsh winsock reset catalog and netsh int ip reset reset.log hit
6. This attempt is unfinished as I am getting stuck. I am attempting to setup a static ip to attempt to resolve the issue, but when I open cmd and type ipconfig/all, the default gateway under my local area connection is completely blank.Here is what comes up with ipconfig/all:

I recently installed Ubuntu 10.04 on my HP Mini 110-1116NR, then deleted the partitions that had Ubuntu on them, not knowing that Ubuntu comes with GRUB2, and sets itself as the default boot for that system. Now that GRUB2 is not installed, since it was on my only HDD, it looks for the GRUB2 partition, which does not exist.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI've downloaded Bluestacks to sync my android apps with my pc and it worked just fine. Shortly after I've gotten a request from Microsoft to run some updates which I've accepted. I left my workstation and when I came back 2/3 of my desktop icons had vanished and there were about 30 application error windows on my screen. The pc was blocked and only CTRL+alt+del worked, so I've shut down the pc. Since then nothing worked. I can't boot Windows 7, can't start safemode.The only thing that works is F2 (Setup) and F12 (boot options), but I don't get far there.Remedies: I've tried the following without success:
1) Rebooted W7 from the CD, ran the repair option out of which system image won't work and although I see system restore points (I have bi-monthly points), I get an error abort message. So no luck there
2) I've downloaded the Ubuntu 12.04 ISO on a UBS flashdrive and at least succeeded to get the initial Ubuntu screen but couldn't install (subinstall it under Windows 7 was suggested) and thus had no chance in recovering my files/docus/media. The computer goes back to the black screen with the blinking unusable cursor.
3) I've tried to follow the suggestion from your Tech JSntgRvr by downloading the "Farbar Recovery" program and execute it in the Window command prompt, but I get an error message that states:x:sources>i:frst.exe is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file. (with "i" being the drive where the usb flash was)So now I am out of my "very limited" wits.
Curious, is it possible to use Ubuntu to repair files in windows 7, like a copy & replace or add type of job?
View 2 Replies View RelatedBut lately my computer automatically scheduled a "chkdsk" during boot and it stops checking and i wait and a while later it shuts down i start it up and skip the chkdsk and starts up normaly and i login and after a while my mouse freezes i wait nothing works and the hard drive activity light is off. In Ubuntu i go to the disk utility it says there is a bad sector but i cant fix it on ubuntu. on windows startup features there is repair, safe mode, and others i tried going to the repair i click repair startup it says scanning for problems then it says it is doing something with the disk and never does anything.

I'd like to start by saying I'm not very good with computers. I'm a complete noob, infact. Which is why it probably was not a good idea to install Ubuntu. But now, I am trying to rectify this problem.So I popped in the full install version of Windows 7 Home Premium and booted from the disk. I got up to the part where it asks me to select a partition. One is something like 293 GB with no free space, and the other is 8 GB with no free space. It won't let me install on either, and the reason it gives is something like it's not in NTFS format... I don't know what this means.And if you do choose to reply, act like you're talking to a preschooler, because I am when it comes to computers.
